I rarely give 5 star reviews but this place is exceptional in service, food, and atmosphere. My boyfriend and I came in around 11 and did the lunch combination. I had a California Ruben with mushroom and Brie soup and he had a Turkey BLT with Caesar salad and chicken. Both delicious! We concluded the meal with the praline bread pudding and it was phenomenal. Had lunch there today; service was excellent and the food very tasty as usual. I ordered the salad with pecans, berries, grapes topped with grilled chicken. The salad came out very skimpy. Usually served in a large bowl but today was served on a square plate about half the usual portion I regularly receive. Have you wondered whether or not you should share your experience? I have and this time I had to step back and ponder. A person could have become severely ill, however this establishment did their best to resuscitate. A GF and I went here for lunch. She is 78 love her to pieces. The place was packed but we were taken to an nice table. I have been doing my best to stay shy of gluten, sis has Celiac's, it's genetic, and I have been GF for about 8 weeks. Down 8 pounds, worth it! So I will say I might be gluten sensitive. The menu is full of sandwiches and pizza so I inquired about GF. They have a separate menu full of GF. (Just realized that GF could be Girl Friend or Gluten Free.). I ordered a GF burger with fries, my friend ordered a regular burger with fries. Service was slow but the place was packed and my Friend and I had a lot to chat about. In came our plates.... we each had a burger and fries. The buns looked exactly the same. I cut mine in half and took two bites. It was a "real" bun. It took me a bit to flag her down. I questioned it.... she took it back to the kitchen for verification. Yep, they gave me regular bun. Why take the time to generate an entire menu for people who choose to be gluten free for medical reasons or other reasons and not stay true to it. If it had been my sister she may have gone directly to a hospital. The apparent manager brought me a new burger with a GF bun, (no not my GF's buns) and he was full of apologies and promises to make corrective actions (I took it home for dinner). I'm not sure how this could have happened, but it did. I suspect I should give a one star for this event but the sincerity of the waitress and manager combined with them taking both of our meals off the bill showed their sincerity. I am hoping that the person it the kitchen that made that decision got their buns toasted. read more

Delicious place was very busy but we got seated in about 30 min on a Saturday at noon.

As a former server for many years. I could tell on the last few visits to the Ghent location that there is turmoil. The staff are over worked and under paid. I also know an employee here and was able to find out some behind the scene info from him. In some situations the managers are only making .50 more than the new hires, particularly in the kitchen. The food is okay, the new vendor def has thrown a few curveballs and they only have limited access to sub par items. The staff are being treated unfairly and the new general manager will find a reason to fire staff if they do not fit with her long term plan (not sure what that even is honestly besides having zero staff). Ruling with fear rarely works, people are afraid to say no to additional shifts which leave them exhausted and burned out to where they have stopped caring about the food they are sending out. The servers are all new and the few original remaining, they have been tasked to train the endless line of new hires. This last week alone I believe 3 people were terminated, one being their amazing catering manager, April. We spoke to her on several occasions as I needed to make arrangements for an event to take place at my home. She was completely on point, and this was a memorial service for my late husband. Her attention to detail was amazing and we were all overly impressed by her compassion. This needed to be handled with kid gloves as the passing of my military husband is still hard to process. We called so many times, and she gave us her personal cell phone number so I could reach her any time with questions or concerns. She was not bothered with our constant question, she responded one time as late as almost midnight( I didn't realize how last it was when I reached out) she helped put our minds at ease during the week leading up to the event. She also made these adorable chalkboard signs to display the name of the dish so company would know what it what, saving me from having to stand there and explain, instead I was able to enjoy the time with my family. April was a true life saver for me, she got the details she needed and took it from there. She thought of everything, but my only complaint is that I hear she's no longer with the company came by to drop off the chalkboard Easels in case she could reuse them was told she was fired, and when i inquired why, I was told by a sad looking staff member that they weren't sure, but they were all in shock over it. I don't care what happened. If I was hiring, I'd find a way to get her on my team. She is clearly capable or wearing many different hats and that is a valuable person to have on your side.so April if you're reading this review, THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE CELEBRATION OF MY HUSBANDS LIFE A BEAUTIFUL MEMORY. read more

