Many people have heard of the legendary tale of the cronut across the pond but why travel that far when you can hop a short tube ride to East London to have the might crodough! Rinkoffs first came to my attention via work colleagues and once I tried their crodoughs I was hooked! They are located through a alley off the main road and this little gem is amazing! Their crodoughs are rich of texture, flavour and bite. My favourite is the classic raspberry but I have tried the Oreo, chocolate, Nutella and various other flavours. My tip is to find a few friends and cut them in pieces to be able to try as many flavours as possible, be warned they are high in sugar and will keep you full yet craving for more! I have not tried any of their other products however they always smell and look amazing. Worth popping in to try one if ever in the area. When looking for somewhere to try Cronuts in London, all the research pointed to Rinkoff's so the foodiest of my friends and I headed to the East London ghetto of Whitechapel to hunt it down. When you follow the Google maps instructions you are sure you're going in the wrong direction. "The best Cronuts in London can't possibly be down this shady looking alleyway", but trust me, it's worth the adventure. The bakery has been there for over 100 years and has developed a bit of a cult following. It is an honest, family bakery with a real homely feel. It feels pretty old-school and has very few bells and whistles, because all the effort is put into the food. So, the food. I've never been happier shovelling 1200+ calories per item into my face. I have nothing to compare the Cronuts to, because they are like nothing I've had elsewhere, but they are in my opinion, quite spectacular. I've now been back a few times to try the new flavours, and my friends Amy & Dave come down from Birmingham to sample the delights with me. Well worth the trip! read more

What a lovely little bakery! Its been around a long long time which is a testament to how good it is. Of course, being the silly London foodie I am, I came for the cronuts - or crodoughs as they call them (cronut is actually a trademarked name now so you'll only see them called that at Dominique Ansel Bakery!). I've come at the end of the day a couple times and there's always been a good selection left, so don't you worry your pretty faces about waking up at an ungodly hour in the morning to pick up one of these babies, unless you're really into it being fresh out of the fryer. I've now tried many of the crodoughs here, and oh god are they good. Some of them can be quite heavy - the heaviest one I've had being an Oreo cheesecake one which was ridiculous. I don't necessarily recommend that one, but all the other ones have been heavenly! The lemon drizzle one was particularly good. And for how huge they are they're really reasonably priced, £3 or less each. I definitely wanna go back for their smoked salmon and bagels and other assorted treats, and of course I'll definitely be back for the crodough. read more

Getting my Cronut or - NOT!!! :( :( :( So finally made it to Rinkoffs on the last day of my London visit, and really wished had come earlier. Purchased challa bread, olive bread, wholemeal sourdough bread, a cheesecake, unlocked the free Danish offer (yay! Thanks Yelp) and based on the server's recommendation - took the raisin Danish and it was awesomely delicious- wish had ordered more! The cheesecake too tasted fab, with a great fresh creamy taste and just the right note of sweetness. I had also ordered a pistachio and salted caramel Cronut (based on other Yelp recommendations but they suddenly got busy and another server started helping me and it wasn't till I was on the Eurostar that I realized my Cronut had been left behind :( I was so sad all the way back to Brussels and guess will just have to plan another trip to London and come back! read more

This bakery is really quite hidden, you have to be a local to really know it, or discover it through Yelp and the likes. I have lived in the area for so many years, didn't even realise there was a bakery off Whitechapel road, until I started looking for new brunch cafes and cronuts. But I guess that is the allure of it and selling the non traditional white slice bread, has made this bakery cafe a must seek. The service was friendly and quick, and the display of the cakes and breads and general look of the shop was warm and welcoming and cosy. Much thought has been put into this cafe. Certainly feels family run. There is indoor seating for two, but more seats outdoors. Tried the cronut and bagel and to be honest I have tasted better, not to say it is bad at all. But to me, its like a slight better version of Percy Ingle's and a deli cafe, a modern twist to an old tradition. I can tell the method in making these pastries in very similar. As an eastend boy, I grew up eating at these local bakers, and in an instant, it reminded me of that. Thicker and denser bread, sweet centres and blandish, dryish outer bread. Rinkoff is a little gem tucked in among council housing! It is a bit off the beaten path and I would have never known it was here without literally being directed to it by my London Walks book! It has an interesting history and has been around for a LONG time. I have a few complaints about Rinkoff. First off, their customer service is a bit weird. They took our order and then my father-in-law left me to pay and get some treats. They ignored me for about twenty minutes while waiting on other customers even though they knew that I was waiting. There were two people working and they didn't seem able to handle the slight cue! My other complaint is that there is VERY limited seating with all but one table being located outside. Therefore, this is a great place if it's a sunny day and you want to sit outside. With us, it was raining and cold so we chose the small table inside. The inside table is odd and you feel crammed into the corner of the shop. It wasn't very comfortable so we didn't stay very long. The coffee was very average and I wasn't really impressed with my experience. Though I didn't have a doughnut here, but they did look amazing and like you'd need to go to the gym for the next month every day just to work off the guilt of eating the thing! read more

