I'm still mourning the original Portobello Cafe that used to be located here - after all, it's where Johnny Depp and Kate Moss used to hang out ... It's seen various owners and incarnations since, and I must admit that Lisa's is the best one yet. The white floor and walls and Scandinavian inspiried furniture work extremely well and make the place look fresh and bright even on a typical grey London afternoon. I haven't had a chance to sample any of the food - apparently they are experts in crayfish parties - but the coffee was nice and strong and service super friendly. Lovely neighbourhood cafe.

In my two years of living in London, i hadn't been to Portobello Road if you can believe it. Long story short, i had a great time, love the vibe, the markets and of course Lisa's! Recently opened, this place is probably one of the best places i've stumbled across in London. The decor inside is just amazing with an obvious Nordic feel. I opted for Lisa's lemonade which was a freshly made grapefruit and lemon drink, so tasty and only £3. Although on this occasion i didn't eat, Lisa's does sell food and judging by my drink and the feisty girls who run the joint, the food is going to be good. I highly recommend venturing in if you're around the area. Great for a quiet drink, they also have a late licence and carry through to the evening with live music. Ahhh London living.

    Swedish meatballs much!

Was really planning to have dinner at Lisa's bec cos of the live music from Thu (i think) but weren't able to. We went for brunch on a Sat @1pm. Weren't a lot of people initially but was filled 35mins after we sat. We were seated inside with glass roof on a gloomy day, but was still v nice. The staff was very accomodating. My hubby even asked what's the recipefor the mashed potato and was welcomed. Try the Swedish meatballs, i just wasn't in favour of the cucumber (don't really prefer it anywhere!) but pegranate was quite a nice mix. Will def come back during the evening. Shame this is too far my place so it's easier traveling on daytime!

    Meatballs!!

FYI the woman at the front said that is common, which is odd because 1pm isn't exactly late for lunch, but anyhow, I ended up ordering the frikadeller (Danish meatballs, potatoes with blue cheese, and salad). It was quite delicious. The salad was especially good as I really loved the quality of the greens and the light dressing. It's a charming restaurant with lots of fun Danish items to purchase- especially if you love black licorice!

We only ever had meatball sandwiches on Saturdays, made from the week's leftovers ... here they come freshly made to order, with a side order of pickled beetroot and thinly sliced cucumber salad. Somehow Jacqueline and Kell managed to condense my childhood memories and re-package them in modern Scandi style. The biggest draw is the rye bread - the only thing expat Germans miss when they live abroad. No wonder the place was packed just one week since opening. Service is as understated and friendly as the surroundings, and I was very happy with the recommendation of mint & licoirice tea. I'll have to come back to sample some snaps ...

It's a solid bar with a wide selection of beers, including some unusual finds from places like Norway, and more locally, some experimental English brewers. Which is to say, don't come here if you're looking for the standard selection of ales and lagers, as there's no shortage of that at any other pub in Northampton. Instead, Bar Hygge features some local and not-so-local craft brews. Of course, there's no shortage of beer-of-the-moment IPAs, but they also have Westmalle Dubbel, a superb dark Belgian Trappist ale. I have two points of contention, though: dissimilar service and a limited food menu. Starting with food, it's tasty but limited. Think of sandwich tapas. I had three of them, and each was nicely prepared aesthetically, and also flavourful. You can also put together your own meat and cheese plate. Just be warned its a pretty niche menu so you may be disappointed. The other point is dissimilar service. On my first trip here, I was allowed to open a tab while sitting outside. However, on my second trip I was told I could only start a tab if I was sitting inside. It's not a big deal, but nice to be extended this courtesy on one day, and disappointing the next. Still, these two relatively minor points don't significantly detract from what is otherwise a refreshing and unique choice for a drink in Northampton, for which Royal and Derngate should be commended, their vision for Northampton continues to shape the surrounding areas into a great town center.
