Ever since Sweden, I'm always on the lookout for the ultimate Kanelbullar (cinnamon roll) which is not like the American version. For a small shop, there was a wide selection of Swedish items (see photos). For my fika, I ordered a Kanelbullar and a slice of Princess Torte (cake). Fabulous pastries. I think we got eight different pastries from this place and a lot of them had ground almonds which I adore. Everything was really good, including the cardamom bun, the fruit pastry, and all of the almond pastries. The staff were really lovely and the space is small, but unique and beautifully decorated. Bageriet is a cute Swedish bakery on Rose Street in the SoHo area of London that is well known for their cinnamon sweet rolls. We arrived at the bakery just as they were about to open. The staff was very kind, but informed us that a lot of the pastries were not ready yet. We waited a bit until they were finished and happily ordered a chocolate danish and cinnamon roll. The chocolate danish was okay. It did not taste particularly fresh and no surprise flavors. It's a basic chocolate and custard sweetness wrapped in a flaky pastry. I would give it a 7/10. However, the cinnamon roll was a standout! One of the best I have had in London. The filling had a great cinnamon sweetness and the top was speckled with condensed confectionery sugar. I would gladly get this pastry again (9/10). Overall, I loved this bakery and I was so glad to enjoy it in its cute outside seating. If you are in the area or traveling to London for a trip, I recommend you stop by. read more

Sensational bakery! We stopped in right as they opened and many items were making their way from the kitchen into the display cases. We ordered one of just about everything that made its way out when we were here. This is the coziest, sweetest, most yummy bakery. It was a chilly morning and Bageriet exemplifies hygge to a T. The candles, coffee, warm, plush surroundings are the absolute coziest. I could have stayed in here all morning, eating treat after treat but we had somewhere to be ;) so I had to wrap it up. This was such a small, cute, unassuming bakery tucked away in the busy streets of Covent Garden that I walked by it several times during my time in London without trying it out. On my last day however I finally caved -- and I'm so glad I did, because it turned out to be one of the best bakeries I tried during my time here There were so many beautiful rolls and pastries that I had no idea where to start, but the lady behind the counter was very sweet and described all the baked goods and noted the popular ones to help me figure out what to order. We landed on the kanelbullar / cinnamon roll (since that one seemed to be the most popular) and the sugar pretzel (that one just looked really amazing) and I was immediately in heaven when trying both of them. They're so unassuming but the cinnamon roll was so sticky and delicious and the sugar pretzel was so much fluffier than I was expecting. I visited here with one goal: a slice of Princess Cake, which is very difficult to find in America (outside of the little frozen version from Ikea). I've wanted to try it since I saw it on Great British Bake Off. This bakery is incredibly small--even with a map app, we had to loop around to find it tucked down an alley--and their few tables were occupied. We got the cake slice to go. I had a flat white which was very good and a Lussekatt (Saffron bun) which I think is available only in December. In Sweden they serve Lussekatt for St. Lucia (December 13th). Not to mention that the staff is Swedish and they are very nice and welcoming. I love Scandinavia so this place is a piece of heaven in London for me. read more

ALERT:: THIS IS A SWEDEN BAKERY SHOP. Location: another shopping circle, where I cannot recall its name. I found this rare bakery shop in a small valley. You have to really watch the sign and try to be focus so that you may end up here. Place is small, three tiny tables, I was quickly served and introduced by their crazy good looking bakeries. By the time I ordered their pieces and then sat down, I felt like this place is too tiny to be here for more than 20 mins. Food: I had their traditional cake (SORRY, I FORGOT THE NAME) It looks very much artificially unhealthy but it is surprisingly good. Tiny little cafe in a hidden alleyway. I discovered this place via yelp on my recent trip to London. The place is small, with 2 communal tables situated on the side of the cafe. I ordered their infamous princess cake and the barista situated me into a seat as if it was a dine-in cafe (kudos point!). The cake came quick and at first glance I thought it might be too heavy. However, the cream was much lighter than I thought and the marzipan exterior added a different texture to the soft cake that I appreciated. They had a bunch of other pastries that looked equally delicious. However, my one stomach was unable to try all of them. Would I come here again? Of course; I would like to try the other pastries as well. I probably won't eat the princess cake again (even though it's good) since I've had better. read more

