Lahaina Fried Chicken with spam fried rice
Donna A.

My kids and I dined in on Sunday, October 4, 2026. We enjoyed all the food we ordered. Our favorites are there Lahaina, fried chicken and spam fried rice. I especially love their Chinese chicken salad with Lahaina fried chicken always hits the spot, especially if you're on a special diet and not eating too much carbs. service is always great. We were blessed to be served by Madeline. Ambiance is also great. Felt like we were back in Hawaii with all the local folks eating there. If you're craving some local grindz, definitely Back Home in Lahaina will satisfy your craving.

Review #1015 2026-085 Food Order: Back Home Sampler (Lahaina fried chicken, kalua lumpia, wontons, grilled beef stix, Filipino lumpia, spam musubi) Hawaiian Nachos (wonton chips, Portuguese sausage, jack & cheddar cheese, tomatoes, green onions) Beef Stew Curry (rice) Fish & Chips (macaroni salad, french fries) Kaibi Short Ribs Entree (macaroni salad, ramen cabbage salad, & rice) Kalua Pork (macaroni salad, ramen cabbage salad, & rice) Keiki Meal (Lahaina fried chicken, french fries, lemonade, ice cream sundae) Lahaina Fried Chicken Entree (macaroni salad, ramen cabbage salad, & rice) Lahaina Wrap (Lahaina fried chicken, ramen cabbage salad, Back Home special sauce, spinach tortilla) with Fries Lau Lau (macaroni salad, ramen cabbage salad, & rice) Saimen Noodles with Spam (kamaboko, egg slivers, green onions) Spam Musubi Haupia Cheesecake Jello Cheesecake Hawaiian Iced Tea Long overdue review... I've been coming to Back Home in Lahaina in the early 2000s since I started working in the South Bay. With our frequent visits, we were given loyalty stamp cards that earned 3 free rewards after reaching a designated tier: beverage, appetizer, & entrée (usually redeem the Lahaina Fried Chicken Entree) or t-shirt. In the early 2010s, we changed our dining time to their "Kids Eat Free on Wednesdays" after H turned toddler, & brought our friends with kids too. While the longstanding promo is no longer active, they occasionally run holiday or event-based kids eat free specials. Their Keiki (kid's meal) Menu includes: main entrée, side, drink, & dessert... it's a great value for the amount of food! I first learned about Back Home in Lahaina from my bank supervisor who lives in the South Bay. Her family loves the authentic Hawaiian comfort foods, particularly the addicting Lahaina Fried Chicken. It's famous for their slightly sweet, light & crunchy chicken. I love adding a splash of NOH Hawaiian Hot Sauce for a l'il heat! There's 2 specials (Beef Stew Curry, Fish & Chips) that I often order when I see it on the menu. And I always order the curry... love the Japanese-inspired curry roux base with mild heat! Usually posted in the late fall & winter, it's the perfect comfort food to counter the chill! When my husband is hungrier than norm, he'll either add an order of Hawaiian Nachos (they use wonton skins as chips instead of tortillas), or replace the entrée with the Back Home Sampler, which has a bit of everything. We've ordered maybe 1/2 of the menu over the years? Sticking to our favs, & adding other items when we're dining with guests. Their entrées are large enough to share between 2 people, & have been doing so in later years whereas I was hangry enough to eat the whole plate on my own. If you still have room for dessert, Haupia or Jello Cheesecakes are both delish to end your meal. I like the former; it's creamy yet light with a delicate, rich coconut filling. The kiddos love the latter for the strawberry jello that adds a sweet bouncy punch of flavor to the tangy cheesecake. The 1st decade's food & service was excellent, & we dined in so much that we knew most of the servers & can ask for "our usual" before we are seated. The timing is almost seamless from entry to our order to paying our check. Our servers were detailed-oriented to make sure everything is in place after serving our food (extra plates & napkins, necessary condiments), refilling our water with no/little prompts, & bringing our check quickly with necessary boxes when there's leftovers. However, the 2nd decade had its ups & down, especially during the pandemic lockdown (the once spacious dining room was awkward & warm with the plexiglass partitions). Gone are our fav servers, loyalty stamp card, & "Kids Eat Free on Wednesdays." What really kept us from returning often is the lack of consistency in food & service. If we're taking an early dinner around 5:30 PM, sometimes we have to wait awhile because there's no host(ess) at the counter. There may be times when we're seated & there's no server around, or I'm waving the menu to catch their eye. Then there's order execution issues: waiting period from our order to expedition time, not everything is served the relatively the same time, food quality (partly raw chicken, stale wonton chips, overcooked chicken tenders, etc.) & quantity (seems like there's a less?) issues. It's common enough to be a deterrent for frequent repeat visits. But when they're on point, it's the best bang for your buck value for a delish Hawaiian meal! Back Home in Lahaina serves some of the best Hawaiian foods around the South Bay. It's a vibrant community hangout, especially when they host live Hawaiian music (usually on Friday evenings) from regular local acts & guest feature artists! Mahalo! Recommended: Everything on the order list, especially the Lahaina Fried Chicken & Beef Stew Curry.

