Plain Bagel with Lox and Cream Cheese
    Robert W.

I grew up in Poughkeepsie so I went to Bagel World a lot as a teenager since the time it opened up. When they first opened up, their bagels were super fresh, prices were cheap, and the service was awesome and enthusiastic. I've noticed over the years, that all these things have changed overall: the bagels are not nearly as fresh, the prices have basically doubled, and the staff doesn't look so happy to be there anymore. My go to is the plain bagel (not toasted) with lox and cream cheese. A great bagel should never need to be toasted. Toasting a bagel makes a great bagel worse, but a bad bagel better. It is the ultimate leveler, but we this is in NY so we should be expecting some great bagels. Nowadays, my bagels are hit or miss, but the last few times I've went, the bagels are still pretty good with nice serving sizes. Just not as good as it once was (and could still be in the future).

I've been coming here for years and it's always so good. One of my favorite things to order is a over easy egg on top of home fries. The home fries are so good and even have peppers and onions in them. My most recent fav combo has been an everything bagel with the bacon and cheddar cheese cream cheese. It's like eating a BEC on a bagel but not as heavy definitely recommend. Another go to favorite is sesame bagel with chive and onion cream cheese. Either way you can't go wrong as all the bagels are great here!

Great bagels, spreads, sandwiches, sufficient seating, Free WiFi, friendly staff. What more could you ask for. Can't give them more superlatives

I absolutely love this place, the bagels are amazing. I have been here twice. First stop I had a strawberry cream cheese bagel and this time I tried the everything bagel. Given a 10 mile radius I would say its the best bagel. Free wifi but technically you should be off your phone and enjoying the deliciousness of carbs. Give this place a try and try to tip if you can because these businesses can definitely use it in these times.

The bagels and cream cheese are very good. I had the everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese which was the perfect level of spicy. My husband tried the veggie cream cheese and liked that as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the service...the lady who eventually helped me out was ok but it took a while to get someone to help.

They have a limited bagel selection right now because of covid 19, but still have plenty to choose from. Got an egg everything bagel with vegetables and cheese and it was amazing. Service was great too!!

I'm so pumped to find a bagel place that reminds me of home! The bagels are made in house and you can definitely tell. This is the only place to go and grab a bagel or hang out to enjoy!

I mentioned this cute little town because it's just one of the little niches along the Hudson river that makes a perfect little day trip. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: really quaint storefront, and first impression.Enter through the cafe door which also functions as a retail shop for handmade objects like soaps, etc. The gifts have an upscale vibe-worth a trip back. We had about 15 minutes to kill before attending a Yelp event across The Street so we opted to take the chill off by purchasing a hot beverage at Norma's. The staff is pretty laid-back, friendly, but laid-back. If you're in a hurry, I'm not sure if this would work. The hot and cold beverages are very straightforward and you can get some vegan options here. There were two behind the counter, but I felt they were a little engaged in their personal banter and we're not that attentive. Not a real sense of urgency or purpose. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but once they did give us their full attention, we let them know that we were waiting for an event across the street and didn't have a lot of time. They asked us if we'd like to sit down with our beverage and we opted to do so since it was pretty cold outside. We ordered two hot chocolate And two homemade biscuits. They gave us a table number stanchion for the table and let us know they would be bringing it to us. We did not need to wait. We took the three steps down to the main dining area, where we were pleasantly surprised that they were having a live event - in this case it was a storytelling event. There was a table available for the two of us so we sat down and quickly realized that the table was so off-balance that it post a potential safety hazard. When I placed my hot chocolate down and rested my wrist, the entire table tilted forward toward me. This is an easy thing to fix, but my guess is that it's been this way for a really long time. That's unfortunate. All that aside, the room was really cozy and had a lot of character - lots of two top and four top tables to provide a very intimate setting with each one having a good view of the small stage Minutes went by and there was no biscuit delivered. More minutes went by and we began to wonder if they had forgotten. I guess is that they weren't making the biscuits from scratch so most likely they did forget. Since we had already paid for everything with a pretty generous tip, we waited a a few more minutes. Time ran out when we noticed that the event attendees were lining up across the street. That's something we could see from the really great big windows that faced Main Street. Reluctantly, my sister and I got up from the table and headed to the counter where we had made the order. We let them know that we needed to go and asked if the biscuits were ready. They seemed perplexed at first and then a lightbulb moment. Yes. I suspect they did forget the order. I wouldn't bother so much but two biscuits and two hot chocolates. It was about $20 plus tip so when they recognized that the biscuits were still missing, they asked if we would like to take them to go. The lack of awareness was disappointing because they were clearly not busy with anything else A minute or two later, they emerged from the kitchen with a small bag, presumably containing the two biscuits. Service was definitely lacking, particularly for what is a bit of a higher priced venue. Maybe we caught them on an off night but my sense is that laid back attitude is built in to the business model. Would I return to Norma's? I'm not sure. The hot chocolate was good, not from a mix, but would it bring me back? I'll let you know.

