The desserts here are on another level in terms of quality, and the man who seems to own the shop is incredibly hands-on, patiently answering all my questions--even though I know very little about French desserts. The shop itself is spotless and adorable, with a new-looking building in a great area. However, there's one thing I'd like to suggest: please add labels for the desserts, including prices. Right now, there's no price labeling on the items themselves. Instead, there's a printed price list on the wall, but it's on a small sized paper and not even placed near the desserts. It's hard to match the items to the prices, which gives the impression that everything might be overpriced, or they don't want customers to figure it out. It's really inconvenient, and I can't ask the staff about the price of every single item. Pricing is a key factor in deciding which dessert I want. The fig & cream cheese were so good together. Take note of their store hours since they have some extra days & mid-day hours off, and try to get there early if possible since pastries tend to run out. Although prices are a little higher for their desserts, I feel like the quality you receive is totally worth it. It's definitely not your ordinary bakery shop in town. Premium butter is used in all desserts. The owner is an avid French baker- not 'croissants' ok. There's madelines, brownies, dacqouise, spooning scone, etc that you CAN'T buy at a regular bakery shop. It's definitely a taste you acquire..just like not everyone likes black coffee, everyone will have different appreciation in desserts. I wish I can write my favorites but I'm afraid I won't be able to buy it at the end of the day so just try everything and see what you like the best!! I appreciate the high quality of baking goods here. AA a baker, the first bite of Madeleine texture satisfies my taste bud. It's perfect moisture, and not too sweet. In fact, I rank this as the best I had within the continent of USA. The Dacquoise is difficult to make that's why it's not very easy to find. We were driving down 5 on our way back from LA and suddenly craved for desserts. A quick search took us to Baking Room, a newly opened dessert shop specializing in baked goods. The interior is so cute, very christmassy! We were greeted immediately and the guy over the counter patiently explained all their creations. we wanted to get everything! I wanted to support a small business that served a variety of desserts-the business owner was really kind and let me know what needed to be refrigerated and let Me sample a few of her other treats. But the favorite was especially the dacquoise! Specifically the one with caramel in the middle. Even If you don't like super sweet desserts, this one is hands down a must try-the caramel just pairs so well with the textures of the dacquoise, and is a really good balance. Deserts taste average to below average and are way too sweet. Be prepared for major sticker shock they're expensive and in my opinion even overpriced. The owner is difficult and actually argued with me when he was in the wrong and didn't provide good customer service (you can see from his response he has attitude). He says they have prices in 3 places which is a lie at least at the time I went and clearly from the business photos you can see not only are things not labeled in the refrigerated and non-refrigerated case but there are no prices listed there. I've never been to a bakery where the prices aren't next to items or easy to find without having to constantly ask the owner which is awkward and uncomfortable if you're like me and don't want to interact. There were some prices for refrigerated items or in a small sign for only some items behind the register but most customers want to see ALL prices and easily. I'm guessing they don't put prices on many of the products probably because they know many would just laugh and walk out and it's aggravating how they don't label things for those of us who don't want to interact. The owner is clearly a liar and has the nerve to call me one. Anyway, as other reviewers mentioned too the pastries here just aren't good. The environment also isn't warm and inviting like most bakeries it almost feels sterile and I'm not sure why there are Christian displays throughout the store which I don't consider respectful of all the diverse religions in Orange County. My husband is a skilled home baker, so we're always on the lookout for the finest butters. When I came here, I instantly fell in love. They offer several kinds of high-quality butter, and one of them is used in their scones. I bought a few scones with butter and enjoyed every bite. One of their unique desserts looks like tiramisu, but instead of ladyfingers, it's made with scone layers. I had never tried it before, so I bought one to taste. They have two flavors: berry and chestnut espresso. So, which one is better? OMG... just get both! The berry flavor is perfectly sweet and refreshing, with cloud-like cream and moist scone that transports me to a berry garden. Meanwhile, the chestnut espresso has more body, a slight bitterness, a rich, savory taste, and a well-balanced sweetness. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the chestnut espresso because I've never experienced this flavor before. It's somewhat similar to a Japanese Mont Blanc but creamier and fresher.
