The Best Fish & Chips Outside the UK?…read more I've eaten fish & chips religiously every Friday night for over 50 years -- in London, all over the UK, and at the seaside, where fish & chips are supposed to be at their best. So I feel pretty qualified to say that the fish & chips I had at Churchill's British Pub in Nashville on two consecutive Friday nights were right up there with the very best I've ever had! The fish was superb -- beautifully light and fluffy inside with a perfectly crunchy, light batter. The chips were just like my mum used to make, and the homemade mushy peas were absolutely out of this world -- genuinely better than those at the fish & chip shop I currently visit every Friday back home in the UK! And even in Tennessee, they had proper British-made salt and vinegar -- the perfect finishing touch. After 50 years of Friday-night fish & chips, Churchill's has absolutely nailed it. After my 50-year Friday-night fish & chip test, I thought I'd better put Sir Winston Churchill's Full English Breakfast through its paces! I've spent 30 years as a scaffolder in London, and for most of that time I'd start the day with a full Monte English breakfast before heading off for a day's graft as a tubular artist. So I know a thing or two about what's required to kick-start a hard day on the tools! Well, Churchill's didn't disappoint. The Sir Winston Churchill Full English was absolutely top notch -- proper, hearty, traditional British breakfast grub that would give any of London's building trades the ammunition they need to get through a full day's graft. It was exactly what you want from a Full English: generous, satisfying and full of flavour. The sort of breakfast that doesn't just fill you up -- it sets you up for the day. Having travelled all the way from London to Nashville, I can honestly say Churchill's is doing a cracking job of keeping proper British food alive on the other side of the Atlantic. From their fish & chips to their Full English, Churchill's has certainly earned its stripes with this old London scaffolder! Top notch -- I'd happily have it before a day on the tubes... although I'm not sure my knees would cope with the scaffolding anymore!
