My husband loves the kimchi and pork, which definitely has more flavor, but I personally find the kimchi flavor too overwhelming, lol. Their spicy wonton is decent, but the sauce isn't as delicious and addicting as DTF, haha. Their bafang pork chop was actually a little disappointing, it came out soggy/not crispy, and the flavor definitely leaned toward the sweeter side. I got a strong hint of cinnamon (?) and I just would've preferred a more savory and crispy pork chop. Their wonton soup was surprisingly delicious and maybe even my favorite thing here! I think that you can get good value here, my issue is the dumplings are quite bland. Really didn't taste much and the sauces were not helping out much. If I was to return I would stick with the noodle dishes, those were good, but the dumplings are pretty pointless for me when so many places make them better. I would have given them three stars except that they don't run their AC and it was miserably hot in there. It was easily 90+ degrees in there and I was eating a hot noodle soup. I was dripping sweat. When I stepped out, it was way cooler and nicer outside and since it was only 71. If you're going to be stingy about AC, then I will never return. Now about the food. The best thing here are their dumplings. Everything else is just okay. I've been here a couple of times and have tried a few things. The standard noodle, just okay. The Taiwanese beef noodles soup, a bit sour for my taste and the meat (although generous amount) wasn't that good and a very cheap cut of beef. Beef noodle soups are supposed to be hearty. There was nothing hearty about there beef noodle soup. The fried chicken was dark meat which I like, but it was way too greasy. There was a layer of grease or something between the meat and the batter, not sure what it was. The wonton dumplings were decent. I'd rather go across the street to A&J for beef noodle soup. Yum! I really wanted to give a 5 but being Mexican I really wanted a spicier chilli oil sauce on the side to dip my potstickers in and add to my soup. The sauce they have is more of a sweet spicy . But I will definitely be a returning customer. The noodles had a clean taste, if I described it, it would be like thick non spicy chilli oil noodles, different but tasty. The wonton soup was my favorite especially on a cold night. Came on a Monday night and it was not to busy there was almost no wait but plenty of people eating. Staff is friendly and the place is clean. Walking out I did notice it was odd because you almost walk into the dirt and a wheel chair would deff not fit if the doors are propped open. Bafang Dumpling - Cold chicken - Taiwanese Near Me - Irvine, California

So since the opening I have been wanting to try this place because of the hype that has been created with all the new stores they have been adding in California. My parents even knew about it since there is also a San Diego location. So let's start with the parking, since the opening parking in the plaza has been an all time worse, it's hard to get in and out of spaces adjacent to the store and with the other Japanese noodle place open, spots are just hard to find. Now the dining concept here is geared more towards take out as seating is very limited. On any given day there can be lines out the door which I'm not sure if it's people waiting for seating or just ordering. The online ordering only seems to be available when things are slow and turned off when it's super busy. Since take out seems to be the predominant method, the quality of fried food items goes down with time as things tend to get soggy, there by the time we actually got to enjoy our food, the pot stickers did not have any crunch and had almost the same consistency as the boiled dumplings. Overall the flavor of the signature dumplings was decent but the ratio of meat to vegetables was off, too much veg and not enough meat. We did find the meat to fat ratio to be good so the filling was moist and flavorful. For the signature noodles I found them to be ok but thought that the peanut flavor could have been stronger and it needed more green onion. The chili level was good but depending on taste I could see people wanting more heat. Now what I found to not be very efficient was the sauce station. It's a very small area which really only one person at a time can access. They really need to have prepackaged sauces ready to go to get people in and out especially when it's a separate pump for soy, vinegar, sesame, etc. and the typical way to enjoy them is with a combination of all of them. Now lastly tell talk about the price, at an average price of close to $1 a piece it's on par with most places considering the size and quality, an average meal will run you about $14 after tax not including beverage. Overall it's a solid 3 but the place could use some other improvements to run more efficiently. read more

