Horrendous customer service when attempting to book catering for 60 people. It took 4 attempts, beginning with filling out their website order form, phone calls, and an attempt at a personal visit, to gain any traction with the order. The person in charge of catering, the owner's wife, was at first unavailable and then dismissive and seemed totally uninterested in my business. One of the employees did her best to help. When I emailed to cancel the order because it was as "fun as banging my head against the wall." She replied "likewise." Really good Q in downtown Dickson. I had a plate with the pulled pork and Brisket. The brisket was juicy and full of flavor, the pulled pork was a little dry, but still flavorful. They have two types of barbecue sauce, mild and hot. I felt that the hot was too spicy and mild was fine, but both didn't really have the best flavor profiles and I also prefer a thicker sauce as these sauces were very thin. The baked beans were excellent and the star of the show. I also had the potato salad, which was very good. I would highly recommend NOT sitting at the outside tables like we did. The road noise was ridiculous! It seems that every other car had an exhaust that was obnoxiously loud and deafening to the point where you couldn't hear the person across the table from you. read more

Every barbecue place I go to, I always compare it with my barbecue. To tell you the truth, my pulled pork is better. The mac n cheese was just that. Could have used some panko on it to make it stand out. The cheese grits were okay. The banana pudding was okay but a little too sweet, and I have a sweet tooth. Service was fast, plenty of seats. Nice fast service. The tea was good. 10/10 for presentation. Currently operating out of temporary location due to remodeling. Merry atmosphere. Had the smoked chicken salad. Chicken didn't have much flavor and was room temp. Side of beautiful cornbread but it was sweet. Only option for dressing was maybe a homemade Catalina? Not sure not good for me or the hubs. The smoked pork was very good. More flavor and smoke than the chicken. He had the pork nachos which were pretty good overall with good topping options. I didn't care for the bbq sauce at all. I typically do not take time out of my busy day to leave reviews but in this case I feel like Back Alley BBQ has earned it.This establishment is super clean and tidy, first and foremost. The food is indescribable. I have ate BBQ throughout North America as I travel with Southwest Airlines. I know good BBQ when I taste it but this is honestly different. The rub they use is mouthwatering, something indescribable with words. The ribs omg the ribs are by far the best I have ever ate.The sides are fantastic as well! Wow! Great, local BBQ in downtown Dickson. We came due to a recommendation from a local and so happy we did. When I first walked into this place, I must say I was slightly skeptical, but so glad I was wrong. Super solid BBQ, good sauce, good sides, and amazing cornbread Simple, rustic decor, clean, no fuss, and homey. Service was good. Cafeteria style. We ordered combo plate of brisket, chicken, corn pudding, and green beans.... all plates come with their homemade cornbread (one of the best I've had!). The BBQ sauce came in original and hot (slightly spicy but not hot, great flavor). The brisket was my favorite! Everybody enjoyed it so much, we ordered in bulk take out a couple of days later. It was the weekend so we were able to try Mac and cheese... pretty solid. We didn't get to try their homemade pies, wish we had, it we're ever back in town it's a must! We saw the review of this restaurant on TN Crossroads and drove from Portland to Dickson to try it....won't do that again. I think all BBQ places are high but this one was even higher. The cornbread that they are known for was horrendous. It was as heavy as a brick and although it's been 2 weeks, I still can't find the words to describe how bad it was. The green beans had worchestire or something in them and was not pleasant in the pallet at all. The coleslaw tasted like the entire salt shaker was in our one serving. The young ladies working there were pleasant and the corn casserole was phenomenal. The brisket was dry and the chicken was down the middle of the road. This is the 3rd restaurant we've been to that was reviewed on TN Crossroads and only one of them we would go back too. This place is a BIG skip. read more

