Aside from that the older gentleman accused me of coming in regularly to return things and this would be the last time I can do this. So, I said in reasonable defense "I have not ever done this, this is only the first time I returned anything at big 5. Anyway, he said well, someone who looks like you keeps doing this. (By the way, I'm a black woman). So he reluctantly does the return and warned him not to judge anyone this way, but he just kept arguing with me. And the other employees were just standing there just simply not caring. I'm writing this review in the hope that NO ONE, especially a person of color has this experience.

If, by chance, you actually get an experienced employee, chances are that you will not see them again on your next visit. Seems to be significant dissatisfaction among the employees. The people in the store are always nice -not always experienced but they try or call for help, which may or may not be quick. I will say, my limited experiences at the monroe store are much better. It appears to be in business for real. Unfortunately, it is far away from my farm.

The customer service agent said they would discuss the refund with their supervisor. I also sent an email to their customer service email address and heard nothing back. Absent any refund or response, I filed a dispute with my credit card company and Classic Accessories can enjoy the charge back fee. The cover is still sitting in its box ready to be returned. I'll never buy anything from this company directly again and will simply buy another brand or buy through Home Depot who actually honor their shipping and refund policies.

I could not be happier with the service and quality of rental gear from Back40. My wife, a friend, and I traveled from Minnesota to Washington to see a 3 days of Phish at The Gorge so needed to rent camping equipment since we can't travel with that much stuff. Originally, I was put on a waiting list since they were sold out so looked all over and didn't find anything comparable out there (especially the sun canopy - nobody rents those and those are an absolute necessity at The Gorge!). Fortunately, I floated to the top of the list, Drew contacted me, and we were good to go! Drew provided excellent communication regarding what I would be renting, when to pick it up, and he even made special accommodations for me to drop the gear off since I had to drop off a bit before the regular time. Everything was extremely smooth. As for the gear, we had 2 tents, 3 sleeping bags, 3 air mattresses (none of which leaked at all, which is rare in my luck with those things!), 3 sleeping bags, comfy liners for the sleeping bags, a huge and really nice sun canopy, cooler, 3 chairs, and a bin of stuff (stove, french press, plates, etc.). Everything was really nice, in great shape, clean...seriously top notch everything. Drew made planning for the trip so easy and I wouldn't ever consider looking elsewhere if I made the trip again (unless he was sold out of course). read more

I am a local here in WA but I'm also an avid traveler and I tend to move a lot, so I didn't want to invest in a ton of backpacking gear without knowing where I'll end up living yet. I did a google search to see if there was such a thing as gear rental and to my surprise I found Back 40. Their prices and quality beat out any competitor in the area and I love that I was able to meet the owner of the company. I went backpacking last summer with my Mom for the second time in my life and the first time in hers - and I was COMPLETELY amazed that I did not have to worry about one detail or one item of equipment that I might miss. Drew was able to meet me close to home and drop off my gear and even showed me how to use things I may not have seen yet. If you need advice, camping gear, backpacking gear, or even just one or two items that you might be missing - this is THE BEST DEAL in the area. If I could give you 20 stars I would. Great experience with Back40! Was flying from Philadelphia to Seattle and needed some gear for a few nights of camping and backpacking in the Enchantments. Shannon was really helpful in answering my questions, she was flexible with our order and her rentals were all high quality. Plus the prices were awesome. The tent was easy to set up, the jet boil was clean and easy to use and most of all the backpack was spacious and comfortable. Would highly recommend Back40- the service is helpful for folks from out of town or even locals not committed to purchasing all of the necessary gear. The prices were MUCH better than renting from REI. Next time I'm in the PNW for Mount Rainier, North Cascades, the Olympics National Parks I'll be sure to arrange rental equipment through Back40! read more

This was the second year that we used Back 40 and Drew did an outstanding job again this year. He made enhancements to the concert package from last year's rental, and all of the gear was either new or in great shape. We had everything we needed for our 4 person group to spend Labor Day weekend at the Gorge. The temperature got down into the low 50's and it was extremely windy - but we were warm in our sleeping bags and the Coleman dome sunscreen was unfazed by the wind - while lesser EZ canopies collapsed. Pick up and drop off were extremely easy. Drew and Back 40 provide a great service and they are extremely customer friendly and responsive. We plan on using Back 40 again next year! read more

Fantastic experience and very glad I went with Back 40 Outfitters. My girlfriend and I rented the car camping set and travelled around the Olympic Peninsula for 5 days exploring around and had a blast. We had two minor hiccups that were not big deals: One of our twin mattresses wouldn't hold any air but when I brought it up they were quick to say I could replace it at any walmart and they would compensate me. And secondly we ran out of butane mid-way through cooking one night! So if you are planning on cooking meals throughout your camping you might want to consider renting or buying an additional butane tank, they're fairly cheap. read more

My wife and I moved to Seattle, and wanted to explore the surrounds. We came across Back 40, and we've used them a number of times. We were even able to call on the day before July 4th, and Back 40 had everything we needed delivered to our door by 6PM that evening. These guys are really helpful, and the gear is top quality. The equipment we rented from Back 40 enabled us to have so many enjoyable experiences that we have since bought some of our own gear. What an awesome company. First of all, I love the concept. Such a convenient way for visitors to secure camping gear, especially given how the company coordinates pick-up and drop-off to fit your needs. Absolutely fantastic company. We flew to Seattle from the East coast so didn't want to lug all of our camping gear with us. The equipment we hired from Drew was top notch and covered everything from tent to cooler, even matches and washing up liquid. Not only that, but he contacted me to inform I'd accidentally left some articles of my own inside the pack.
