Had a great dinner the other night at Bakersfield. We started with the salsa trio which was delicious. Then each got 3 different tacos, each one was full of flavor and so so good. The margaritas are also great. I love the outdoor seating especially as it's getting warm. Our server was also super kind, attentive and funny which made our time that much better. This is one of my favorite casual spots downtown.

Everything was really good, we got a variety of tacos and the favorites were Baja shrimp, Carnitas and Al Pastor really hard to pick though! The pollo rojo tacos were good but was a bit dry compared to everything else but still good. The drinks were also good really smooth and refreshing! Ordered the chips with trio salsa and the guac both were very flavorful and fresh, each salsa had great flavor definitely worth trying! Really good experience and the atmosphere was chill!

Second time coming here, this time for happy hour, and the food was great both times. Drinks too! The sauces were the highlight, bold flavors and the spice level was perfect. Not shown are the tacos we got, al pastor all six, so so so good. Taquitos were crispy but not dry inside and the empanadas were light but the perfect amount of cheese. Bartender/server in the basement was great, had the answer to every question and poured a great specialty cocktail!

Had a great time at Bakersfield. The queso was really good, and the chips that came with it were perfectly salted and honestly addictive. I also tried the seasonal guava margarita which was so delicious. We sat outside, which made it an even better experience as it sits right along Penn Ave.

Finally got to try Bakersfield! Quite a popular spot for tacos here on Penn Ave. However, I decided to try a different part of their menu. I got to try their Milanese Torta and a side of rice and beans. The Milanese torta was amazing. Almost a bit like chicken park (both breaded chicken), but in differently spiced and sandwich form. Breading was light, and the chicken was juicy. The portion was quite nice too. Very fresh vegetables. I will say, although the green sauce was good, I wish they offered something besides just salsa as a dipping sauce. The rice and beans were pretty great too. A little expensive as a side, though. The rice is flavorful, with hints of cilantro and maybe a little lemon. Beans are great too, almost creamy, and topped with more sour cream. All in all, quite good!

We stopped into Bakersfield on our way back from a Pirates game, looking for a more laid-back spot to grab food and drinks, something casual since we were still in our baseball jerseys. This place absolutely hit the mark. It was a Saturday night and, while it was lively, it wasn't overly packed. We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar without a wait, which was perfect. The vibe was relaxed and fun, great for a post-game meal without needing to dress up. We started with margaritas, and I went for the mezcal one. It was smoky, strong, and honestly really good, one of those drinks that you sip slow and still feel satisfied after just one, especially after a few at the ballpark. We kicked things off with a couple of appetizers: the chips and dip trio (three kinds of salsa for $7, awesome deal, especially downtown) and the empanadas, which were also well-priced and delicious. For the main event, I tried three tacos: short rib, baja shrimp, and al pastor. I seriously couldn't pick a favorite they were all that good. What really stood out was the value. The food was excellent, the prices were super reasonable (tacos were only $4.50 each), and I walked out full without feeling like I overpaid. For the quality of food, the pricing is kind of unbelievable. Overall, Bakersfield is a must if you're in the area especially if you want great food, drinks, and a casual vibe without the downtown price tag. I'd come back in a heartbeat.

Walked in after exploring area for drinks and a snack. Lots of seating areas, as well as a bar area. Not sure about parking as we walked here. Ordered many different drinks. All were tasty. Also ordered chips with guacamole and salsa to snack on. Those too were delicious. Our server was super duper friendly and helpful. She was beyond attentive and got us all of our things quickly. Cute decor and great menu. Would visit again!!

This is one location on Bakersfield, what I'd call an upscale chain. I'd say it's 3.5 or 4. Our Party of Seven got a couple of orders of guacamole (very good, freshly made, with nice crispy chips), a bunch of tacos, a couple of salads and a couple of sides. I liked my tacos, fresh ingredients, nice combos (carnitas and shrimp were my choices). We got the side of corn with cookies and spices. Very good. The salad was excellent.

Luckily we got a table outside at Bakersfield! The pineapple margaritas were amazing with the tajin rim. The pitcher had more than enough drinks for 3 of us. Besides the pollo verde, all of our meals were full of flavor and we loved the salty chips with the queso.