Hawaiian bbq chicken

Wonderful hospitality and cute gift shop. Chicken thighs were tender and flavorful (used a side of teriyaki sauce). A little underwhelmed by the presentation but it's chicken and rice so I guess I should adjust my expectations. Parking garage was full after the lunch hour but managed to get a quick spot but I could see this being a challenge during lunch time. Overall it was good but not sure I'd go out of my way to go back unless in the area.

Clean dining room, good parking, great variety, good local Hawaiian food good service, nice ambiance! The Luau platter has everything...kalua pork, lau lau, chicken long rice, lomi salmon, rice, cabbage salad, mac salad and dessert...haupia cheesecake!

Fried chicken entree

5/5 Seating and parking: lots of spacious seating options and there's street parking and a back parking lot 3/5 Chicken long rice soup: a little disappointed it was a little bland but did have a good portion size 3/5 fried chicken entree: this was also surprisingly bland. Very good crunch but not really juicy or flavorful. 3.5/5 macaroni salad: the most seasoned item I had 3/5 cabbage salad: again mostly the low rating just because it was very bland

Loco moco in forefront. Laulau on left. Lomi salmon on right. Hawaiian fried chicken in back.

I forgot to check-in but we just left there and are home now. Food hit the spot and husband who is from Hawaii praised them on the loco moco. Said it was the best one, yet, on this side of America. I had the Hawaiian fried chicken and attacked it that I had almost no room for anything else on my plate. I definitely recommend. Our server forgot to bring us our Portuguese sausage wontons but when he did, they were also delicious.

To start, you need to get the coconut haupia cheesecake. I do not like cheesecake, but this was the lightest, freshest, most wonderful dessert I ordered in 2025. I ordered just the plain haupia pudding, which I was eating outside. One of the guests told me I needed to try the cheesecake, and ended up buying me a slice when he went in to order his food. I am so so thankful for that man because it was really really delicious and I will definitely be back. This place is absolutely amazing. I got a takeout plate and some desserts, but I am so eager to come back to try more of the menu. I got the combo plate with beef, kahlua pork, and chicken katsu. It came with sides of potato mac salad and this AMAZING cabbage slaw that was dressed in an asian sesame vinaigrette. Every bite was literally addicting. I highly highly recommend the takeout for lunch.

If you're craving Hawaiian food, this place honestly is even better!! Big portions, traditional flavors, freshly made, affordable prices and the whole experience minus the costs of traveling to Hawaii! I love Hawaiian bbq, we came on Saturday afternoon for lunch and service is prompt and efficient, we were seated right away. Love the vibes and Hawaiian art on the walls. The kalbi short ribs were sooo good and a big portion of more than 3 ribs! The fried chicken is tasty and unique too, kind of a sweeter taste. Overall great place for traditional fresh Hawaiian food, highly recommend!!

