Ugh! I wanted to like this place so badly but after two attempts at trying I must sadly admit defeat. Attempt #1 - ordered the fajita chicken salad. Safe choice right? Ummmm no. The chicken was dry, the guacamole was squeezed from a bag and so was the dressing. The cheese, sour cream and lettuce were fine but the combination of all of the above was a bitter disappointment. My hopes were dashed. Attempt #2 - walked in for Sunday brunch with renewed optimism and ordered the chicken and waffles. Safe choice right? Ummmm no. Is that a waffle? It's so sad and soggy and rubbery and....why? why? why? What has happened to it? Surprisingly the chicken was good but the gravy was questionable. Was it as homemade as the guacamole and dressing from my previous visit? I decided not to think about it too much. I truly want to be an avid supporter of local ventures but Back 40 Grill has made me tired. Order the burger and fries. Based on other reviews from this site you might have good luck with that. It isn't the prettiest restaurant in town, but the All American Hamburger is fantastic!! It's so large that my friend and I have to share it and they give us each a great supply of skinny fries. I love this read more

Best place in town for fajita nachos, hamburgers are great, service is great,owner always very personable, some waitresses forget things, that's life, we all forget when we are new workers, not a problem to me, drinks are good, love sitting outside, at night very noisy but so is every place in Lubbock, great place outside if you want to talk or make it a nice evening, after the partyers get out its loud everywhere. Love this place. Good food, good service, good price, good location. Red Neck wings with a dinner salad might be the perfect meal. Good adult beverages... music and TVs don't drown everything out. Great outdoor eating area... all the right stuff here! read more

Stopped in for lunch. I had a wrap and my husband had a burger. His burger was ok and my wrap was incredibly bland. We did order the bacon wrapped peppers as an appetizer which were good but still not the best. For the price of everything combined with the less than mediocre flavor, we do not plan to go again. My first visit here and I was not so impressed. The service was great but the food was not up to par. We ordered an appetizer of cheese and hot sauce and split a philly sandwich. The cheese was cool but had a good flavor. The philly had about 7 pieces of chewy undercooked meat cut thick. Other plates being served there looked good. Upon receiving our bill I noticed their tipping guide had 18, 22, and 25 percent which I thought was very aggressive for a restaurant in shopping center. read more

not impressed!!! I had been so excited to try this place out. Thought it would be some good eating!! Well I could have saved my money and bought frozen food and fried it myself at home. The redneck wings came out and was good at firts bite but when I got to the middle they were cold. Finally the waitress come over and got that fixed. Besides the times she brought out food and drink she came to the table maybe two other times!! She probably thought we were not spending much$$$ since we got 2 appetizers and split a meal... But little did she know I was ready to drink. She would have known that if she would have pay attention to her table of 3 instead of only worrying about her two lager tables. I love ketchup and finally we had to go get it ourselves to us on our FRIED foods!! PS!! I have been a waitress myself and I know how hard it can be therefore if I get decent service I tip big.... Went for brunch this morning. There is an omelette on the menu, so I requested an egg-white omelette and was told, "No, we cannot make an egg-white omelette." What? Sorry, but a disappointing experience. Probably will NOT be back. read more

My wife and I waited outside for 40 minutes while each having 2 drinks from their bar. Then we were given a table by some friends of ours who were leaving. No one waiting at the front door by this time. Good ol' Troy pulled the 'good ol' boy' system on us and rudely kicked us out of the table. He then moved some of his friends to it. He told us to wait up front for our names to be called. As we were leaving, the hostess said she had a booth open. We told her that we knew b/c we were kicked out for the people in that booth. We also told we wouldn't be back... And we have not. This place should be in the Depot District or literally on the back 40. Agree with the others regarding it being too loud as well. read more