The kitchen got behind, and we watched them hustle out 12 bags of to-go orders while 4 tables were open and they couldn't seat anyone. Cue the meltdown from a starving 4 year old. Had not been here in a minute. My wife and I went here to change things up on Thursday and the place was very busy. So they have 3 dollar beers and 6 dollar pizzas (limited to three) and I have to say the cheese pizza was not bad at all. I think the house for 7 bucks is over priced personal but whatever. The wife had a burger with a side salad and she enjoyed it (had to screw up a burger). The desserts that came out looked awesome, I am a fat boy so they did not slip past my radar. I had a nice lunch here. I hadnt been out here in quite some time and was happy with their farm to table seasonal options. I arrived early enough to enjoy brunch. The southern Benny was delightful. The salty Edwards ham against the sweet and soft of the sweet potato biscuit. Topped with a perfectly poached egg and hollandaise. Delicious. Plus the hashbrowns which were perfectly cooked. My server was multi tasking between tables and bar which was a bit tour on her but ahe handled it well. I foniahed with a crepe filled with chocolate mousse and fresh strawberry. Couldnt finish as it is very rich. Everything was almost perfect. The one sour note of my lunch were the horrible humans siting at the table next to me. They were ridiculously rude to their server and spent the whole meal complaining about their lives and children but berating anyone who did not have children. I felt horrible for their server. Needless to say when i paid my biller I tipped bot only my server but her too for putting up with them with a smile. She was delightful. A group of us went to dinner here at 6PM on Saturday evening, May 5, 2018. The waitress was fantastic, but I cannot say the same about the manager. Here is the conversation with the manager as we were leaving. Manager: How was your meal? Me: Our waitress was fantastic, but the potato chips were stale. Manager: Oh, that's because we make a huge batch in the morning and by this time of the day they are stale. Me: Then you shouldn't serve them. This spot was suggested by a friend and the one word to describe the food is GOODT!!! It is a cute kinda small restaurant in a nice shopping center. Luckily we did not have to wait to be seated. My husband had the Maryland Omelet. He stated that it was seasoned well and very delicious. The hashbrowns (potatoes) were delicious also. I was trying to get chicken and pancakes versus chicken and waffles. I asked was that substitute an option and the waitress said yes but when I got the check I noticed it was not a substitute and every item was seperate. Always a favorite but we hadn't been in a while, so thought we'd give it a try for lunch on a Saturday. The menu has changed and our usual favorites are no longer there, so we went with pizza and a burger (safe). Glad we did! Our wonderful server Toya asked if I want the burger "pink or brown" - the pink burger came out perfect. Super flavorful and juicy. The brioche buns are soft and yummy. I was a huge fan of the shoestring fries they used to serve and was a little disappointed they are no longer on the menu, but the natural cut fries they now serve were really good. The portion was "just right" lighted salted and not over or under fried. The pizza was a nice surprise. My hubby is a pizza snob and he loved it! Thin crust, not to crispy. "Oh, they don't have orange marmalade". This is my 81 year old father's lament every single time we have eaten at Baker's Crust over the last, oh, 7 years or so. My parents are regulars here, and whenever I'm visiting Norfolk we make at least one visit for breakfast. The food, atmosphere, and especially the service are top notch. My parents have their special servers, who take the time to ask whether my mother is in the mood for "fruit or hash browns today?" We went to breakfast here yesterday, arriving at about 10:30, later than our normal time, or "Before the Protestants get out of church" as my dad would say. It was still easy to get a table for 3 because the weather was nice enough for people to sit outside. I always order the same thing: Baker's Breakfast - 2 eggs over medium, bacon, rye toast and fruit. My father does, too, but his eggs are over hard with wheat toast. The eggs always arrive cooked perfectly, the fruit is usually just so-so, the bacon is thin and crispy, almost like prosciutto, and the toast is perfectly crisp like I like it. My mom changes it up between yogurt and granola or one of the omelets. Yesterday it was The Maryland, with lump crab meat, which my mother said she "didn't get much of". I am not sure why we've never come here for anything other than breakfast because they have wood-fired pizza, tons of sandwiches and other entrees, and I can only guess that they are top-notch, based on the breakfast quality. The restaurant has an in-house bakery and a pastry case showcasing head-sized danish, croissant, cookies and "cheesecake on a stick". The restaurant itself is light and bright, with pleasant wicker-like seating with arms on the 4 top tables, and lots of rooms for large groups with long booths lining one side of the space. The prices are reasonable enough for the quality of food. Breakfast with coffee will run about $10 per person. I highly recommend this place. Was in the area and have eaten at other locations before. They maintain the high standard of quality that is expected. Service is friendly and quick. Our server, Meredith, was very attentive to our needs such as drinks and quality of food. Everything on the menu sounded great and ended up deciding on the pork belly benedict and the short rib burrito. Pork belly benedict using sweet potato biscuits was very tasty. There probably could have been a little more pork on it, but it was adequate enough. The burrito was very stuffed and ended up saving half for later. Topped it off with a skillet cookie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Definitely a spot to eat at when in the area! read more

