While visiting Poughkeepsie, we found ourselves in a hotel that had terrible breakfast -- so bad that we chose to venture out and pay for breakfast instead. Based on Yelp reviews, we tried Bagel World and we were *not* let down! The owner (or manager) took and delivered our order both days and he made us feel incredibly welcome. (It's always nice when people will look you in the eye and smile genuinely.) The bagels were of the lighter variety (less dense and chewy than some NY bagels). My husband had a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything and I had my standard -- lox and cream cheese on a plain bagel. Both were delicious! Bonus: good coffee and a big selection of pre-packaged beverages, too. We really liked Bagel World (and not just because our hotel breakfast was a 0/10). The bagels & cream cheese spreads are fantastic. One of my all time favorite spots. However, the service could be improved. When placing an order, the staff usually comes across as if they are annoyed that you called, and every time I order, they don't say thank you, or give me a time, or anything...they just, hang up. It's awkward, and off putting. Also, be prepared to hover a little when you come in to either order or pick up. Staff moves a little slow; again seemingly annoyed. This place could be perfect if they had a staff that made you feel welcome at a community bagel shoppe. The bacon on their sandwiches is just outright nasty. The flavor is completely off and it is really chewy. I feel like bacon is so easy to get right. the bacon had no crispness at all. The everything bagel wasn't really seasoned well. It was baked well enough but the bagel itself was just not great. It was more inline with a bagel you'd get at Dunkin Donuts. I also ordered an everything bagel with butter. Well they're not using butter or anythign that tastes even remotely like butter. The bagel was served with some kind of margarine/butter substitute. There was very little of this spread, but it was nasty so I was quite thankful. It took forever to be served and it wasn't even that busy. The employees are slow to assist and they all look mostly miserable. I hate to put a place down but the lack of a decent bagel place on Route 9 is simply astounding. There are places that are not bagel specific that have better bagels and better sandwiches. I really do not recommend anyone stop here even if you must have bagel. read more

This place is simply amazing!!! I travel to visit my best friend from buffalo and I literally buy a dozen bagels from here every day that I am here. Wide selection plus a wide selection of cream cheeses. Everything is made fresh in front of you and the breakfast sandwiches are to die for. The owner is so happy and friendly. This is the closest bagel place when I am in Poughkeepsie so I have tried it out several times before writing this review. The location is large and has a good variety of bagels but the staff is sub par. I think yesterday was the third time I have put a order in and it has not come out correct. This is one of the few locations thats offers gluten free bagels but they never get the order correct. Every time i call an order in for an egg sandwich i ask for egg whites and they put a whole fried egg on every time. This place has such a cute atmosphere and the staff is usually very sweet! One thing I'd like them to work on is the menu, because I asked about the tofu cream cheese on the menu and the woman at the counter very nastily told me "we don't sell that"...so take it off the menu maybe. The employees looked like they were moving as fast as they could, but they weren't keeping up with this popular spot. We chose this shop over a closer one to us because of the great reviews. My coworker and I ended up dropping in here for a quick lunch, while we waited for my car to get serviced, at the recommendation of my service advisor at Mid Hudson Subaru. I was told that the chicken salad was really good, so I ordered the Waldorf salad, which was really big and quite delicious. My coworker had a Mediterranean veggie wrap of some kind that she enjoyed. She also brought a dozen bagels home to Albany with her, including some crazy ones like pistachio blueberry. I'll have to try the bagels and cream cheese (they had a lot of really creative flavors) on the next trip. But for a quick cafe lunch, this is a good choice. read more

Having just moved to the area a couple months ago, I've been here twice. I'm a native NYC'er who's lived in DC, Pittsburgh, and even Oklahoma...so I've tested bagels elsewhere. Bagel world is excellent!! I especially love their breakfast sandwiches. The staff are also super friendly, greeting everyone even when busy. The pro's: interesting cream cheeses, that are pretty good. Probably the best bagels for this area, although that is not saying too much at all.... The con's: the irritated worker who had a puss on her face the whole time as I ordered a dozen of bagels and 4 cream cheeses. Is it really that hard to smile and to pretend to be glad to have a job? She couldn't even bother to wipe the cream cheese she smeared all over the outside of their containers.... Great more work for me after I dropped a bunch of money on their bagels and cream cheese. The bagels here are freshly made every day on site and besides the different assortments of cream cheeses for the bagels they also have wraps, salads, and sandwiches. The one thing I do enjoy about Bagel World is that they cook your sandwiches right in front of you and you can see what is being made through plexiglass. It is a little bit pricey for me but when I am willing to splurge I will go here for some good eats! read more

Not impressed. Just finished everything bagel with whitefish salad and slivered onion. A classic. Bagel doughy, barely any whitefish and they toasted the bagel. I didn't ask. A good bagel does not need to b toasted. A bad bagel does. I was excited to see good reviews but they must be reviewing the colorful pleasant environment not the bagel. You can do better. This place has the tastiest bagels that I have had in a very, very long time. I had the pleasure of getting a dozen right fresh out of the oven, and it was "I want this for my last meal" good. I really enjoy the atmosphere and varied menu. What I'm not too crazy about is some of the prices for things - for a half pound of veggie cream cheese, it was ~$6 (I hadn't had my morning coffee yet, but it didn't seem that the price for that was clearly posted anywhere). The plain cream cheese in the half pound (smallest that you can really get with a half dozen bagels) was ~$4. It's just real pricey, which makes it hard because I don't like spending that kind of money in a casual eating establishment. I want to like this place because the place appears to be upbeat and it is on the correct side of busy Rte 9 fo me heading south in the morning, but there is now fast lane for coffee-only customers. I even mentioned it a couple of times but every time I stop for coffee with limited time on the way to work, I have to stand in line behind food orders - kills my schedule. Very good food. Bagels are a slightly lighter consistency of your traditional "dense bagels". Maybe baked not boiled? I dont know. Delightfully refreshing consistency. The bacon cheddar cream cheese on an Asiago bagel was insanely delicious. He spent some money on this place, it's very nice and clean and the kitchen is a full legit kitchen gleaming from cleanliness.