We leave Long Island early so we usually look for a breakfast spot on the way up. We checked Yelp (what else would we check) and found this hidden gem of a diner. It was aprrox. 10 minutes off the Taconic Pky. and worth every minute to have breakfast here. It's located in a small strip mall so it was a very easy in and out off the main road. Parking early in the morning is never usually problem. Out of the car and made our way into this very cozy-warm-comfortable-non-flashy setting. We also received wonderful hellos and good mornings from all of the staff and customers sitting too. We really enjoyed the place. Cozy, friendly and not glitzy. I ordered the French Toast and my wife the vegetable omelette. Without a doubt, one of the best breakfasts ever. Delicious french toast that tasted special. Well cooked and plentiful. Great link sausages that did not taste like supermarket blend. My wife's omelette was tasty-fresh and loaded with veggies. This shop is a home run. She ordered the deluxe burger; which comes with french fries and three onion rings, also medium rare. When they eventually came out, both burgers were beyond well done and cold!!! Then our waiter disappeared! I say waiter because I had to wait around for him to eventually be summoned from back in the kitchen by someone who didn't look old enough to be behind the bar. He looked at me like I was making it up. I cut the burger open and it was obvious it was overcooked! He asked if I wanted it replaced?! Sorry for the inconvenience, but it's not what I ordered! What do you think - was in my thought bubble. He never came by to refill the coffee, or ask how everything was? When the bill came, I was charged for the deluxe burger & for side of onion rings. Service was top notch. The free bread and bruschetta is house made and highly recommended. Mrs had the Reuben (shocker)- liked it a lot. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and it was excellent. Moist not greasy, coating was spot on. Honestly, one of the best I've had. Wife had two lemon-drops and 3 domestic beers for me. No appetizers $77 pre-tip. Which I thought was very reasonable. We are here through the weekend and plan on coming back tomorrow. Longest review ever- sorry We're back 2 days later because of a snow storm and the day prior, there was standing room only. Note to everyone- get there early.. I have no idea how I didn't know about this place in my many trips back home after I moved away. Back in the bar area. Service was once again spot on. Somewhat quiet today. Good happy hour deals. Mrs Reuben went 180 on me and ordered the Parmesan encrusted chicken- which is good cuz I'll get some. Chicken was tender, and really nice sauce. Ample portion I got the Mac n' Cheese because she said I had to try something new. (Happy wife- happy life)" really good, large size / could split it. Very cheesy. Little extra salt for both was a good touch. It was a rather stressful weekend (we're loosing a family member) we had the two entries, shared a soup, and 3 martini/ drinks each- $125. Which again, for the wonderful decompression space, service and food, is a very reasonable price. On the way out my wife got two canopies- $8. And our bartender came running after us because my wife left her headphones. THANK YOU