I have been to Hawaii. A friend of mine won a give away by stuffing a ballot box at a grocery store, and then he gave me the plus one ticket. Was it a trip gotten via ill ways? Back then I did not think of that. And now that I do, I say the breeze of Hawaii would help anyone understand that what he did was a youth Indiscretion, like going for a swim in the cloak of darkness while only wearing a lei. Going to Back Home in Lahaina was not a trip back to the Big Island, I won't say that, but it was a moment of joy inspired heavily by a Hawaiian decor that both bordered on the tragically kitsch and the whimsically fun depending on where you stood or sat. But the true treasure of this Hawaiian micro-isle is their fare-- no doubt about that. After the meal my friend Conrad and I went to the front of the house, where they have the to go section. This is where the kitsch became most circus-y. Although, I did not clip everyhing, I did clip a make your own lei kit, hawaiian stickers, and other things that make the place feel like a tourist trap for Hawaiian hopefuls. For me, the tawdry lessened the impact of the Aloha I heard from the dining room. In sharp contrast, the main dining room had this mural of a whale coming out of deep blue water with Hawaiian florals on the edge of the land that was more transportive to the land where coconuts fall from palm trees and hula skirts are a must for every closet. The main room dining room also had these string lights and sphere paper lamps that made me feel like I was eating at a night market where I could see the stars of a Hawaiian skiy but it was both day time, and there was a roof above me. The food was the situation that needs to be address though, with great respect and admiration because almost every bite was supremely good. My friend Conrad and I first shared a Lahaina Platter- basically their appetizer platter or to be Hawaiian their pupu platter, and please do not go for the easy joke it is not that funny and really kind of base and gross, if the wrong person is making it. The must of the spot, unsurprisingly, is their Lahaina fried chicken. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and kind of like karage chicken but different with the spices and flavors and ocean fronts of Hawaii. I know I did not make sense but I gotta believe that Hawaiian culture made the dish great and Hawaiian culture is partly define by waterfront property. My favorite things from the dish were the Lumpia which are often described as Filipino eggrolls. The pork meat was flavorful, the paper wrapping was on point, like wonderfully thin yet still structurally strong, not crispy, more firm with crisp. The Cinderella story of the day was the spam musubi. The saltiness of the seaweed was present but not in an overblown way, the sweetness of their teriyaki sauce carried savory notes that uplifted the sweet notes, in a wonderful way, their sticky rice was textbook fluffy and fabulous. Overall, I would nitpick flaws. And for this review I do not feel like finding the wrong cracks on a whole coconut skin. My main dish was their bbq grilled chicken plate. I could not finish everything at the restaurant. I had cold left overs at home and they hit the spot in this way that really earned my respect, because cold left overs still holding strong that is like seeing a shooting star while you enoy Mai Tais in a white beach---- living the improbable dream. What was best out of the bunch was their Lahaina chicken. And again, even though the fried goodness had withdrawn, the flavor and textured that remained was still, in a way, intact and in some ways optimal. I just shivered admitting that. I was happy with the food overall, and want to communicate that it was a strong showing for a place that sits within a strip mall. Do not just a shore by the lack of its crashing wave sounds. I also love the name of this place. Like I went back to Lahaina, has personality. Like it is a name that drips from the tongue even though it is long. Pluis, saying multiple times in a conversation makes the place feel important. Conrad had some cheesecake with jello and he loved it. I did not try it, but it was unique and I did not think such a dessert existed. The crust was walnut, I would have thought it would be Macadamia. I definetetly love this place and want to back again soon!

It sure did hit the spot. The food was very good. I haven't been here in a great while but I do remember the short ribs being a little meatier. Nonetheless it was still good. The spam fried rice is a meal by itself. Hawaiian BBQ/Island cuisine at its finest here. I would day it taste like back home in Lahaina. The service was good. Our server came by often and everything came out in a timely manner. It was full but not too packed for a Sunday. I'll be going back sooner than later. The rest rooms are always clean and there's plenty of them.

The food is great. I love the appetizer platter. Great cakes. Live music this Friday. Disappointed there's no draft beer on a Friday night. Service was a little slow. I love that they have a Togo side and dine in side. Free covered parking in back. Coconut cheesecake was tried and was very very good.

This place is located in a plaza so there is plenty of parking. I love the vibes inside. It felt like beachy/Hollister type vibes. The staff was very nice and prompt. Their menu and portion sizes are massive. This is what we ordered. I ordered their poke plate. It comes with three sides usually comes with rice Mac salad or you can substitute for a Chinese chicken salad, which is what I did and a side of fries this plate was awesome, but the dressing that comes with it is a little too powerful kind of like that wasabi mustard type of dressing I'm pretty sure they have other options but next time I'll know my friend ordered one of their combo plates, which was also huge massive portions with the meat, a wonton soup and the appetizer sampler. The fried chicken that came with the appetizer sampler and the combo plate was phenomenal. It was like a cross between Filipino chicken, adobo and fried goodness and I've never had anything like it and I highly recommend it if you're looking to kill your hunger love big portions & comfort cooking This is the place for you probably one of the top tier Hawaiian places I've been to so far.

Is there a place to eat with a pet?

