Curious why the Curious Yellow Kafé currently rocks a glowing 5-star average? So was I. So I went. And now I get it. It's no larger than the average flat's bedroom, so don't expect to bring your laptop and sit for hours on end. But this small café knows exactly what it's doing and it proves to do it very, very well. Hand-pulled espresso, a bookshelf full of loose leaf tea to sniff at will and a lovely lunch selection offering Swedish delights like fresh feta and beetroot salad, cauliflower risotto, gravlx salas with mustard dill and mayo with rye bread and of course Sweden's infamous meatballs. Top that off with a cake or tart that's baked in house and you'll see exactly as I did why 5-stars is perfectly accurate. I mean, they cure their own fish. Ikea, who? This is the only Swedish-influenced lunch I need in my life!

I was slightly skeptical arriving at The Curious Yellow Cafe as it didn't look so great from the outside and also very small. What have I learnt? Don't judge a book by its cover! Firstly the staff were very warm and welcoming taking our order quickly without being intrusive. We both ordered the vegetarian breakfasts and banana shakes. Both were outstanding. I almost felt guilty as I watched one of the staff leave and return 5 minutes lately with fresh bananas especially for us. There was no 'sorry that's not available.' The breakfast was by far the best vegetarian breakfast I've had since being in London. All prepared and cooked right in front of our eyes in the small kitchen behind the counter so we could see what was going into our food. I must make a special mention to the scrambled eggs. I'm not quite sure what she did but they were delicious! Soft but not runny and sweet and savoury at the same time. Lastly even though it was only 10.30am we opted for a slice of chocolate beetroot cake as we had heard great things. Who could have ever guessed this could be such a great combo! The beetroot made the cake soft and moist but without overpowering the chocolate and the icing completed the masterpiece. This will definitely be on my most recommended cafes list!

Dear Curious Yellow Kafe, I could kiss you! There's no denying that our beloved Holloway Road can leave you wanting when it comes to cafes; sure, there's nowt wrong with a cup of builders and a fried egg sandwich, but every now and again, we need something a bit special. At Curious Yellow there are around 10 or more teas to choose from with interesting blends such as the Studio 54, Ceylon tea infused with champagne and strawberries and decorated with sun and corn flower! And an array of pastries and cakes to get you in the mood for some serious scoffage. I chose a Bombay Chai and a Chocolate Square. My god, how I still crave the gooey crunch of that chocolatey heaven. I admit, I haven't been for lunch yet, but the menu is positively inspired and the sandwiches look like they've been blessed by the buttcheeks of cherubs. Prices aren't bad at all, especially considering the excellent ingredients (Cold Cured wild salmon on organic rye from Kent!) The owner was working the day I visited and she was so friendly and welcoming. It has a chilled out atmosphere and not a hint of food snobbery or pretension! Lovely jubbly! A word of warning though, the cafe itself is very small, so get there early to avoid disappointment. Shun the chocolate squares at your peril.

I'm currently looking for a new place to live. One visit to the Curious Yellow Kafé on Holloway Road had me saying, 'I think I could be happy living in Lower Holloway.' That's right, folks. I'd consider moving from SW18 to N7 just so that I could be in close stomping distance to this glorious little café. The freshly homemade baked goods, the hand-pulled espresso drinks, the delicious tea blends -- these are all things that give this place top marks. Add to that the incredibly friendly business owner and obviously local regulars (a testament to any café's greatness), and it's head of the class. I spent a mere three hours in this tiny café space on Saturday, and I'm all the happier for it.

Eggs Benedict!! Poached to perfection and oozing out as I cut them!

Yes, yet another review of the best care in London, but I promise, I've new info to bring to the table, if you just read on... I found this place on Yelp and had been meaning to go for ages. Now, it's my guilty pleasure. I have fully incorporated it into my weekend ritual. Every Saturday, and in this case Sunday, I drag my drunk/hungover arse out of bed and go to my morning yoga class. After I sweating out the alcohol I make my way Curious Yellow Kafe. Before you arrive, accept the fact that you very well may need to sit outside. This place is cozy. Although it's in Hoxton/Shoreditch, it's located on a relatively quiet street. When the weather's nice, they leave the door open so you can still enjoy the tunes playing inside. The problem I have with the cafe is a big one- the food is SO good that it takes everything in my power not to lick the plate clean. How dare they make Eggs Benedict that good! I mean really, who do they think they are?! I can't control myself! I inhale them. Which takes me to my next point, the quality of the food is incredible!! I paid £7.50 for a smoked salmon salad, and there was at least £5 worth of smoked salmon on it. It's worth trying things that may be out of your comfort zone because everything here is good - including the coffee. Now for the best part: they're opening a deli two doors down!! It will be called Summer with Monika, opening in a couple weeks. Much bigger space and a larger seating area. Moving from Dublin last year was hard, London is so big! But now, I've found my place. I recognise the faces inside, and I know I'll always be taken care of here. Love you, CYK x x x

If you feel like you've been eating rich foods in London and just want some homey good food and a great coffee, definitely come here. The bagel with smoked salmon hit the spot! Flat white and americano were amazing. Very relaxing neighborhood spot.

