White rice, noodles, veggies and beef

My family decided to try something different this evening, and choosing your own meal seemed like a fun thing to try. Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed it was clean, the hostess was extremely nice and knowledgeable, and the small and limited ingredient section looked fairly clean as well. This is where anything I have nice to say ends. There is no ambience whatsoever. Not even background music playing. As we awaited our food, we noticed everybody was eating out of takeout containers. I guess the concept of an actual dish is lost on this establishment. We eventually received our food, along with some beautiful plastic utensils, and chopsticks. We all dug in to the most bland and uninspired food I've ever had the misfortune of tasting in my entire life. I ordered mine for a spice level of three, which I was told would be reasonably hot without melting your face. The food was completely bland and flavorless. The fried rice was simply brown with some kind of oily substance. None of the meat nor vegetables absorbed any of the flavor. The sauce did not stick to the food at all. To say we were underwhelmed would be the understatement of the year. I choked it down so that I didn't feel any worse about wasting my $46 on three meals. If you are looking for subpar Asian food, try the food court at the mall, at least it tastes like something. This will be a one and done. check out the picture of the leftovers to see how unappealing this brown and tasteless food is.

Bring your tray to the guy so he can cook your food on the grill.

I love Mongolian food and we've been visiting Bali Hai for a few years now. We used to go to the one in Garner so I'm glad we have this one near our house now. If you're not familiar with the style, here's how it works: they will ask you what kind of sauce you want (spicy or non spice, sweet and sour, combination or curry), and what kind of rice you want or if you want noodles instead. They will give you the paper with your name and sauce/rice choice and you just put it on the tray. Take one or two (or more) bowls and then add whatever you want in it form the buffet and take it to the guy that will cook your food on a flat grill. The buffet: they have three types of meat: beef, Turkey and pork. You can mix and match and add as much as you want because you will pay by weight. They also have lots of veggies options like onions, zucchini, carrots, green onions, bens sprouts and others. The food is very good! I usually pick the B spicy sauce level 3 (you can choose from 1-10) and my husband likes the Q house sauce + E Curry together. Their fried rice is delicious! You can either eat there or take it home. No matter which one you choose, your food will come in a box already with plastic silverware or chpps Just a few cons: - they don't give you free water, they only have bottled water or soft drinks. - They add so much rice to your food that you can't eat everything. You don't get to choose how much rice it will come with and remember that you pay by weight and they weight your food after adding the rice so you'll usually get over a pound of rice which is about $7.50 per lb. Unless you choose the no rice option, then you pay more per lbs. I wish I could choose how much rice I want. I love their fried rice, just don't need a whole pound of it. Overall the food is very good! We go back there once in a while. I recommend the fried rice and the house sauce.

Good for a quick bite and you pay by the pound. Service is ok and the ambiance is a little dreary. You do get to watch the food be cooked kind of like hibachi. The sauces are tasty. I got the combo with the curry added and it was sliced well. One of those places you go back to every once in a while.

I'll start by saying that I really used to enjoy this place in it's old location that burned a few years back. I have gone to the Strickland Road location twice now, but this will probably be my last visit. I went in today for lunch and dutifully loaded up 2 bowls of veggies/meat. Handed it to the person prepping the order for the cook and very clearly asked for 1/2 portion of rice. This was written on the ticket as well. After handing off your food, you have to wait a while until they cook it. I guess I should have waited and kept an eye on things, because when they called me to pick it up, it is placed in a takeout container (styrofoam clamshell) and then you weigh it to determine price. My price came out to $13.80 for 1.7 lbs of food. OK fine. The PROBLEM happened when I got to the table, opened the container, and realized that literally 50% to 70% of what was in the container was RICE! I went back to the checkout and showed them, enquiring as to whether this meets the standard for '1/2 portion of rice' and the guy was essentially just not too concerned. I really felt cheated at that point. What I expected was to remove 1/2 the rice, re-weigh, and get a refund for the difference, but they indicated that they 'could not do that'. I'll finish by saying that the food was good, but I threw away more than half of the rice, and it just was not even close to worth the cost! I've attached a picture of the rice that was left. The entire bottom portion of the container was loaded with rice, and my meat/veggie stir fry fit into the small portion of the container at the top of the pic. So, going forward I refuse to pay $7.50/lb for a bunch of white rice. Not going to happen. Bali Hai may be 'calling', but it's far from my 'special island'. I can go to lots of other places where they will fix an order that was clearly served in error. I guess the lesson I learned here is to check what's in the container BEFORE I pay!