I believe the outside sitting there belongs to the pizza place next door, so I think probably not! But since the pizza place was really a sit down restaurant, you might be…

Parking was easy, and when we walked in, there was only one occupied table. Three employees were chatting in the back. We were greeted, but it felt more like, "What would you like?" than "Welcome in." No smile, no conversation, no thank you--just a transaction. After taking our order, the employee returned to chatting with coworkers. When our order was ready, our name was called, the halo-halo was placed on the counter, and that was the end of the interaction. As for the halo-halo itself, my partner rated it a 2/10. It was overwhelmingly sweet and overpriced for what we received. We were hoping for layers of flavor and nostalgia but got a sugar rush that could probably power a small city. As a business owner myself, I understand that customer service is one of the biggest drivers of customer retention. Great products can bring people in once, but great service brings them back. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark on both. The good news? These issues are fixable. A little more warmth, engagement, and hospitality would go a long way. Until then, we'll continue our search for our next favorite halo-halo spot.

I don't usually have much of a sweet tooth, but tonight I was craving for something along the lines…read moreof ice cream, but less sweet. I'm glad that Yelp recommended this place to me! The mango bingsoo was so good. I'm usually a savory foods girly, but I love the "not to sweet" sweets just like this bingsoo! It was my first time here and definitely not the last. The texture of the ice caught me off guard in a good way! It was like soft, but also still had a good "bite". I never had fresh snow before, but this is what I would imagine the texture to be like. It's milky ice, but in the best way possible. It's not icy at all. It's like soft and pillowy. It made me want to keep eating it. The mango sauce and mango cream on top was really good too. At first when I looked at the bingsoo, I'm not going to lie, the presentation looked a bit underwhelming at first, but there's a generous amount of mango chunks around the middle of the bingsoo. The mango chunks were soft and sweet! Honestly it was soooo good! My husband and I ended up sharing the shareable size together and we were able to finish it without a problem! I'm already craving it again as I am writing this review lol! The portion size is actually good. I love how they give a mountain of the ice and not have it flattened out. I also liked how milky the bingsoo was. It also didn't melt too fast, which is a plus. I was actually able to indulge instead of scarfing it down. Now I wish this place was closer to me as I'm from the Bay Area! I would probably eat this everyday if I could lol! It does get a little messy, like sticky so make sure you have napkins! I also kind of wish they had some topping options like mochi bits, condensed milk, sago, or mango popping boba lol or an option for extra cream! Oh and we arrived around 9:30pm. Not too long after we arrived, the place was packed! They do have a parking lot, but parking is quite limited and it's only like 20 minute and 30 minute parking.

Review #998 2026-068…read more Lychee Berry with Crystal Boba $6.58 Large Strawberry Mochi Shaved Ice (served w/strawberry bunny jello, mochi, fresh strawberry, house special strawberry puree) $11.71 Formerly Get Shaved, Boba Bunny Coffee & Tea takes over with a stylish pink-themed dining space & IG-worthy shaved ice with cute jiggly animal jellos. The boba shop is located on the northwest corner next to Dentist of Old Torrance with plenty of parking. The shop's dining space is mostly of 2-tops that can be adjusted to seat larger groups, with a unisex restroom is in the back. There's a corner to the right of the entrance with a Boba Bunny neon sign & powder blue scooter that's great for taking pics! I first learned of the shop via Toast last year when they offer a $2.00 birthday treat. My son has tried most of the local boba shops so I wanted to see how this ranks on his list. The menu is pretty extensive for its size with: fresh fruit teas, blended fruit/smoothies, fruit yogurt, fruit mocktails, premium milk teas, pure teas, cheesy bunny teas, tea lattes, ice milks, coffees, toppings ice creams, build your own (bubble) waffle, bubble waffle combo, churros, shaved ice, hot sandwiches/paninis, toasts, croissants, rice bowls, salads, munchies, add-ones... whew! There's also collectible boba bear bottles that's refillable; I don't think the refillable bottle is more than their large drinks unlike some other shops with refill options. Stopping by on a late Saturday morning, it was quiet. It took a few minutes to peruse their menu & I had a few questions since the electronic menu & kiosk didn't have a description of the ingredients. I ordered Lychee Berry with Crystal Boba, & M picked a large Strawberry Mochi Shaved Ice. It took a few minutes before my order was ready. I liked the Lychee Berry... it has a floral & sweet tart taste from the lychees & strawberries, with a moderate serving of crystal boba. The shaved ice was definitely IG-worthy! It's piled high with ice fluff & topped with fresh strawberries, mochis, & a strawberry bunny jello; their house special strawberry purée, a bit too sweet for my liking, is set aside to prevent diluting the shaved ice. The mochi is colored, but it doesn't taste flavored or fresh (in-house) made; fresh as in chewy & pillowy like a marshmallow. The jiggly bunny makes a fun pic (see videos)! M thought it was funny to tap its behind, & we had it angled so that it looks like it's eating a pink mochi. Hehehe... While it's creative to a certain extent & tasty, the menu is on the expensive side for the serving size. Service was positive since we were the only customers, though slow due to the order execution process. Alas, the location is not quite marketable even though there's high traffic from Ralph's. It's the same owner, rebranding the Boba Bunny to Phin Coffee a couple of months ago after 2 years as a boba shop, which makes sense since there was a special run 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a 20% discount on coffee & matcha before the transition.

