This BF is located in a strip mall. The parking lot gets crowded due to the many high traffic businesses in the mall, but you can usually find a parking even at peak hours. This BF store is really clean. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The food is just ok. Rubio's, Habanero Grill, and other local restaurants have better quality food than BF for the same menu items. Their fried wahoo or fish taco is ok, but not as good as elsewhere. It is pretty battered and fried and the wahoo is not as good as the fish used elsewhere. The veggie flavor/sauce is a little sour and not as good as elsewhere. Their chicken taquitos were just ok. Their guacamole was very good and super fresh. The chips were ok and you get a small amount with your food. There is a key to the toilet that you need to get from the front to use it. The sodas are not calibrated properly and are bitter due to too much carbonation and not enough syrup. Overall, 3-4 stars is about right for the combination of excellent service coupled with just ok food. We would gone back here, but it would not be our first choice for the foods we mentioned as they are better elsewhere. read more

It had been years since our last visit, but a BOGO burrito coupon in the mail was the perfect reminder that they're still around, and still serving up the same familiar flavors we used to enjoy. On my way home one evening, I picked up a Baja shrimp burrito and an Ultimo chicken burrito, and both were tasty with that signature grilled exterior that adds just the right texture. The food brought back a nice wave of nostalgia, and price-wise, it's on par with Chipotle, though the coupon definitely made it sweeter. Parking was a breeze with the large lot shared lot with Vons. My only complaint is that the salsa containers are too small; you'll need several just to get through one burrito and the complimentary chips. read more

National Burrito Day Bust! The cashier offered a BOGO deal for Burrito Day but refused to provide a discount after I ordered because I wasn't registered in their computer system. Alas, the self serve salsa bar is a victim of the pandemic and still not available as of 11/2021. Nonetheless, Baja Fresh continues to be one of my guilty pleasures. Menu had plenty to choose from -- for those meat eaters to those who are plant based as they have the Impossible meat as an option. Stopped by as I was in the area for work. You walk up and order (love counter style) then they call your number and you pick up. I opted for a bowl as a lighter option along with a churro because why not, I ran this morning . The bowl was pretty good, my only issue was it is definitely rice heavy and less protein. Oh and roasted veggies = lots of peppers and onions. Not a pepper person, but wasn't an issue to pick them out, so just a heads up, they pepper happy! Churro was great as well! They currently have indoor and outdoor seating. More indoor seating than outdoor, but it is available. It wasn't too busy when I went. Lastly, the staff was very nice. This one stars simply due to the service. I go in to place an order and I complete the entire order and the person behind the counter tells me I can go ahead and put in my credit card and then proceeds to ask me if I have cash. I told him at that point I did not have cash and he said there was something wrong with my credit card so I proceeded to try another credit card and then he said there were something wrong with that credit card so I tried the third one then he proceeded to say oh actually the machines broken and they're only excepting cash. I don't know if anyone else likes completely wasting their time but it should be the first thing that someone says to you when you go into buy something if they can't except anything other than cash. Train your staff better to have etiquette with customers and communicate rather than having a terrible experience that I will never return to order food again due to lack of being able to say "we only accept cash". I want to start this review off by saying we ordered on Cinco De Mayo online and for takeaway during this Covid-19 situation and the star ratings are for food quality ONLY not service. I will start off by saying it was absolutely crazy in the restaurant during dinner time (and I definitely did not expect it). We placed an order online at around 6:30 and their online platform quoted us a 7:10 pick up time. We arrived just a little late because there is always some variance in online estimated times. I was absolutely floored by what was going on at this Baja location. There were more than 10 people waiting around inside the store and more waiting outside. Upon going inside, NO ONE was social distancing and people were all desperate to get their food. The phones were ringing continuously and the restaurant was definitely understaffed. We waited for 30 minutes and nothing came out--they were on order 21 and we were order 59. Thankfully, we live close by so we went home thinking to stop by an hour later. We went back to the restaurant at 9pm and they were just finishing packing up our meal--as in we saw them putting the tortilla on griddle and we saw them wrapping it up 2 hours past our quoted pick-up time which is absolutely crazy. Now, I totally forgive them because they were understaffed and it was Cinco De Mayo, but I was just a bit disappointed. When we got home, we didn't get any of the salsa we had asked for and I guess they ran our of guacamole because our nachos were really bare--and they overcompensated by putting a large glob of sour cream on top. It was definitely NOT worth the 10+ dollars we paid for. The burritos were a little plain for my taste and specifically, the diablo burrito was not spicy at all!! I totally understand and appreciate their efforts due to the craziness they experienced on the 5th, but I wish they would have addressed it better especially the amount of people in that tiny location. Again, 3 stars for the food ONLY and I guess the service was just because of the situation we are in so I'm not going to ding them for that. This review is for two separate takeout orders from Baja Fresh. The first order was on August 10, 2020 and the second order was on August 17, 2020. For both orders my wife ordered the Baja bowl with Roasted veggies. Both times the bowl was above average. The second time she ordered the bowl she requested it with light on the rice and heavy on the pinto beans. My wife was very pleased with how they handled this substitution/modification. On August 10, I ordered the Baja Ensalada with Chicken and added an extra order of shrimp, with Chili Lime dressing on the side. See the attached picture, which was taken at my home. Presentation, for a takeout order was awesome and the taste was yummy - it was as good as it looks. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, not over cooked rubbery things like you get at other fast food restaurants. On August 17, I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Chile Lime Salad and added an extra order of chicken, with the Chili Lime dressing on the side. See the attached picture, which was taken at my home. Again, presentation, for a takeout order was awesome. And this salad was even better than the one I had on the 10th. Again, the shrimp were perfectly cooked. On a side note, I'm not sure what the other yelpers are seeing, but both times, as well as other visits that I am not mentioning in these two reviews, All the workers ARE wearing masks. They were courteous and professional. They appear to be taking all the COVID precautions seriously. As far as the cockroaches comment, no sign of them. The restaurant was clean and well maintained and did not have any sign of cockroaches. I have also never found hair in my food as some other yelper mentioned for this Baja Fresh store. Both takeout orders were on a Monday at approximately 7:30 pm. We will continue to patronize this Baja Fresh Store during these challenging times. read more

