Great spot to people watch, etc. Limited outside spots but you can also bring your 4 legged friends if you eat out there. Smithwick's on draft and an order of Fish & chips. I've always loved McCreary's. It's been a staple original business in downtown Franklin for many years (my entire childhood at least) and the quality has remained consistent over time. It's meets the cozy pub feel that you'd expect and the food is something I think about when I'm feeling homesick. The prices have remained pretty reasonable too! You have to get the fish and chips when you go & enjoy a pint if that's your jam. This is the place to do it! Parking in downtown Franklin is hit or miss. I visited McCreary's randomly with my family (large group of 7) and immediately were seated. The staff were a bit rude towards my dad as they cleaned off the tables while he was speaking to us about where we were sitting and one of the waitresses snapped at him saying "just give us a second to clean." We were all just waiting patiently because it's a tight restaurant with no standing area. The rest of our visit, the waitstaff were quick and pleasant. I had ordered a Red and Gold (Smithwicks and Woodchuck) which was really good! I also ordered the bangers and mash with a cup of clam chowder. The Bangers and Mash were disappointing in both presentation and flavor. There was no gravy on the bangers which was really strange for an Irish pub. Instead, it came with horseradish sauce which was good but usually bangers come with onion gravy or beans and it came with neither. The sliced cheese was a little random and unnecessary, I think. The mashed potatoes were really good! The soda bread was the best I've ever had (haven't had much but I've never actually enjoyed soda bread until our visit). I wish I could have bought a whole loaf, it was that good. The clam chowder was delicious but super buttery which coated the top layer of the soup. Still, very good. All of my family enjoyed their meals, I was the only one that was disappointed in my choice (which is why gave 4 stars instead of 3...if it was just me, it would be a 3). My husband's cottage pie was amazing and I was definitely envious (except for the random slice of cheese on top)! (*note, I LOVE cheese, but the slices were throwing me off). My dad ordered the fish and chips which he really enjoyed, my aunt had a baked potato and was satisfied, and my grandma had ordered a sandwich and love it. The two others in our group had a large bowl of clam chowder and fries. My step-mom raved about the fries. So really, I was the only one that wasn't as happy with my order but everyone else was happy with their choices. Would I go back? We had just arrived into Nashvile Airport, got our rental car and drove to Franklin starving. This was the only place open past 8:30 PM on Main Street. There were 2 guys playing some great music, and we had a round of drinks, and then ordered 2 Pot Pies. They were so bad, one of us sent it back, it was old and dry inside, and mine was liquid and like soup. Yuck! I like Irish food, and would have loved Irish Stew or Shepherd's Pie, but the server said the Pot Pie was one of their most popular items. My party of 4 wandered into McCreary's Irish Pub and Eatery on a busy Monday afternoon. It was extremely crowded with holiday revelers, but we were immediately offered the next available table. This speedy service would be the kindest encounter with the pub's wait staff. As someone with a dairy allergy, I always make sure that my server understands my limitations when ordering from a new menu. Our server seemed to not be knowledgeable of what "dairy" or milk is, and after I ordered the fish and chips, she went to confirm if there was dairy in the batter. There was immediately hostility from her when it was time to change my order, as the fish batter did have milk in it. My husband modified my order to a tuna salad sandwich, verifying that this was a dairy-free option. However, she didn't seem to realize that butter was also dairy, and would have served me a buttered toasted bread with my sandwich if my father in law hadn't of thought to verify. I did not see her smile or greet any guests warmly in the time we were in the pub, which I usually don't care about, but when a server is openly hostile towards a party, it sours everyone's experience. We've dined here numerous times when visiting Nashville/Franklin, and I'd say that service is usually reliable but seating is at a premium. The staff has always been friendly and thorough. The food is always reliably tasty and well prepared. It's pub fair so don't expect anything fancy, but you'll leave with a satisfied belly and palate. I'd say definitely give this place a try if you're in Franklin and there's a table available. I wouldn't wait more than 15 minutes to eat here though. OMGOSH I really don't like to deviate much from just normal americana foods, so I was a little nervous when checking out the menu ahead of time. Happy hour goes until 6pm Monday to Saturday I believe, Beers two for one, wine $2 off, 1/2 price specific apps. My Pinot Grigio was great, the beer cheese chips app was great! The fries that came with my sandwich were incredible and I asked the waitress between the boneless wings or black bean burger and praise all things holy she said the black bean burger because honestly I think it has to be my favorite of all of them here in town. Ridiculously good. The flavor amazing (I wasn't sure about the "salsa" it said it had in the burger or the aioli) but I promise you should not ever pass this option up. The bread melts in your mouth and the cheese is so flipping good, tomato super fresh and delicious. Literally so filling! I was super hungry and only ate half. You bet I took the other half home! It was a Friday night and it was busy. Mine didn't come out with the rest of the tables food so we did wait on mine a bit longer plus a beer was forgotten until my sandwich was brought out. The slow weird service didn't even matter that much being that the food (and company) was excellent. This place is now on my radar and I'm so happy about that!