It's right by me, in fact, I'm just about off to pick up some of their day-old rolls for a stupidly cheap price. They have another shop on the Vallance Road, and this one on Jubilee Street has funny opening times. But if you get here on time, when it's open, then you'll see what's good. They're a very very good bakery. And they should be, I go round the back, and there's about 20 people working flat out in a massive bakery, just so that the shop front, and this other branch are well-stocked. They also sell to loads of other businesses. It's a Jewish-type bakery, so their beigels and chola bread are fairly amazing. They also do really good loaves, rolls amazing, cakes sublime. I don't normally struggle, but when they got them all in the window.... uurrgghh. Makes me wanna eat! Really cheap, really good quality, and a very friendly lady behind the counter. It's not like proper glam when you go in, but a very reassuringly simple aesthetic. And with product like this, it's no wonder it's as busy as it is. read more

An amazing family run old school bakery that has been in the family for 3 generations and opened in 1911. You can taste the wholesome family values and traditional baking techniques in all these products. I initially walked in for a sandwich, and walked out with a salmon bagel, 2 danish pastries and 3 Crodough (which the latter is the latest "thing" from America). I can't believe I didn't review this place until now, it's one of them places that you absolutely MUST visit in London! It's a cute little bakery tucked away off the main road and it does phenomenal pastries. They are known for the cronut - which for those that don't know it, it's a fusion between a croissant and donut! They do lots of flavours - raspberry, custard, oreo and I'm told soon to be cream egg too! They sell out fast on a weekend, is schedule your visit early! Recently, they started selling rainbow bagels, which are colourful, weird and wonderful looking bagels! Great for an insta picture and even better for eating! They offer a marshmallow topping or oreo cream cheese. It was an obvious no brainer, I would go for the oreo filling and omg was it good?! Judging by how good this tasted, it's a trend which is here to stay and I couldn't be happier! Opened in 1911, this family run bakery has been serving up some quality goods for over 100 years. In fact, Jen Rinkoff was on hand that morning and was wrapping up our pastries to go - I only realised who she was after talking to a fellow early riser outside. This guy has been going to Rinkoff for the past 30 years and credited the raisin danish as the reason for his loyalty. He was kind enough to share some of that danish with us and I've got to concur - that's a damn good pastry. There are indeed almost too many choices to be had but you can rest assured you'll find something you like. I'm planning on a return visit shortly to sample some more items, but for today we're looking just at those delightful cro-doughs taking centre stage. Rinkoff makes three toppings for the cro-dough at the moment: raspberry, custard, and fresh cream with chocolate chunks. But first, let's talk about the cro-dough base. This one is doughnut shaped and coloured and has a crispy, flaky outer layer as one would expect from a croissant. The interior, however, is soft and fluffy and everything a doughnut should be. Yes, this is exactly what I envisioned a cronut to be and I dare say its better designed and executed that the original. Toppings wise, while all are good the raspberry is the standout. Don't get me wrong, I liked the silky custard and the light airy fresh cream, but the tartness of the raspberry coulis contrasting the sweetness of the pastry was perfect. Plus, it's a delight on the eyes with a couple of artfully arranged fresh raspberries garnishing your cro-dough. read more

On my search for the mythical beast, "The Cronut", I ended up heading into the depths of East London to Rinkoff Bakeries. After wandering back and forth for what seemed like hours (but was really about 5 minutes), I almost grew frustrated and impatient that the Cronut seemed nowhere to be found. Finally, the smell of fried goods coming from near what seemed to be estate housing lured me closer, and Rinkoff Bakery finally showed itself. (Seriously, it's HELLA hard to find, who knew Jubilee Street turned into a walking area?) Once inside Rinkoff Bakeries, I inquired about the Cronut (or Cro-dough as they call it inside), as I saw four of them sitting in the case, but I was hoping to get six in order to feed a hungry workplace. Lo and Behold, the Cronuts were not ready, and there was a five minute wait. I was asked what variety I'd like, so I chose two of each. After five minutes the Cronuts were mine, and I left happily carrying a bag full of fried, flaky goodness. And how is this hard-to-get Cronut? I tried two of the flavors, and by far the raspberry flavor is the best. The Cronut itself is soft and flaky and there's a mountain of raspberry jam oozing out of the center. I was in pastry heaven. Heaven I say. If you find yourself out in East London in the morning (but not too early morning), and you're looking for a delicious treat, Rinkoff is the place to go. For years I'd been meaning to come here. I love bakeries (duh, I'm human) and while even unhealthy me can't justify a cronut more than once or twice a year, I have managed to try a few from London and I haven't been all that impressed (Cocomaya do some good ones, though). So I decided to finally make the trip - it's just one bus from work, but it's a long ride. Luckily I was outfitted with my newly downloaded Pokemon Go, which is very easily played from a slow-moving bus, so the journey wasn't too bad. A bit tricky to find but I didn't get lost. I must admit that going through the little tunnel which, to be honest, had a strong smell of urine, didn't really put me into the bakery mood. In any event, I'm glad I did go! I was only there for cronuts. It was late - around 3pm on a Monday - so i didn't hold out hope for a wide variety of flavours - but they had them all. The man serving me was a bit surly but ran through the flavours for me, at a speed which meant I wasn't entirely sure what they had, but nothing was out of the ordinary so I chose 3 for Brian and I to share - an oreo cheesecake, a cherry pie, and a peanut butter & jelly. I also got my free mini-danish with my Yelp check in (it was delicious, btw). The 3 cronuts came to £8.80, but the box was reassuringly heavy. The journey back on the bus was again quick, but the tube was slow, as the box of delicious sat there on my lap taunting me. I made it home though with the treats all in one piece, and broke into the PB&J first. It was good. Really good. Very much like the one from Cocomaya, sweet but not too sweet, crunchy dough, soft in the middle. It was light on the filling though. The other two didn't have that problem! Oreo cheesecake has a slight savouriness to it, as the cream cheese isn't heavily sweetened. Both Brian and I thought it took a couple of bites to get good but then it was really good. My favourite was the cherry pie, though - fruity and sweet but not tooth-achingly so. It was with a heavy heart that I had to throw away a quarter of it and the oreo one, as I was just too full and they clearly wouldn't be good enough the next day to justify the calories and fat! Definitely plumping for the salted caramel, the smores, and another cherry one next time. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can go back! read more

