Truly, I am back in action after my treatments. I was really worried after I had slipped and fallen on some wet leaves, and my right leg got thrown beneath and behind me. As of 10.18.07 I've since returned to my dancer -friendly/dancer-savvy chiropractor and have received professional care. He took an inordinate amount of time to assess my problem. He handled me gingerly, listened, and overall was much more sensitive in his approach to my condition. His adjustments and guidance have been helpful in my recovery. Also worthy to note is that Dr.Feldman attends regular training seminars, and the entire facility periodically holds appreciation day for their clients/referrals. My faith has been restored. The following review is from 2006: Caution: He's going to do what he wants. He's a very personable fellow that Ethan Feldman. He cares a great deal about his work, and particularly working with dancers. My adjustments have helped for the most part. The care is educated and well-executed. He answers listens/questions to a somewhat lesser degree. What really upset me was when I came in just after a severe inflammation of a recurring back strain. I just wanted him to assess the problem while it was "fresh" so to speak. I told him I was in great pain and did not want any adjustments yet. During a test for range of motion, he abruptly pushed me further into an adjustment without my consent, or even a warning. Following this visit, the pain from the previous week was renewed. The Back in Action staff are like my warm, supportive, extended family...they take care of me when bad drivers hit my car and hurt my back (which seems to happen a little too frequently for my taste), when I pull and re-pull a muscle in yoga, or when my good ol' genetic scoliosis starts acting up. There's Ethan Feldman -- the chiropractor who uses very gentle yet effective techniques. No scary neck-cranking here (and believe me, I've had chiropractors do that to me before and pull all sorts of muscles). He's also starting to use this strain-counter-strain technique that has worked wonders on my abductor muscle, which I had pulled four years ago and was only getting worse and full of scar tissue. Dr. Feldman likes to work holistically, so tell him all of your symptoms -- you'll be surprised at the connections in your body and how he can help. Susan Feldman -- she does amazing cranio-sacral therapy that has helped me immensely -- both emotionally and physically -- after my various car accidents. Sandy -- the office manager -- who is so organized and efficient I think I will vote for her for President in 2008. You know how you go to a doctor's office and ask questions about your insurance or some arcane billing issue, and the person at the front desk won't know what you're talking about (even though it's their job to handle billing and insurance)? Sandy is the complete opposite. When I called her a few weeks ago to ask what the current rate for a chiropractor adjustment was to plan out my next year's medical expenses for my employer's health care flexible spending account, Sandy called me back and left me a message not just with the rates -- she had gone into my files and looked up how many visits I had last year and calculated the total costs for me! I'm a distance runner and I have had to basically quit running due to a chronic hip problem I've had for almost seven years. I've seen numerous physical therapists, chiropractors, and orthopedists for the problem- none was able to give me lasting relief, and they all recommended that I stop running. I often had trouble sleeping and walking because of the pain. I've been seeing Dr. Davison for a few months (about 12 sessions), and I am now training for a half marathon PAIN FREE. The doctor has NEVER told me to cut down on running, the exercises I need to do outside of appoints are minimal, and I have received two free sessions- one for my birthday and one after a flare-up. My roommate woke up this morning in so much pain that she was in tears. She is a student and without health insurance. It was 8 a.m. and I couldn't call around once I was at work. Luckily for me, it happened to be one of Back In Action's days where they open at 7:30 a.m. I spoke with Sandy, who was just the kind, sympathetic person I needed. She found an early morning appointment for my friend and encouraged me to have her speak with Dr F about possible financial arrangements. My friend's x-rays revealed that the discs in her neck were curved incorrectly, causing the pain. She was able to get treatment and right this moment is able to relax without anything like the pain of earlier today. As I was coming home from work and checking in on her by phone, the call waiting beeped. It was Dr F calling to check on her. Wouldn't it be great if more doctors had the bedside manner of the best chiropractors? (The exception, of course, is the wonderful Dr. Denise Davis of Berkeley, who is more warm and caring and human than any physician I have ever encountered.) Ethan was able to resolve a painful jaw condition from a skiing faceplant that I'd suffered for more than ten years. Other chiropractors and massage therapists had been able to relieve it, but it always came back. It still flares up once every six months or so, but only for a day or two. Ethan is very careful and gentle; he never jerks me around or forces things. Sandy and the rest of the staff are friendly and professional; I almost never have to wait past my appointment time. His fees are also on the low side, and I can almost always get an appointment within a few days if I need to. read more

