My dad has been going to Bali Hai every week since 1987. Even when the Raleigh location burned down in a fire, he didn't let that stop him. He drove an additional 30 minutes just to eat at the Garner location. That's how good it is to him. For me, it all depends on what I get. ENTREE (2 bowls): I used to get B since that's what my dad always gets, but I've made the transition to D, which is both sweet and spicy. I don't like it too mild or too spicy, so D-7 is perfect for me. The only meat I get is turkey since it's nowhere near as chewy as the other meats (beef and pork), and I always fill one entire bowl with just turkey. For my second bowl, I fill half of it with veggies that I want to eat and the other half with more turkey. Their turkey goes well with the overall dish and how they make their food. I highly recommend the turkey here! The only downside is that the dish is drenched in sauce.. so stack some napkins under one side of your plate to gather the oily sauce on one side of your plate. Nonetheless, it's pretty good. 7/10 WORTH IT? Yes, as long as you know how to stuff your bowls, you will definitely get your money's worth. Come with an empty stomach! NOTE: The only downside is that you can't take your leftovers home.. I guess it's to deter you from overloading your plates, but it doesn't work and they end up wasting a lot of food.

Grab a bowl, fill it with raw food(both meat and fresh veggies), place it on the counter near grill. Grab a seat and watch the chef prepare your meal right in front of your eyes. Service: Decent enough. Once seated we were assigned a waitress. She handed over a slip to each of us which has our order details(Details include: The drink I ordered, the kind of rice I want (fried/brown), spice level range from 1-10, combination of sauces). This slip is used as a reference by the chef to prepare your meal and at the counter to bill the order. Taste: Fresh and good. Parking: Not an issue. You'll find plenty of spots. Note: You can't take leftovers home. Better come with an empty stomach.

The service is less than normal. No Manu when we walked in, no straws when we got the drinks. The food choices are limited. If you want the meat besides Beef, Pork, or Turkey, you have to pay extra. For example, Tofu is $1.5 extra. The soft drink is $1.95. (One Bowl $9 ish) It will be Very pricy if you would like to have whatever from Crazy Fire. The most disappointing thing is... the white rice is barely warm. It is a BIG "NO" for an Asian Restaurant!! The meat fell on the floor, NOBODY cleans it. The scale 10 spicy level is just like Taco Bell Hot Sauce, not even the "fire" one!! Flavor wise, it is ok. So overall, I gave it two stars. I am not coming back.

    How high can you go?

I never got to experience the old Raleigh Bali hai before it went down... But I heard that it was better (in terms of flavor) than the Durham one. I have always loved the flavors of Bali hai but the atmosphere, cleanliness, and service of the Durham one are the reasons why I gave it 3 stars. This Bali hai fixed all the minor issues the Durham one has. First off, so much parking available! I really dislike searching long and hard for a parking spot, especially when hungry. I almost always had to circle the Durham location multiple times to find a parking space. Not here, we had like 60 to choose from haha Anyhow, this Bali hai is not fancy but it is clean and spacious! Even the decor is slightly upgraded compared to the Durham one. The waitress our group had was really friendly and took care of us very well despite us constantly asking for more water, chopsticks, rice- the whole shebang. Food was extremely flavorful! I asked for d8 and my dish definitely offered the spice that I asked for! Overall, I left well-pleased with all the delicious food I got to eat. Stacking is a skill I will continue to practice here! P.S. Takeout/to-go option is not available here so prepare your stomach for a massive meal lol

So: I kept to a two plate limit - actually brought both plates with me on the initial fillup so that I didn't have to go back - but for just $2 more you get anything you want. The pricing structure is reasonable, allowing less food for a single plate and the ability to bring home if you can only eat a small amount of a plate (there are such people, trust me). Other than water chestnuts they were stocked with every food listed on the tray. Wasn't sure on the meats but the seafood was definitely prefrozen. Not the levels of food I'm used to at Mongolian grill. (okay, it's been 20 years since I used to Fire & Ice, that's my last memory). But the cooked food? All's well that ends tasty. I did go for the frozen seafood and enjoyed a plethora of mussels, squid, and octopus (I kept the shrimp out). Went veggie by veggie on plate #1 to meet the most authentic mix I could manage (a lot of American tastes in the "buffet"). Plate #2 was a heap of seafood and 1 or 2 other things that didn't fit with the veggies. Got it all fried up with a generous amount of hot oil to impart heat and taste. Woo. And I noticed too late there are spices on the end of the buffet, but I think I'd rather have my sesame seeds sprinkled raw on top (extra flavor) compared to roasted and mixed in. So that worked in my favor. Staff attended to refilling my drink, good. We actually didn't walk out with a single bite left on our plates, or a single ounce of hunger left in our stomachs. There you have it: a decent change from most NC fare, and you won't be standing in line to enjoy it.

The staff at the front desk was warm and welcoming. As for aesthetics, there is room for improvements. Needs brighter lighting. Crazy Fire Mongolian is a create your own fusion stir fry. Thoughts of cross contamination and meats sitting out was concerning. Upon arrival I looked over the bar. Everything appeared properly chilled directly on an iced Buffett station. The Raw meats were separate from the vegetables. Each item had its own utensils in its container. I went with the two bowls for 16.99. I used one bowl for meats. After cooked the grilling station individual added fried rice that I requested. My other bowl was for veggies with Lo Mein noodles. A veggie lo mein was my thought process. There was a decent variety of vegetables. I topped both bowls with light garlic oil and Mongolian sauce before taking it over to be cooked. Everything had a smoky grill flavor and it was mildly spiced since I didn't use much. I enjoyed it! I had plenty of leftovers that I brought home. The buffet bar: all of shrimp did not appear properly deveined. I do not recommend the shrimp. I enjoyed: spicy chicken , regular chicken, beef and pork. All were very good with my fried rice. I found that I needed more light directly above my table. It was very dim. Overall, no other complaints. I am glad I tried Crazy Fire and had my own experience. Crazy Fire was a quiet and offbeat vibe that I actually enjoyed. Two meals under $20 with leftovers is a real deal.

You fill up each bowl with whatever meats, vegetables, sauces and seasonings they have available at the bar. You walk your raw ingredients to the Mongolian stove and they cook it for you. After it's cooked they will plate it for you and ask if you want white or brown (which I think is just simple rice just seasoned with soy) and hand you your plate and you can take it to your table to eat it. They had noodles on the bar so I did noodles and stuff first. The second time I just did protein and veggies and then got my rice after it was cooked and had fried rice. It's a decent price for decent food. I would possibly visit again.

I was most excited about the duck egg rolls but ended up being my least favorite not because they were slightly on the dry side. Flavor was good, and the hoisin honey sauce really helped! The seafood dumplings were second best, stuffed full. The soup based was amazing and it also came with some bread for dipping in the leftover sauce. The pork and chive shumai were my favorite! A little bit bigger than bit sized but worth the mouth full! Absolutely would recommend. I'll 100% be back for more food.