Holy cronut. After finding out that the elusive 'cronut' has made its way across the pond - let alone, to a a bakery pretty much at my doorstep - I had no excuse not to investigate the situation. And so to Rinkoff, I went. I met Teresa C there, bright and early in the morning, right when the bakery was opening up at 8am. T and I wanted cronuts (er...cro-doughs, as Rinkoff hails them), and we wanted them hot and fresh. After a few minutes of waiting, and chatting with the lovely staff members at the bakery, we got our cronuts - for me, the raspberry jam type, and for Teresa, one of the same, along with two of the fresh cream and chocolate shaving variety (she's a generous soul who bought some back for her flatmates...I would've just eaten them myself, if I were her!). Now, you've got to realise that there's been a lot of build-up (/dribble) going on in my head (/mouth) in anticipation for the experience that was about to ensue. I had yet to receive a suitable explanation from my NYC friends who had tried the OG, Ansel variety of cronuts, other than 'they're the best effing thing ever' and 'you must try one'. Thanks guys, all really helpful. But they were right, and it's true, cro-nuts/doughs are really an inexplicable sort of thing. At first, I just thought it tasted like a churro, because of the cinnamon sugar dusted on the outside of the pastry. Then, I kept biting through the middle, and around the cinnamony bits, and discovered its flaky, buttery, slightly uncooked croissant centre, with streams of sticky raspberry filling in between. I think since Teresa and I got the first batch of the day, the oil temperature was still being tested out - I ate about half of the pastry at first and returned to it a bit later, only to find that it was a bit soggy and oil-seepy. Additionally, mine was EVER so slightly burnt on the outside, and had a tiiiiiny bit too much cinnamon for my liking. (This is why I say it was probably due to too-hot oil frying issues). Other than that, cronuts aka cro-doughs aka 'best things ever', FTW. I didn't go on the crawl with the other Yelpers, because I have the metabolism of a hibernating bear, but I'd like to go back to Rinkoff and try the other flavours before venturing to the other knockoff cronut dispensaries in this fine city. read more

In London, you DON'T have to queue at stupid o clock for cronuts. Then again, its not Dominique Ansel... Rinkoff Bakery was one of the first places to do a cronut, and I've had the luck of trying the raspberry one before, but I've never actually been here! (Btw, the raspberry one was SO SO SO good!) So it's actually located in a really local part of east london, away from all the chains and the bustle of the city. We turned up at 11ish on a sunday and lo and behold, these monstrous offerings formed a whole shelf! It's bloody massive, so I'd recommend sharing for sure. As much as I was tempted to get the raspberry one again, my attention was snatched away with a tasty looking pistachio and salted caramel! (I love love love pistachio in desserts- way to my heart!) And it was delicious it was, but man it was a bit greasy, I only managed a quarter, the rest got doles out between my family. Explaining to them that I brought a deep fried flaky butter pastry and convincing them that I'm not a fatty wasn't easy, so I HAD to share. (That and also the cronut being as LARGE as my head!) Btw. Everything from this bakery is a slice of heaven! I am huge fan of Rinkoffs! They have THE best Cronuts with different flavours: raspberry, chocolate, custard, plain and apple. Their cheesecake is a beauty and is always delicious. However, the creme de la creme for me is the Red Velvet Cake/ Cupcakes! But we went to find these cronuts so in we went. I got caramel pistachio and I really liked it. We came here for the crodoughs, and we were not disappointed! I was surprised to find the bakery in a kind of shady-seeming area, but I forgot about that as soon as I got inside. The staff was very helpful and everything looked (and smelled) really good and homey. My boyfriend and I decided to share a cherry pie crodough, and it was amazing! This was easily the best cronut I have every had! I tried the smores flavor. The outside was flaky while the inside was moist and cake like. There was a ring of chocolate that was the consistency of Nutella inside it and the marshmallow top was perfectly gooey.