Bafang Dumpling just opened up in Irvine about 2 weeks ago and I was so excited to try it. I first tried Bafang in 626 area and I remembered it being really good, so I had to run it back and see if I felt the same. Arrived to the plaza around 6pm on a Sunday and there was definitely no parking. Really tough to find parking in this plaza and where Bafang is located, the road to the parking spaces in front of the restaurant is one way in and out, so be prepared to do a 10 point turn out to get out of there if there's no spaces to park. Ordering Inside + Service: It wasn't too crowded when I arrived, but definitely a line right after I ordered (dinner rush I suppose). The menu is posted clearly listing all their items and combos. The line didn't take too long, I can see everyone going in and out pretty quickly. I waited about 10 minutes overall to get my food to go after ordering. You can get sauces, utensils, etc, on the side of the cash register area. there's about 10 tables in there, not too much for seating wise, but I can see most people are ordering to go regardless. Workers are super friendly and i can see the team is pretty efficient. For a brand new place, the wait time for food was quick and getting in and out is easy. What I ordered: I had to try the combo which is the easiest way for me to get what I wanted. I had combo 4&6. Combo 4: signature potstickers & signature dry noodles. I liked this combo a lot, but it may just be because of the noodles. There's so much flavor to the signature dry noodle and it's spicy but not too spicy. For the potstickers, it was average for me, I think mine had too much cabbage vs meat ratio. I would have preferred less cabbage since it makes the inside a bit more soggy. 7/10 Combo 6: Bafang dumpling bowl (4pcs of each flavor) and it comes with a soda OR soup (corn soup or hot & sour). The 3 flavors are the house Bafang signature, kimchi, and corn&chicken. I got to try all 3 flavor, it's pretty much like a sampler platter and I got the hot & sour soup. My favorite dumpling would be the corn and chicken dumpling, the sweetness of the corn just kicks the flavors up a notch compared to just pork and cabbage. The kimchi is average, I think I would prefer getting dumplings and have a side of kimchi vs inside the dumpling. The signature dumpling was really good, but not comparable to the corn and chicken. I would probably get all corn and chicken dumplings the next time I go. 7/10 Sides: they offer some cold sides next to the cash register, sea kelp, tofu marinated in soy sauce, pickled cucumbers, and some other items as well. I usually get a side or two to balance out the oil and spicy of the dishes i order. Overall, Bafang in Irvine met my expectations and is comparable to the one in SGV. Next time I'll probably try some other items, like their beef noodle soup, corn soup, or pork chops. read more

Ordered 6 signature dumplings, 6 signature wontons, signature noodles & the hot and sour soup, all of which were ready in about 10 minutes. I enjoyed the crispy pot stickers. While the dumplings' dough was a little thick, I enjoyed the ginger flavor. Personally felt that the signature noodles were missing something, when they were dressed with the garlic soy sauce they were better. The hot and sour soup was the standout. The service: We were standing in front of the cashier waiting for assistance/ looking at the menu for a few minutes before we were helped. The cashier didn't acknowledge us at all before he went to refill the broth, and my party almost left because we found it rude, but stayed because we wanted to try the food. If not for my curiosity, we probably would have left. Friendlier service would bump this rating up to 3.5. Overall, this fast casual establishment is a good spot for a quick bite, but don't expect spectacular customer service. When Bafang opened their first restaurant in City of Industry, I traveled from Newport Beach to try their potstickers and I have to say, it was well worth the 2 hour round trip. Then when they opened the one in Gardena, I went there. When I went there I was worried it wouldn't be as good as City of Industry, but I was happy that it was just as good, if not better than. When they finally opened Irvine, I was thrilled as now I wouldn't have to travel so far. I went on Grand Opening weekend and I was soooooooo disappointed. The pot stickers were horrible. They had zero flavor and were lifeless as they weren't crispy at all. I emailed corporate to let them know their Irvine restaurant was nothing like the others. Never heard back from them, as they don't care about customer service. I chalked up the first experience at the Irvine location as a fluke because they were so new. The next thing we tried was the original dumpling. This was the only thing I finished and mostly because I was hungry. The filling was fine but I swear you could get the same quality in the Trader Joe's frozen section. The corn dumpling had that weird sickly sweet taste similar to the soup. And the kimchi one was like a La Croix version of kimchi with just the essence of the flavor. I left the restaurant hungry and ready to head across the parking lot to Tofu King for an unplanned second dinner and some reliably tasty food! On our way out I noticed everyone else eating the potstickers and looking rather content. Maybe I'd have had a different opinion had I been directed to the food that everyone else was there to eat. Their pork chop is really thin. It was too sweet and didn't taste like it was made out of 100% meat. Would not order this again. Also got their sweet and sour soup. Would not order again. According to a visiting tourist this is one of those Meet Fresh-like brands that has an HQ in Taiwan and is expanding to the US. They are known for their pot stickers according to him. It is located in the same plaza as the 99 Ranch on Walnut. The parking was terrible. While this plaza is already terrible in parking and one can take it or leave it, I was significantly more affected by having to accommodate someone with a mobility problem, necessitating me to park closer. There were insufficient spaces that satisfied his requirement and people just kept snatching spaces that fulfilled them, particularly those in front of the building. Since this affected the whole of our party I have to place more weight on it affecting my numerical rating. The seating inside was also very limited so he couldn't sit down despite a need for it (not that we intended to anyway since we were getting takeout). We placed our order with the cashier and they just took it as is without attempting to sales pitch us anything we didn't plan to buy. Since it was the first time I was not able to select the items very well and I think I got a lower value by ordering individual items than by getting combos. They handed a pager to me that lot up when the food was done. It took a long time to come out. The food tasted pretty standard as far as I could tell. I do not know if I would try this again unless there was some dietary need for me to eat it due to it not being convenient to eat/order at, and requirement of verbal ordering, though it seemed fine saying everything in a terse manner. read more