I came by recently with some friends after dance class and we were all impressed. I tried the Biscoff Matcha Latte and it was fantastic. You can tell they use high-quality ceremonial grade matcha. The flavor is spot on. It's rare to find that level of quality in a specialty latte, and I'm definitely coming back just for that drink. I'm looking forward to trying their other matcha options next time! Also need to try their desserts.

Great for couples, family, and friend. If you have a foodie friend who doesn't judge on exterior but rather the taste, this is a worthy spot. The lady helping us allowed us to try different options until we landed on Thai tea, almond amaretto, riceberry horchata on The Special (3 flavors) on a waffle bowl. It was placed on coconut sticky rice. At first I raised my eyebrows but when I tried it, I was blown away how GREAT of combo this is! 5/5 I would go out of my way to try this. What I also love about this is that it isn't sweet like typical dairy icecream but just sweet enough like the true gelatos you have in Italy. You must at least try this with the waffle bowl - it was quite the delight. The portion is big and you'll be surprisingly full. The special (3 flavors) is best for 2-3 people (regular serving). If you're going to eat this by yourself I'd just get 1 serving or the gelato cup. Restroom? No Seating? No

Tried Moom Maam at Smorgasburg Los Angeles at ROW DTLA, the big Sunday pop-up food event downtown…read more The event itself was pretty cool, although a few of the vendors I was hoping to try apparently didn't show up that day. Luckily this was one of the stands that had good reviews, so I gave it a shot. Between the language barrier and my excitement for dessert, I somehow ended up ordering more than I planned. The ice cream was good and the Asian-inspired flavors were definitely different from the usual. It didn't completely blow my socks off, but it was a solid treat. I kept thinking a little syrup or extra topping would've taken it up another level. Overall, glad I tried it. Half the fun of these food events is randomly discovering stuff you normally wouldn't eat anyway. I'd probably check out their Torrance brick-and-mortar location sometime and give them another shot.

It's been three years since my last review so I figured an update is due. STILL my favorite matcha…read morespot and I have tried many around LA and OC. The quality is just amazing and I prefer the matcha profile here compared to other places. Another favorite is their hojicha lattes!! So umami and fresh and nutty. I'm addicted! Dare I say I might like it better than matcha?! Blasphemy right?! No no, that would be insane. I like them equally. Just depends on my mood. Also, I would like to think my review made them change their straws! They're much better now! Love a place that takes feedback seriously!

Yamari specializes in Uji matcha straight from Kyoto. [Parking]: The parking lot for Mitsuwa can get busy during the weekend, but it is not impossible to find an open spot. [Ordering]: There was no long waiting line and I was able to get my order within 5 minutes after placing an order at the counter. [Menu]: Yelp's top highlighted items are Iced Matcha Lattes, Strong Uji Matcha Green Tea (sweetened), and Stone Ground Uji Matcha (contains no sugar or milk). They offer small, medium, and large sizes for their drinks. In addition, they also sell hojicha drinks as well as parfaits and soft-serve ice cream. *** Strong Uji matcha green tea (sweetened - small $4.50): The matcha flavor was strong alright. The drink did hit the spot and the sweetness level was about right. Mixed Soft Serve (half matcha and half hojicha - $6.75): Ice cream had a strong matcha flavor, but the texture didn't hit the spot. It would be nicer if the flavor was slightly less dense as this ice cream really made me want to drink more water afterward. The milk chocolate was a nice add-on, but I am not sure if it was really needed. *** I would stick with their drinks and there are better soft-serve matcha ice creams in Los Angeles (e.g. Meccha Matcha in Artesia or Tea Master Matcha Cafe & Green Tea Shop in Little Tokyo).
