I thought that the food and drinks were okay--not super authentic, spicy, or that REAL down home Mexican food, but good for a quick bite to fill that little craving for some. I ordered at first a paloma, but they did not have grapefruit juice, so I ordered a mojito. The bartender told me she would have to see if they had mint as they grew it themselves--I was super impressed by this! So, my coworkers and I waited an extremely long time for our food and drinks. My drink came last. It was not super strong, but was very refreshing. We had follow up shots of tequila to our drinks and the patron silver was super smooth and delicious! Unfortunately the service and the atmosphere of the restaurant was not the best. My coworkers and I felt very bad for the waitress and bartender as she did not have any assistance. She was doing her best to try to serve us food, put in orders, make drinks, and clean tables. There were at least ten tables with tons of empty glasses, plates, napkins, and to go boxes. She definitely needed help from other staff members who were non existent and received none. I wanted to step in and help her, but she was very proud and so nice about it. It definitely was not fair to her to have to do everything on her own. I hope that this restaurant gets some assistance soon as it is obviously popular and needs help! read more

Went there for dinner tonight and the food wasn't all that. The service was horrible and extremely slow. We where there for an hour and 15 minutes before we got our food. Without a doubt, this is the BEST restaurant in New Johnsonville; and the surrounding area as well:) This place is the real deal with a menu of authentic Mexican comfort foods. We have now been three times, and look forward to returning! The Carnitas, Fajitas + Nachos are all very good, and the desserts are simply YUMMY! NO frozen items here! What a rare treat to find such an establishment in this location. The service is personable and warm and very inviting the minute you walk into the door. The menu offerings are very diverse yet if you ask your waiter for recommendations they're very spot on. Presentation is also equally impressive. Signage is a little troublesome but I understand from the owner that a new sign will be in place soon. You should check this place out. read more

Been going to this place to eat for about 5 or 6 years now, and the food has went downhill. I usually mix it up when I go but I have a favorite that I eat seldomly. Well tonight was different, the food tasted like it was heated in the microwave and was still clumpy! Also i get half of a portion but get charged the same price for full plate like I've always gotten. It's safe to say they just lost a regular. Ate here with some buddies, the margarita that took 40 min to show up at the table was pretty good, sadly that was the only highlight of the meal. The "Brisket" tacos were crock pot beef that got tossed into a skillet to crisp it up, the "Pastor" tacos were the same beef with a clever pineapple distraction to mask the lack of pork. The fajitas.......well when a skillet of Tacos comes out to your table and it ain't sizzling, let's just say that's a clue. When the waitress sits down at the bar for 5-10 min breaks every 10-15 min you can just go ahead and conclude how the meal is going to go down. Was visiting from out of town and popped in for a very late dinner. The server that greeted at the door was happy to say that they were still serving food at the late hour when I arrived. There was another table of folks there hanging out also, so I didn't feel I like I was putting them out with my late visit. I quickly scanned the menu and ordered. The food came out after about 10 minutes and was hot and fresh like it was earlier in the evening. The food was pretty good. The server was very nice, checking on me a few times before and after my food arrived. I have been more than a half dozen times. If you are in the area and like a cocktail with your meal this is the only game in town. The owner (and cook) is arrogant and elitist. He prepares his food, his region, his way. It is NOT a "tex-mex" place. The ingredients are fresh, the portions are on the small side and the prices are higher. (I am not complaining about this, just making comment. I am amazed at how much food some Mexican places can jam onto a plate for such a low price around middle-Tn). We have always enjoyed my entrees, however, I tend to skip the starters now. The staff tries, but they really need to get proper service and drinks elsewhere to do a better job. The decor and atmosphere leave much to be desired if they are to obtain the "upscale" status they strongly desire. The sound, seating and lighting is goofy and cramped, but not in that "Hip", "we are all just glad to be hear", way. I do not need to hear the bible-thumper's narrow point of view on world affairs, nor do I need their large bottoms rubbing my plates, nor have their numerous offspring's loud and constant distractions. Every time I have been, this has been the case. I have been at 25% occupancy, and they sit me right next to these folks and I have been at 75%. I only go on slow nights and sit at the bar now, not my first choice, but better neighbors. Again, it is the only game in town. We will return. read more

