We were in Dickson for dinner reservations at Lugo's next door for our anniversary and had some time to kill first. Being that it was a Friday night after a hard week (and a celebration!) we decided to hang out at House of Brews for a happy hour first. I tried a few of the beers--one on tap (a homestyle IPA) and a couple in cans, the best of which was a caramel machiatto stout which I loved (pictured here). My wife prefers cocktails and/or wine, so she had one of each. We also had the salted pretzel. Prices are very fair, the beer selection is enormous, and my wife appreciated the numerous cocktail, well drink, and wine options. I saw many tables dining on pizza and pub food that all looked terrific, so the next time we're here we'll have the entire meal here. For one thing, this place has absolutely NOTHING for a vegetarian. Even their martini olives were awful, as was the martini (they may want to get some higher quality gin). This is not a place I would EVER go again, though we had a sweet waitress. It appeared to be just a place people go to just for alcohol shots. While walking back to the car after a business dinner, we saw this local bar and decided to give it a try for a drink before heading back to the hotel. The owner/manager (the guy behind the bar) was very friendly and helpful. He provided samples as needed. They offer some interesting drinks, brews and food... Much of their food is unique and so are many of their drinks. The place is very divey looking, but definitely has great appeal and is a place I could see visiting for a round of drinks, or more in the future. The food I tried, which was dessert, was amazing... I tried their fried Oreos and the batter was spot on... the ice cream it came with was a great match and outstanding! Prices are very good... and low here too! Been sorta craving a good burger and a Sam Adams recently and was in Dickson for the day, so I decided to stop by House of Brews with a friend for lunch. First time around, I had the Italian sandwich with tots, and second time here I got the mushroom burger also with tots. Stopped in for a late Friday dinner for take out. Wanted to support a local business while hone visiting family. Restaurant is more like a bar with food. Was packed solid and even more people arrived while waiting for my food. Honestly not my style of a place but if you like bars then ... So the food... orders garlic wings and a dude salad with no cheese but bacon bits. Wings were tasted but a bit fatty. Strangely they put the sauce on the side instead of on the wings. Salad was delicious but the bottom was filled with bacon bits. My sister ordered same meal but loved all the extra bacon bits. My mom ordered a burger - fried hard and too thin. Maybe I don't know a brioche bun because thus one looked like a regular hamburger bun. I will say my mom asked for no salt on her burger and tater tots and they accommodated. Depends on if you want to be in a crowded bar but as for me I'm heading to Buffalo Wild Wings next time. read more

The first rule of the House of Brews is if the waiter seeks a reminder of what you ordered two hours after you ordered, repeat it back to him carefully because he's high and he's forgot. He's not checking to find your order, he's entering it the first time. You won't get the right food if you don't take the time to reorder in full. He won't tell you he lost your order, because he's probably an addict and hoping you've had enough beers he can play it off with his cool hippie vibes - which are way so last century. Mostly you'll just want him to go away and find your order. He can't. That's why he's asking. And just as he forgot the order, you should forget the House of Brews too. This place is forgettable. The owner and his spouse seem more interested in talking to friends than running an establishment. The service is the most robotic, unfriendly, and unconscious I believe I've ever had. It's pubby, but everywhere in America does this same generic pub look, and honestly even Applebees has local beer. It doesn't even have a cool Dickson Downtown drawing point. It just exists and hopes you fall into the trap, like lemming over a cliff. The portions for appetizers are micro tapas style small. Be sure to order forks and plates when you order your appetizers because apparently that's an extra step for the server. When you ask it will clearly put them out that they have to provide what any other establishment would assume you need. My food was a disappointment - for a hamburger it was C- The bread was stale for sure, and it was the wrong type of bun. My friends all got wings. It's hard to screw up pouring sauce from a bottle over a small piece of chicken and shaking it - just be prepared to wait extra time for the dipping sauce to show up. Another significant amount of time. I'm pretty sure the House of Brews doesn't actually brew anything but sweet tea, so don't go in hoping to find a unique or interesting beer. If they have the brew, everyone else does too. I know some of you need me to say that because you come from sophisticated brew zones like Texas or Oklahoma, Georgia or New Mexico, and you'll want to go for the brews. Resist! Resist and turn back for all you will find here is disappointment. read more