Another BBQ place was recommended to me but when I got there, they were closed. I had already looked at the reviews for here but didn't really want to come because I thought the pictures of the brisket looked dry. Since the other restaurant was closed, I came here. I got the 1/3 rib combo and a half order of the brisket to try it. The smoke was nice and the sauce is good but it was dry, just as I suspected from the pictures. Unfortunately the ribs were too. I did like the beans and the potato salad. The cornbread wasn't any good at all. I could hardly bite it. The peach cobbler was good. Loved the location in the downtown area. A few of us came here for a working lunch on a weekday at lunchtime and there was a line out the door to place orders. That line did go pretty quickly though, so it wasn't much of an inconvenience. We also scored a nice table in their backroom, where it's pretty spacious. Their menu consists of brisket, pulled pork, half chicken, and daily specials. On the day we went, the special was nachos, and they looked amazing. They have all the typical Smokehouse sides too. I tried a few: - Potato Salad - I don't typically like potato salad with pickles in it, but this was pretty good! The potatoes were partly whole and partly smashed, so I really liked the texture too. - Cole Slaw - really good, shredded cabbage, traditionally dressed. I really liked this and imagine it would be awesome on a BBQ sandwich! - Corn pudding - really good! Lots of sweet corn flavor and a nice filler added. For the protein, I chose brisket. It had an excellent bark, somewhat decent smoke ring, moderate smoke flavor. It wasn't dry, but it wasn't very moist. I thought it was really good, especially for TN, where I imagine they specialize more in pork. The sauce was really good! They had a regular and a hot and both were flavorful. But then again, I'm partial to tomato-based sauces and these hit the spot! The most impressive thing was the corn bread... check my pic! They fry it up in a skillet! How awesome!! It was traditional southern cornbread, definitely not sweet. But tasted really good with BBQ sauce slathered all over it! Finally, I finished with banana pudding... it was too sweet for me, but I totally appreciate what they did. It had Nilla wafers in the scoop of pudding, thus offering a nice texture to the merengue style pudding. Overall, I really liked lunch there and I'll definitely come back! Y'ALL! I am so glad I finally got to try Back Alley BBQ. As a West Nashville resident, I'm not over in Dickson very often, except maybe 3 times a month but I would consider driving an hour here every day for some of this brisket. Brisket is easily one of my top fave foods ever, especially when it falls apart and quite literally melts in your mouth. BAB does everything perfectly with it. The prices are too good to be true. I've had brisket at places where they only give you a couple pieces for like $15 without sides or anything. At BAB, you get a good pile of brisket, a side, cornbread, AND a drink for only $13. Like, how can you not go here for a deal like that? Long story short, sounds like I need to start making more trips out to Dickson soon read more

I have nothing but good things to say about Back Alley, the food is always quality and consistent every time I go. I haven't tried everything on the menu but I've gotten a few meals under the belt. Pulled pork is always good but the real standout for me is the ribs. These are cooked low and slow and I haven't asked them for the rub recipe because I don't want to be shot. These are my favorites, in my top three rib places of all time, including a place in Texas. Good side dishes, I like the baked beans and the corn chowder and the mac&cheese is fantastic. But I'm pretty sure its all made there, nothing out of a can or a box. Daily lunch specials on weekdays. What a great find. The smells from outside are very inviting. This is nestled on a corner and fairly open inside. A nice home feeling inside, the staff is very pleasant and helpful. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, macaroni and cheese was very good and the country green beans were definitively simmered for a long time and tasted as country as ever. The sweet tea was not overly sweet. There were several army men inside and it was warming to see. The bathrooms were very clean and the hand soap smelled amazing. I've been dying to try Back Alley BBQ for months after hearing about it on a news report's best bbq list. What a disappointment. Pulled pork: moist, but 0 smoke flavor. Not sure what wood they smoke with, but it sure hickory, apple,or anything else that gives flavor. Also, meat was cold/room temperature. Ribs: if there was a rub, it gave as much flavor as the smoke... none. Ribs were dry and overcooked. Over all, the flavor was a little like licking a chimney. Sooty. Mac and cheese: how could any Southern Bbq restaurant screw up mac & cheese? Pasta was overcooked. Cheese sauce had the flavor of spray can cheese and was gluey than wall paper paste. Only dimly bright spot were the green beans. They had a unique robustness that wasn't entirely vomit inducing. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. read more

Wow...so when they say a full slab of ribs they don't lie! The ribs are meaty and trust me, a full slab is enough for two maybe three people. The brisket is good but for me the ribs are the star of the show. Mac and Cheese was good, so was the slaw but Corn pudding is the way to go. The BBQ sauce is good and I needed it on the brisket, it was a bit on the dry side but still good. Go with the ribs and you can't go wrong! read more