I walked out of Stanfords & the most amazing smell assailed my nose. It was like fresh wine was being mulled, it filled the street and it only served to make me extremely hungry. I had bookmarked Bageriet on Yelp, quite some time ago and since it looked like it was in the area, I decided to head there for a coffee. (Its in the tiny lane running along Stanfords) Imagine my surprise when the aroma got stronger as I got closer to this cafe. I had to ask & the lovely lady manning the counter said that it was the smell of the ginger & spice cookies baking in their basement kitchen. The cafe is really tiny, just enough seating space for around 6 people (tight fit) and a tiny table for 2 outside, but it was raining, so I just picked up a bunch of stuff to bring home. On heavy recommendation, I tried the Princess Cake - this was layers of sponge with custard and raspberry jam and a marzipan/fondant like icing. It was so pretty & colourful & I loved the taste, but the Mr. wasn't too keen on it. The Mazarin / Notkongress & Almond Tart were a amazing. My outstanding favourite of all the things I picked up on this trip were the hazelnut tarts. But then, I do love hazelnuts. I also picked up 2 packs of tiny Swedish cookies - almost like shortbread, but Oh so good. They just melted in my mouth & ***Guilty Confession***, I finished a whole packet with a cup of tea. They brew fresh coffee on site, but I didn't try any on this occasion. They seemed to have 3-4 sandwiches at the counter, but 97% of what is sold in this store, is firmly in the "sweet" section. The cinnamon buns too are very highly recommended & they did look good, but I'm not a big fan of bread/buns. I'll take cake & cookies any day. The prices are slightly on the higher side, but the quality is very very good. Looks like I will be stopping here, each time I am in the vicinity. #YelpEveryDamnDay read more

I don't usually write about coffee shops because I don't really drink coffee. But Bageriet on Rose st is definitely worth an honorary mention. Bageriet is the tiniest coffee shop on a tiniest side street near Covent Garden. Depending on what you are familiar with, it's next to Peruvian restaurant called Lima or opposite Stanford, the map store. Their speciality is Scandinavian cakes. They usually have a few Danish pastries at the window, and have cakes and breads inside. There are two tables inside and one small round table and a pair of garden chairs. That's it. You can imagine it's very hard to find seats on weekend afternoon. The cakes here are just brilliant. When I have some free time on weekday, I like to sit on one of the seats and indulge myself with a cake or two. Don't judge me. They are really good. I even order a coffee occasionally as it seems to be what grown-up people do. read more

This is one of my favourite little hideaways, just a short walk from Covent Garden /Leicester Square tube station. There's limited seating so it's not always guaranteed to get a table - only able to seat approximately 8 people, or 9 if you squeeze in an extra chair! They have a great selection of little Swedish pastries - I especially love their cinnamon buns, so light and fluffy! Also loved their coconut macaroon...and their meringue shortbread... I haven't tried all of their pastries (yet!) but they all look really good! Their hot chocolate is also very rich and indulgent with a nice hint of cinnamon. They do a selection of the usual teas as well as some Scandinavian ones. It's very cosy inside, and the staff are also very friendly. Proof that the Yelp concept works - saw Nicola W post a review about this place, thought, WHAT? There's a Swedish bakery around the office? Went there and tried the Princess Cake and, SOLD! I read on Wikipedia that this Marzipan cake is called the Princess Cake because the 3 Swedish princesses love this cake. What a touching story. What is even better is that if you ordered this £3.80 slice of cake, you will then fall in love with the cake like Princes fall in love with Princesses! It's so light and fluffy inside. The marzipan doesn't over power you with sweetness (I am usually not a fan of marzipan!!!!) The shop is tiny but it's very cosy, and all the bakery products look amazing. There are maybe 2-3 tables to sit on so you have to be fast or be prepared to do a takeaway instead...I have introduced at least 5 people to this place already, I am sure I will hear good things about it from them! read more

Came here to collect the traditional Swedish Birthday cake for a friend, immidateately attacted by all their little Swedish cakes, pastry and cookies. So why not have a quick lunch here? Super small, like being in someone's 1-bedroom apartment kitchen. Some customers seem to think its a good idea to plonk themselves down with a book and block a seat in this little space for hours. I applaud the initiative to serve hard to find Swedish cake treats. The staff even speak Swedish, so I suppose they know what they are doing. They were sold out of Princess cake, which was the reason I came here. They have semlor, which is probably seasonal. This is a white bun with whipped cream in between top and bottom. Other cakes are mazarine, coconut top, cinnabun and other cakes that I've never seen in Sweden. The lack of seating will stop me from coming back. They have most of their cakes sitting out in the open next to where people line up to order. I imagine you are in for a germ coated cake here. Not even covered with plastic, or anything , makes me question the sanitation. read more

