Cute little place we found after we checked out if our room. We ordered a breakfast bagel with egg, cheese, and ham. The bagel was soft and chewy. I'm not sure what coffee they carried, but it was delicious! The employees there were friendly and extremely helpful. We sat at a booth in the corner, opposite the counter where you order your food. A customer came in with a concern, and it was taken care of right away. People looked genuinely happy and overly friendly. Kinda felt like I was in a Twilight Zone episode. The town of Brooklyn, as a whole, was very accommodating. If we are ever in the area again, we will most definitely be back!

Today was my first and last visit here. Overpriced and rude with a side of smartass on the way out the door. No, thank you.

I have yet to have a burnt or watered down coffee unlike Dunkin across the street which is almost every time I go there and instantly regret it.

Alamode Specialty Foods - Cross section of their excellent eggplant parmigiana

    Alamode Specialty Foods

"I'm all yours Put me to the test…read moreLove is my specialty" (Roberta Flack) It's hard to say what Alamode Specialty Foods clearly specializes in, because they have quite a lot of special treats everywhere you look on their shelves and inside their display cases. Want some examples? Of course you do, or you wouldn't be reading this. Cookies, muffins, pastries, beverages, bottled sauces and condiments, candies, nuts cakes, grab and go entrees, soups, meat pies, a deli counter, sandwiches, snacks, plenty of deviled egg varieties, breads and bagels, and to top things off, how about 30 or so ice creams? We had a blast checking out this cool little country store in Connecticut's quiet corner. We bought a hunk of Eggplant Parmesan from their deli ($10.95), a pint of spicy chicken corn chowdah ($6.95), two singles scoops of ice cream (PbB Banana and Mayan Chocolate) at $5 each, and a big Cinnamon Swirl Croissant ($4.95). The total was $32.85 before tax. We split the Eggplant for dinner, and I can attest that it was excellent. It was a big portion, piled high of very tender eggplant slices in a marinara sauce. Eggplant can be a tricky food and it can turn up tough and rubbery from time to time. But not here. I had the Chowdah for lunch today. It was loaded with corn, carrots, potatoes, and quite a lot of shredded chicken in a creamy broth. I was disappointed by the lack of spiciness in a dish advertised as spicy. But I'd get that missing spice very soon. The ice creams were very good but were on the expensive side for $5 a single scoop. When I ordered the Mayan Chocolate, the super friendly young lady behind the counter wanted to be sure I knew it would be spicy. Well, she was right about the spice; it had an undertone of chili peppers that mixed very well with the cold chocolate ice cream. But spicy rarely bothers me, so I thought It was awesome. The only bummer we had in our grocery bag was that big Cinnamon Swirl Croissant. It wasn't exactly fresh and was quite brittle and crumbly in places. But it was big, and the center of the pastry seemed a lot "fresher" and softer. That portion was quite good. We had a very enjoyable visit overall, and I can definitely see repeat visits to Alamode in our future.

Bagel sandwich also yummy although liked the calzone more. A little slow to get food out but it was a busy Saturday afternoon. Can't forget a scoop of ice cream to close out the meal!

Appropriately, I was not buying cupcakes for contemporaneous consumption. They were indeed for . . . Later. I bought 5 different flavors to share with my family. I bought two lemon, because I definitely wanted to try the lemon. I also bought a Chocolate Peanut Butter, a Biscoff,, a Salted Caramel Butter Pecan, and a Strawberry. I tried the lemon and the Salted Caramel. The cake and icing in both were fresh, and had good flavor and texture. The flavors were accurate to description. There was a small reservoir of flavoring that extended from the bottom of the icing layer into the cake. That's always a nice touch in my book. My one note rating-wise, is that the cupcakes were not as ornate as the top tier CT cupcake places I've been to. Still tasty though. The shop was more functional than cute, but it was definitely professional and clean. Service was helpful and friendly. 4.25 Stars

I ordered cupcakes for a birthday celebration for my husband who lives in a nursing facility. I picked them up the day before and they were perfectly packaged for travel. After keeping them refrigerated as required they were fluffy and delicious. The fillings and toppings so rich and fresh! They disappeared as if by magic! I sampled the lemon cream, Boston cream and the carrot cake. But the menu is quite large and price points vary by size and "fanciness." You're sure to find something delicious for an event or just to have with a cup of tea. They make cakes as well from small size to all size wedding cakes. The service was flawless from phone order to pickup and the staff was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this wonderful spot for a treat for now ... or later!

We ended our visit with a visit to the cows and milking barn. We were too early to see the milking process but we did walk the little trail where kids can participate in a scavenger hunt. Get supplies in the tractor mailbox at the beginning if the path. A few heifers are penned up outside the milking barn and several more were standing in front of a huge fan at the back. At 90° even the cows want a fan! There's a good amount of parking in front of and to the left of the market. Handicap spots are right by the market door.
