Brewery #281 This place understands me, it get's me, I'm partially convinced they tapped my brain or my metaverse and said "Let's make a place that caters to this guy, Da Gabe aka Mike Honcho" Bad Dad has taken dad jokes and made a brewery. Beers named 'Socks and Sandals, Pull My Finger, I'll Turn this Car Around' and many more. Their tin tacker is of a slightly obese dad in an undersized sleeveless shirt, headband and white New Balance sneakers riding a beer can. Perfection. Genius! While their humor got me in the door, their pizza and beer will get me to come back. I got my standard flight with I'll Turn This Car Around (Hazy IPA), Kiss the Cook (DIPA), Snooze Button (Imperial Stout) and a Tapestry of Obscenity (IPA). All were really great but The Snooze Button was my favorite of the bunch. We also got a couple of pizzas. A Detroit style called Motown with thick pepperoni, hot honey, and basil which was very tasty and a Margherita pizza that was solid. My only issue was they were out of stickers for my man cave wall but that's just all the reason to go back next time I visit my parents in Indiana. read more

Definitely Destination Dining What a hidden in plain sight gem of a great place for amazing craft beer and out of this world pizza. Kam, our server, took our dining experience to a whole other level. I asked to taste all the beers but the IPAs and was brought a sip of each one, I decided on the "You're Grounded, Mister" Stout. Smooth, with a nice kick of coffee had me order this one twice. Now for the pizza...some of the very best pizza I have ever had. We ordered the "Motown" Detroit style pizza with the Mike's Hot Honey which sent this pizza into orbit and tasted out of the world. The other pizza we ordered was the New Yorker which was a thin crunchy crust pizza and as delicious yet totally different. Stopped here while rolling through town. Nice little spot! Definitely has the traditional "industrial" brewery feel. Unfortunately I was driving so couldn't indulge in any of the beers but the pizza I ordered was delicious! I got the Supreme Detroit Style Pizza. I love a thick bread-y crust and rarely order supreme pizzas because of my hate for black olives. Thankfully this one didn't have any! Serving was definitely big enough for 2 people to share, or to have leftovers. The waitress was also very kind and helpful. Detroit style does take a bit longer to cook because of how thick the crust is, but she set that expectation upon handing us our menus. Worth the wait in my opinion! read more

Don't miss this tiny place in a tiny town. Big flavors, big personality, and great beer on tap! And all with local friendly service. The Detroit style pizza (we had the Motown) was so flavorful and the crispy cheese around the edges is the best! My second visit to Bad Dad was even better than my first. Just on the edge of town in what feels like a neighborhood, you'll find two great spots. We were meeting a friend so we decided on the family salad, bread, and pizza. It was their beach party night so they had Jimmy Buffett music playing, then live music, a special Hawaiian pizza, and plenty of fruited seltzers on tap. We actually sat down at an attached separate restaurant only serving one bad dad beer only to find out if we were interested in more bad dad choices and pizza we needed to go to bad dad brewing inside the same building. Very confusing to new comers. Even the first door we went in which seemed like the obvious entrance was between both businesses with no greeter and tables. We stopped here in the little town of Fairmount Indiana while we stayed in nearby Marion, Indiana. We found this place on Yelp and we love trying micro breweries. Cute restaurant. We sat outside on the patio. They have cool names for their beers and really only have pizza as a choice. We sat next to two ladies that are regulars and they helped us make a pizza selection. Husband and I went for a spontaneous date night. It's a 53 minute drive but oh so worth it! The pizza was honestly some of the best pizza we have ever had. My daughter & I were wandering through the Marion, Gas City, Fairmount area looking for Garfields on a Sunday afternoon & found Bad Bad Brewing. A great brewery in the tiny berg of Fairmount! Crowded on a Saturday night, we luckily snagged two bar seats in this industrial decor addition to GrIain and grill restaurant. I had the Bitte Marzen and the wheat beer, hubs had the sour, the brown aLe and the socks and sandals. Didn't try their IPA's because they came in a can. Had theNew Yorker pizza. Ranks up there with best pizza ever. Fantastic crust with "leoparding" meaning the charred parts of the crust. Pepperoni chips came with a ranch dip and a sweetness from