Konditor & Cook is located just next to Borough Market, and the lady at the store front lured us in by offering us samples of their brownies. After that 1 bite of their brownie, we were HOOKED! That brownie was probably the best I've ever had in my life. The texture was ooey gooey fudge like with still a slight cakeiness to hold it together, big, high quality chocolate chunks, and not overly sweet. I still dream about that brownie to this day! I just wish they could expand this bakery to the USA because this place would win over the hearts of many! What's even cooler is that they sold their own cookbook with a lot of their recipes inside. This review is based on one cake and one cake only (because thats all I've eaten from here!)! For my graduation I got brought a chocolate layer cake from here. The chocolate Curly Wurly cake! Its really easy to order online (which we did) but my boyfriend also had to phone the 'cake hotline' for some adjustments and he found them to be very helpful. Its so easy - you choose your cake, decide on a message to ice on the cake and what decorations you want, decided on what colours you want these to be in then add glitter (or don't add glitter! But hey - who doesn't love glitter!?) Just to note - if its just a normal layer cake that you want they can normally make these with just one or two days notice, which I think is great because you never know when you might need cake! My boyfriend picked the cake up with no hassle and it was safety packed in a box with a gift card included. He said that the staff were lovely and were really efficient. So - the cake...was amazing! It looked amazing, it tasted amazing, and it still tasted amazing 3 days later! I love making cakes myself, but this is a really good choice for when you don't have the time to whip one up yourself. Though small there are a couple of seats where you can sit in if you choose to. I went to Konditor & Cook today for lunch. I got a rather 'chi-chi' juice, a christmas (turkey etc.) sandwich, and a rasberry and custard muffin. The juice, apple and elderflower, was rather nice. The sandwich was okay; it tasted 'real' in that the cranberry sauce was tart and the turkey was a little dry. However, the muffin was definitely the winner; light, crumbly, moist in bits. I mean yeah, there's women working there too but the heart stoppingly gorgeous man smiling at me from behind the counter was kinda distracting. Not for long though, have you seen the patisserie style cakes in this place? The previous reviewers sum it up much better, I guess the beautiful man probably wasn't working those days. Chocolate enrobed cakes, trufflles and creamy sins as far as the eye can see. Plus little bags of macaroons, meringues and sweet things wrapped up and ready for you to take away. They have little pieces of brownie on the counter for you to taste and you will be paralysed by the selection of cakes and frosted bakery goodnesses. As it was my birthday, I went back to K&C, my most favourite of bakeries, to get some treats for the office. The sales girl with the stunning blonde hair was incredibly helpful with describing each cake so I could make a selection for all tastes. She even persuaded me to add a couple of fruit based items which usually doesn't fly with my dessert choices (it's all about the chocolate...and carrot cake). I've got to say though, damn they were good. Carrot cake is always a winner, the seasonal special (no idea bout the name but I think it had apricots in it and was topped with a sweet fruity glaze with slivered almonds), and best of all the brownies. They literally melt in your mouth with rich deep chocolate flavoura and although I'm stuffed I want another. What the hell...it's my birthday! read more

I just moved around the corner of a Konditor & Cook and it is DANGEROUS. The displays are always really tempting and beautiful. They are quite generous with samples. There are always around 2-3 types of samples where they cut 'big-gish' chunks of cakes for you to try. Fresh sandwiches, salads, granolas, porridge in the morning and bircher muesli. Brownies are tops - my fave is the one with cranberries to cut down the sweetness. They have 'brownie bar' sometimes with specials (3 for 5 frommemory?). Original, with caramel, with cranberries. They should have a blondie brownie too. Anyway, I like going there for coffees (although it's hit and miss. The one in Borough Market is good but the waterloo one not so). Anyway, back to coffee. They have a loyalty system of buy 5 coffees get 1 free which is the best coffee deal I've seen anywhere! And no extra charge for soy and I am a soy fan. So, that's why I go. Oh and I like the muffins too - soy blueberry and spinach cheese with cream cheese centre. Oh and the millionaire shortbread is yum too. And the choc chip cookie. read more

Every time I am within a 30 minute walk from a K&C I make a detour and buy 3 brownies for a fiver. What a deal! And the quiche tarts are delightful: buttery, light, fluffy and delicious. And the pastas! Oh man, those are amazing too! I can happily become a vegetarian if I was served the food they serve here. No doubt. And you know what? They have great coffee as well. I walked already more than 10,000 steps and when I was passing by this stores wonderful windows I decided I earned a treat. This place makes deciding on something yummy very, very difficult. My eyes were bulging seconds after walking in the door. There are so many beautiful items to choice from you will be flabbergasted for more than a few minutes. I eventually decided to make it simple with a slice of apple tart and a hot coco. It was delightful. Before leaving I grabbed a few more small items to eat later that night. Since it was a good walk back to my room and I was site seeing, most of them didn't make it back. All I can say is you will be very happy with any choice you make. My mother and I visited Konditor this week for the first time and was very impressed by the quality of the food. I had a spinach muffin and a latte and she had a brownie and a mocha, both of which were superb quality. Service was exceptional, the staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating. There were two things however, that ended up being detrimental to our dining experience in no insignificant way. One was that there is no toilet for customers and, as my mother suffers from Crohn's disease this ended up being quite an embarrassing and uncomfortable experience for her. The other big thing was that for some reason the door was left open constantly. I do not know if this was maybe a mistake by the staff or if this was intentional but I cannot for the life of me understand why we had to dine whilst shivering in the middle of november. I had noticed that other diners had been bundled up too so surely we were not the only patrons who expressed a similar sentiment. I imagine that other potential customers who might be dining with family members who are vulnerable to cold weather such as children or the elderly could very well take their business elsewhere because of two seemingly inconsequential issues such as those mentioned above. In any case, the food and service were superb, I just think I might take my purchases to go next time. read more

Yummmm! A gorgeous little bakery tucked down a side street opposite Waterloo station. Great for takeaway lunches, they have a different hot lunch everyday - risotto, beef stew, chicken curry etc - filled baked potatoes, sandwiches, unusual fresh salads and pizza slices. If you have a sweet tooth you'll notice that the windows are packed with yummy treats. I'd recommend the Boston Brownies (I think that's what they're called) which are chocolate brownies with cherries. My only negative comment is that its almost a victim of it's own success. What a fantastic bakery! This is, without doubt, the best bakery in London! They sell their cakes by the slice and by the whole cake too - prices can be found on their website. The curly whirly cake is just amazing! They also sell a small amount of confectionary in this branch which is just outside Borough Market and well worth the detour. During the winter months they have a street vendor standing right outside the shop who sells hot chocolate. Now, it may not be the cheapest hot chocolate in the world, but it certainly is the best - think thick, sticky, hot drinking chocolate..simply amazing! read more
