Interesting place. Large and empty on a Friday night. By which I mean there was literally no one else eating there or picking up an order. But we ate and enjoyed. So: I kept to a two plate limit - actually brought both plates with me on the initial fillup so that I didn't have to go back - but for just $2 more you get anything you want. The pricing structure is reasonable, allowing less food for a single plate and the ability to bring home if you can only eat a small amount of a plate (there are such people, trust me). Other than water chestnuts they were stocked with every food listed on the tray. Wasn't sure on the meats but the seafood was definitely prefrozen. Not the levels of food I'm used to at Mongolian grill. (okay, it's been 20 years since I used to Fire & Ice, that's my last memory). But the cooked food? All's well that ends tasty. I did go for the frozen seafood and enjoyed a plethora of mussels, squid, and octopus (I kept the shrimp out). Went veggie by veggie on plate #1 to meet the most authentic mix I could manage (a lot of American tastes in the "buffet"). Plate #2 was a heap of seafood and 1 or 2 other things that didn't fit with the veggies. Got it all fried up with a generous amount of hot oil to impart heat and taste. Woo. And I noticed too late there are spices on the end of the buffet, but I think I'd rather have my sesame seeds sprinkled raw on top (extra flavor) compared to roasted and mixed in. So that worked in my favor. Staff attended to refilling my drink, good. We actually didn't walk out with a single bite left on our plates, or a single ounce of hunger left in our stomachs. I tried so hard. My favorite restaurant is Crazy Fire Mongolian on Capitol. I was in this neighbor and got excited. It was not like it. It had the bar, it had the grill. First let's start with the sauces where first and then meat, had no beef, no shrimp and boiled eggs. She tried to redeem herself, but she really was nasty, but there was no saving this restaurant. Of course, the food was good I chose it, but I missed my beef, and my shrimp. We went here on our last day of vacation. I had missed having Mongolian and we don't have any near us in NE Ohio. To begin with, we were sat under an extremely loud tv and had a friend coming to meet us. It sucks when you can't hear each other. There was only one other table with 2 guests in the place. We asked to be moved since when we asked that the tv be turned down, it was barely noticeable. I ordered a glass of water, which tasted horrible so I ended up with diet soda. Not a fan but I like to keep an eye on my sugar intake. We filled our bowls. The toppings were decent. I'm glad I didn't get an egg because the cook was cracking them open with his spatulas and then lifting the shells off and tossing them into the discard area. I noticed my friend's daughter got shells in hers as well as the other party that was having their bowls cooked too. Nothing ruins a dish more than crunching into an egg shell. Ok, maybe finding hair is worse but anyway... The food was decent. Surprisingly, the fried rice on the side was decent. Would I come back? We had something like this out in Seattle, Washington and have been looking for a restaurant like it that's local to us. Needless to say, we found it! My teenager invited us to go there for dinner. It's a "build your bowl" place. unfortunately the proteins were very lacking. The beef was chewy. There was fake crab and baby shrimp, chicken. There was a sign for pork, but there was no pork. The flavors and seasonings were diverse and quite tasty. Fried rice was "ehh". Clumpy, but did have fried eggs in it. The seasoning bottles were grossly sticky and i'm not sure how the health inspector approves that condition. The servers gloves transfer as many germs as bare hands. The air conditioning system appeared off in the dining room and it was a little bit warm for mid summer at 6pm. There were signs all around the restaurant, telling us what we could, and could not do. The most offensive one was at the front door telling law abiding patrons they needed to disarm. There are too many other places that offer Mongolian meals. It had been a long time since we ate at Crazy Fire. What I encountered tonight was a pale shadow of what this restaurant once was. The interior of the restaurant has been neglected, with worn, torn carpets and tables that had been poorly refinished at some point in the past. Ventilation vans and junk was scattered around as well to lend that special ambiance. There were lots of signs and notices posted everywhere informing you of the restaurant's policies and rules; it was a tacky, amateurish hot mess. In the center of the Mongolian grill is a circular opening where residue from cleaning the grill, empty egg shells, and debris is emptied during cooking. It was a gross, disgusting mess with caked up burned food covering the opening. It reminded me of the sand monster Sarlacc's mouth in Return of the Jedi. I'm not sure when the Health Inspector last visited Crazy Fire, but hopefully it will be soon. It was very evident that the ingredient bar has been allowed to slip too. I'd guesstimate only about half of the containers were being used and it was pretty obvious that ingredient quality has slipped substantially. The brown, finely minced cilantro gave it away. The spice rack was populated with large, cheap containers of spices that seemed very clumpy from being left open all of the time. In fairness to Mongolian BBQ restaurants, if you aren't satisfied with your food, it's most