Decided to go back to Backwater for breakfast since I saw lots of menu items I wanted to try. This time was just as delicious As I entered, I was kindly greeted. The place was busy as people were enjoying breakfast on a Saturday morning. I was seated and looked over the menu. I let my server know what I tried before and asked for a recommendation. She hi-lighted their BOSS HOG. I ordered and she brought me coffee as well. This menu item was incredible. The presentation was amazing. Provolone stuffed sausage with balsamic onions. Loaded cheese and bacon grits with a sunny side up egg. WOW Check out the food pic! I enjoyed the Boss Hog as much, if not more than the Bayou Benny I had last time. Cool menu, hipster decor, (and patrons) and food was great! I had eggs Benedict with fried green tomato and kale under the poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Among one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while! Several tables include a griddle built into the table for patrons to cook pancakes. I was at one and although didn't order pancakes thought it's a cool aspect! Our table could fit 6 people and there was enough room for everyone to flip their own pancakes. I loved the seasonal choice of funfetti batter along with their lemon poppy seed batter. The batter that you choose comes in a squirt-able bottle that can make about 6-8 pancakes. You have the choice of choosing toppings on the side and putting them in your batter as it settles on the griddle. I had the Boss Hog and it was delicious. Three other people in our party also loved their food. I did not know what to expect with the cheese stuffed sausage. It did not have a ton of cheese in the sausage; I didn't really notice the cheese in the sausage , but the grits were certainly cheesy. Yum! We waited 35 min at 11:00 am for a table for 4 at a non-griddle table. They will not seat you at a non-griddle table if you will not order pancakes. At one point there were 3 griddle tables open and we could not sit there. The griddle tables did fill up eventually after we were seated. It was just a bummer to see those 3 tables and not be allowed to sit there. The food is worth the wait! read more

This is a highly rated brunch place in Melbourne which we decided to try on a Sunday morning. It's located in the downtown area so the immediate parking outside is parallel parking only. There is a free public parking lot a block or so away if you can't find anything on the side streets. We arrived around 11 am and checked-in. The check-in process was surprising since we could not leave our number for them to text us when the table was ready. They had us just enter our names on a screen and that was it. We requested a griddle table since we wanted to try it. The wait was long, it was 60 minutes at the time we got there but we killed time by walking around with the dogs in the cute downtown area. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our wait time was up just in case the called our names early. We waited an additional hour for the griddle table. It was long but we were in no hurry and not super hungry. With the type of check-in system I can see how they could skip you so I think they should change this. There food and service was good but we felt rushed to leave. The food was good but was it worth the wait? Maybe? I've been just as happy eating at generic chains like 'A Broken Egg' or Keke's but then again they also don't serve alligator. So if that's what you want then be prepared to wait. Try and it let me know what you think. I gave it 3 stars for the long wait times and lack of updated and accurate means of letting customers know when their table is ready. Like moths to flame, people flock to this restaurant now that it has a second location. Every single time I have been here, it's been blech. So bad in fact that the owner had to call me to ban me from his downtown location. However, as The Bard wrote, "...the truth will out." Upon entering I was greeted by Shellene, the only hostess I've ever met with a bad attitude projecting negative energy in tidal waves. Talk about your auspicious beginnings! After being shown a table and handed a menu, I started looking for something I thought would be palatable this time. Before too long, a delightful young lady by the moniker of Leah approached my table like a breath of fresh air. She has the server gig down cold and is nothing less than a professional. Kudos, Leah! I asked Leah for some Shrimp & Grits, The Boss Hog and an order of the Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes. Still trying to shake the poisonous vibe sent my way from Shellene, I took a few pictures of the joint and awaited Leah's return. Within the acceptable time, Leah did indeed return with my fare. Snapping the obligatory pictures (LOOK AT THEM), I proceeded to get my Big Boy on. The first dish to cross my discerning palate today was the order of Shrimp & Grits. At least that is what I ordered. I'm pretty sure I got Shrimp & Grits soup. Seriously, look at the picture. That is a bowl of soup no matter how you ladle it. Next up was the Boss Hog. It consists of provolone stuffed rope sausage atop balsamic onions and cheese grits. Topped with bacon and green onions with a sunny-side-up chicken embryo, it sure reads great on the menu. However, you don't come to a restaurant to read about food, you come to eat food and this was practically inedible. How does sausage come out soggy? Easy. It's not cooked properly. Sausage is not to be prepared any other way than well done with an internal temperature between 160-165 degrees Fahrenheit (depending on the meat). Not only was this undercooked, but the taste was off as well. It smelled OK, so I don't think it was rancid, but it certainly was not fresh. Thankfully, I was about to sample the last dish, my order of Lemon Poppy Seen Pancakes. While the pancakes looked delicious, I found them to be drier than the Sahara desert. If the sausage was undercooked, the incompetent buffoon running the grill made up for it by overcooking the pancakes. Seriously, it's not that difficult to make an edible pancake. When it starts to bubble and the edges turn slightly brown, you flip it over... The only word I can use to describe the owner of these two establishments is fraudulent. This dunderhead has a chalkboard (see the picture) that leads one to believe that he sources his own ingredients; however, that is illegal in the state of Florida and everything he gets is from our friends at Sysco.