So I've actually been to this many times before as it is my local! Each time the staff are really friendly, the food is delicious, the music playing is nice and easy to hold a conversation in. It's small inside but I've always been able to get a seat when I come and if it's busy there is a quaint churchyard across te street so there is always take-away. They have a delicious full English and I think the best bacon in London. I haven't yet tried the Scandinavian breakfast(weekends only) but I will if I ever get tired of the bacon bap! They have delicious looking cakes which they make on site. And they make ice coffee the way it should be made ( with crushed iced!) I can't wait t they all know me by name but it's only a matter of time because I get a bacon bap at least once a week!

English breakfast. Not your typical greasy soon version.

English breakfast. Not your typical greasy soon version. It's kinda a clean non greasy type which I don't know how I feel about. There was something a little bit amiss for me. My glass came out dirty so they changed it and the person sitting next to me put water in a glass and set it on the floor for her dog to drink from. That kinda affected my enjoyment of the place I guess. Staff are friendly though.

    Beetroot cake and Swedish Breafast

A tiny cafe offering scandinavian breakfasts, a great banana smoothie and so-so cake. The interior is a little run-down and dank but sweet. The food displayed is quite obviously home-made and presented very much so. The staff are nice and we ended up ordering a mocha chino, swedish breakfast as it's not something you see everyday, banana smoothie and chocolate beet cake. Service was quick and we got stuck in. The Swedish breakfast is something really easy to put together and was excellent. Essentially some pate, veg, Gravlax, bread/crackeds. I loved the bread. The salmon was supposed to be a raw salmon "Gravlax" but to me this just tasted like smoked salmon. My unrefined taste-buds perhaps. The cappuccino was too strong for me, not enough choc, but great quality coffee beans. The banana smoothie, Heaven. I was a little disappointed with the Choc beetroot cake. You couldn't really taste the beetroot, but I'll believe they were in there. So everything food wise was okay/good with nothing standout as I was expecting. It was a nice cafe in a nice location, but without a real reason to return unless this is your local.

    Bright and cheery interior!

Great little coffee shop and cafe in Hoxton! Generally, baked goods at coffee shops aren't anything to write home about, but I dove right in to the chocolate beet and blood orange cakes they had here. The service was friendly, and the coffee was good. What more can you ask for? It was a simple, unfussy joint and looks like just the place to hibernate with a book on a rainy day sometime soon...

    Mmm Mmmm Mmmm!

Wow! I've been searching East London for months attempting to recreate the perfect smoothie (I used to make circa '06, Barrio East comes close). FOUND! Whether your after a hangover cure or just attempting to fill your 5+ a day.. Get here! Fresh, fresh, succulent morsels of happiness! Get here for a sweet Veggie brunch including all the colours of the rainbow! Happiness on a plate! About to try the Beetroot choc cake.. Will let you know more soon!

    Rice and herb stuffed peppers.
    Daniel K.

It was just as great as the previous umpteen times I come here. My stuffed peppers were delicious and that chocolate beetroot cake is to die for. They do need to do something about that not locking bathroom door though. The wind makes it creak threateningly, moving slightly and you feel as if you are literally about to be caught with your pants down.

    Salmon Croissant (??!)
    François A.

That was okay. Not the best place I had lunch, but still good for England. I had the salmon croissant, and apparently in London this is what a croissant looks like. Allez au revoir.

Scandinavian Breakfast & Coffee. Very good.

I am so disappointed that I have only just learned about this wonderful cafe!! I travel to London…read moreperiodically for work. On my last visit, a coworker told me about this little gem, which is not far from Lloyd's. It was a freezing cold day, I didn't have a coat, but I still went on the journey to Konditor & Cook. They have such a huge variety of cakes, brownies, and other sweet treats, along with coffees and other beverages. I got the lemon cake, which came highly recommended - it was amazing! I also had a hot chocolate (I don't drink coffee often), but my coworker had a latte and it looked good. This shop is now on my regular rotation in London...it's always a great day when you have cake for lunch!

I always stop into Konditor & Cook on the back of the Gherkin for a little treat when I'm craving…read moresome good homemade food. I know they are typically known for their cakes but the lunches here give you quick access to homemade classic dishes. I usually get the enchilladas, chili con carne, fish pie (super good!) or one of the daily quiches. The menu changes daily and there is rarely a time I don't find something to drool over. If you go I highly recommend the Boston Brownie, Raspberry Chequerboard Cake and the Millionaire Shortbread from the bakery. My only issue: Take the mushrooms out of the Mac n Cheese! Seriously, who puts mushrooms in mac n cheese???
