I'd love to keep Pie Dreams my little secret, but out of respect for the proprietor's mad baking skills, it's behind Dino's. The owner is passionate about his pies and shared his philosophy about how pie can make us all nicer, gentler people. I mean, that's not exactly verbatim, but the pie case made it hard to pay attention. On my visit, there were two savory pies (hand pies) and a selection of sweet pies (hand pies and slices). Being a big supporter of small businesses, I ordered 4. All I can say is I'm super happy I don't live closer. The chicken bacon hand pie was delicious. Big pieces of chicken in a flavorful creamy sauce. There may have been some vegetables in it but I was driving and it was unsafe to inspect my pie closely. The caramel apple hand pie was good. Because I'm not an apple pie fan I appreciated that the apples were sliced thinly, not chunky, and I loved the addition of the sanding sugar on top. I ordered the apricot frangipane (AF) for two reasons: it was double-crusted and it didn't have whipped cream on top. I wasn't totally on board with frangipane since my experience with it in boxed chocolates was "meh." Plus they seem to love it on the Great British Bake-Off and it always looks so unappealing. But paired with the tartness of the apricots and a crust that reminded me of shortbread, I think the AF was my favorite, though I haven't tried the blueberry lemon yet. If you love pie, go to Pie Dreams and have a slice or three (no judgment here). If you're not sure or don't think you like pie, go to Pie Dreams. You may surprise yourself.

Therefore when averaging it out, lead to 3 stars. YES the desserts are NOT sweet and are comparable to the desserts you purchase in Taiwan. So forewarning to those who have a sweet tooth and are craving a slice of cake! I ORDERED: #1 ube/taro mochi cake which tasted stale and likely depended on the natural sweetness of the ube and taro. #2 custard mochi which also tasted stale with lots and lots and lots of custard. Both mochi are not QQ like Japanese mochi but do have a subtle chewiness. SERVICE: Lady who helped me was nice. I probably should have spoken Mandarin but I was too lazy because she greeted me in Mandarin and gave me more expensive products than what I was asking for (ie 2 piece custard mochi for $6.80 vs 2 piece potato mochi for $7.50). BUT overall, friendly lady. AMBIENCE: lots of tables with cute large sized plushies to keep you company. LOCATION/PARKING: Across from newpark mall. Lots of parking in front and around. Shaded parking in some areas, too! Free and private parking lot.

I know their brioche donut flavors are 9/10. I tried their shio pan pre-lunch. So good and coated with sesame seeds. I'm trying their banh mi served their shiopan. It's served with their own Bo',a Vietnamese mayo, pickled shaved daikon, cucumber and carrot salad, ham. It's so good because the shiopan has acrunchy exteriorbut the sea salt flavor cuts the richness, and tangy pickled flavors of the fillings. This sandwich is delicious, so good and amazing! Menu today is 5/5. Another thing about their shiopan is they perfected their own techniques of creating a baguette substitute and saviry bread vessel. I bought their banh mi, and was so curious and planned to eat it later. After eating a few bites, it is so good. Their bakeshop and café is still quaint, and tgey have outside seating for patrons. After walking around for a few minutes, we picked up a few baked goods and steamed buns. For myself, I chose the steamed red braised pork bun and my daughter grabbed the chocolate croissants. As for flavor, I didn't like red braised pork bun. The color was off and so was the flavor. It was a bag of 6 for around $14 and the buns were pretty "flat". No comment on the croissants since I didn't try them but the exterior was pretty soggy (probably from sitting out all day). The cashier was very friendly but I don't think she speaks English since she kept talking to us in Mandarin. Wide varieties of options to choose from. I stopped by for my regular iced cold Tiger boba latte medium size cup for $4.90. Note: my cup looked very small compared to what I'm used to getting. Did the medium sized cups shrink? The lady probably used the wrong cup size, but I'm having a good morning, so not sweating about it. However, I can easily buy beautiful and delicious slices of cakes for around or under $5 each. No lines and no crowds after 10am on a Thursday morning. Staff was helpful at front counter. The place is still much better than other retail spaces. It's a good feeling inside. I'm glad I was able to make another quick stop here. This 85 Degrees C Bakery is definitely the better place.
