My friend and I stopped at Bakersfield today, Friday, July 30th, 2026 We were surprised by the amount of our check, not because we cared about paying it, but because it seemed a bit odd. They have listed in their drinks menu a Cadillac Margarita with Clase Azul tequila for $28.00 It already comes with Grand Marnier, that's what a Cadillac Margarita should be. Well, we requested El Tesoro tequila which is not as pricey as Clase Azul, but I just don't like Clase Azul. Anyway, we were charged $34.00 for our Cadillac Margaritas, it just doesn't make sense and I feel like that is not fair. A "rare" attempt to explain the charge, from our waitress Veronica, was that she had to charge for the Grand Marnier!!! Go figure!!! It's 2026, everyone can do tacos these days. If you can't accept that, you can't accept America as the melting pot it is. Land of the umarginalized kinda marginalized... still marginals, but less so. Huh? Whatever. Onto the food and reasoning for myself wandering the shockingly perky streets of Pittsburgh. In no way do I assert that the people of Pittsburgh are percilicious. In fact the opposite. I simply mean I'm shocked by how many restaurants and bars there are down the two lanes of street in the entire city. I shan't disclose too much of myself or my doings but I had some business to attend to. Notice I did not say to take care of. Because I wasn't there for that. In fact, I shouldn't even have been there. I was, in a sense, brought to entertain. There is no shame to it, I will call it as it is. A corporate dummy sent to use his striking swagger and suave to keep others content as they do dealings of mediocrity. Fine by me. You know what else was fine by me? These tacos. Got a variety of them. All were actually really good. Taco shells were actually texturable and the creations were not overwhelming or insistent - yet they were different enough and worked well in complimentary and contrasting ways. What was more fantastic is I sat in silence the entire time as the four attending with me - of whom I'd not call colleagues or acquaintances - more so, people I share in work with; As they gossiped until their tongues fell out of their mouth. Luckily, I was not tasked with the "project" of picking them up off the ground. Instead I hit back a light Corona in order to fit in to the atmosphere and fit in to my role as a collaborator. Had a great dinner the other night at Bakersfield. We started with the salsa trio which was delicious. Then each got 3 different tacos, each one was full of flavor and so so good. The margaritas are also great. I love the outdoor seating especially as it's getting warm. Our server was also super kind, attentive and funny which made our time that much better. While the chips and guac and outdoor seating were nice, those things alone can't really get higher than a few star rating. The chicken and carnitas tacos I ordered were served with the meat cold, which I wasn't expecting. It seemed like it must be intentional, since all of the tacos we ordered with meat were very cold. Not my preference. The kid's cheese quesadilla was four taco shells cut in half and loaded with cheese. The mandarin oranges that came with the quesadilla were oddly hot; maybe they'd been sitting on a shelf above the oven? All the food temperatures at this meal were pretty confusing! Everything was really good, we got a variety of tacos and the favorites were Baja shrimp, Carnitas and Al Pastor really hard to pick though! Second time coming here, this time for happy hour, and the food was great both times. Drinks too! The sauces were the highlight, bold flavors and the spice level was perfect. Of course they're busy during the weekend evening hours but they have bar seating both up and downstairs so that helps the walk-ins. The host seemed unwilling to go out of his way for anything and almost made me feel discouraged about visiting here. I asked about seating for 2, he said it was pretty busy and I was like yeah obviously but what about bar seating. He said he doesn't know it's probably too busy there too and I just said I'm gunna go check myself and there was literally half the bar downstairs empty. So I didn't appreciate the lack of willingness to ensure customer service right at the front door. I sat myself at the bar and it took a minute to get acknowledged by the bartenders. Their seasonal margarita was a guava passionfruit. I did not like it and couldn't wait for my friend to get there so she could drink it haha it gave me instant heartburn. I ordered the pineapple margarita next and it was better but still not great. The last time we came, I also disliked the margaritas so I'm done ordering these anymore. They're either too sour, too sweet, or both. How can a taco place screw margaritas up so badly. We ordered the guacamole and it was actually good this time, I was sad I didn't have more. Last time I got it, it lacked seasoning and flavor. So I'm not thrilled about the inconsistency of the kitchen with this. I got tacos Al pastor and fish. Finally got to try Bakersfield! Quite a popular spot for tacos here on Penn Ave. However, I decided to try a different part of their menu. I got to try their Milanese Torta and a side of rice and beans. The Milanese torta was amazing. Almost a bit like chicken park (both breaded chicken), but in differently spiced and sandwich form. Breading was light, and the chicken was juicy. The portion was quite nice too. Very fresh vegetables. I will say, although the green sauce was good, I wish they offered something besides just salsa as a dipping sauce. The rice and beans were pretty great too. A little expensive as a side, though. The rice is flavorful, with hints of cilantro and maybe a little lemon. Beans are great too, almost creamy, and topped with more sour cream. All in all, quite good! read more

We stopped into Bakersfield on our way back from a Pirates game, looking for a more laid-back spot to grab food and drinks,something casual since we were still in our baseball jerseys. This place absolutely hit the mark. It was a Saturday night and, while it was lively, it wasn't overly packed. We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar without a wait, which was perfect. The vibe was relaxed and fun, great for a post-game meal without needing to dress up. We started with margaritas, and I went for the mezcal one. It was smoky, strong, and honestly really good, one of those drinks that you sip slow and still feel satisfied after just one, especially after a few at the ballpark. We kicked things off with a couple of appetizers: the chips and dip trio (three kinds of salsa for $7, awesome deal, especially downtown) and the empanadas, which were also well-priced and delicious. For the main event, I tried three tacos: short rib, baja shrimp, and al pastor. I seriously couldn't pick a favorite they were all that good. What really stood out was the value. The food was excellent, the prices were super reasonable (tacos were only $4.50 each), and I walked out full without feeling like I overpaid. For the quality of food, the pricing is kind of unbelievable. This is one location on Bakersfield, what I'd call an upscale chain. I'd say it's 3.5 or 4. Our Party of Seven got a couple of orders of guacamole (very good, freshly made, with nice crispy chips), a bunch of tacos, a couple of salads and a couple of sides. A large group of us (15) invaded this place when it had just opened and sat at a very nice bar. We were initially the only people in there, but within 30 minutes, the place was pretty full. It's hard to find Mexican food that meets my standards in this area since we lived in California for so long, but this place offers really delicious food. The taquitos were my favorite and we got a bunch of tacos, which were all very tasty. My husband and I finally tried Bakersfield after having it in our list for awhile. Unfortunately, we felt that the tacos were just okay and overpriced. We preferred our appetizers (chips, guac, and very good smokey salsa). I think in the future we may just come for drinks and some snacks. I don't think the tacos are worth the price personally.
