One of the best blueberry scones and strawberry biscuits I have ever had! The iced Vietnamese coffee is a must-try! The coffee had the right acidity and flavor. Had their salads and they were fresh and fantastic! They are only open in the summer. You must stop by this hidden gem if you are ever in Ogunquit. Stop by before or after you hit the beach. This is my go to place when I visit Ogunquit. The atmosphere is chill yet not overly focused on pandering to tourists. It takes itself seriously as a coffeehouse and it should. The staff is New England-friendly, the food (mostly baked goods and breakfasts) are fresh and plentiful. My only qualm is that their egg sandwiches would gain from being more seasoned, but that's truly a matter of personal taste. read more

This is my favorite coffeeshop in Ogunquit! Having known the owner from when she opened a coffeeshop near Boston and grew that shop into one of the best in the area, tirelessly improving the pastries, food, tea selection and coffee/espresso beverages over the years, I was more than excited to see what she had in store for her new shop in Ogunquit. I was not disappointed! From the atmosphere details--recycling wood from her grandfather's barn to maintain a cozy atmosphere and using the same wood to employ a local designer to make furniture for the indoor/outdoor seating to the dog friendly waterbowl waiting out front and the Kornhole! and giant checkers set on the patio, it was an instant love affair. The coffee is great and the espresso makers are continually making better and better drinks as they learn tips from the owner, always there with a friendly smile. Baked goods are fresh from their kitchen. The variety of pastries was good, but there weren't a lot of simple choices, and mostly a variety of scones. I like scones, but just muffins and scones aren't the only pastries for me personally (even though the muffins and scones are very good), wish there were other choices as well. read more

Everything is solid or more for breakfast or lunch. For breakfast, the egg sandwiches are quite good, but the scones and biscuits are where they make their mark. The staff here is super friendly and seems to know everyone who walks in the door. The atmosphere is really comfortable and relaxed. It was a great way to start the day! The food was really fresh. I wanted to love this place but the staff was just so rude. One member of our party was in a wheelchair and they refused to hold the door. (Seriously. I've never had that happen anywhere else.) They got three of our orders wrong and wouldn't -- not couldn't, but wouldn't because "we need to keep our small bills" -- change a $50 at 11 a.m. in the morning, forcing me to go to a store to change it instead and come back with small change. And when I tried to complain to the manager, she just said "my staff is great" as if I was the problem for showing up. Ugh. Never again. read more

The place is cool with a hippie vibe. The parking lot is always packed and a holes park there and run into town taking up spots for real customers. The sandwich options are limited but OK if you are desperate to eat. Only chilled gazpacho available when it was 50 out and raining. Was desperate for a good breakfast after the bad B&B food. So we stopped at Backyard not knowing what to expect. WOW on the coffee, pastries, full breakfast and free wifi. My wife and I were roaming around Ogunquit when we stumbled upon BC. I grabbed my phone and said "lets see what my people have to say about this". After taking a gander at all the reviews I said this seems like a very competent coffee shop, let go give it a shot! Come to find out they are very competent; great coffee, great service. While the iced latte I ordered wasn't as bold or rich as I was hoping, it showed great balance and wonderful flavors. What I really appreciated was the coffee to ice ratio. A lot of places will over ice the latte and you end up with 5 sips. This one was perfectly iced. I deducted 2 stars for oddness. It didn't feel as comfortable environment-wise as I had hoped. I like to get my coffee and sit and enjoy it but I had this lets get going feeling. Also the preparation area felt unorganized and out of sorts. The simple syrup had no label and I just had to hope it wasnt water. It wasnt. But I had a 50/50 shot of it not being SS. Overall very pleased and next time we are in the area I will stop by again. read more

Food is good. I did have a gripe. I asked for an egg white breakfast sandwich and they said no we don't carry those. They were making the sandwich from a fresh egg and I said just leave out the yoke and they said they don't serve them that way. Its a silly thing but it kind of bugged me. Stopped in here on a whim to grab coffee to go and use the restroom. So glad we did, as we now know where we'll go for coffee EVERY time we're in the area. Love Backyard, it's my new favorite spot in OGT and totally family friendly. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and they even have a creative children's menu, which is basically unheard of in most places. The outdoor patio is well shaded and a great spot for lunch. These people are awesome. The shop is set up so nicely where you can stand back and read the board deciding what to have. Or you can be enticed by the yummy baked goods presented up front. The coffee is fresh, the food is made with care. The staff actually speak to you as a person, not a next in line. (They even speak French if you need it.) The bathroom is clean, the setting is light and airy. It's a great addition to Ogunquit. read more

I stopped in for breakfast and coffee on my way from Kennebunkport to MA on 7/12/2014. I had a bacon, egg and cheese on French bread that was delicious. It was made to order with a fluffy, omelet-style egg and bacon that was perfectly crisp. The cheese was good too (cheddar, maybe?). I had a regular iced coffee, and my only regret that the one size that's available was on the small side :) I will definitely go back to try their sandwiches, and I am also excited to try their cheese board with a nice bottle of wine. Best ice coffee in Ogunquit. (Been coming here for 10 years.) Muffins were pretty good. So were the breakfast sandwiches. Yogurt parfait was yummy but had some mushy blueberries which I had to remove. Staff was friendly and the place is adorable. They use sustainable products. Outside seating too. read more

What a disappointment..we are here visiting, heard they had homemade pop tarts. Went out of our way to visit..when we asked this snarky clerk..she said no. So I asked if they ever had made them she said didntshe is new (only worked there 1 year) really? I asked if "maybe" she could go out of her way to ask someone else. They had many years ago. If only she had maybe looked up, smiled and answered the question by asking a co-worker. I want her to know that I am over the situation but so sad that she needs to go through day after day so unfriendly, uninformative and unkind. I can't believe she has lasted a year. The staff is extremely nice and polite. The place looks great with the upcycled barn wood look and mason jars. Coffee is AMAZING, one of the best I've had.
