Normally love coming here, but this morning, after asking for a toasted bagel, the guy put it in the panini press, squashing it so it tasted nothing like a bagel at all. Best bagels ever. My friend and I came here from Australia on a recommendation, oh man, best decision ever. We came back most days we were in NYC for their bagels just to try all the different cream cheeses. The jalapeno one in particular was the bomb. One of the mornings I could only fit in half a bagel, so I squished the other half (cream cheese and all) in my bag in case of emergency. Ate it about 5 hours later whilst waiting in a long line for something or other, still just as tasty, despite looking a bit worse for wear. The guys behind the counter are a bit touch and go with remembering orders but I thought that made things hilarious rather than annoying. I'm convinced that this is the friendliest and happiest bagel place in New York City. Everyone who works here is always very patient and pleasant and willing to make small talk. Overpriced and inefficient. Seriously guys, $4.75 for a bagel with a couple slices of swiss cheese?? Considering that the bagel costs a dollar plain, 3.75 seems like a lot for two slices of cheese. When I brought this up, the guy told me that next time I may as well order it as a sandwich with more cheese and fixings. Uh, no thanks, I don't need to eat a quarter-pound of cheese for breakfast. I downloaded this awful app just to review one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I ordered 3 breakfast sandwiches on grub hub, they said it would be about 45 minutes for delivery despite being only a couple minutes away from me. No big deal. An hour goes by, nothing. Hour 15. Hour and a half goes by with no word. We call the place up, after about 15 of waiting on the phone, the guy says the delivery guy got caught up and will be there in 10. Reasonable. We wait 10 minutes. Then 30.then ANOTHER HOUR AND 15 MINUTES. we call back, the guy gives us a run around, then he says the food should've been left outside on the stoop. Like what? Who would leave food outside an apartment building in the cold? There was nothing there. 10 minutes later delivery guy shows up. 2 and a half hours later food is finally here. But here's the best part, the food was ice cold. Cheese was literally solid where it was previously melted. You ever try heating a bagel in a microwave? It comes out terribly. And they got two orders wrong. So overall they did a horrible job. Don't ever order online from them unless you order a day in advance and love cold food. Oh yea, no refund either. This place has good bagels, but you literally have to look at their hands to make sure your orders gets done right. I caught them twice now giving me the wrong bagel and one time they didn't even put cream cheese on the bagel. The bagels here are great and the egg sandwiches are delicious... With that being said, this place otherwise absolutely sucks. I have been here 6 times and the 6th time will be my last. Every single time I have ordered from this place, the order is consistently wrong. It's unfortunate, because the bagels are actually really good. How hard is it to toast a sesame bagel???? I order the same thing every single time. A sesame bagel, toasted, with scallion cream cheese on the side. Did I say on the side? When I sit down to eat my toasted bagel, the bagel has been toasted without being sliced. The outside is burnt. Talk about lazy and stupid. I usually have to complain and ask for my bagel to be "fixed". Separately, over the summer, my boyfriend and I wanted to get sandwiches and eat in the park. I ordered turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and horseradish on a hero. As I'm watching my "server" put together my sandwich, with one glove on one hand, the other hand uncovered and dirty, he places the turkey, lettuce, tomato, and onion on the roll and proceeds to throw some sauerkraut on top. If you didn't understand my order, which I repeated literally 3 times, then please have the decency to clarify in English. Complete idiots. This guy tried to put sauerkraut, instead of horseradish, on my sandwich. I ended up having to yell at him over the counter because the music was so loud. "I DO NOT WANT SAUERKRAUT, I ASKED FOR HORSERADISH, WHICH ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS". I have to babysit the staff while they are making my sandwich because it never comes out right. And they don't give a sh*t. P.S. If cold beverages are meant to be cold, you should probably turn the cooler ON COLD. The only reason this place doesn't get 0 stars, is because the bagels are great. The service sucks, the kids are lazy and degenerate. The manager really needs to reevaluate. read more

This place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I called two weeks ago to place and order was put on hold and they never came back to my call. After being on hold for 15 minutes I hung up, I had to call the other location just to tell them to call someone at the Greenpoint store to tell them their phone was off the hook. RIDICULOUS!!! I tried again today, I ordered a bagel with 3 egg whites, spinach and cheese. My sandwich arrives no cheese, which i was charged for, and I was charged for two extra eggs!! I called back and said isn't it standard to use more than one egg for your omelet? he said yes we use two. I said so why would I be charged for two extra eggs then??? I dont know miss that's how my boss says to charge people....RIDICULOUS. I was so annoyed. I hung up then decided they could take back their 7 dollar mistake of a sandwich. It would be nice if they could open on the time that is posted on the door. I pick up bagels on the way to work and I have been at there door at 640 and the hours say they are open at 6. As a new business owner in the area I decided to try them out. Horrible attitudes over the phone and in person. Messed up order and then blamed me for ordering at too late on a Saturday...... An hour before they closed. The next day I ordered and called back less than 1 minute later to cancel one item and could hear someone say tell the broad its made already......... It's weird how polarizing this place is on Yelp -- its current 3-star rating is overwhelmingly composed of 1- and 5-star reviews. The 1-star reviews are overwrought. The service can be a bit slow, sure, and it doesn't help that they often blast scenecore and pop-punk. But the bagels are fresh, chewy, and well-proportioned in terms of flavor -- good enough to earn the place at least 3 stars (and likely, as you can tell by my rating, even more). The everything bagel in particular shines because of its subtle mix of seeds, spices, and salt. Its relative mild-ness allows for clean pairing with plain cream cheese or with simple sandwich toppings (turkey, roast beef, et. al. [often stacked high]); of course, so many other everything bagels overpower their contents. Perhaps Baker's Dozen polarizes precisely because it takes a stand. What appears, at the door, to be a run-of-the-mill bagel place reveals itself to have a bit of an edge -- in its service, its soundtrack, its bagel-making -- which can please or upset: 1 or 5 stars, as it were. Me, I suppose I'm firmly on the "pleased" side of the spectrum; of course, there are still better bagels out there, hence 4 stars. read more