likely your own fault since you picked the ingredients. The person preparing my food on the grill efficiently cooked my bowl of ingredients. It was hot and neither burned or undercooked. We stood in line about 10 minutes waiting to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant, but once we sat down, the hostess/server/manager did refill our drinks. She also checked in with us once. I am sure that Crazy Fire suffered during the pandemic as its model does not lend itself to being a socially-distanced experience and curbside pickup or delivery is very difficult, so it is understandable that the interior was not kept in very good shape. However, the poor quality of the ingredients bar is another story, especially when a single bowl of ingredients is now $14. With the pandemic largely behind us, there appears to be a great opportunity for competition to come in and offer a better product, at lower or at least similar prices, and a better overall experience. read more

Just arrived in the area for work this week. I searched for buffets near me and this came up on the list so I gave it a try. I am glad I did! For my first bowl I started with something simple: chicken, mushroom, onions, a few noodles, BBQ sauce, and fried rice. It was very tasty. Went here today with my boyfriend. Immediate upon arriving I noticed the interior wasn't very clean and was very out dated. There was a couple of people dining today but not many. There was imitation crab and the beef looked like it was sitting out as it was brown. The veggies didn't look like they were fresh and there was big bottles of seasonings that looked like they hadn't been cleaned off in months. Once I got my plate and started eating I go to the rice and immediately smelled a rancid stench. I took a good look at the fried rice and it looked old. It was mushy and glossy. I went to Crazy Fire for lunch with some coworkers and was pretty disappointed by the experience. First off, I thought the whole experience was quite confusing. It was my first time there and I wish they had better signage or an explanation about how to go through the line. I thought it was really strange how if you got one bowl you could get a to-go box but if you got two bowls you couldn't get a to-go box. I'm not usually weird about raw food and not too worried about sanitation, but I'm gonna be honest and say I did question how clean everything was. My coworker that I was there with told me last time he had the shrimp he got sick but I was thinking it was probably a one-time thing or maybe he has a weak stomach so I decided to get the shrimp (along with chicken and beef) and... Crazy Fire is one of those mongolian barbecue places where you pick your meats, veggies, noodles and sauces (raw) and they stir fry on a humongous wok at the back of the restaurant. It's all done buffet style, you've got a ton of ingredients to choose from. The key to the whole meal is the oils and sauces at the end. The right mix will lead to lunch nirvana, the wrong mix will mean a dry bland meal. They charge by the dish and the dishes are not real big. If you want to get more in your meal, line the outside of your bowl with some structural veggies (cucumbers, squash work well) and it'll make your bowl bigger! Then stuff the insides with all the other goodies. If you want egg in your dish, just hand carry it up to the wok. Depending on the traffic, it can take 5 - 15 minutes to get your food cooked up. Overall Crazy Fire is an ok concept but it gets crazy busy during prime time hours. There'll be lines at the buffet for the ingredients. Given there's only one wok, things can get slow. And the interior itself is pretty lame, sort of run down and not clean. So I still like to visit from time to time but only if I've got a particular craving for their food. read more

When its not busy it's a dream as you select your own personalized meal and create your own personal masterpiece. When it is busy though the line can get quite backed up and you do need to stand in line for a while. There is also the pressure of getting through the line so others behind you can get their masterpiece completed. They have a horde card membership which games you. As you go there more frequently. Every 100 gets you $10 off. And everytime you go there you get about 5 percent off each meal. I have cashed in four or five times. So yes, I've spent near five to six hundred dollars at this place. You could say I'm a fan. I do have my own recipe there and much of the staff knows me at this point. I really do enjoy myself there and will continue to go here often. The reason why I did not list this with 5 stars is because as of late there is been a high turnaround in staff. There doesn't seem to be a singular vision for the restaurant. The offers and price changes are so frequent that it feels likr each time I visited it is been something different. Some of the menus and promotional signs are all very worn and tattered. It's the little things that matter. I have noticed that they started putting what seems to be candles at each table to help add ambiance. If they continue to try to improve the little things I'm sure it will make a large impact. I just couldn't force myself to give it 5 stars when I can see so much room for improvement. Although it is more of a buffet feel to it you definitely need still need to tip those service girls because they work very hard. Bring your friends and all of your creative party to enjoy yourselves. Is not necessarily a romantic place but a place to eat with