It's not the greatest BBQ I've ever had but it far from being the worst. The Pulled Pork and sauces are very good,but I've had issues with the ribs being extremely fatty.I like their side especially the corn and the fried cornbread. If you can catch it on a day it's being served their BBQ Nachos are great. They only serve it on a certain day,I'm not sure why it's not on the regular menu........it should be. You ho through a cafeteria style line to get your food which can be extremely long especially at lunch but usually moves pretty good. All in all I'd recommend Back Alley. read more

I'm from Texas where we pride ourselves on our BBQ. But I have to confess, this is the BEST BBQ I've ever had. My wife and I are on the way to Knoxville from Texas and we're too hungry to wait until Nashville to eat. So we ventured off the highway to Dickson to find someplace. We noticed the good reviews for Back Alley BBQ and decided to give it a try. I had the half rack of ribs that were to die for. My wife had the half chicken and loved the rich flavor. The cornbread (which I nearly passed on) was indescribably delicious. I've never had anything like it and its tastiness blew me away. If you are ever in Dickson or ever on that stretch of I-40 near Dickson, this place is well worth the diversion from your travel plans. You'll be grateful I urged you to visit this place. read more

We tried a little of everything...and it was classic good...brisket and pork sandwiches, half chickens. All hand crafted on site. The deserts were homemade like mama used to do it. There BBQ sauces need a little help, but used sparely does the job. The seating area is cheerful and friendly, easy for families with little children. This is hands down the best BBQ in the area. There are some other places closer to us that we like, but when company comes to town or we are just ready for excellent food we are more than willing to drive an hour to experience Back Alley BBQ. The pulled pork and brisket are moist and tender. The house BBQ sauce is a vinegar based sauce, which I am not really fond of in general. I love the meat with or without sauce. The sides are excellent as well. All made from scratch and delicious. In particular, I love the cornbread which is sliced, buttered and then fried on a griddle until it is warm and toasty. Desserts are also made from scratch and very tasty. The only thing that I wish they would do different is be open all the time. The hours are a little different as they close at 2 PM and re-open at 5 PM. The locals have this figured out and there is often a small line at 5. Don't miss out on this if you are anywhere in the area. read more

The BBQ was above average and could compete with any Nashville/Memphis joint. But the brisket was way above average. Probably the best I've had yet. If you don't know what to choose, ask for a sampler. It's not on the menu but you get 4 meats and 2 sides. My only complaint is that they still use styrofoam for their cups and Togo boxes. The food and atmosphere was great. Loved the cornbread. We both had the brisket. I had the plate with two sides. For the plate the price is too high 15.00, when you compare it to most good BBQ places in the surrounding areas. He got a pound of brisket and two sides for 20.00. It would have been a better move for us to get the pound, split it and both got two sides. That way it wound have come to 12.00 a plate. Still great food, just too pricey for how much you don't get on the combo plates. read more

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, food & friendly staff. If you live near by or are just passing through I believe this is worth the stop. The brisket had a good ring on it and juicy, pork had a good crust but was pulled at the right time, the cornbread that is baked and then fried is a genius idea, potato salad was great too. I believe you need to get there early and monitor their open hours so you don't miss out. I also had a bite of their meatloaf and it was good too. Next time I come to Dickson I will stop here. Ate there today, Saturday, 3/8/2019. People was awesome, nice clean place, food was so so. Based on today's experience with the food, I wouldn't eat there again. The baked beans tasted like bushes baked beans out of a can, good but you'd expect better in a Bbq restaurant, and the potato salad was very "Soupy", and not very good. BBQ ribs were pretty good and my wife said the pulled pork was pretty good. Choices of sauces could be improved, I had a spicy BBQ sauce which was good and only other sauce was a vinegar like sauce. My wife doesn't like spicy and she didn't like the other one. read more

This did not disappoint, the service was fast and the food was excellent. Sweet tea and lemonade made for a great Arnold Palmer. I couldn't eat all of my pulled pork. Brisket. The hardest meat to get tender, moist, and flavored. Back Alley BBQ nailed it. Perfectly smoked, sliced to order, and included a burnt end (if you wanted it). The brisket was on point and as good as any brisket I've had. The sauce offering is good, but not needed. Great meat comes with it's own sauce and added sauce isn't necessary. Back Alley BBQ understands this well. It's worth the drive from Nashville! The sides were good, homemade like, and I was happy with the baked beans and slaw. The only reason there isn't a fifth star is because the meat portion was too small. I know that beef prices are high these days, but I'd rather have smaller sides or pay a buck or two more. read more

My wife and I were in town from KC BBQ capital. We were really wowed as they had the whole package great meats and sides which is hard to find it all. I had the chicken, ribs and taste of the pulled pork with coleslaw and beans and my Wife have the chicken and ribs with green beans and corn pudding on and don't pass up the deep fried corn bread. I live in West TN and we have some pride in our BBQ. I tried this place because I was in town for lunch. It was the most incredible BBQ I've ever had. The flavor of the BBQ was spot on. First, the name is BACK ALLEY BBQ. Second, the food here is fantastic! Our family was in Dickson last weekend and plans at another restaurant fell through, fortunately. We walked around the corner to Back Alley BBQ and found one of the best BBQ joints I have been to. I love barbecue and have had it all over Texas, in St Louis, Kansas City, the Carolinas, Oklahoma, Florida and a lot of other places. This was the first time in Tennessee and we hit the jackpot with Back Alley. Ribs were well-charred but moist. Perfect! Pulled pork was excellent. Meat was high-quality. We all loved both sauces. Sides were all first rate - cole slaw, mac and cheese, potato salad. Plates come with fried cornbread which was something new, but good. And save room for peach cobbler and pecan pie. Yummy! Everything is made on premises from scratch and it is all excellent. And the staff is very friendly and proud of their food, which they should be.
