You have numerous choices of batter which also includes gluten free. We all made our own pancakes as well as having their pulled pork Eggs Benedict, mimosas, and Bloody Mary's. Came here on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. We did the rainbow pancakes with a few different toppings with eggs and bacon on the side and I also ordered an omelet. Everything was tasty and the staff were friendly and attentive. I feel like pancakes are sometimes flavorless, but these were delicious. Whatever they put in the batter made them quite flavorful and it was a lot of fun making pancakes together as a family. I would like to try a different flavor next time (the lemon poppyseed sounds amazing). Our server recommended toasting the coconut before pouring on the batter and using the syrup to brule the bananas on the griddle. That was a game changer, for sure. i really love their food and it's always great but i find it funny how when the kitchen is too busy they can't just cook the home fries on the grill for someone who has a gluten allergy or CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE ORDER to tell us that they would be fried in the same oil as everything else to ask if we wanted to change the side, instead we get there and she says "sorry we fried it in the same oil but here you go" basically, so i find it a little ridiculous that we have been there multiple times and had them do home fries on the grill but this time it was "we've never done that" because you don't want to, or it's too busy, i'm sorry it's your job. This has nothing to do with the people that served me the food they were great but i've worked in restaurants and i can tell when a cook says they don't ever do something because it's too busy for them so they don't care. read more

Concept is good, Biscuits and gravy were good, coffee so so. Service was decent but to have the grills, where you cook you own pancakes, hot before anyone sits down is a critical mistake. We saw zero signs, just the hostess telling us it's hot, which if your 5 year old isn't listening, which many aren't, they are going to touch the grill, which we saw happen. Our grill actually stopped working mid breakfast, it somehow got unplugged, grill went cold and had to wait 3 mins to warm back up. 3 mins, not a hour. Keep the grills off until people order, such a danger to just have them going all the time. If a kid runs to a open table and touches the grill they will get burned- sever. read more

Absolutely amazing place. I ate at the downtown Melbourne location and got take out from the location next to Pineda. Place was absolutely packed, service was still fast. The food was well priced and you are getting your moneys worth. I got the fried green tomato breakfast with the poached egg and hollandaise on an English muffin with a side of loaded grits. Everything was to die for! Overpriced, small portions and odd flavor for what you get. First I got the pulled pork Benedict. Egg was undercooked with raw egg in center before the yolk. Pork was way too sour and I like South Carolina style bbq. I could eat more than a couple bites. So I ordered the ribeye sandwich after to try something else. Sandwich comes with a wierd slaw, so I opted for the 2.50 upcharge of fresh fruit. The fruit was hard and not ripe, there was a hair in it too. I was expecting a normal sliced ribeye steak sandwich, the menu doesn't say it's simmered in a brown sauce, like you find In a crockpot dish. Flavor was good but way too much oil and for 17.50 I wouldn't reccomend it. Not coming back and I would tell others to avoid it. Lots of options for breakfast in the area. Nothing special about this place other than cook your own pancakes for kids. read more

My first impressions of Backwater are the servers are attentive and willing to explain the menu. Service is very good. I ordered the Cuban Benedict and be aware there js a strong vinegar taste that over powers the taste of the pulled pork. The pulled pork is heavily marinated in Apple Cider vinegar that gives a strong sour after taste. I couldn't continue eating the pulled pork that I sent it back and ordered something else. I gave the 2 stars for the Cuban pulled pork. I give the service a 4 star rating. The staff was nice to replace my Cuban Benedict with another dish. read more

I used to enjoy going for breakfast. I like that they have vegan pancakes but probably use soy milk which isn't healthy per the research. Things changed when someone i know who applied here and was a 15 or 20 min. late for an interview. She could not help the accident not her fault. Instead of asking why she was late the server said since you're this late she won't see you. I don't think that's a good policy and puts a bad taste in my mouth read more

Just like their Melbourne location, they do have some tables with griddles to allow you to make your our pancakes. In particular I love their pull pork eggs Benedict. We love Backwater and the lack of 1 star has nothing to do with the food or service, both were amazing at lunch, as always. My complaint is they either need to print new menus or use electronic menus. When we got the bill, my food was over $3 more than the menu price and my husbands was around $2 more. We eat out frequently and also buy groceries so we are fully aware of the rising cost of food and wages and don't mind paying more to eat out, and a few dollars isn't going to break the bank. I just think we should know what we are paying when we order. What if we were on a tight budget? It would be a rude awakening to get the check and have it be over $5 more than expected. I ate here with my family 3 weeks ago for breakfast. The food was pretty awful. My grits were so thick and 2 pieces of hair in them. My omelet tasted old and flavorless. And the batter for the pancakes was just plain gross. Even my kids hated the batter. The manager didn't give a crap about the hair in my food and wouldn't do anything in return except took $5 off the bill (still was $45 for 3 people For breakfast). I was in customer service 35+ years, and even if your product is lacking, (which it wasn't by any means), you can make up a lot of ground by how nice you treat your customers. An interesting place to have breakfast, as some of the tables have built-in grills in their middle so that you can cook your own pancakes. This is fun, but be aware that the grills are extremely hot and make the table area hot too. The food was good, the coffee was good also.