The food has gotten so bland with very little taste, the cheese dip had no peppers nor spice to it, the salsa had no spice and very bland and the chicken fajitas were made with frozen precut chicken strips. The service sucked. The waitress today was the owner's daughter and she kept going to one table to talk and show off her fingernails. We had to ask twice for drinks and straws. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived but it still took a while to initially get our drinks and appetizers. It doesn't take near as long to get the food as it once did but I feel they are taking shortcuts in preparing fresh food and using premade or frozen mixes. We have tried this restaurant about 4 times in the last 6 months but it's doubtful we return. read more

World class Mexican restaurant with a wonderful story. I happened upon this place years ago after a skydive excursion in Waverly and loved it! I was glad to find this place again after the Johnsonville Charge 5 mile run at the nearby state park. Great food, great drink selection and wonderful atmosphere! Decided to have some drinks for our girlfriends birthday at Tequila Johns bar and grill. First mistake! There was only one girl working behind the bar and she had EVERY customer in the building at the bar and a full house of tables. When the bartender finally got to us you could literally see the tears in her eyes. We kept it simple. Couple mojitos and margaritas. She didn't hesitate and they were delicious! Eventually I walked to the bathroom and found a crayon hair colored girl just sitting in what I assume was a closet! Whoever is running this place doesn't know what they are doing, clearly. This place is just sad. Sad.sad! We tipped our girl $100. She deserves much better than that dump. I highly recommend she move on to somewhere worth her hard work. Starting my evening with this wonderful cilantro margarita. Had amazing Kik wonderful balance with a lime cilantro and peppers just absolutely brilliant. Ordered the Juan Burger. 1/2 lb ground sirloin bacon monterrey jack cheese jalapeño and potato hash. The burger looked great but was overcooked. I eat at a bloody rare. Not medium well. Very disappointed. The kid at the bar was excellent at all aspects. Friendly kind and knowledgeable. I will come back but I don't trust the chef. The fries were perfect. Chips abs salsa were amazing. I really don't understand why this place has good reviews. Me and my wife went there and were the only customers in there (lunch time). There was 3 tables with dirty plates on them, they were never cleaned the whole time i was there. Now to the food.....basically most of it is not fresh and straight up tastes like it came out a can. My wifes chicken in her chimichaunga was extremely dry and the vegetables were burnt. She said the cheese sauce was great. My burger was good but ive had better meat from walmart. I think this meat was frozen premade meat. None of this food was worth the outrageous high price......will not go back and i dont recommend to ANYONE read more

On our arrival the hostess took us to the table next to what looked like baby toys a stroller and a bike. Not generally the things that you would see in a restaurant, but we were very hungry and just wanted some food.I ordered a margarita, 10 minutes later I received 2 pina-coladas. After telling the waitress she said I will fix this, 5 minutes later she came to me and asked me if there was rum in margaritas,,,,,,I ordered tea at that point. 20 minutes later our food arrived, yes it stunk. I ate about 5 bites just to keep my stomach from growling and sent the rest back, needless to say I made a meal on chips and dip. My son was with me and he was in the same boat as I was, just eat enough to get us by. My son did say the bathroom was cool but the comode did not flush. I would go to the local convieience and eat out of the day old warmer before ever going here again. Shame on you Tequila John! read more

You'll get really good food accompanied with outstanding service. If you need to make menu substitutions for your diet these folks will happily accommodate, and it was the only place we could find in the area where we could get a bottle of wine served with our meal. I'm surprised to read the bad review that Mr. Chris H wrote about Tequila John's recently. My husband and I have been going to Tequila John's since they first open the restaurant in Waverly, TN. Tequila John's is the best restaurant in Humphreys County and surounding counties. Its food is well-prepared and presented in an elegant atmosphere with soft music and a bar to enjoy a nice glass of wine or whatever drinks the customers like. Sometimes we order from the menu, others we tell John, the chef, to prepare something special for us, and he does it the way we like and we want. Yes, you see baby stuff and a bike in the restaurant, but the locale is pretty big, clean, well-decorated and you don't have to sit close to it. Usually that stuff is kept way in the back and is no bothering anyone. The Reveles family have children and they spend long hours 7 days a week in the restaurant to please the needs of their customers/clientele. I'd suggest to Mr. Chris H. that, if he's ever in that area again, to go back and order whatever he pleases to eat either from the menu or not, and order the drink that he really would like to enjoy. read more