After a dozen visits I have yet to be disappointed. Baker's Crust is a great little eatery over in Ghent that I tried out on a whim when I saw they had a patio and wanted to grab some lunch with my dog. (They are dog friendly, just bring your own bowl). I found the service to be good, the food ranging from great to pretty good, and the price to be a touch high. But we often use the military discount, or coupons we find so this hasn't been a problem. The portions are great, they are super friendly, and the menu is extensive so every time I come I check out something new. I have yet to be let down. This has become my Sunday morning chill place. My friends and I enjoy the ambience. It's always busy and lively. We have met so many great people there. The food is always good and a good drink with a meal is a plus. We do breakfast even though sometimes its close to noon time. My favorite is the Jamaican French Toast!! It has flambayed (I don't think I spelled that right.) bananas in spiced rum and coconut flavor. It is s so so delicious. I also love the chicken and waffles. It's a Belgian waffle with fried chicken tenders and warm maple syrup. It's always good. My friend loved the blueberry and lemon curd flapjacks. There are other breakfast choices. Its not all about breakfast though. There are great lunch and dinner choices. I really enjoyed the Shanghai Tuna. It had fresh greens and a mix of pickled onions, cucumbers and other tasty veggies and fruit. My drink is the blood orange mimosa.....which I don't drink until after 12 noon ;). I enjoy Bakers Crust and will only come to this one when I'm in need of a house burger, or some crepes, maybe a pineapple sangria, yum! I went to the location opened in Ashburn only for them to tell me they do not have a bakery side like the Norfolk location- fail! The flavor is on spot here, I hope they take some of the cooks from this location to the Ashburn one to show them the ropes! The pizza crust here is cooked to perfection! Pros- you'll always find seating or be seated within 15 minutes. Cons- Nothing so far! read more

The service was quick and friendly even though they were far busier than I expected. I would say that I wish they weren't tucked away like they are but they'd probably be busier if they weren't. To start I had the Caprese Bruschetta which was wonderful. The Balsamic reduction was the perfect complement to the bread and topping. My friend had the kickin' crab chowder which like its name implies had a good spice. We spilt a pizza and we were glad we did. The pizzas come in one size and they imply it's for one but easily feeds two. I especially enjoy the brick oven that is visible from the dining room. This is for a 1 time visit, during a 2 day trip down in the Norfolk area. This bakery was within walking distance to where my girl friends and I had lunch. We went purely for dessert and coffee after lunch, so I cannot speak for the food menu. The service was great~! It wasn't that crowded since we went after the lunch rush. We ordered an iced latte, the ice cream sundae, and a blueberry cake (pictures)...Everything was yummy! The interior design was cute and spacious, and we stayed awhile just talking (the waiter was really nice and was on top of things). Tip: I hope to come again (if ever in Norfolk) to try other things on their menu. PS: Their dessert menu is a separate menu, so we asked for it when we got seated. Its been a while since the last time I've visited this place. In fact, I've been here a couple of times for lunch but never tried the breakfast menu. I'm fan of Baker Crust because everything is freshly made. The pastry are my big turn on, the sweets are visually stunning and also taste absolutely divine. I enjoyed coming here, this is probably one of my favourite places in the area. The staff is very professional and dedicated to their job. I also have to commend the politeness and friendly attitude of the staff. The positive vibes of the entire restaurant is infectious. I love the homey spirit and welcoming atmosphere. This is my first time to come here for breakfast. Just as I thought , everything was perfectly fine. My heart was filled of joy as well my tummy. For today's visit, I ordered the Bacon, eggs and wafflewich served with house fries. Thought everything was delicious, the waffle alone was soft and dense. I also like the house fries, it was crisp and flavorful. Overall, it was a fantastic breakfast.
