This place is sketch AF I called asking for prices for a contact eye exam. He said it was $50 (lowest price I have ever heard) and that I need to come in wearing my contact lenses (unheard of for an optician place where I'm coming in supposedly to have my eyes checked). I went in anyways out of desperation - I was on my last pair of contact & need a cheap prescription. Similar to what another customer said before, he has an extremely rude attitude. When I asked him why he needed my address (which he wrote down on a piece of paper, no computer registration no form no anything), he became angry and basically kicked me out. I was so shocked I didn't know how to react, and I was also confused - I was being perfectly polite, why would I get kicked out of the store just by asking a reasonable question? Then I realized that it is illegal per New York State Law to underwrite a prescription without examining the patient, that's exactly what he's doing, and that's the reason why the prescription is so cheap. On top of the illegal practice, this is the first time I have ever been kicked out of a store (without doing anything). TL:DR this is probably the sketchiest/cheapest optician place you could go in nyc. You could basically get a prescription without a proper exam, as long as you shut up & no questions are asked. If you ask any question you will get treated rudely + kicked out. I would have filed a complaint with the state if I weren't this busy. read more

Mr. Bacchus's optical shop is a gem. To begin with, he is a human being who cares about every individual who walks through his door. He is attentive and highly knowledgeable which only proves his quality of service. The glasses he carries are of good quality and design and the lenses are perfectly shaped and sturdy. There is not many places like his. Once you are already in, you may want to reconsider your previous habits. Aim for quality and quantity. read more

Dr. Bacchus is hands-down the best optometrist I have ever had in my 21+ years of bad vision problems! I was looking for an affordable place to receive a comprehensive eye exam and stumbled on Dr. Bacchus' practice on Yelp. Not only were his services incredibly affordable (only $40 for an eye exam - other places were starting to charge me at $85), Dr. Bacchus was incredibly kind, patient, and informative the entire time. Even though I have had surgery and multiple other 'problems' with my eyes in the past, Dr. Bacchus was able to identify them all, listen to me explain, and walk me through any preventative care/medical jargon he was talking to. He also did not try to push any of his own products on me and even gave me a free bottle of sterilizing solution - left with a new prescription and a happy customer! I took my glasses for adjustment and the rude owner dismissively and repeatedly refused to explain what "a total adjustment" meant but made sure to tell me he was not responsible for breaking my 500 dollar glasses. When I made a suggestion of an alternative solution and asked if that was possible, he rudely told me to go somewhere else where I can tell them what to do and walked away. That is definitely what I will do. read more

It is with great pleasure that I add Feroze Bacchus Optician to Yelp. I have been going to Feroze Bacchus as recommended by my former eye doctor for over 20 years now. I cannot praise his work highly enough. I say this to many people and it is the truth, until Feroze started filling my eyeglass prescriptions I was not seeing as well as I could have been. I previously filled my prescriptions at a variety of places over the years and have experienced trouble with incorrectly filled prescriptions that were not correctly measured and I could tell as it affected my vision. But once I started going to Feroze, I refused to have my eyeglass prescription filled anywhere else. I frequently buy my eyeglasses elsewhere as I love highly unusual frames but I only allow my eyeglasses prescriptions to be filled by Feroze for the reasons stated above. Feroze has a very large selection of eyeglass frames at his shop and I have bought a number of them over the years. In fact I bought one of my favorite sunglasses frames from him. In addition, Feroze is highly knowledgeable about the available coatings and lenses and is excellent about making suggestions that he thinks will be best suited for you. He is also wonderful about dealing with clients who have a varying range of finances available for eyeglass frames and lenses that have become incredibly expensive over the years. But as I remind myself, this is an investment in my health and everyday life, and I might as well invest wisely. Last but not least, Feroze is one of the absolutely nicest, most pleasant people I have ever met in my life. I enjoy every single interaction with him and always look forward to seeing him again, and thanks at least in part to him, I can see clearly now! read more

Very very rude. I would not recommend this place or this "doctor" to anyone. I called simply to ask the hours since google said he was open until 6:45. He very rudely asked "are you going to believe me or a computer?" I said if get home from work at 5:15, could you stay open? He said he works for himself and not me. read more

Yelp led me to Mr. Bacchus today out of what began as desperation. I was on my last pair of contact lenses, and needed a routine exam at an affordable price since I'm paying out of pocket. Mr. Bacchus did not disappoint! He was very understanding and patient over the phone, taking his time to explain pricing and my options. He was even able to see me at the last minute and gave me a trial pair with my already reasonably priced exam. He was extremely friendly and was actually fun to talk to during what is normally a boring and routine exam (it turns out we're neighbors!). I couldn't recommend this optician enough. In a city where everyone is in and out of their appointments, it's nice to feel like you've got a healthcare provider who cares about you. I will definitely keep going to Mr. Bacchus, and recommend that you all check him out. read more

I had the worst experience here, and was treated very rudely. I called in for an appointment and arrived on time. I didn't know that I needed to bring in my current contact lenses to qualify for a cheaper price. I apologized to the doctor and he explained that he can only offer a $45 exam fee only if I bring my lenses. I said that's fine and explained I never had to do that in the past, so I didn't bring it this time around. I asked that I come back with my lenses next time around. He said that's fine and started asking for my name and address. I asked what the purpose is, which is fully in my right to do so. He balked st me and said in an extremely annoyed tone that I'm being unreasonable and that I don't need an exam. He continued ranting to me that even on the phone when I made the appointment, I asked unnecessary questions and that I'm being rude to him by asking why he needed my address. I was shocked - why in the world is it rude to confirm or even ask why another person needs my personal information? I was also confused. In my phone call, I asked in detail on his service, his rate, and explained exactly what I was looking for. Yes, I was detailed and asked a lot of questions. When is that not ok? I am paying for the service I am looking for. How is that rude? He in fact even continued to say that I'm an unpleasant person. Again, I don't understand how anything I did warrant being called that? I felt that at that instance, he was taking his frustration out on me for no reason. Plus, even if he was frustrated that I'm asking a lot of questions and did not realize I needed my contact lenses, it is absolutely unprofessional to behave the way he did. I left the store utterly disgusted by the treatment. I was treated extremely rudely and am more than happy to go somewhere else to get the same service he provided while being treated courteously. Yes, his price is very affordable and reasonable. But does that warrant him pushing patients around calling them names? I think not. read more

The location is a bit far to reach from the nearest subway station, but for the excellent service one receives at an unbeatable price ($40 for contact lens fitting, etc), it's still worth it. Mr. Bacchus is the sole practitioner of the 20-year old practice and he is not just technically competent but also a great adviser on how to maintain optimum eye health. I had the best experience here. Mr. Bacchus is so pleasant and knowledgeable, he answered all of my questions in depth and went above and beyond.
