Had some backyard a few days back at the Menlo Park store and had the itch to have some more while in San Jose. Stopped by this location for my first time and missed it if you're not looking hard enough. It's on an extremely busy street with limited parking but it was all worth it in the end. The lady was super nice and helpful. Remembered my orders and drinks even though she was super busy. It was nice to actually get my drinks I ordered lol. Food was amazing as well. Today I learned you can order frozen Patties to take home and bake yourself!

Ok hear me out. This spot is it. Extremely affordable with great food. Well wait what I ordered was great. I still need to go back to sample the rest of the menu. Oxtails 5/5 tender, and seasoned well. Mac&cheese 5/5 nice portion, seasoned perfectly and cheese to noodle ratio good. Rice&beans 5/5 seasoned good, cooked perfectly. Plantains 6/5 I didn't even like plantains. But the ones I jad here were so good. They brought the whole dish together. Jerk chicken 5/5 Some damn good bird. That's all I need to say. Service 5/5 My only true gripe is the lack of dining space. Nothing inside and like 3 tables on the outside. No where near a deal breaker for me, but I wouldn't mindthat little comfort. Just my opinion. Overall a wonderful experience.

PACKAGE THREE (WHOLE): 14-16 LB Jamaican-Style Juicy Jerk Turkey

We ordered the package three which is cooked jerk turkey and just reheat along with sides (plantains and mac & cheese) for thanksgiving celebration. We chose to pick it up the day before thanksgiving, and the pickup process was quick, you check in, wait a couple minutes, someone comes out with your order, and then they'll go over what you ordered and provide reheating instructions. The day of thanksgiving, we followed the reheating instructions thoroughly, and when it was done, I cut the leg open and it was raw. Very unfortunate turn out on our first time hosting thanksgiving. I sent an email, and got a response the day after, and they issued a refund. Im giving them 2 stars for their service, and the product is what they need to work with. Quality control before serving to customers. Embarrassing and huge inconvenience on the day of thanksgiving.

I LOVE BACKAYARD!!! I swear anytime I'm sad and I feel like being comforted I'll get a pork and beef oxtail combo because this plate of food cures all. I usually order ahead online or doordash, and I've never had to wait more than 5 min for my meal. My go to before was jerk chicken and pork combo... but once I tried the oxtail I cannot go back. The flavors are both so powerful and complement the coconut rice so well. I'm also obsessed with the plantains ughh every texture and component in the combo bangs. Don't even get me started on the lil sauce that comes with your food. The price is also reasonable for how big the portion size is--I always end up splitting my bowl for two meals. It's more of a 4.5 for me because I truly love everything here. But sometimes the plantains are overdone or the pork is. I don't mind too much though because it's still a solid delicious meal!!

I wish I didn't have to drive all the way to San Jose for the best Caribbean food of my life! Must tries: oxtail, goat, pork plates with a side of collard greens. Do not skip the collard greens. The Mac and cheese didn't disappoint either but you can get that anywhere. Their BBQ plate with tender pork ribs and hot-links is also a a favorite.

Always a good time eating anything from Back a Yard. I've been going for a year now and everytime it was delicious. So much flavor with their meats, the plantains delicious(don't go near closing or they might not have) and the sauces they have elevate the meal to a different level. Even doordashed, the food taste good when it arrives. The service could be better but can't blame them with it being next to a college. The deliciousness of the food makes up for it.

I LOVE back a yard. Been going to different locations for over 6 years but I'm just confused as to why my plate didn't come with the plantains. That's the main let down as I look forward to the plantains.. it would be 5 stars but the just make sure to check your orders.

    Jerk Chicken & Beef Oxtails!

Absolutely incredible food. Truly authentic. Also got the Mac and cheese, greens, and extra plantains with a Kola Champagne. Ordered takeout and it was ready within 10 minutes, super quick service. The perfect comfort meal if you love flavor!, highly recommend this spot!

I always stick to the OG in menlo park bc it always hits. I've been to other locations and sometimes it doesn't meet the standards. Just moved to this area but the fact this is walking distance I had to try. Fire! and they were pretty friendly with the portions especially with the oxtail. They only open for lunch hours so be mindful of that.

reserved a thanksgiving dinner pick-up order..."hot ready to eat"...only available at the 13th street, san jose location...parking is extremely limited...parked on their narrow driveway...ordered a maple glazed roasted turkey and requested boneless and cut $115...comes with gravy and cranberry sauce...turkey was moist and flavorful...seriously delicious...ordered a half pan of the "fall off the bone" beef oxtail $85...the flavors were excellent, but probably needed to cook low and longer...beef did not fall off the bones and was a little chewy...half pan of candied yams $30 was pretty sweet...half pan of the rice and beans $34 was cooked perfectly...half pan of cornbread with butter $25 was so fluffy good...pecan pie $24 was delicious...about $400 total for dinner for 3 families...probably enough food for 6 families...

