Pleasantly surprised by this little spot! They caught my attention as they post a fair amount of their goodies on the Saline Eats group page. It's a little off the beaten path, so a hidden gem! Seems like they started selling baking supplies (which they still sell!) but now sell baked goodies. I stopped in on a Saturday morning and was surprised that there was a line and that they had sold out of a few things, but I still had: *Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich - Got this one for the hubby & he said it was good! *Sausage Egg and Cheese Bagel Bomb - DELISH. Wow, just perfectly seasoned and perfectly baked. There was not a soggy bit in sight even though I'd imagine something like this could get soggy really easily. It's basically like a robust stuffed bagel. They have three different types so I'll have to come back to try the other two. They had a good assortment of doughnuts but I didn't try any. Ambience here is no frills and you still feel like you're in the 70's/80's but it's kinda charming that way -- like the way it is when you walk into Benny's Bakery! read more

I was drawn to this fine establishment for the maple bacon donuts. I ordered 2 maple bacon, 2 Samoa (like the Girl Scout cookie), 1 filled with cookie dough (white top), 1 peanut butter filled (chocolate topped with nuts). The donuts were average. They were fresh and soft but didn't wow me. FAVORITES - Peanut butter filled donut (it was like a whipped peanut butter cream frosting) - Cookie dough filled donut NOTABLE - Samoa was interesting. Tasted very much like the Girl Scout cookie. It had coconut, caramel and was drizzled with chocolate. It was a special donut so not a normal selection. NOT SPECIAL - Maple bacon donut was not great. It could use more maple. It tasted more like a frosted donut with bacon. This was a premium priced donut, and the inspiration for my visit. HISTORY This place has been in business for a long time. We always stop here to pick up donuts on our way to our grandkids soccer games. I usually also pick up a breakfast burrito to eat on the way. Great food and service to match! They also have the tools and supplies for a home baker. read more

Baker's Nook is a gem in Saline. Delicious donuts, and their lunches that change often, are delicious. A must have is the cream of broccoli soup. If you need a coffee fix, ask Megan to make it for you. She is so sweet, and really knows what tastes good. read more

