My favorite restaurant in all of New Bern. A must visit for local and visitors alike!

We love dining at Bakers Kitchen for breakfast. They have wonderful food and a friendly staff. I was, however, disappointed in their lack of Covid precautions. We sat upstairs and as people came in, they were seated all around us without maintaining 6 ft between tables. Also, our waitress was the only one upstairs who was wearing a mask. The other waiters/waitresses did not have masks on at all. It was disappointing to see the lack of regard for adequate Covid precautions. read more

Best breakfast spot we have found since moving down to the Moorhead city area. Baked items are super fresh and super good. Coffee was good. Sausage biscuits and gravy, French toast, and chicken and waffles were order d among our group and everyone loved it. Be prepared to wait as we went on a Friday morning at 10 and had to wait 20 minutes for a table for 4. Service was good as well. read more

It's a very friendly place, but, the wait is outrageous and the food gets sloppier and lower quality every time I go. It's not cheap so I would expect to get what I pay for. In conclusion, I do not go there anymore because the wait and the food is not worth my money. read more

We had to try this place out because everyone we have talked to recommended this spot. It was insanely packed when we went on a Sunday for lunch with lines down the street. The wait staff was good, we had to wait about 35 mins to get a table. The food was good, but could've been better. With it being so packed our food didn't come out right away. So it made the food more room temp, instead of fresh off the grill. The food still had good flavor and we will return to give them another shot. read more

Mediocre at best. I got the breakfast sandwich and the bread wasn't toasted, so it was a soggy and soft plain bread. We also tried their chocolate chip cookie and molasses cookie which were sub par. Maybe their other breakfast items are good, but I wouldn't consider this to be a good bakery. read more

Last time I was here 5 star. NO question. That was breakfast. I saw plenty of breakfast plates coming out and looked great. It was 1230 so I wanted lunch. It was very busy. 30 min wait. No big deal. We sat and ordered. Let me tell you the taste of the food was great. However, my wife ordered chicken salad. Well she got a glob of chic salad on a piece of romaine. Ok maybe an error...I ordered roasted turkey lettuce bacon and gouda sanwich with side of sweet potato cass. Sweet potato cass. Awesome. Sandwich. The staff here is the best in town, always serving with a smile and they all are extremely personable. The food is pretty good too. It's all well priced (with the exception of their extras which are just a bit expensive) and all very tasty. The yogurt parfait is delicious and the grilled cinnamon roll is a unique concept that I am a huge fan of. It's all yummy and just a cozy place that is great for breakfast. I have never had anything "bad" at Bakers Square and I can tell you they have the absolute BEST cookies anywhere I've ever been. I go up many Satrday's to purchase several dozen cookies. You gotta go early or they will be gone or reserved and sold already!! Best pancakes too! read more

This is my second time here for breakfast and this is the best place in New Bern for home style breakfast. Angela, our server is THE BEST, so sweet and kind. When you are in downtown New Bern, make sure you stop off at Bakers Kitchen. The biscuits and gravy hit the spot. So did everything else. read more

Delicious! I had coffee, 2 eggs, 2 decent size pieces of bacon, a biscuit, and their Dutch potatoes which are to DIE for!! all for $7. I couldn't even finish all of my food. Great service, will definitely be returning when I visit new bern again! read more

The third star is for the bakery side as the cinnamon bun was excellent. Lunch was not. My French onion soup was pitiful, maybe a 1/2 a cup of broth with way too much bread and slim sliver of cheese. My sister's loaded potato soup was more like a stew. I should have gotten the BLT as it is hard to mess up. My sister enjoyed her BLT but I got the warm turkey sandwich which was ok. We had breakfast this morning and I was disappointed in my meal - the omelet was ordered with onions, mushrooms and tomatoes - and it did, only the egg was wrapped around raw ingredients with sliced cheese melted on top. Went here for lunch. Worst lunch ever. Maybe the breakfast is good but don't try the lunch. The soup of the day was French Onion - my favorite! This was a cup with a slice of cheese on the bottom covered with raw onions and bouillon and topped off with croutons! And it was lukewarm. My husband got a BLT. He had to take off the tomato and there was no mayo on it. I complained about the soup and they took the charge off the bill so there is that. read more