No indoor seating here, but there's an outdoor patio with a couple tables out front. My takeout order was ready in less than 5 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. I selected a bunch of different items, thinking that the "quik eats" on the menu would be small bites. To my surprise, these were pretty much full sized dishes, with bread and fries included, so I ended up with more than enough to last me for days. Everything I got was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The jerk chicken pieces came with two drumsticks and two thighs and had a nice kick from the seasoning. The bbq pork spareribs were tender and juicy and very tasty even before I added the bbq sauce that came on the side. The baked mac and cheese was rich and satisfying. And that cornbread was heavenly, with an ideal texture and nice buttery flavor. It may be the best cornbread I've ever had. They even offer a jamaican version of cornbread on the menu, which the worker explained is more dessert-like and very good too. All in all, this a great option if looking for some good comfort food at great value.

Our menu includes stewed chicken, jerk pork, coconut curry garbanzo beans, jerk tofu, rasta pasta, steamed veggies, island salad, sweet plantains. I did not try all of them, but I tried the stew chicken, jerk pork and rasta pasta and they all tasted good. The Stew Chicken (What A Gwann) has good big pieces of chicken, such as the drum sticks or the leg quarter. There were bell pepper strips in the tray and they soaked up the flavors. The chicken drum stick that I got was not dry at all; I left the food on the plate for a few hours and finally started eating it cold (it was a busy day!) and the chicken was still tasty! What a pleasant surprise! The Jerk Pork was also cut up in big pieces, I do like the cut but there are some layers of fat on the meat that I prefer not to have but I understand that's what makes the meat has good texture. The Jerk Tofu was plated nicely, too bad my stomach ran out of room to try it. The Rasta Pasta was another good surprise. It was in a creamy sauce with bell pepper strips. It has a nice kick and not just like the usual white cream sauce, perhaps of the jerk seasoning. Overall, I would come back for the pasta and the stew chicken for the Caribbean cuisine.

The escovitch fish plate is only a Friday special. Each day of the week they have a different special they serve. For the oxtail plate they always have it. The oxtail plate came with oxtail, beans + rice, and plantains. There is a good amount of oxtail for the price and portion size. The meat was very tender, fall of the bone and flavorful. I have had this from Back A Yard before and it never fails, the flavors are always consistent for the oxtail. The Escovitch Fish came with fried fish, fried bread, beans + rice and plantains. It also came with a pickled vegetable sauce. The sauce was not too sour or spicy. The fried fish was fried nicely, the fried bread was a nice addition had a slight sweetness. To cut the heaviness of the fried bread and fish, the pickled vegetable sauce is essential. The beans and rice are flavorful, and plantains were cooked nicely. Overall, this is a nice place to get some Caribbean food, and I'll come back to try their Chicken Curry specials that they serve on Tuesdays and get the oxtail plate again.

I would assume this would be pretty lively when its more prime hours for eating but it was nice and quiet when I came. The Food: I got the oxtail with the goat curry, and it came with beans and rice and plantains. The oxtail was super tender, and falls off the bone with no effort, and the sauce it comes in is very flavorful and filled with spices. I really liked the food, and it had a subtle sweet with its seasonings. The goat curry is subtly spicy, with a hearty goat and meaty flavor. I enjoyed the goat curry over the oxtail as it was more flavorful and I liked the spice on curried goat. The rice and beans have great flavor and the plantains are tender and slightly sweet. Overall: I would come back again if I am craving Caribbean food. The food value is good and gives a great heaping serving. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. I suggested Caribbean food since I just had Peruvian food the weekend before. You should look for my review of Límón in downtown Mountain View. Since there's construction going on in the area, I didn't realize there was a parking lot adjacent to the entrance of the restaurant! Lol I circled back around and parked in the underground parking. It smelled really bad as I walked up, but I guess whatever they were cooking in the City Hall is what made the parking garage smell? It didn't matter because from the street I could hear the joyous Caribbean beats and I really like that music. It just makes you feel happy and want to dance even if you don't know how!! Apparently, just before me was a giant catering order so the four employees were quickly getting things set up and chefs were moving back-and-forth and saran wrapping and packing up this big order. I asked if I could do takeout and they handed me a menu! I ended up ordering two different dishes. I ordered: *chicken jerk- dark meat * 2- Jamaican patty; chicken * vegetable stirfry * side; mac & cheese and coleslaw * rum cake * pineapple upside down cake My aunt had never had Jamaican jerk before and she loved the spice of the chicken! My three-year-old niece, however thought it was too spicy, but she really liked the plantains! We picked off the chicken skin for her and she ate the meat underneath. We ate the spiced Jamaican jerk!! Lol my niece also loved the macaroni and cheese, and the vegetables! My aunt loved the coleslaw as did I since it had a delicious crunch and the vegetable had a good spice mixture and I was really surprised with how filling the vegetables were since I got that as my dish! I wasn't hungry for any meat, but I ate a Jamaican patty, which is more like an empanada and that thing was freaking delicious!! My three-year-old niece also loved the empanada, Jamaican patty! Both of the cakes we got were delicious and had so much flavor!! I actually didn't eat my cake till later that afternoon with a cup of coffee, but goodness that rum cake was just as tasty as my grandma used to make but a different style. I can't wait to go back there again and I'd love to eat at the actual restaurant since there's definitely a vibe! I like the idea of their different cocktails and they had a cute little sports bar area so I wouldn't mind watching a game there! Can't wait to go back!!
