Went to this place on Friday night for the first time. I had seen it driving by over the years, but never captured my attention. Fast forward to Friday, 5/29, when I saw a deal on my credit card's portal with restaurant.com. After seeing the deal and clicking on the site, I decided to look into what restaurants they had in Lubbock. Back 40 was one of about 4 restaurants in Lubbock on this site. I was able to purchase gift cards at a discounted rate to redeem at the restaurant. We go and, in short, we were told that the new owners, Jeff and Tina McCreight, had no clue what we were talking about, but IF it was legit (excuse me?!?!?) then they would NOT be honoring it. To add insult to injury, all communication was done via the waitress, even though Mr. McCreight was visible on the floor the entire evening we were there and even approached at least one table next to ours multiple times. As a result, I contacted the credit card company after we left. Credit card company asked me to contact restaurant.com, which I did earlier today. The website gladly refunded the gift cards ($100 worth) and stated they would be in contact with Back 40, as they were in violation of their contractual agreement. As a result of all the above, we will not be returning. Two stars are for the attentive waitress and pretty good, yet overpriced cuisine. Unlike the proprietors, we're being generous.

Listen up, this place is new (opened late Nov 2024) so they are still working out the kinks. I say this because there are two reviews on this place that mention negative things. IMHO I think thus far they are excelling and will only get better and better. We need to give them grace as they learn and grow. ***So please READ MY REVIEW and ignore the 1 stars.*** The food we ordered was tasty, affordable and came out quickly. Drinks for the entire table were on point. Shout out to Chet who will gladly curate a drink for you if you are not sure what you want. Oh and did I mention 237 is located inside? 237 is Speakeasy located inside of Soggy Dog (at this time 237 is open Thur-Sat nights). 237 has it's own vibe and drink menu. PRO TIP: Enter Soggy Dog through either of the double set of metal doors. Yes you are at the right place. I will take pictures of the entrance on my next visit.

The chips and queso were an appetizer but came out with the rest of the food. Queso was extremely burned so I asked for it to be removed from the ticket; instead, they replaced it with spicy broccoli cheese soup. Okra and fries were not cooked all the way through; seems hard to mess up food service frozen food, but here we are. The hot chicken sandwich was made with chicken so tough I couldn't cut it. The hot sauce was nice, the salsa was decent. My giant mug of beer was flat but at least it was cold. Overall: poor food, slow service. Was hoping for better.

Tons of TVs everywhere, lots of standing-room-only tables. A lot of outdoor and bar games to play. It's a huge place and very loud - definitely not family friendly, so I'm not sure where other reviewers got that idea from. Also, parking is a nightmare and you will likely end up having to park in a neighboring business's lot. The orders for drinks and food are incredibly slow. Bartenders will straight up ignore you if you don't look or act a particular way, plus they're kind of dismissive and rude in demeanor when you do finally get service. It's all fit for a particular group of which I am not actually a member, it seems. But a friend wanted to visit for his birthday so I went to entertain his request. I would not personally go back here of my own accord.

Nick took great care of us as we slid down the slide! (Do the slide)! We had sliders and chicken wings, cocktails, cold beer and fantastic conversations with the staff. They brought water for the dogs and kept our drinks full. Now, it's a monday in july. It's quiet, big screen TV with baseball on, swings...and the slide. Highly recommend!

This may have actually been the most disappointing food I've ever had in Lubbock, I love local…read morerestaurants but this one just isn't it. This isn't to say this is the worst food in existence, but for the price point I can't recommend this place. Let me start by saying this restaurant seems to have a massive variation in the quality of its dishes. I imagine the positive reviews probably ordered some sort of specialty signature dishes as what I got was just reprehensible. Do not order the tomato soup and grilled cheese, don't even consider it. For $9 I got a small cup of soup and HALF of a sandwich, must of been pretty good for the price right?.... I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that when I accidentally burn grilled cheeses at home, they are still better in every category than what I received here. Zero flavor. The tomato soup looked really good, but also had such little flavor that dunking the grilled cheese in it actually made the grilled cheese worse. This meal would've been a tough sell if my 5 year old cousin made it for me when I was sick. My friend also gave their green beans cause they didn't want it... and I can see why, it was also horrifically bland. Also nabbed a few tater tots from the chicken steak and they were super breaded, not bad but not impressive. The "shining" star of the experience was the mulita I got as an appetizer, quite good, like a 3/5 good though, still rather dry and covered in cilantro, came with some sauce, but overall the best thing I had. The decor of the place was just baffling. High ceiling, high chairs, white walls, random TTU alumni adorning the walls, tvs with sports running. Seemingly trying to be a nice place, but the kind of nice place where you can watch the latest football game while having an overpriced beer and the worst grilled cheese of your life. The service I got was fine, on the lower side of quality (especially for the price point). I did like the brown overalls they were wearing, very steampunk. When I saw this place had an overwhelmingly positive reception, I was excited to go there, but this was one of the most disappointing places I've visited in Lubbock which sucks cause it's local. For $20 i got half a grilled cheese, worst than canned soup, and 3 mulitas (which I shared). Maybe to some they would say this was a middling experience, but have some standards for yourself people. I sincerely hope that I just had rotten luck picking the worst item on the menu, and this place is actually quite good, but that's all optimism and no reality. What I got was one star, please fix your grilled cheese. 3/15 (+ brown overalls, + mulita, -everything else) Fails in pretty much every category, I'm sure some dishes are good, but I won't revisit in some futile attempt to find one