Read the reviews on here, so I decided to eat breakfast here. The place was decorated nice w/ your usual coffee/bfast decor. I liked their red coffee cups. The coffee was a light roast so not strong enough for me. I ordered the "Bun & Sum"; 2 eggs over easy, bacon & a cinnamon roll. I asked for my bacon to be medium soft not crispy. When I got it, it was hard and cold. The smokey flavor was the only thing good about it. The cinnamon roll was cut in half and barely warm?! Really?! We have eaten here a few times, my husband loves the french toast and syrup. The food is nothing special. All things that can be made from home, but it is nice to go out. The thing that makes me hate this place is the service. There is a specific waitress who is rude to all her customers and just doesn't seem to like her job. You also never know how your food will come out depending on who is serving you. The pastry items may or may not be heated up, you may get them before you eat or after, and on occasion, you might not even get what you order. My advice to the owners: hire adults and get rid of the young staff! read more

We visited The Baker's Square on a Saturday morning a few months ago after several co-workers recommended it to me. Our party of two was seated right away at about 9 am, which surprised me because I had heard there was often a long wait on the weekends. Not the case when we went, there were several tables open and a few tables just leaving. The decor was very plain and the waiter was very quiet, I don't think he spoke more than 2 or 3 words to us the entire time we dined - not a complaint, just an observation. I ordered a veggie omelet which was very bland and the veggies were undercooked (basically raw). My husband enjoyed his omelet (The Baker's Omelet) which was filled with several different cheeses, meats and vegetables - his veggies were cooked fine, so there was definitely an inconsistency between our two dishes. The omelets each came with a slice of homemade bread which I really enjoyed. We also ordered a cinnamon roll which was about the size of a saucer and very sweet, soft and perfectly delicious - highly recommend if you're into super-sweet, cinnamon breakfast pastries - but do yourself a favor and split it with someone you like. I think I would have gone into a sugar-coma if I ate the whole thing. Looking back at the reviews, I really wish we had tried the french toast or pancakes (and that's what most people in the restaurant were ordering - they must've been in the know) since that's apparently their claim to fame. We purposefully didn't because I was dying to try the cinnamon roll and I didn't want to overdose on sweet carbs (silly me!!). Even though my husband enjoyed his omelet, it's hard for me to recommend one since mine was so unappetizing. The coffee was of Folgers/Maxwell House quality. Bottom line: Decent local breakfast place, inexpensive prices, unobtrusive service, spotty quality. Try the cinnamon roll. read more

I walked in the door and immediately thought this place was going to serve some wonderful food. although it was busy, my wife and I was seated in less then 10 minutes. The decor and environment, to include the staff, was very pleasant and set the mood just right. I had the country fried steak, eggs over medium, dutch potatoes, and a sweet potato biscuit. Everything was full of flavor and tastyness. The country fried steak was cooked just right. The over medium eggs were cooked just right. The Dutch potatoes were nice and cheesy and the sweet potato biscuit was fluffy heaven. The only thing that I could complain about are the prices, such as the $1 for 1 extra egg. read more

Hit or miss. Ate here a few years ago and had a great meal. Recently had breakfast. Had the breakfast burrito and was about as palatable as one of those microwave burritos you buy at a gas station quickmart. Probably won't eat here again. Since moving to New Bern in December- I have been here 3 times. Never disappointed at all! It is great homemade food and plenty of options! This restaurant is so sweet. It's run by Mennonites I believe. (Girls wear dresses and little white caps on there heads). and the food is very fresh and hot every time I've been there. They make there bread and pastries fresh there every morning, so it always smells like your grandmas kitchen. I give this a 5 star, 'cause the chef comes out to greet us each time we go, and the wait staff are quick to fill those coffee cups. They serve Breakfast ,Lunch and dinner but my favorite is the breakfast. They have this syrup butter they make that comes out hot that you drizzle over those GI-NORMOUS pancakes. If you like grits, they have it to. You HAVE to try there Cinnamon rolls or Pecan rolls.That'll jump start your morning for sure. read more