I honestly must leave a review for my top gastronomic experience in London. This diminutive jewel of a bakery entices like some Hansel and Gretel tale from the window, with an array of varied pastry creations. An oversized brioche like pretzel with a dusting of icing sugar like fallen snow. But my fantasy remains the danish with cardamom and Apple. Boy do I love danish. It ain't brioche and it ain't croissant. It's a bit rich and a bit soft. Just rich enough but less so than brioche to me. And to get that with cardamom which you basically never can get anywhere. Perfection. Great robust (horribly overused word in politics nowadays that deserves its own analysis why) filter coffee, a brewing method hard to find on this side of the ocean. Bummed about this three star, but just got off the phone with them to let them know they forgot to write "Happy Birthday" along with the name on the cake. Clearly asked for that greeting and was just told to write down the name for spell check. Man on the phone said, "next time if you email us you will have no mistakes." So..they expect drop in customers to email them as well so they don't make mistakes? Wouldn't admit it was their mistake. Ended up just pulling some passive aggressive stunt and blaming the customer when a simple sincere apology would have sufficed. Lousy. Pity because the girl in the front was friendly & helpful in store. Whoever was on the phone, for shame. Oh and I got an overwhelming dosage of powered sugar on the cake which I didn't ask for. Covers up the beautiful green color to the princess cake..which is kind of the whole point. I'll take my business elsewhere next time. read more

This place is amazing! We love the bakery and all of the bagels they have on here. We just ask that anyone who comes here please try the coffee. It's the best coffee in the entire world. I live in the USA- but coming here was the best thing that I have ever accomplished. I highly recommend their cream cheese as well. That moist silky sponge cake filled with custard and whip cream covered with delicious marzipan! Now I can get it here in London at Bageriet! Immediately I was drawn in by the array of goodies displayed at the front window. In particular, I spied what appeared to be a sugared donut/pretzel hybrid that I've never seen before that I wanted to try. The shop was small and we were disappointed there were no available seating as I would have liked to stay to order a coffee to "Fika". The pastries tasted as good as they looked. We ordered a few varieties including a slice of their Princess Cake that was delightful. I really dislike too sweet Marzipan and theirs was perfect. The wonderful and friendly staff welcomed and bagged everything nicely for us. This shop is tucked away in an alley away from the buzzy areas of Covent Garden. After visiting Stockholm and tasting their delicious fika pastries, I was keen on finding a good Swedish bakery in London, and Bageriet hit the spot! I tried the princess cake, cinnamon bun, and chocolate ball along with the largest cup of tea I've ever seen (it was practically a bowl!). All of the pastries were very tasty, but the princess cake definitely took the cake! The sponge cake was soft and light, with a layer of creme, raspberry jam, and of course, pastel green marzipan delivering the perfect amount of sweetness. (I'm drooling just thinking about it.) As other reviewers have mentioned, the seating is limited, but my friend and I were lucky enough get seats by the window. The servers were friendly and kindly recommended pastries and refilled the hot water. All in all, I love this place and plan on coming back to try the other pastries/biscuits. read more

I adore this spot. In part because of its very special location tucked away - ever so sneakily! - from the craziness of Covent Garden. The smell of cardamom in the air really got me; it's a smell from my childhood, and you don't smell it a lot. My eyes went directly to THE PRINCESS CAKE (watch this season of Great British Bake Off if you want insight on how challenging it is to get right) but I settled instead on some dark rye bread and one of the cinnamon buns. If you haven't had one before: Swedish cinnamon buns are a special treat. Cardamom in the dough, and then a sweetened cinnamon filling. Perhaps the most distinctive - and enjoyable - feature is the rock sugar traditionally scattered atop. Who doesn't like a little crunch with their baked goods? It's basically the cool adult version of a sprinkle. There's seating both in and outdoor, but it's limited. Coffee is strong. Service is lovely and attentive. Super fresh. I go to London for Christmas every year. Tried to get here in 2018, but they were closed for an extended vacation between Christmas and post-New Year. So always check their hours! It's not difficult to find with google maps, but Covent Garden has many labyrinthine wee streets! Very cosy inside, 2 small tables, seating 4 each. Be charming and someone will undoubtedly share with you. Now- to what's on offer! There's hot chocolate and it's lovely, BUT it's Christmas time so the HC is warmly spiced with cinnamon, cloves, and I believe a touch of nutmeg. If that doesn't appeal to you, have a coffee. The pastries are many. Lots of things with cardamom, this is a Swedish bakery, almonds, hazelnuts, and even a morning bun with some apple! That's delicious! Several things with a custard filling, my favorite being a palm sized shortbread heart that was generously filled with the not-too-sweet-nor-eggy-custard. Beautifully laminated doughs that crisply shattered when you took a bite. The staff that morning I was there was lovely and patient. Not everything is labeled, so, unless you're Swedish, or a regular, it's difficult to tell what's what. But, as I said, they patiently explained the various pastry to me. But as soon as I'd settle on a selection, someone would bring a few more freshly baked items from the kitchen! Oh well...good problem to have! Lol read more