Third strike...I'm out! I have gone to House of Brews three times since they opened. Each time...disappointing. It has gone downhill swiftly. Food options are severely limited and the quality is atrocious. Not sure how long this place will be open. Constant staff turnover, they change the trash in front of you while you try to swallow the trash they just put in your table, beer tastes old and Co2 blend is waay off. This place actually isn't a bad place to go, but there are many reasons why I can't rate it a 4. Their craft beer selection, for Dickson's standards, is fantastic. I wish they would have more variety in style beers on tap though (they mainly have dark beers. A sour or berliner would help as far as variety). Overall though, I was thrilled. The service was also great.... once we were able to actually get a table. This is a small place and not a lot of seating. My husband and I had to wait awhile for one of the bartenders to serve us. The first one decided he was going to continue having a conversation with a patron sitting at the bar as opposed to trying to help us, or any new person walking in for that matter. However, a second bartender working finally saw us and took our drink order. When it's the most happening place in the small town on a Friday night, you wind up standing for awhile. The server was friendly and attentive once we were able to get into a corner table. We ordered the wings and they weren't good. The hot sauce was fine but the wings itself I felt were on the softer side. I personally love my fried wings crispy, and not the softness of baked or broiled wings. I also ordered the chicken parm sandwich. It was less than desirable but not bad. Their Mac n cheese was delicious and there fried potato jalapeño balls were great. I definitely see a lot of potential with this place and will come back. However, I hope they could make some modifications and really turn it into a 4/5 star place. read more

Been here 2 times and food has been fantastic both visits. They have really good onion rings and the brew fries are not what you'd expect but they're delicious. Food comes out fast and correct, great portion sizes, loooots of space to sit at the bar too, and a ginormous selection of beers. Also TVs above the bar area. read more

So I told my parents that for their 40th anniversary my wife and I would like to take them wherever they'd like to go with the only budget constraint being sub-Catbird-Seat, and they wanted to try this place as it's fairly new and neither of them have been yet. My father is a sucker for trying new places when they have a good beer list. I like the location. For the last 12 years or so, Dickson has been putting a good amount of effort into revitalizing the "old downtown", and places like this opening up are a good sign. It used to be a depressing looking area but now it's starting to get that quaint old southern town feeling. For that alone, I'm happy to go a bit out of my way to support a place like this (assuming the food & drink are good, of course). So House Of Brews seems to basically be a nice beer bar that also happens to sell food and pour some select liquors. They have a fairly good number of tap & bottle selections, and the staff seem to be relatively knowledgeable about them. What I really liked was that they were happy to give tasting samples a tap offering for you to try before ordering a full pint. The menu is pretty standard bar fare; burgers, a few sandwiches, a half-pound hotdog, etc. and they also have some interesting appetizers, a couple of which we ordered. The beer cheese chicken nachos are pretty much what they sound like, and I thought they were quite good. The pork shank appetizer was rather unique and definitely had some novelty to it. Did you ever watch the Flintstones when you were little and want to try that meal they often ate that was just a hunk of meat with a bone sticking out? Then order the pork shanks! The fries this place offers are a cross between steak fries and curly fries, which I liked if for no other reason than the fact that I haven't been served a new shape of fried potato in some time. All in all the food was pretty good, and I can't think of anywhere else in Dickson that actually has a decent beer selection, so I hope this place does well. read more