the house honey. After a day of exploring Grant and Blackford Counties, I began winding down my adventure by stopping by this family owned brewery. Located next to the Grains & Grill, the brewery shares the same strip mall building as the restaurant. I grabbed one of the spots in their parking lot and after checking out the front patio which was being readied for the summer, I entered. Inside, the space is quite open with windows at the back that let you see into the brewing area. The bar/order counter is on your left as you enter. I grabbed a spot at the bar and decided to go with the mini flight (4 selections as opposed to trying 12!) I was impressed that there were so many options to choose from in house brews. And the selection ran a full range of tastes to appeal to just about any beer drinker. I started with the Cartoon Cat Hefeweizen that was really good. I immediately got the tastes of clove and banana, not masked by a bunch of stray flavors like some places. When I order a Hefe, this is the kind of flavor I'm looking for. I then tried the Thank Benedict Mocha Stout (5.8%) with a nice amount of chocolate flavor to deliver a tasty and balanced drink. I followed that with one of their multiple IPA options, the Tapestry of Obscenity (6.6%) which may have been my favorite of the flight. Just enough hops without being too bitter. I also got to sample the Crop Dust (also an American IPA) but with a bit more kick (7.1%). Not as hoppy as the Tapestry, but still good and one of their best sellers. I finished off with the Peach Fuzz sour (Berliner Weisse) at 5.4%. Not too sour, but more fruity and just a really pleasant tasting beverage. Somewhat sweeter than expected, I could see this appealing to folks who prefer a sweet cider to brew. The bartender was quite friendly and helped me pass the time by sharing a bit about the business while I sipped. Please note that they do serve pizza, but that the kitchen has different hours most days than the brewery (see my photo for hours). Since, they have food in house and at their restaurant next door, they discourage bringing your own food in or having something delivered from elsewhere. This is a pretty incredible pizza and beer oasis in rural indiana. It's well-known at this point, but it is still surprising to see the pizzas this place is throwing out there. From Fort Wayne and Indy it's centrally located with just over an hour drive and is a place that is definitely a must for a destination dining experience. The pizzas are crisp and offers high quality ingredients. The beers are a solid lineup as well. The inside is just a fun vibe with several places to dine, huge patios, and even a secondary restaurant at one end offering other food items besides pizza. We stopped here on a Saturday evening on our way home. The place was packed but the hostess assured us the wait would be 30 min which was nbd. So 30 min later we are seated (2 adults & 4 starving, grumpy kids). The menu was not large with few items. We wanted pizza but turns out the pizza is only served at the pizza joint CONNECTED to this restaurant. Wait... what?? It's same building but we couldn't order pizza. We traveled 45 minutes to Bad Dad specifically to try the pizza after having many friends rave about it. We split one, although we could have probably each finished our own. It was so good! The crust is tasty, thin and bendable, and I folded my slices like a good New Yorker would. I appreciate a place that doesn't use pre-made, pre-shaped crusts. Real pizza crusts are not uniform, and these are not. The appetizer selection is minimal. We went with the house baked bread, which after reading the description and an explanation from our server, we still didn't realize were basically breadsticks until they arrived. They were good, but we would have preferred a cheese or garlic butter sauce for dipping over the ice cold marinara. Next time we will at least ask that the marinara be warmed. Got to check out this jem of a brewery and it was all I thought and more! Bad Dad offers 12 home brewed taps that can satisfy even the "non IPA drinkers". Although the Sucker Punch, Crop Dust and Hoboken Hophead were my husband's preference, I found myself asking Tyler (the attentive and friendly bartender) for "another one" during our recent visits. I enjoyed the Training Wheels, for a lighter, easy to drink lager and I also found myself venturing into the Bodacious Blonde keg, where my tastebuds were equally pleased. The industrial design inside has a viewing area of the expansion to come and there is a spacious patio area for those that prefer the outdoors for their backdrop. I'm very excited to see this brewery grow in size and tastes in the years to come. read more
