Just ordered from bagel basket, food was good as always, but order was wrong. Waited a ridiculus amount of time for my food to be made, during what some people would call "downtime" for a bagel shop. Cashiers were eating food out in the open and the whole time customers were growing impatient waiting for our orders. Another employee was counting tips continuously and exchanging them out for dollar bills every time a tip was put in the jar. Might want to worry about your quality of service first and then maybe you'll get tips that you won't have to count exchange for dollars bills. I don't expect much from a small town bagel place, but how hard is it to get an order correct?! Went in today and ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel on a cheddar bagel. I asked for extra cheese to be on the sandwich. Sound simple enough? There were a group of girls working and they clearly had no idea what they were doing. It took them all to just complete one sandwich. Wait it gets better. After making the sandwiches for the line of people waiting, they proceeded to just put them on the counter. They didn't call out the names or the food that was prepared, they expected the line of customers to come up and figure out what their order was. Like I said I don't expect much from a small establishment, but maybe having people who were competent in their job or actually cared about the customers would be a good investment for the owner to look into. read more

I go to Bagel Basket every morning on my way to work and sometimes even on the weekends! Their sandwiches are AMAZING, the variety of flavored coffees are all delicious, and they now make fruit smoothies as well. The owner and his staff are wonderful and they're always pleasant! The combination of indoor and outdoor seating is a huge plus too. I wish I could give this place zero stars instead of one. I have tried to give this place multiple chances but it leaves me disappointed every time. The bagels are gummy and chewy at best and either need to be cooked longer or TOASTED longer, and seem to be under-cooked every time I've been there. I thought I could overlook this and ask for it extra toasted so my boyfriend and I went back and as we were eating our sandwiches he pulled a giant hair out from the middle of his sandwich and neither of us could finish ours out of disgust. We were done with this place for a while but then decided to give it another chance when they remodeled. We got a bagel sandwich to split and when we got home and opened it up, half of the insides were wrapped around it and it was mushed and cut so horribly we couldn't even split it let alone eat it. I wish I had taken a picture. The last straw was today when we went for two bagels without anything on them, a side of cream cheese and two small coffees. It rang up to $14!!! On the menu it says that bagels are $1.10! Unless the tiny coffees are $6 each I can't IMAGINE how our tiny order could be $14. The girl didn't give me a receipt or even ask if I wanted one so I couldn't even see how much each thing was. Bottom line, I tried to give this place SO many chances but have been let down every time. Never going back. I frequent this place for breakfast, while on my way to work. The food is fresh, and made to order. Their breakfast bagel sandwiches are particularly tasty. They also have a pretty good selection of coffee and tea. Service here is friendly and usually prompt, but can sometimes bog down a bit if the morning rush brings in a lot of patrons. read more

Great food. Decent service (a little slow, especially when busy). However, I'm not a fan of their new music on various Saturday mornings. It can also get very busy on weekend mornings due to the apartments and Lehigh U housing complex across the street. We love the food at bagel basket we live so close and it's so convenient. With that being said, the service at times is dreadful. Today, for instance, I was the only person in the store- some guy walks in walks in the back, 10 minutes later plops six bagels into a bag and leaves.. So now I waited 15 minutes only person in the store finally get my bagel, I get home to give it to my son and it's burnt. I would hate to stop giving bagel basket business, but if I go in there one more time and have to deal with a situation like that, they will lose our business. The bagels themselves are soft and remind me more of a soft pretzel than a bagel, but that works great for an egg and cheese sandwich since they are soft enough to easily bite into. If you are looking for a classic NY-style bagel, this is not the place for you. The main downfall of this place is their customer service, which I would rate a 0/5. When you ask for the bagel toasted, it is not crispy or crunchy or even browned at all. I started asking for "double toasted" or "extra toasted" and I still receive an uncrispy, unbrowned bagel. When approached about my untoasted bagel, they simply microwaved it and gave it back and couldn't understand what the problem was. On my last visit, I ordered 3 extra-toasted bagel sandwiches to-go and a coffee (it was 1pm around lunchtime). I paid and went to fill up my coffee, and all of the machines were empty and missing. I asked the cashier for a refund for my coffee, she didn't even look at me or acknowledge my request, handed me my money and muttered under her breath to her co-worker that they empty the coffee at noon. Then I have no idea why she took my order for a coffee at 1pm if she knew there was none left? These high school age girls behind the counter have no manners or customer service. They also take their phone off the hook about 75% of the time now so you can't call in your orders, but when asked, they just say their phone isn't working. This place is the BEST in the entire area. Being from NY City, I can easily say that Bagel Basket is as close to a NY deli as you will get in this part of Pennsylvania. There is a reason why students from all the universities in the area choose to make the drive to Bagel Basket over going to Johnny's which is right on Lehigh's campus. 1) Bagel Basket puts REAL bacon in their breakfast sandwiches, rather than turkey bacon, and 2) the deli meat is Boar's Head, which is the best. The service is not horrible. You can call ahead and your food will be ready for you as soon as you get there. The owner is also extremely friendly and personable, as are most of the girls who work there. When I got it there was none. He took it back only to be told he didn't order that. Now instead of fixing it the OWNER chose to argue with him about LETTUCE & TOMATO!