I had wandered in there to look at all the cookie cutters a few years ago. Recently, I was looking for pan liners for mini loaves. They didn't have them in stock, but the lady who helped me was very kind to go look in the back, in case they had any there. The answer was no, but she said they'd be back in stock within a few days. She handed me a business card and suggested that I go to the website to see if they were back in stock before I came back to the store. A website with up-to-date inventory info? Fabulous! These people are very organized. While I was there, I looked around at all the fancy cake decorating supplies. I found many colorful cupcake liners, candy decorations made from frosting, candles of all kinds -- including candles that spell out a person't name with individual letters -- candy making supplies, frosting and tons of decorating tips for pastry bags, wedding cake toppers, and exotic things like edible jewels! While I usually make healthy, whole-grain muffins of all kinds, and there might be a few fun things in this store for me, mainly this store is for the serious cake decorating hobbyist or professional pastry chef. Such a great store. I have a couple baking stores in my area but sometimes make the hour long drive here just because it is so awesome. First of all - its CLEAN. SO CLEAN! For some reason all the baking stores around me are covered in a layer of dust and just totally unorganized. Gross. Everyone here is so friendly and nice. Can't find something? someone behind the counter will help you with a huge smile. They have a super large cookie cutter wall and I always spend a good deal of time just browsing every time I am in. Amazing!! They have these cinnamon chip muffins that are crunchy-soft on top and moist and soft in the middle. The gentlemen who helped me was so nice. I needed a sample of something they didnt currently have but he was able to fill some cupcakes that had just come out so I could try the filling. Since we're having cupcakes instead of a wedding cake, my next big project is to make a cupcake stand. I've been searching all over online and on ebay for cheap ones that look decent but they're all so expensive! Also, a lot of the sites only sold bulk quantities, and I didn't need 100 cake boards to make my one measly stand. I went through different websites and stumbled upon www.shopbakersnook.com. To my surprise, they sold individual cake boards in all different shapes and sizes for very reasonable prices! I ended up buying 4 round waxed cake boards in different sizes to make a tier-like stand. The total price for the 4 boards was only $3.00, but shipping was $6.60 so the total was $9.90. Not bad. I'm anxiously waiting for them to arrive at my place so that I can get started. They have TONS of good items on their website, so check them out! I am a big cupcake fan and found lots of fun and pretty materials that can definitely spice up any plain ol' cupcake. I was looking for a special "ophthalmology" themed cake for a little party we were having for my fiancés residency class and I hit the bakery jackpot by choosing this place! The staff here at The Bakers Nook was INCREDIBLE! They were very accommodating and helpful with guiding me towards designing my cake. It came out looking great and everyone loved it! Being a long long term customer who drives a distance it would not hurt use your manners (even the owner). This is not the first time this has happened. I don't think we will be back. I wanted a doll cake for my daughter's birthday. She has outgrown Barbies but those seem to be the only ones available anywhere. At Baker's nook, I was able to bring in the doll that she wanted and they created the most beautiful cake. I called around a few other places they wanted twice as much. I went in here to get some decorative items for my child's birthday cake. I had my two young children with me, and of course one of them needed to use the restroom. I asked the sales associate, and she basically berated me, stating that they didn't have a public restroom and that there was a sign on the door clearly stating that fact. She even marched over to the door and pointed to the sign that I hadn't noticed on the way in. My daughter looked like she was going to cry. BEWARE! Baker's Nook absolutely RUINED my wedding cake! They may have a great store but DO NOT hire them for a decorated cake. I tried out a number of cake bakeries in the area for my June 2013 wedding and ultimately decided to go with Baker's Nook because they had wonderful rental cake stands, were reasonably priced, and yes, their buttercream frosting is awesome. I also saw a picture of a very unique and sophisticated cake that I really loved in one of their design books. I was told it could be done in fondant, and was very excited. I put down my deposit and was happy to have one more thing checked off the list. When I tried to confirm the design six weeks before the wedding, I began to run into issues. I sent them the picture that I picekd out of their book, and asked for a few color changes, I wanted black, teal and silver, the colors of my wedding. First they started talking about needing ribbon with wire in it that I had to provide. Ribbon? I was in shock. I was told it could all be done in fondant. When I asked them about this discrepancy, they told me that it could be done in fondant, at an additional cost. I crunched the wedding numbers and agreed to the extra money. Then they told me that I still needed to provide ribbon for the bottom of each teir because they couldn't do fondant there. Fine, I dropped by the shop with the ribbon and was hoping to talk to Anne, who I had been emailing with about the final design. She was on the phone with a supplier, and would be for hours and was not available to talk to me. I called a few times that week and was not able to reach Anne. Not only that, no one I spoke to offered to give her a message or have her call me back to talk. After a few more emails back and forth, I thought we were finally on the same page. The week of the wedding, I started getting more email from Anne asking about how much gray fondant I wanted on the cake. Gray? I wanted silver. Anne responded with a note informing me that they don't do silver fondant and that was why she thought we had decided on gray. This was the first I had heard about it! And it was way too late to change anything since the wedding was days away. I told her just to leave the gray off and use Teal and Black instead. This was when Anne sent me a note telling me how hard it was to pick out a cake over email. I was absolutely shocked by this response because I sent her a detailed picture out of her own book, I had stopped by the shop numerous times and called numerous times. She never bothered to call me back or suggest that we set up a time to talk or meet in person! The customer service I received was hurrendous. I just hoped that the cake turned out well. I WAS ABSOLUTELY APPALLED WHEN I WALKED INTO MY RECEPTION! MY CAKE LOOKED LIKE A TODDLER HAD PUT LINES OF PLAY DOUGH ON THE CAKE. THE STRIPES WEREN'T EVEN STRAIGHT! EVERYONE WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CAKE AT THE RECEPTION AFTER SEEING THE ORIGINAL PICTURE I HAD SENT THE BAKERY. DO NOT USE BAKER'S NOOK FOR YOUR CAKE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT SOMETHING SOPHISTICATED OR DELICATE. THE CAKE I RECEIVED WAS SO BAD, I CAN'T EVEN INCLUDE IT IN MY PHOTO ALBUM OR COLLAGES. read more

I ordered a cake for a party in early March, and sent them the picture of the cake I wanted (pink ombre rose cake). I spoke with the baker to make sure that she could make the cake look like that, and she assured me that it would be easy. The cake we did get was instead frosted using an open star tip, that created the ridged effect (and the color was correct), but was not at all the rose style that I asked for. I had sent a picture of the exact style I wanted, so I didn't expect there to be an issue, but that was not the case. I wasn't the one who picked up the cake, or else I would have spoken to them right then, but by the time I saw the cake it was too late. I am extremely upset with this place. Not only did they screw up the date on my cakes to be made, they stole money from me. They refunded my money back to my bank account, then took it back out the next day. I still have to get it back from them. When I went in to pick up my cakes for my baby shower, not only did they screw up on the date, but made me feel like I was the bad guy. I wasn't even mad until she started to get nasty with me. I just asked them to refund my money and then went to Sam's to get my cake at such short notice. By the way, Sam's is so much cheaper and very polite. I was in tears when I came into Sam's and they completely calmed me down. Baker's nook was not professional and all they should of said was I am sorry for the mistake and gave me my money back and I would of taken it as just a mistake.