Love this place! I've been eating here every week since they opened. So glad they opened a location in Raleigh. Everyone has always been very kind and accommodating. Veggies and meats always look fresh and well stocked. If they run out of anything, you can just let the nice lady running the front know and she'll bring more out as your stacking your bowls. If you're use to the old Bali Hai that was on Wake forest, you may want to kick up your spice level here. I use to get d-6 there, but at this location I get d-8. They don't have table service, but you can grab your box after paying and eat at one of the tables. One great thing about Bali Hai is the left overs taste just as good the next day! Price is great! Food is excellent! Please don't leave us again.

You can stuff your own bowl(s) or order over the phone for them to do it, but all the food is weighed. Rate for no rice is $2/lb more. I ordered D5 but could probably go level 6-7 spicy if I wanted a true kick. Good service.

Food is always amazing they just need to work on their customer service..The older lady was really rude was rushing us like we was bothering her but u know what they still cooked my food to perfection so I wont complain too much

So: I kept to a two plate limit - actually brought both plates with me on the initial fillup so that I didn't have to go back - but for just $2 more you get anything you want. The pricing structure is reasonable, allowing less food for a single plate and the ability to bring home if you can only eat a small amount of a plate (there are such people, trust me). Other than water chestnuts they were stocked with every food listed on the tray. Wasn't sure on the meats but the seafood was definitely prefrozen. Not the levels of food I'm used to at Mongolian grill. (okay, it's been 20 years since I used to Fire & Ice, that's my last memory). But the cooked food? All's well that ends tasty. I did go for the frozen seafood and enjoyed a plethora of mussels, squid, and octopus (I kept the shrimp out). Went veggie by veggie on plate #1 to meet the most authentic mix I could manage (a lot of American tastes in the "buffet"). Plate #2 was a heap of seafood and 1 or 2 other things that didn't fit with the veggies. Got it all fried up with a generous amount of hot oil to impart heat and taste. Woo. And I noticed too late there are spices on the end of the buffet, but I think I'd rather have my sesame seeds sprinkled raw on top (extra flavor) compared to roasted and mixed in. So that worked in my favor. Staff attended to refilling my drink, good. We actually didn't walk out with a single bite left on our plates, or a single ounce of hunger left in our stomachs. There you have it: a decent change from most NC fare, and you won't be standing in line to enjoy it.

Thoughts of cross contamination and meats sitting out was concerning. Upon arrival I looked over the bar. Everything appeared properly chilled directly on an iced Buffett station. The Raw meats were separate from the vegetables. Each item had its own utensils in its container. I went with the two bowls for 16.99. I used one bowl for meats. After cooked the grilling station individual added fried rice that I requested. My other bowl was for veggies with Lo Mein noodles. A veggie lo mein was my thought process. There was a decent variety of vegetables. I topped both bowls with light garlic oil and Mongolian sauce before taking it over to be cooked. Everything had a smoky grill flavor and it was mildly spiced since I didn't use much. I enjoyed it! I had plenty of leftovers that I brought home. The buffet bar: all of shrimp did not appear properly deveined. I do not recommend the shrimp. I enjoyed: spicy chicken , regular chicken, beef and pork. All were very good with my fried rice. I found that I needed more light directly above my table. It was very dim. Overall, no other complaints. I am glad I tried Crazy Fire and had my own experience. You fill up each bowl with whatever meats, vegetables, sauces and seasonings they have available at the bar. You walk your raw ingredients to the Mongolian stove and they cook it for you. After it's cooked they will plate it for you and ask if you want white or brown (which I think is just simple rice just seasoned with soy) and hand you your plate and you can take it to your table to eat it. They had noodles on the bar so I did noodles and stuff first. The second time I just did protein and veggies and then got my rice after it was cooked and had fried rice. It's a decent price for decent food. I would possibly visit again.
