I'd been wanting to get here for YEARS but always seemed to find myself in Dexter after they'd closed. Finally, after an early afternoon meeting in town, I was able to swing by and I was not disappointed! Donuts were the plan from the start and I got a dozen beauties. While I don't mind over the top donut flavors/toppings I have to admit my favorite is just a plain glazed yeasted donut. You know, light and airy and melts in your mouth. Dexter Bakery totally delivers on this front! I got three of them and hoarded them all for myself. My next favorite is once again, plain yeasted but this time dipped in chocolate. These were also great! I also got a couple of cream filled options, the maple glazed cinnamon roll donut, and a blueberry cake donut for the husband. Couldn't leave without some of their soft pretzel sticks, too! It was all excellent. In 2015 they turned 100 years young. I guess that makes them 109 this year! Quite an achievement in this day and age. Here's to 109 more years and beyond of delicious donuts and baked goods!

Nice to see an old-fashioned bakery from 1915 still around in this charming small town west of Ann Arbor. It doesn't look like much has changed for many decades. The pastries are standard. Not bad, but nothing stood out to me. Bring cash. There is an administrative fee of 3.75% for all credit/debit card purchases. I recommend the Whoopie Pie for something soft, creamy, and slightly sweet. There were several savory options like leek or spinach and feta pastries.

DJ's in AA is usually our go-to, but we're starting to explore the B2B trail+Cornman Farms in this area & I am always a fan of stopping into local bakeries! After walking on the trail, we stopped by Dexter Bakery. We ordered 7 donuts and 2 pretzel sticks...for 2 people. Yes. We ate it all. The yeast-raised donuts are awesome here, but the unassuming Maple Twist is where it's at! It's a cinnamon yeast-raised donut with maple glaze. It basically tastes like a cinnamon roll but with the addictive texture of a fluffy yeast donut. These things are GIANT too! I'll be back on a morning bike ride to try to snag a pretzel roll!

Oh what a find this place is for a visitor! I was sad to discover the Dexter cider mill was closed on the day I was in town but I forgot all about that when I found the donuts here: Pumpkin spice, apple cider, and the cream filled and Yeasted?!? Omg! Amazing. I also bought the soft pretzel sticks and the date cookie. The date cookie was possibly my favorite cookie ever. Posting a pic here because I can't believe how good it is! Everyone who works here is so nice too.

    A simply delicious glazed.

There's nothing I love more than a good old-fashioned bakery. The Dexter Bakery is a place where locals gather, to eat a donut, grab a cup of coffee, and read the newspaper. It's also where blue collar workers fuel up for the day ahead. It's a gathering spot for students. It's a place for families to buy the kids a treat. It's clearly a neighborhood institution. But I'm not from the neighborhood. I'm an interloper who made the drive, parked in the free lot behind the building, and came in looking for some amazing yeast raised donuts. My standards for donuts are ridiculously high. However, if all you've ever eaten are donuts from a national chain, the ones at Dexter Bakery will be the best ones you've ever had. The chocolate icing is one of my favorite things there, because you can actually taste the cocoa. Amazingly, that's a rare thing in the donut world these days. The crumb of the yeast raised dough is fantastic. It's rich and has a pleasing elasticity. And the donuts are fried quite well. So far, the chocolate custard bismark is my favorite of the bunch. But I'm also a sucker for that flavor combination. The custard is one of the better versions I've found locally. People seem to love the pretzels and the apple fritters. I tried both the plain pretzel rods and the cheese stuffed pretzel roll, and wasn't feeling the love. But maybe that's what happens when you've spent years in Philly and New York eating crusty pretzels from street vendors. The apple fritter was quite good. I could see how it could become addictive as its texture is unique for the form, exhibiting the same richness and elasticity as the yeast raised donuts. But when all is said and done, I'd just rather have a chocolate custard bismark. Although the bismarks aren't cheap. For that matter, neither is gas. While I do enjoy my visits to the Dexter Bakery, I haven't quite found anything yet that's worth the drive just for the sweet treats alone. But if you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out. That said, you're a local, you probably already know.

With this update, I'm notching up the rating of my previous review after stopping into the "Bakery" on Main Street in this endearing small town of Dexter, Michigan. The Dexter Bakery has been serving up homespun donuts, scones, cakes, cookies and other baked goods to this community since 1915! Now ask yourself...how many establishments do you know that have lasted over a century! I think their longevity says it all...this place offers a great product with neighborly small town service with a smile. My wife and I are here, halfway through today's 18-mile bike ride, for their highly-prized pretzel rolls (filled with either ham & cheese or pepperoni). We are like the many other bikers who stop in with bike helmets strapped to their heads to get a sweet pick-me-up before continuing to peddle on. This place remains lovingly caught in a 1950s time warp with its century-old, quarter-sawn oak display cases full of old-school donuts. You won't find the crazy colorful varieties that are so popular these days. Just good old fashioned cake and yeast donuts with the occasional sugar-cinnamon, glazed or chocolate icing...honest, old-school product. The good nature and positive attitude of the bakery's clerk sealed the deal today with her friendly greeting as I walked through the door. I find that great product combined with friendly small town hospitality is a dynamite combo that's hard to beat...5 solid stars.

I ordered Sesame Street cookies for my sons second birthday. They did an awesome job with all the cookies. I paid an extra .30 a cookie for them to be individually wrapped so my guests could take them home. The cookie decorator did a phenomenal job!

The donuts are excellent, they've been our office staple for years, always requested. Can't go wrong with this place, Dom's or DJ's.

Best donuts in Washtenaw county. Parking is tricky in the early morning. Can call ahead your dinner.

It's a cute, cozy mill with amazing cider, made in-house. This fall, I got their frozen cider and loved the cinnamon taste. I've also previously had their apple donuts which were nice and warm! I am certainly not denying the great selection of apple products- donuts, caramel dipped apples, cider, hard cider, and more. I am hoping it's a bad coincidence that in the last 3 years I have received rude customer service and want to give the benefit of the doubt to a family owned business. It always seems to be very busy whenever I go and I want to attribute the staff to being stressed or hot, however I do expect common courtesy wherever I go, even if it is busy. The staff threw my apples into a bag without care, grabbed my items from me in a frenzy to ring me up, and rushed me into a decision, all while not even thanking me for coming in or making eye contact. I observed this with other customers as well. I'm writing a review after visiting multiple times because it has been the same treatment every visit. I again, want to be as generous as I can to a local business because I love to visit places like this, but want to provide honest feedback on a place I enjoy!

We went early in the morning to get there before the crowds or the buzzing bees around the spills that happen outside when it's so busy mid morning on a Sunday. They can turn those sounds out from the kitchen so fast and hot before the line gets longer than the length if the building we bought enough to fill us up for the morning but took more to eat later too they are so fresh that even the next day we happily polished off the rest. My favorite are the cinnamon sugar and the cider hit. But they have cold cider as well and a case of random other pastries made there too. The apple fritters looked enticing and were selling fast but I can get those at home where nobody makes cider donuts like this! I hate missing even one year doing this but lucky we could fit it in this year They also cave a cute gift section. Specialty treats that range from maple syrup to fancy chips and spices line the walls. But I'm there for the cider and donuts. Staff is so quick and accommodating, a perfect vacation treat