someone who you don't mind watching them gorge themselves on a three bowl high single packed bowl of food. Mongolian Crazy Fire Grill is a must when coming down to the Cary area. After having a great breakfast with my family we needed to find something that was just as good or better. There are no words to describe how good this place is. This is my second time at the grill and every time I come it gets better and better. Everything about this place is great. The waiting staff is quick and efficient, the cooks were very kind and friendly, and the choice of food is endless. Also, it is a very cheap way to get a lot of food. A single bowl, which you fill up with as much meat and veggies that you want, you can get for $8. We came around 1:30pm and got seated as soon as we came in. Just a friendly tip when you come here for the first time... Don't load up on carbs at the beginning like potatoes and noodles because you do get a big scoop of white or fried rice. This used to be my favorite place to eat when I lived on this side of town. In fact, when we were married, we brought both families here to the private room for a nice dinner. Fast forward 8 years later and I thought it would be a nice nostalgic visit for our anniversary. A few years ago when we came here, the A/C seemed to be out and we ate our lunch in misery. It was ok then because the restaurant wasn't too busy and we understood - things happen. My husband commented on the way over that he hoped that the A/C was fixed....I kind of laughed it off...of course it would be. The restaurant seemed fairly busy when we pulled up and I took that to be a good sign. The fans that were there a few years ago seem to now be a permanent fixture. Eeek! The 93 health score on the wall was a bit of a concern...but hey, they deal in raw food and refrigerated tables so, maybe it is a little tougher? I should have just taken my hunger across the street to K&W. But we were in it for the love of the place, right? So we got our bowls and stood in line at the grill. We were pleased to see the same cook from years past...he cooks it up right! We were given numbers (ones that go on your house to tell the address) that felt a little unsanitary, and soon the food was prepared. I appreciated that the cooks cooked my food with clean utensils once I informed them of my shellfish allergy. The service was meh, we were offered white sauce when we sat down and we did not see the server at our table again until the end of our meal for refills. It was so hot that the drinks produced an incredible amount of water and we were not offered extra napkins. My husband had to get up and ask for some..he was offered one lonely napkin. My husband sweated the entire meal. He had to excuse himself to the restroom to wipe his face. In fact, it got so bad he told me he was going to wait in the car for me to finish my meal...he was done! Luckily, I was only a few bites behind him. He stood at the front waiting for someone to present us with a check, and finally someone came up and dropped off the check. We had our card out to pay and she quickly swiped it and headed in the other direction. I grabbed the card and was like, oh...you have to go somewhere else with my check? It is 2018....we know the rules...never ever let your card out of your sight unless it is credit. The lady obviously sensed my hesitation and offered for me to follow her. I declined and she went to the back and slightly around the corner but returned quickly. She was sweating too....I felt bad for her. So anywho, needless to say, my little trip down memory lane ended up as a hot, sweaty, nightmare. The bar was not cleaned to my liking and I understand that it was close to closing time but because I have food allergies I have to pay attention to this things because of cross contamination. Compared to the other locations I've been to this one just doesn't do it. Despite it not looking clean as the other ones and waiting in the lobby almost 5 minutes before someone came to the front to seat us, I still gave them a chance. They do have a different pricing scale than the others as you can choose to dine in and purchase 1, 2, or unlimited bowls. They give you two complementary white sauces and after that it is .50 cent for each additional one. There were two chefs on duty so we didn't have to wait in an already almost empty restaurant for our food. The food wasn't terrible, but it just didn't taste as good as the other locations. I can't really put my finger on what it is either it's just not as good. The waitress was nice, not very attentive but she had a nice attitude. Anyway if you're in the area and you have to have crazy fire you won't be impressed but I don't think you'll be that disappointed either. read more

Honestly wish there could be a negative rating because of how unsanitary everything is. After coming here to eat I died the next day and my stomach was in pain. This place has raw food sitting out in the middle of nowhere, there are cockroaches on the ground no joke, and they have raw food touching other foods. They cook the food on a massive grill with a pair of spatulas. They go around the grill cooking peoples food regardless of whether it is raw or not, so your cooked food is being touched by tongs that just touched someone raw food. I would highly suggest people with any sensitivities avoid eating food from the grill since they use water and a scraper to clean the grill. I can't think of any place more unsanitary. Save yourself some time and don't bother coming here. read more