Solid spot on Penn Avenue for happy hour groups. The tacos, margaritas, and queso have always been pretty good for the area. I have been enjoying their Taco Tuesday specials lately. It is $3 a taco and they usually have a shot of the day special. Bakersfield is always accommodating to special requests as well as allergies. This is a great spot to be out and about without sacrificing taste!

Ask the Community - Bakersfield Penn Ave

I'm looking for a table (s) for 40 ppl on 12/28 around 6, can you accommodate?

Hi Danielle, could you please send us your email so that we can contact you directly about this?

This says not good for kids, but I've found my daughter often loves the exact restaurants that claim this. Any idea how a mature 11 year old, only child with an adventurous palate would do here?

Hey Megan! We are definitely kid friendly, but it can get loud in the evenings and at night. If your daughter's got a sense of food adventure, she should be able to find some new favorites here. If you have any other questions, let us know!

    Do you take reservations?

    Hey Danielle! We sure do.

    Where can I park?

I usually park at grant street garage, it's the one with the greyhound station in it. It's like a block and a half away and is only $5 bucks.

The bar serves cocktails, wines, beers, and mocktails. For dinner and late-night bites, the restaurant focuses mostly on small plates and shareables, including charcuterie, chicken wings, pizzetta, steak, and salmon. They also have a Sunday brunch that serves lox bagel, shrimp and grits, French toast, mimosa, bloody Mary, etcetera. My husband and I ate one lunch here. The best aspect of The Finch was its beautiful views of downtown Pittsburgh's skyscrapers, Monongahela River, and subway trains. The foods and drink were a mixture of quality, and my husband called them "garbage" (eek!). Here are my ratings for them. Berry Mint Spritz - 4 stars - This mocktail (I could have ordered it with alcohol to turn it into a cocktail) contained strawberries, mint, lemon, syrup, and soda water. All of the flavor had settled on the bottom of the glass, so I could have used a straw to mix the drink, but I did enjoy the flavors. Summer Crab Cakes - 2 stars - I received two crab cakes, and they were some of the worst crab cakes that I have ever received anywhere. They contained too much breading and too little meat. I did not even like the flavor of the cherry tomatoes on the side. I usually love crab cakes, but with these ones, I could take only a couple of bites, and then I had the waitress throw away the rest. Hawaiian Pizzetta - 4 stars - This small pizza consisted of four slices that had cheese but no gooey cheese-pull. Other toppings were BBQ sauce drizzle, pineapple, ham, and red pepper. I thought that it tasted good. Ember Steak Skewers - 4 stars - My husband said that the steak was not the highest quality. At least the chunks of steak, peppers, onions, and mushroom (we counted one piece of mushroom!) were marinated and seasoned nicely. The total cost for this one mocktail, three foods, and one soda was $79 *plus* a 3% credit-card surcharge, tax, and a minimum tip of 18%. We asked the waitress for a receipt, but she did not bring us one, so we walked up to her to ask for it again, and we did receive it.

I've heard so many mixed things that I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed every aspect of my experience. It kind of has dive bar vibes but the food and drink options are definitely on the elevated side. They open at 4 on Sundays and I got there around 4:15. It was already pretty busy (and by the time I was leaving, every single table and bar stool were occupied). They have standard booth seats along the windows, hightop tables in the middle and bar seating along the bar that curves along the back of the restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I was promptly greeted by the bartender. They don't hand you copies of the menu, you have to scan the QR code to access. It is easy to read and follow with sections for drinks, specials (this time they were Wicked themed as a nod to the show at the Benedum) and a sushi section. I ordered the street corn dip. The chips were a bit overcooked and the dip was just OK. I thought it was pricey for what you got. The star of my meal, though, was the patty melt. It had the burger, a bacon jam, caramelized onions and was absolutely delicious! It was served with fries. I considered ordering sushi but wasn't sure what to expect. The patrons sitting on either side of my ordered rolls and they were a nice size and looked delicious, so that is something I would consider ordering in the future. It was a place I'll likely be back to because of the proximity to the theater (although their prices definitely reflect that). Just note how crowded it always is and give yourself plenty of time if you plan on heading here for dinner before the show.

I wish some of that effort was put into making higher quality dishes. The service was great. Friendly and knowledgeable server (although the time I came on my own it seemed like it was something that never happens at this place based on the questions I got about being on my own). That in itself was off-putting. Plenty of people do things on their own. But for the price of the food (and the rave reviews) I was expecting to be blown away.
