I come here too much because of it's proximity to my job and my proclivity for being juuusst on time. I duck in here to grab a coffee and a pastry about once a week, although lately I've made a point to leave earlier so I can walk down the street to the other coffee shop. To its credit Bakeri is super duper cute; the decor and the jumpsuits that the staff wear makes me feel like I'm walking into a french patisserie dreamt and designed in Sweetest, Kitchiest Middle America. However, the prices are a little too high for what you're getting (the portions are small and everything is just whelming- not under or over). The croissants are miniature but are still sold for $4, the time it takes to assemble an open face sandwich during a slow time is obscene, and while several employees are very sweet, the number of times I've been confronted with a,"you're wasting my time" attitude is upsetting. The line is cramped from having a long table in the middle of the space- while you're trying to figure out if you're next to order you've usually got your ass in the face of a young mother trying to handle a squalling baby, or getting way to close to a group of people trying to squeeze past you to the door . God forbid you've got anything larger than a wallet on you- you will be in the way. Also, $10 card minimum, which is very annoying for a place that sells coffee and pastries. My breakfast of a scone and a coffee shouldn't exceed $10 and we live in an increasingly cashless society. This isn't an old school place, their POS is an iPad, they should take my friggin card. I am avoiding this place in the future because I leave in a worse attitude than when I went in nearly every time. read more

I generally don't like overpriced places, but this location of Bakeri does have really good sourdough bread, which I'm willing to pay $7 for. Their pastries are hit-or-miss, and generally very expensive. The focaccia is really good, especially the mushroom one, as well as the various quiches. The coffee is consistently amazing, and their espresso is served in a gigantic bowl, so you definitely get your money's worth. So even though Bakeri is terribly pricy, you can find some baked goods there that are worth the high price. As for the service, I'm surprised at all the negative reviews. I live literally five houses away from Bakeri and I go here often, whether its just to pick up some bread or to drink a cup of coffee. I have never had an unpleasant experience with any of the girls that work there. On the contrary, they are usually very sweet and acommodating. Maybe they're nicer once they get used to you? Either way, don't waste money on the pastries, but get a nice loaf of sourdough bread and a large latte. read more

The only thing not to love about Bakeri is that everyone in the area seems to love Bakeri, making seats in this quaint little cafe precious real estate (at least during prime brunch hours). They bake unique pastries in house, including things like blood orange olive oil cake, cinnamon buns, and raspberry lemon cake. My boyfriend swears they're all superb, but I tried their lox on a sourdough bagel with radish-this was so bright and delicious, I'll definitely be back for it. Let me just start off by saying the food here is wonderful. Honestly, the best cinnamon roll I've had in a LONG time. The ambiance is great, too. Whoever decorated this place, kudos to you! With all that said... service? Not so great. Borderline deal breaker for whether I would come back. Waited in line to order and they wouldn't let us pay until after we ate. So we had to wait in line all over again just to close out our tabs. We received our iced coffees with no straws or means to stir them with and a bottle of water with no cup to drink it out of. I have been going to Bakeri since moving to Greenpoint 4 years ago. I am a pretty consistent customer. Unfortunately, this past weekend I experienced what can be described as a micro-agression with one of the young staff members. She looked peeved when I reached the counter and responded with such a nasty tone that I wondered if I'd offended her previously or God forbid not leave enough of a tip for her placing a baguette on the counter. Bakeri goods are wonderful and expensive. They need not come with nasty attitudes or customer bias. I am glad my girlfriend who was visiting witnessed this and asked if I knew her from before. As soon as the guy behind me showed up she greeted him in such a sunny manner that I had to pause and wonder. Was it his clothes or how he spoke? Hmm...Did he look like a decent tipper or was he young enough. So tired of this nonsense service from rude kids who want tips for showing of tattoos and practicing their language skills with kitchen staff. I'm not a huge fan of the cookies and found both the cardamom chocolate chip and the lavender shortbread to be unremarkable. But the scones are divine - crumbly, generous, and not too sweet - and I never really understood brioche until sampling one at Bakeri's communal table one cold winter's day. While visiting Brooklyn I stopped in here on the recommendation of the person I was staying with. My only regret is that I waited until the last day of my trip rather than the first. This is some of the best pastry you're going to find, I don't care what kind of snobby Brooklyn hipster you fancy yourself to be. I had a savory tart with carrots and kale and feta that was some of the best food I've ever put in my mouth. And because it was my last day in town I also indulged in the chocolate mini croissants. Also amazing. I noticed a few reviewers complaining of the cost. Speaking as a tourist I did not find the prices to be out of line, seemed competitive to me. I am a baguette fanatic, and this bakery makes the best baguettes in the city bar none. They also have excellent pastry and sandwiches. the baguette itself is worth visiting Bakeri. get it early in the morning when it's fresh - with a healthy dose of butter, it is the perfect breakfast. The gluten-free blueberry muffin is also a tasty option for gluten-free folks. The lemon cake is also good - not overly lemony but very light. The croissants were small and expensive (tiny, about 2 bites and about $3 each!) - they were very tender, but wasn't the best I've had - lacked flakiness and taste. The pinwheel chocolate danish was a little burnt tasting, wasn't the best. It's a really cute place - looks like a converted car mechanic garage. Go for the baguette. read more

