The staff are always amazing, so courteous, service is great, always striving to ensure that your dining experience meets your satisfaction. I've eaten just about everything on the menu, cannot single out one meal over another as they are all so delicious. The dining experience... They offer inside and outside dining, call in, and take out service. The owner is always present and takes the time to visit with all customers whether dining in or taking out. I like getting off the "beaten path" and Rochelle's feels like it with the added benefit to travelers on a tight schedule that it's only a minute off the Highway into Memphis. Nevertheless, I must admit I'm having a hard time with this review. I'm about as torn about my experience with this popular BBQ shack as I am torn up with the current depressing and dangerously divided political state of our country. I really want to love this place as much as the other reviews, but it was not as pleasant an experience for me personally. For starters, a big sign out front touts the patriotic slogan "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" which I find now a painfully ironic and depressing bit of nostalgia given the political climate. This sign previewed that I was about to walk into a place in which I was out-gunned, quite literally. Inside Rochelle's was a dizzying array of signs that were both humorous country lore, old tyme wit and downright sinister conservative drivel (depending on your personal views and politics). I'll just say that the many, many tongue in cheek threats of gun-toting "patriots" didn't make for the best culinary experience for me. This coming from a guy who actually likes shooting. But I'm not a snowflake and know I'm in the rural south and the guys with guns on their hips outnumber itinerant Yankee family entertainers like me. So let's forget the politics and get on to the food. The staff greeted me very warmly and were affable and attentive. The menu has all the fixings you would want in a Tennessee BBQ and I settled on my usual combo plate: ribs and brisket. I'm a BBQ nut and I must say, contrary to most reviews, I've had better BBQ. The bones were a bit flaccid. The rub was uninspiring. And though the brisket was quite tender and generously cut, it was limp without a char and the meat was flavorless. The vinegar-based slaw was tasty; minced and tangy. The beans were fine. The bun was a spongy white blob (I wish I knew they had cornbread!!) and the sweet tea was refilled by my nice waitress. The sauces are excellent here and almost worth the trip alone, and the general warmth and feel of the place helped what I thought was good BBQ, not great or excellent, go down well. Still and all- don't miss the chance to stop at Rochelle's if you are passing through. Just try to look the other way at all the implications of a violent showdown over the 2nd Amendment as decor (and please don't dare to trespass). read more

We stopped here for lunch on our drive from Nashville to Memphis. It was such a great spot to stop. Wasn't far off the main highway and the food was so good. It's family owned and a place where the locals eat. I loved all the signs around the restaurant and it's southern hospitality. We had the brisket sandwich and the ribs and the ribs come with 2 large sides. It was plenty of food for the 3 of us. Really enjoyed eating here. It was a great way to start our vacation. read more

This is an interesting BBQ spot located right across the way a bit from Loretta Lynn's Kitchen and it was a really rough decision to have to choose between the two but team BBQ won like is usually does for me. This is a VERY popular spot in the area and I got the last available seat as they were packed to the gills in here when I stopped in. As usual I went with my BBQ brisket order and I was served some nicely tender brisket that tasted much better than it looked; then there was another choice of vinegar or mayo cole slaw and I always go with team vinegar on that and WOW... it was super strong in the vinegar taste unlike any other I had sampled (until soon after I had a similar slaw at Barrel House BBQ in Lynchberg so it must be the way it is made around these parts). They offer a mild and hot BBQ sauce which both offered good flavors. For the less pleasing aspects of this establishment I was rather discouraged they had no lemon for my iced tea, the potato salad was certainly not one of my favorites and then for payment they only take cash or check. The chicken was tender and cooked just right; the beans were well-flavored; and the potato was hot and soft (couldn't ask for a better one). The owner brought out a slice of brisket for me to try and it melted in my mouth. I'm not a big brisket fan, but this was REAL GOOD. The prices are very reasonable and they give you a mess of food. I like to eat at locally-owned restaurants, especially when I travel. On my way through Tennessee, I searched for BBQ places and saw Rochelle's on Google Maps. The ratings were high, so I traveled another 40 miles and I'm certainly glad I did. I got a 2 meat plate with ribs and brisket. Wow! It's damn good Bar-B-Que. The brisket and ribs were super tender. They tasted so good, I'm going to miss this place. Finger-lick'n good. The staff made me feel very welcome. They welcome you when you arrive and say a friendly goodbye after you're done eating. This is obviously a local favorite. Tina was my server and patiently read off the list of 9 cobblers several times for me. Her Tennessee accent and friendly attitude wee as sweet as the blueberry cobbler. I've never been anywhere that had so many choices of cobbler. Did I mention the blueberry was awesome? We stopped in on Friday with a group of seven. We found two tables in the back and pulled them together so we could visit. The ambience was friendly, laid back, snd humorous. Ownership was friendly. The server took our orders and the meals came out in an efficient way. Drinks were continuously refilled before, during, and after the meal. We stayed about two hours and we were never rushed. It was cooked just the way I like it. No knives needed here. It's so tender. But flavorless. All of the meat. I wasn't impressed with the bbq sauces. Too vinegary rather than the sweet, thicker bbq I prefer. The Mac n cheese was good. The baked beans were not. I looooove baked beans. Now for the facts. The beef brisket may well have been boiled, not smoked. As you see in the photo it looks (and tastes) like nothing. The pork is no better. It's tender and tasteless. I asked for ends (sometimes called bark) and got bland, boring meat on both. I'd bet money that the smoker out back is just for decoration. I always ask for no sauce so I can judge the meat accurately, and this meat was found sorely wanting. Just completely tasteless. The Mac & cheese was ok, but nothing special. The pickle chips are rather good. The peach and strawberry cobbler were meh. Now here's the odd part. I dislike 85% of the bbq sauce I taste. This place has sauce that's in the top 5% category of sauces I really like. It's really quite good. Passing through after a nice day hike at Mousetail Landing. We were starving, dirty and just wanted something tasty. We popped in around 6PM on a Saturday. Perfect timing because it was crowded when we got there but even more so when we left. Friendly service as soon as we walked in the door even though we looked pretty hot & dirty. I had pulled pork sandwich and my husband had a pulled pork plate. We shared Mac & cheese, white beans, French fries and the mayo version of their coke slaw. It was all great. It was a Friday evening so the place was packed and there was a line for the take out orders. The owners were unfailingly nice to everyone who was in there. Both my husband and I had spent many years in Texas, so we are sort of bbq snobs, especially with brisket. To our surprise, the brisket was better,tham almost anything we had eaten during our Texas years; I have never eaten brisket that was this temder - it just melted in my mouth. I have moved away from this town around 40 years ago but get back to visit family at least 3-4 times a year and it always feels like home when we get to eat here. We're a band, on our way to Memphis from Nashville. BBQ was the right call, when we found Rochelle's, today. We sampled the pork, brisket, ribs, sausage, mac & cheese, along with several other sides. Everything was clearly amazing, as our 7 seat section of professional noise making rowdies quieted to only the sounds of smacking lips, and the open exchange of delicious, smoky treats and sides. We had an outstanding lunch here. We got the two meat platter with ribs and brisket and also a pulled pork sandwich. They were all melt in your mouth and so good!! On the side we got baked potato and Mac n cheese which were also both great! The restaurant was adorable, clean and people spaced out. They were so warm and friendly. Also, I just noticed a previous reviewer said something about race. I'm not Caucasian and I was treated with great care. I can only speak to my experience, which was excellent. Thank you!