Ethan Feldman is both a great chiropractor and an overall good guy. After going to over a half dozen other chiropractors in my lifetime, non were able to alleviate my lower back pain. After doing an examinations Ethan determined that one of my legs was a little longer than the other and gave me a little lift for my shoe, almost overnight my recurring back pain that I had for over 4 years was gone. Ethan could have just kept treating me for lower back pain but instead found a solution that worked, and the shoe lift has made a giant difference in my life. I still use Ethan and have found him to be by far the best chiropractor I have ever had work on me. I would highly recommend him. The treatment I've received at Back in Action is excellent with Dr Robert Davison and Dr Ethan Feldman. Dr Feldman discovered that my neck was out of whack from an earlier accident. He identified squarely where the problem was. My treatment then followed with Dr Davison. Dr Davison provided expert care to help me recover from these injuries which were not cared for properly in the past. It is amazing. I've have an unusually good turning radius and my neck no longer hurts to turn my head to the left. which is kind of important for driving. Honestly, I would not have guessed it was possible to recover from this. Amazing what a talented professional in Chiropractic field such as Dr. Davison is able to do. A couple of years ago, my sciatica had gotten so bad that I nearly lost control of my leg. When my back went out, I couldn't move at all. I was bed-ridden for months. I had to slide myself on my forearms down the hall for fifteen grueling minutes to even be able to make it to the bathroom. I was considering surgery when I met Dr. Feldman. He diagnosed my herniated disc and explained that natural healing was possible by opening up the space in between the vertebrae. He showed me simple stretches, like having someone lift my legs off the ground, and even loaned me an inversion unit to begin the process. He guided me to recovery every step of the way. I didn't have to have surgery, and even more telling, I am now empowered when dealing with my lower back. The process was gradual, but well worth it. I am not one to write reviews but I felt that this was an important opportunity to inform others about this great resource in our community. I was in need of an adjustment for some time (mainly in my neck) and was getting more and more uncomfortable with my limited range of motion and aches. I have been to many healers and Dr. Feldman definitely has the healing touch. He is gentle and effective. He has peaceful energy and you can tell he is centered and connected. After my second visit I noticed an increase in my ability to smell--kind of like when everything opens up after a quick rain shower in the spring. After my third visit my sense of hearing was improved and listening to music was a treat--like hearing the music again for the first time. And of course, he took care of the crick in my neck as well as some back kinks. After a few visits he did not have me come back again right away (or indefinitely as the stereotype for chiropractors goes). I recently got a set of orthotics from Dr. Ethan Feldman at Back in Action that have greatly changed how I cope with a fallen arch and the constant soreness and pain it causes. They've made an enormous difference in how I live with a permanent injury. Walking is now much easier. I have more energy at the end of the day, it's now also easy to sit in a comfortably erect posture, and my sleep is a lot better. I can actually stretch out easily and comfortably in bed without having to fall asleep curled up in a ball. These are big, big improvements in my quality of life. My injury demands a lot from orthotics and these seem better-made than any i've had before. They do, however, take a while to come from the company. That being said, they are the sixth pair of customized orthotics I've had since being diagnosed years ago and I finally feel I have what I need to enjoy a more pain-free life. Dr. Feldman was highly recommended by a friend to treat my incredible back pain after a fall. I'd never been to a chiropractor, but decided to give him a try. Dr. Feldman told me that my pain was very atypical, but he thought I might have a spinal fracture and should get further tests (my doctor had told me no bones were broken). He wrote to my doctor and was, I think, responsible for my getting the MRI that confirmed a progressive compression fracture for which I've finally gotten treatment. I believe that without Dr. Feldman's advocacy both doctors would have ignored my pain. Clearly, Dr. Feldman is an honest practicioner who can refer as well as treat. read more

Dr. Ethan Feldman and Susan Feldman are life savers!! Found out I had a ruptured disk in my lower back and was surviving on vicodin and motrin for 8 months with things just getting worse and worse. Last Thanksgiving it got to the point where I couldn't even get out of bad without help, the spasms in my back were that bad. After one visit I was able to bend forward more than I had been able to in months. After 6 weeks I've improved more than I thought was possible and I haven't had a single back spasm in more than a month. Everyone that works in the office is also extremely nice and supportive. Anyone with serious back problems should seriously consider seeing Dr. Feldman for part of their treatment. read more

I've been to several chiropractors for my back problems, & for the most part, they all solved the problem. Still, the problems kept recurring. One Saturday, I was in so much pain, I called my chiropractor for emergency help, but only left a message & got no response. Desperate, I looked for other chiropractors near me, & found Back-In-Action. By chance, they happened to be there on a Saturday & told me to come in. Dr Feldman greeted me, examined me, & made a few adjustments. I felt better immediately. In my experience, this is normally where the chiropractor takes your money & sweeps you out the door, but not Dr Feldman: He spent time showing me charts & explaining very completely *WHY* I was having these problems & what I should do to prevent them in the future. He also put me on an inversion table for two minutes, & recommended I get one for my home, (which I did, & used it for one minute twice a day.) I went back a few times more after that, and the improvements were *amazing*. That was about three years ago, & I've never needed to go back to the chiropractor. Dr Feldman is far & away the BEST chiropractor I've EVER been to. His kind attention & eye-to-eye communication are what released me from a lifestyle of pain. Okay, so I felt a little funny writing this review for Back in Action and hesitated at first - why? Because I've known Ethan and his office staff for nearly twenty years and he is, in fact, the ONLY person I let adjust my back. So I thought maybe I would sound a little biased, just a little, since I trust him completely to sort my spine out when it twists against the pressures of the world. When I first came to California I had been dealing with the after effects of a back injury from a horse and had accepted the fact of sheer physical limitation in my life as payback for playing with horses in the first place. Well, after Ethan started working on my back my entire horizon of possibility opened up for me: I can't say that going back to school and getting a graduate degree, delivering two children, and having a successful teaching career is a direct result of good chiropractic care, but wait a minute, why not? To be honest, I can't imagine having gone through all these experiences without feeling comfortable and confident in my own body, in my own physical flexibility and abilities and this is a direct result of the ongoing care, responsiveness, concern and support from Dr. Feldman and the Back in Action staff.