Another thing I enjoy about the establishment is their fresh salsa bar which has a large variety. This location is alway very clean and the employees are extremely kind and courteous. Woohoo, free Birthday Burrito (with a purchase of a large drink that comes in a reusable cup)! Even more fabulous, I was able to have my Birthday Burrito for lunch the next day, especially, since my birthday also happens to be during the same week as DineLA (more dinner birthdays), yasss!!! During my last shopping trip to Ralphs, I remembered that there was a Baja Fresh location there, and so I decided to go there instead of my usual location in Monrovia. Also, since it was heavily raining and coming home from work in DTLA, I didn't want to drive too far either. Parking: They share the huge, free parking lot with Ralphs and other surrounding stores. Once I got inside, I scanned their wall menu for which type of burrito style I wanted while another customer was ordering her food. For my Birthday Burrito, I went with Pork Carnitas - Baja style ($7.99 Value). Originally, I picked steak for my protein, but sadly, steak is not included in the birthday deal, bummer! Nonetheless, my Birthday Burrito was still pretty good, especially, the next day when I ate it for lunch at work. Along with the free Birthday Burrito, I also had to purchase a ($3.16 grand total) large drink, which comes in a reusable cup, noice! (My Mom reminded me not to toss the cup away since she wanted it afterwards, hehe!). The pork carnitas itself was tender, savory and a generous portion inside too! Every bite of my burrito was dripping with the pork carnitas' au juices and so I ended up eating the burrito with a fork and knife. I would have considered toasting the burrito instead of microwaving it, however, one of my coworkers burnt their food (causing a smoky, fire hazard sensation within our floor) and so our oven toaster privileges got taken away, lol! As for the Baja style, it consisted of melted Jack cheese with fresh guacamole and mild pico de gallo wrapped in a grilled flour tortilla, which tasted fresh, healthy and delicious! My Birthday Burrito also came with a small bag of chips that I ate last night. The chips were fresh and crispy. Service: Santiago was the cashier, who handled my order and transaction. He was nice in the beginning but got a little annoyed when I made the mistake picking steak. I didn't notice that tiny arse, little print about steak not being included, sheesh! However, he did lighten up after my burrito was ready for pickup, thanked me for coming and said to me nicely "Have a nice day." Ambience and Décor: The restaurant is pretty large and spacious. You can either sit in the front or in the back. The soda fountain and salsa stations were clean and well-maintained. They did have some roofing leaks around the restaurant but made sure to put up yellow signs around the areas to prevent customers from getting hurt. Service good, but new overpricing is lousy. Steak burrito ultimo with tax was $16.09!!! It was raised almost $5 since the last time I was here about 7 months ago. They didn't add more food. It was the same exact burrito size as before, and if anything, they had less meat in it and more rice. There's dozens of fantastic Mexican family owned restaurants here, that make a better burrito for less money. Great customer service! I got the impossible burrito subbed pico de gallo for chopped tomatoes because onions are not my thing and they were able to make it! The burrito is huge!!! And so flavorful! I got the 3 taco combo today... I was super hungry. I had the fish. Crispy wahoo for me, No flame grilled fish action for me this time. I asked for rice and salad instead of beans. The fish was good. It was more than decent. Nice crunch to the batter covered fish. Flour tortillas are my preference and I like that you can choose between corn and flour. The rice was very tasty. I liked it a lot... The small side salad was good especially with the cilantro ranch dressing. I usually cannot stand any cilantro in an shape or presence but a small hint in dressing form was pretty good. Good meal. It's nice that you can call in your order and have it ready for pickup. Baja rarely disappoints. But i didnt like the type of paper plates these meals come in. They get real soggy quickly especially with the salad dressing and the salsa mixing all about. And for a big order such as ours, we had 8 people all together order meals.... only 2 bags of chips?? Let's be clear: despite my well-established Gringosity, I've traveled--and eaten-- extensively in Baja California. And in all those places, the food only resembles Baja Fresh's fare by accident at best. No pulpos fritos or Huachinango at Fresh... Just fast food wearing a Mexican food costume. But that said, Baja Fresh makes a burrito you can eat. The Baja burrito is reminiscent of a San Diego carne asada. The salsas are all pretty salty and weak when it comes to spice. Even the pickles jalapeños are a joke. But the kids can handle it, and since they usually do bean and cheese burritos, it's hard to screw that up. A little pricy for a unique South of the Bordrt experience, really. But overall, it gets the job done when you're in a hurry and just need to coat your stomach with salty tomato sauce and hunks of meat. read more
