    Bar / restaurant interior

Came here on a recent weekday to settle a golf match (don't ask) and the winner paid for the meal...which was me! When we arrived the place was basically empty, but it quickly filled up with "regulars" and almost all the bar seats were packed! Had heard good things about their burgers (this was a Monday, but the "hot tip" day for burgers is actually their Tuesday special), so that is what were ordered along with tater tots. Their cheeseburger was pretty tasty, although a bit overcooked compared to the medium-rare I ordered. I asked for it with American cheese, sliced pickles and grilled onions (which were just warmed up red onions, not actually caramelized onions). Their tots however, were perfectly crispy and plentiful! The menu had a bunch of other "pub grub" favorites, which I'd definitely try next time through.

Came in on thanksgiving morning before a flight for a traditional Christmas ale. Loved the neighborhood vibe and big crowd at 930am. Special treat with fireball rimmed Christmas ale!!

    Clambake 2020

I was not impressed with The Fairview Tavern on my first visit, but they caught my eye recently with their seasonal clambake special. For one weekend in October you could get a clambake meal for $30. This meal included a bowl of clam chowder with a pack of oyster crackers, 12 steamed mussels, 12 steamed clams, half a roasted chicken, a huge baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter, half an ear of corn, a roll, and either a slice of pumpkin pie or apple cobbler! Every year I try to go to one or two clambakes so I am always on the lookout for the best one, and Fairview Tavern had a deal I just could not pass up! There were some issues with trying to make a reservation (lots of back and forth because staff was confused about what time the event started each day), but everyone I spoke with was friendly. My reservation was for a Saturday afternoon when there was no special game on and the place would be a bit quieter. I showed up and it was how I remembered, a hole-in-the-wall neighborhood sports bar with its share of older regulars already perched in their spots at the bar. Service was on the leisurely side, but I was fine with that. I did not wait too long for food or drinks and encounters with staff were satisfactory. As for food it was pretty good. I was only able to eat the chowder (bacon in this? very good), mussels (really enjoyed the fresh lemon to squeeze on top), and clams (a little chewy but no sand) before my stomach started to hurt from trying to eat so much and a food coma was about to set in. Leftovers were fine to eat when reheated the next day (impressed with that apple cobbler by the way, but odd to see that my corn was smaller than my roll). I was supposed to get coleslaw with my meal per the advertised menu, but honestly there was so much food I did not miss it. I also went to a higher priced clambake at place downtown this year, and I think Fairview Tavern did a better job - better food, better service, better price. I would definitely recommend! They also do holiday meals so I will be on the lookout for one of those!

I pizza was excellent. My daughter unexpectedly dragged me here and I was not expecting to enjoy the food. Boy was I proven wrong. The poor waitress was running g orders and covering the bar so it took over an hour for the food. The taste of the pizza made up for the wait. I've already told my sister she has to go here and recommend them.

I did make a few notes on the day of, so hopefully those suffice! So about 12 others from my foodie group and I dined at Salmon Dave's for a group lunch in April of 2025. The interior is cute and decorated like a fish joint off the coast of Florida. We had made reservations beforehand, but it was clear they were still understaffed. It took a bit too long for our food to arrive. I think we waited about 45 minutes for our mains to arrive. We all munched on the free bread while we waited. The bread was okay - standard white crusty bread. The service was also pretty good. Our waters were always kept pretty full but our waitress wasn't much for conversation - just kept things pretty serious. I ordered fried fish for my main (I am pretty picky about how I like fish prepared). My fried fish dinner was massive! I have never seen a fried fish as big as the one I had at Salmon Dave's. It was good too which is why my review is 4 stars instead of 3 or 3.5 stars. The coleslaw is a liquidy mush of nothing - don't bother getting this. In short, I paid about $40 after tax and tip for my fish fry lunch and while it took a while to arrive and I wasn't impressed with the sides, my friends and I had a good time! I was very impressed with the fish too!

Jeremy was our server, and was friendly, knowledgeable, and handled my gluten allergy without batting an eye. The food? Our selections were off the chain. We started with the deviled eggs - extremely creamy; a little kick; topped with a crisp cornichon. We had 4 different varieties of oysters -- all perfectly chilled and served with both cocktail and a green sauce mignonette, with plenty of lemon. Now for the showstoppers -- I had the N'awklins shrimp and grits. Oh my! The shrimp were nestled on top of the silky cheddar grits, and blackened - seasoned beautifully and cooked just right - not mushy or chewy. But the star? The broth! Tomato based, the depth of flavor was unexpected, and so good, I could have eaten a bowl of just that. My husband had Cioppino, which I could not taste due to GF. His description -- the broth was rich and thick -- not like a typical cioppino broth. It was was chock full of seafood -- very hearty -- with mussels; shrimp; calamari; clams, and just a touch of heat. The bread was also a standout -- baked to order, and then charred. You may want an extra piece of bread, he wants me to tell you! Really -- go to Salty Mary's, ask for Jeremy, and stuff yourself silly. You won't regret it.