I kept singing This song over and over again in my head. As the Eagles took the win, and The Pats left the field, the patrons Ordered another round or two. Clean bartop. Clean, cold beer mugs, Clean, fully stocked restroom (TP, paper towels, hand soap), friendly staff, inviting atmosphere. It's everything a functional irish style pub should be. After taking the day off and exploring downtown Dickson, we decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat. I had never been to any of the places in downtown Dickson before, so we figured we would try something new. We stopped in around 1 pm on a Thursday afternoon. Place was not very busy so we decided to sit at the bar. We were quickly greeted by the male bartender on duty. He offered us some of their craft beers. We let him know this was our first time and he suggested a couple of items off their menu. We ended up getting beer cheese sampler, which was amazing. Made from scratch with one of their craft beers. We both ordered sandwiches; one with beer fries and one with soup. Everything was great. After talking to bartender and local gentleman we were informed that every Thursday evening they have shrimp boil as their dinner feature. We had such a great experience for lunch that we decided we were coming back for dinner! Once back for dinner, the place was rocking! We had to search for parking and they had live music. We ordered some beers and placed our order for shrimp boil. Four orders of shrimp boil later.... we decided this was one of our favorite places. Needless to say, we've been back several times. Food is great. Service is friendly. Only downfall is parking and not enough tables. Every time that we have been back it is packed for dinner/drinks and its hard to get a table/bar seat sometimes. Just went for Tuesday night half price appetizers. We do not drink so we had : - beer battered mushrooms - good but seemed like they were probably from a frozen bag. - beer battered something straws. Slices of jalapeno peppers and onions deep fried - better and I think they were house made. - the wife had a chicken salad sandwich that she said was good. It looked like it was fresh made. This place is off-the-beaten path a little for those traveling. Not far, you just need to know where it is. . It's a cool place with really good food. Sandwiches, burgers, flat breads were delicious. Like a lot of other reviews I've read the biggest drawback for me is the service. Plainly put it's not good. As more than a few have said there seems to be more interest in socializing by the staff than actually serving the customers. It is a great place for craft beers,and unlike others the food isn't bad. In fact for pub food which is what it is it's pretty good ,alibi mostly frozen. It's a good place to have some beers with friends without worrying about somebody starting trouble unlike a lot of other places in Dickson. Like I sai for me the biggest drawbacks are the service (below average) and it's crowded ( kinda like a hallway.) read more

Hubby & I are learning the area as our son recently moved here. Hubby loves craft beer so we saw House of Brews while walking & got excited thinking we might have found a local pub to visit. Hubby tells the girl behind the bar he was interested in IPAs. She didn't suggest anything. Hubby had to inquire about the canned selection in the refrigerator. Not 15 minutes after we were served what we thought was a mediocre selection, another patron walks up to the bar, says he likes IPAs & the girl hands him a beer menu & starts describing to him the IPAs they have on tap. Wait, didn't we just tell you the same thing? She was curt, not at all friendly. What she should know is my husband is a HUGE tipper, especially during covid. Good choice for Dickson hanging out with girlfriends. Decent food - recommend the burgers or nachos over other choices. Visited for brunch once and I'd recommend you again go with burgers or nachos rather than an omelette, even though I'll say the bacon was awesome. Service is not great here, you can't be in a hurry, but most folks aren't. A higher than average percent of the tables are high boy stools which can be bad on the knees if you're over 40. Main Street in Dickson has a great food and beer joint in House of Brews. Today's taps had Black Abbey, Tennessee Brew Works, Yazoo, Fat Bottom, Jackalope and more. Plenty of bottled selections. Burgers, subs, daily soup all good. Pizza, too. Lots of bar snack apps as well. Super attentive service and a nice, casual space filled with happy relaxed folks watching Sunday football. Very Good food. I've only been here twice but the burgers are fresh. French fries are thick spirals really nice. I heard the pizza is good and I had a bite of the home wrecker hot dog and its huge. They have a full bar with a lot of on tap craft beers as well as glass bottles. Place is kinda small but not times I've been for lunch it's good. Don't know what the night brings. Food is prepared upstairs and sent down on an elevator. They have coke products. Seems they have weekly maybe daily mixed drink specials. Very nice looking clean place. Parking is street parking but again lunch time didn't seem to have any problems finding a spot to park. My wife asked while we there today if this can be our new spot and I said it can! read more