I got a savory pastry to go and the bread part was pretty good, apart from the cheese and kale in it being cold. I had asked the girl at the counter if it could be warmed up before she gave it to me and she said no and sulked... It's a bakeri, I KNOW they have ovens. It would be useful if they could at least have the option of warming up their stuff especially since it's freezing out and cold wet kale and cheese don't taste great. I love this place. Every time I come to Bakeri I am greeted with the smells of a million delicious items just waiting to be enjoyed by a customer like myself. The chai tea is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy and I never hesitate to order that as soon as I walk in. I could rave about the numerous items that I have had and how delicious they are, but I think one must just enjoy the taste and see it for themselves. The menu is wonderful but so are the PEOPLE. Most of the time I come in a cool chick named Megan helps me out, she is wonderful! Ask for her she makes a mean chai tea and always presents it with a smiley smile. read more

Been coming here for years, and my wife and I absolutely love the food (Some of the best pastries in NY without doubt), but my gosh, they have some of the rudest staff I've ever dealt with. Some are nice and understand the basics of customer service, but there are a couple members of the staff who treat us with such disdain, it's shocking. They virtually never say hello or even feign to act pleasant; they look at you like you're putting them out simply for asking them to do their job. Again, food is stellar, but some members of the staff could use reminders about customer service and general social interaction. I hope the manager can address this issue soon, because it's such a bummer to be treated like garbage when all you want is a nice cinnamon roll and a smile! read more

Short version: Due to the extremely rude employees and terrible customer service, I would advise everyone to not waste their time here and go to Ovenly instead - they're an amazing bakery that's a few blocks away at 31 Greenpoint Ave. Longer version: The girl behind the counter (huge clear plastic glasses, Eastern European-sounding accent) was really curt and rude during our interaction and also seemed somewhat socially inept, but I brushed it off as another sad unmotivated person working in the service industry - whatever. But later - I didn't have cash on me, and there is a minimum requirement for cards, which I didn't know about until after I ate and went to pay. I asked the girl if she could just charge me a $1 fee or something and make an exception for me this one time, and she rolled her eyes and said, "Uh, yeah, we don't know how to do that. Can't you just go to an ATM?" So I went on my phone to look for the closest Chase ATM, and while I was doing that, the other employee talked to someone who I guess was her manager, and then she came over to me and said, "Fine, we'll just do it on the card. But just letting you know, this isn't our rule, and because we're doing this now we're going to get reprimanded by our boss." ...huh? Any normal person would have said something like "We're happy to accommodate you and make an exception this one time, but in the future, please remember that we have a $10 minimum for cards." I would have said "Thank you for being understanding" and tipped them a few extra dollars as a gesture of thanks. As I was walking out she rudely and sarcastically yelled out, "HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY!" What exactly is the point of saying that? How petty and immature can you get? I was just really speechless and almost laughed at how ridiculous the situation was. Too bad, because the place is cute and the pastry I had was decent. Next time I'll be going to Ovenly like I usually do - their pastries are much better and the people who work there are nice, friendly, decent human beings and don't hate their jobs. read more

I live on the same block as Bakeri and go very frequently, but have developed a love hate relationship with this place. Their baked goods and food are undeniably delicious, but the service makes it difficult to keep coming back. Recently I was served a smoothie with a rubber band in it that I discovered when I sucked it up through the straw. I've also waited inordinate amounts of time when it was totally quiet in there to later find out that my order had been completely "lost" with only the explanation that "sometimes that happens." The disorganization and lack of customer service is just about enough to negate the beautiful space and good food. But baguettes! sigh. read more

Problems: 1) the place stinks of some sort of disinfectant cleaner, they should use something without such a pungent smell; 2) the taste of the coffee used in the espresso machine is really not good: it's acidic.