The $3.50 oysters were okay, though not especially fresh and poorly shucked (shell fragments left in the liquor). The facility is far bigger than I thought it would be. They have a central restaurant with multiple party centers on either side. It's a really BIG facility. New, modern, and quite attractive. With plenty of convenient parking. The wall of the restaurant that faces Cleveland Hopkins Airport is all glass. It affords you quite an impressive view of the airport and the planes landing. The staff we met was pleasant and efficient. Our server, Mina, did an excellent job all night. If there was a weak point, it would be the food. It was not bad (I'm trying to be kind); it was just uninspired, limited, and not really well prepared. Because they do not offer bread for the table our only option was to order the "Soft Pretzel". It arrived badly overcooked, crunchy not soft, and even boardering on burnt. The charcuterie board was OK, but uninspired. I ordered the "Lemon Chicken" which was a full half chicken in a reasonably good sauce. But the meat was dry and it came only with brussel sprouts (yuk!). My wife had the "Walleye" which she simply said was "okay"... oh well. Our guests weren't any more impressed than we were. I will say our coffee and "Pot de Creme" were very good... thank goodness. All in all, our overall experience was "meh"... just "meh". Sorry - really probably should be 3.5

We dropped in for Happy Hour, looking for cocktails and a few bites, and were immediately struck by the well-appointed space. The runway views at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport added an unexpected layer of entertainment--watching planes take off and land while toasting 14 years of marital bliss felt like the perfect backdrop. We started strong with a French 75 and an Old Fashioned--both expertly crafted, but that Old Fashioned? Smooth, balanced, and memorable enough to set the tone for the entire evening. Wednesday happens to be Wing Day ($2 whole wings), and we took full advantage. We sampled Buffalo, Sweet & Tangy BBQ, Lemon Pepper Dry Rub, and the undeniable star of the show: Garlic Parmesan. Each had its own personality, but that Garlic Parmesan was simply elite. Service was impeccable--Emily was attentive without being intrusive, making sure our experience flowed as effortlessly as the cocktails. Speaking of which, round two brought a Cosmo alongside a repeat of that Old Fashioned...because when you find the right note, you stay in that key. For food, we shared the French Dip Baguette--shaved prime rib, provolone, horseradish aioli, and au jus done right--and paired it with the Mega Crunch Fries, elevated with sea salt, rosemary, and a light truffle oil drizzle. Simple menu items, executed with intention. We closed the evening the same way we began--together, with one final round of Old Fashioneds. A Happy Hour well spent. A celebration well honored. A 14-year journey still taking off.

Atmosphere was a wood, rustic, whiskey barrel feel and the food was great. Came back this year, and it was probably the most brutal restaurant experience I've had in a while. So Char is now called Avo Mexican, but they didn't change the atmosphere to replicate a Mexican place. It's still whiskey themed- with signs slapped on the old logo. They still have some of the old menu items from Char- which is so confusing too. When we walked in I asked the host if the bar was open seating. He said "oh I don't know" and walked away. We just sat at the bar since he didn't come back. We asked the Bartender what happened to Char and he said the owners wanted a rebrand. But it looked like a whiskey bar still....they didn't rebrand anything. I got a marg and my guy asked for a Mexican beer they used to have. Bartender said we haven't had that in a year. So they got rid of all their Mexican beers....? Even though they are now a Mexican place? So he ended up getting a Coors Light. My Marg lacked any sweetness or Agave. It was tequila and lime juice- poor bartender was struggling with 4 bar guests. It was kinda sad. I got a taco salad and my guy got a burger. He used to get the burger with fries, but now that it's Mexican, they only have chips. We had chips and guac for an app, so that was super annoying. Fries used to be really good. And who wants a burger without fries? Place wasn't busy, but our food took 35 minutes. Bartender kept apologizing and saying the kitchen was slammed. It clearly wasn't, I'm sure the cooks were adjusting to a new menu. Food was okay. Used to be really good, but I wouldn't recommend anymore. I guess they close at 8pm some days, because around 7:40 when we just had gotten our food, the bartender said it's last call. We were kinda laughing that they did a last call during normal dinner hours. My fiancé was considering getting another beer after dinner, but I guess they were closing...so weird. I've never seen a place close at peak dinner hours. No idea why they rebranded it. Confusing signage, food is not good anymore, drinks are bad, atmosphere doesn't make sense, menu is lackluster, service and kitchen are lacking, hours are bad. Sucks to write this, but I 100% will not be returning.
