This place has been on my list for a while now...ever since a friend told me about the place. I live a little over 2 hours away from here. I arrived to see quite a line forming so I hop in line and check out the menu. It's pretty simple...pork is the main emphasis here and whole hog BBQ is the name of the game. I ordered the Jumbo Pork Sandwich, Mayo Slaw, and Sweet BBQ Sauce on the side with potato salad. The food...EXCELLENT. I love how you have the option to get mayo OR vinegar slaw on your sandwich PLUS it's a fine chop and the sweet BBQ sauce is great. I got to see some of the hogs heading into the smokehouse...pretty cool setup. The food here is great and the service at the window for your order was efficient and friendly. read more

First time customer. I drove 50 miles specifically to try their BBQ. It was worth every mile. This whole hog BBQ is the stuff of my dreams. Since I no longer live in the south, I miss this amazing taste, skill, and experience. It reminds me of my childhood when whole hog BBQ was prevalent. Scott's is the top of the class! This is one of the few "whole hog" bar-b-que places left in west Tennessee and it is a place not to be missed. The pulled pork sandwiches are amazing and the sides are homemade fresh daily. But the crown jewel is the ribs (which they do not serve every day, so watch social media). Slow smoked and not smothered in sauce so the flavor of the meat comes through loud and clear. And so tender you can cut the slab apart with a plastic knife. Hands down the best ribs I've ever had (and I've had quite a few). Staff is fantastic; we even got a tour of the smokehouse in back! They know how to move the line along, which is good because Scott's is quite popular with the locals. Nice area to eat inside. I had really high expectations for this place after reading multiple reviews online touting it as one of the best Tennessee barbecue spots. Sadly, it just couldn't live up to them. Right of the bat when you walk in you feel unsafe because none of the staff is wearing masks, and customer mask wearing is not enforced in any way. That aside let's talk about the food. The two highlights were the baked beans and the price point. The baked beans ($1.50) were simply great, there's really not much else that I can say. Good balance of beans and meat. I guess the potato salad was ok, but I am not a "cold potato dish" lover so my friend ate that. Let's talk about the main course - the barbecue. Both the plate and the sandwich are both $4. You get a bit more meat with the plate, whereas with the sandwich you get a bun and slaw (either with vinegar or mayo). Their recommendation was to get it with mayo so I did. Once you bite into the sandwich the only thing I could get out of it was texture. The mayo didn't add any flavor to the slaw, and the pork was just... there. Same with the plate. It was not exactly tender, nor flavorful. The only way you can get any flavor is to drench it in their hot sauce which you are not given enough of. read more

I was told this place had the best BBQ in all of Tennessee. I do have to admit...it is pretty darn good. They specialize in whole hog. I love the fact that they were very willing to drive all the way from Lexington, TN to Linden, TN for a catering event that I had for my doctors. They were on time and the BBQ was wonderful!!! Everyone raves over the pulled pork and said that Scott's is the only place they Go for "Good" BBQ! They definitely have a loyal following out here in West Tennessee! On my way to Nashville and I stopped by Scott BBQ to see how good they were because I was intrigued on whole hog bbq. The staff was nice and quick with my order. They had a nice set up with lots of seating and fun decorations everywhere. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and 1/2 lb of pulled pork on the side. The pulled pork was on the dry side, so I didn't care for that. But that bbq sauce was sooooooo gooooddd! It had a nice tang and kick to it that I liked a lot. read more

This place is legendary for their whole hog pork BBQ. I don't eat pork, so I get the pulled chicken. It is absolutely delicious. On a bun, I put pulled chicken, vinegar slaw, hot sauce (made by Scott's) and ketchup and it is divine. I could eat this every day! My picky eater child loves it, too! Although I don't eat pork, everyone I know who has ever eaten this pork BBQ can't get enough of it. Also, if you want food from Scott's you better get there before lunch because they sell out quickly. read more

I reached out to B.E. Scott's about a month ago before my trip to let them know I'd be in the area on June 29. I asked if they could hold onto some barbecue for me . They generously agreed and suggested that I contact them again on the morning of my visit. I did, speaking with owner Zach Scott via telephone. He was very kind and promised to reserve something special for me. When I arrived I was treated to a sandwich made with middling meat (the pork or bacon cut from between the ham and shoulder of a pig). I added a little slaw and both kinds of barbecue sauce (one is a spicy, vinegar-based sauce while the other is a thicker, sweeter offering). I added a side of beans and washed everything down with a big cup of sweet tea. After my meal Zach was kind enough to take time out of his busy day to show me where the magic happens and to talk with me about barbecue and life. The experience was absolutely the highlight of my day and one of the best parts of my trip. These folks couldn't have been more friendly. They work hard, doing whole hog barbecue the right way. I still like the food, but the woman is very rude and unprofessional. I have a service dog. She told me to get out of her restaurant that she was not going to lose it because I wanted to bring a pet inside. I explained that he was a service dog. She wanted me to provide her with his paperwork. I explained that if she would go to www.ada.gov that it would explain my rights and hers. It would have taken less than 5 min to read, she argued longer than that. As the line behind me grew, she still insisted that I leave, I ask that she call the police. She said well since you have a vest I'll let you order. The ADA doesn't require a disabled person to have certification or even that the animal wear a vest. read more

I was a firm believer that all BBQ restaurants were the same. I mean it's hard too mess up smoking meat as I do it myself all the time. This place though is by far the best. The open pit whole hog method has me rethinking. I'm only been there 3 times all 4-6 years apart. This last time I bought some by the lbs to bring home for others to try. All agreed hands down best they have had ever (if you travel the employees suggested they squeeze some fat over top to stop it from drying out, YUP good idea guys it was perfect in a cooler 4-5 hour trip back to St. Louis wasn't hot but a quick slow cooker for 30 minutes or so and it was awesome). read more

This is the kind of place I wish YELP had been around to help me find 40 years ago. Of course, cell phones hadn't been invented then, or smartphones, so I guess it's understandable. I've been going thru Lexington on the North-South highway and this restaurant has been on the East-West highway about 2 miles West from the main intersection in town. Lexington is one of those small towns in the South that you often pass through but it's not really a destination, usually. I sought out this restaurant after reading about it in a new book called THE ONE TRUE BARBECUE by Rein Fertel, which is a book devoted to pitmasters who cook barbecue in the whole hog style. Several chapters of the book are devoted to Ricky Parker who devoted his life to perfecting whole hog barbecue at Scott's Barbecue in Lexington, Tennessee. Unfortunately, Ricky died around 2 years ago but his sons carry on the business. The barbecue here is very well done. It does not have as heavy smoke taste as I would have expected. The taste comes largely from the sauce, a South Carolina style vinegar sauce with a strong Tennessee Hillbilly kick to it. The meat is served pulled, is tender and flavorful. Be aware that the mild sauce still has a very strong cayenne kick to it. The only menu choices are barbecue sandwiches, a barbecue plate is not an option. Beans, slaw and potato salad are offered as side options. The potato salad was very good, with a strong mustard element. I'll be detouring as I come through Lexington again if it's near a meal time. read more
