The food was ok -- the pancakes were baby sized and we didn't taste the lemon and ricotta they claimed were inside. The WORST PART -- we literally had just finished eating when the pushy used car salesman came to our table to tell us it is a small restaurant and if we wanted to stay we needed to move to the "lounge." Horrible experience, never again. The older host/owner was rude and disrespectful, not just to us but many others as well. I guess some people find him funny and part of the "Babs experience," but we thought the snarky, impatient comments were unnecessary and off-putting. My friend got a very high recommendation for this place so we took a chance for brunch. There was a long line, which initially gave me the impression that it might be worth the wait. The host/owner made a big stink about everyone in the long line knowing what what they wanted before they got to the counter inside. Oh, you have to order before you sit down, would have been nice to have that explained to us without attitude. By the time we got inside (40 minutes later) he took five minutes trying to talk us out of what we had decided to instead order items on the menu that clearly weren't selling. We ordered what we wanted, pre-paid for the meal/drinks and asked to sit outside on the patio (you know, during a pandemic), but he said there was nothing available and wanted to put us at a small table in the corner of the small restaurant literally 4" next to another small table full of diners. We counted 6 open tables outside so we insisted. Of course, that was followed up by more snark and attitude. By this point we were annoyed, hungry and had already ordered so we hoped the food would make up for everything. Fifteen minutes later, the servers bring out two dishes, neither one what we ordered. Not surprisingly, they were the savory dinner dishes that the host tried to convince us to get. The super nice servers apologized and took the food away. More people arrived and were sat outside with us, how convenient. So we continue to talk and wait for our actual orders to arrive. The servers bring out plates of food, but not to our table, to the people that just sat down instead! Remember we prepaid for the meal, so my friend and I complained to the servers. Another 10-15 minutes go by and our orders finally arrive, hand delivered by the rude host. Surprisingly he's nice and (somewhat) apologetic now. He gave some excuse about not wanting to bring us our food earlier without fresh biscuits. So we got hot biscuits...with cold, hard pancakes. Admittedly, the rest of the meal was fine and the servers were super friendly and apologetic. They clearly have to deal with him on a daily basis so I can only imagine how much they have to bite their tongues to keep their jobs. Babs may not be the restaurant for everyone but it's the restaurant for me. Love that I can walk right in and be greeted right away. The menu is fun and rotates, check Facebook for most up to date info. The counter server will help you with recommendations based on your food preferences and allergies. My current favorite is the Filipino style beef pares, I hope they stick around! Extremely flavorful and tender and I found 1 order was enough for 2 servings so are the leftovers the next day. I find it so important to support locally owned businesses and the convenience and deliciousness of Babs makes that an easy mission. I honestly don't understand the good reviews others have left. Maybe there is a totally different kitchen and front of house staff on some days so there is completely different food and service? I've had a terrible experience all 3 times I've given this place a chance. The front desk guy should never be allowed in a customer facing role. He was so rude I wanted to throw something at him. My girlfriend (who he was very aggressive against for not instantly knowing what she wanted right as we walked in) had to practically hold me back. After that the food was a 5/10 at best. I'll start with the good - the wait was short at 10am on a Sunday, the food was good and came quickly, and the server was friendly. But the dominant part of our experience was the man at the counter, who other reviews call Randy. He was rude, condescending, and was off-putting to everyone in our party and other parties we talked to. He was aggravated at us for walking into the restaurant, when the sign clearly directed guests to do so. When we brought this up to him, he was unwilling to listen to feedback. He rushed our ordering and seemed bothered that we had chose to take our business there. After that, it would have taken incredible food to make up for his "customer service." I was visiting from out of town and wanted to try some place "new". When we walked into the restaurant we were "greeted" by a condescending, rude sourpuss by the name of "Randy"? Instead we were pressured to make a decision right on the spot. We offered to let the person behind us go ahead but "The Mad Hatter" became agitated and said no. I hastily ordered whatever. Within 10 minutes our order was brought out. At first I was pleasantly surprised...until I took the first bite. The food had an odd taste and thrown together. I went inside to get something, can't remember what, and "Randy"was coming back from the patio area. I guess he decided to take his "comedy" show on the road and continue to demean the other patrons. Trying to be polite I opened the door for him since he had something in his hands. He went through the door and ask that I close the door because I was Ietting out the air. Really? Unfortunately it was the worst restaurant experience of my life. And I've eaten at a lot of places so this is really saying something. Let me count the ways... 1) When we went inside to order the person I assume to be the owner asked if we wanted sweet or savory. We said both and he listed 5 options as if that was all there was to offer. We were very confused as we could see a stack of menus on the counter which he never offered to us to look over. He looked at us very annoyed and made me uncomfortable so I picked the first thing I saw on the top of the menu. We should have known to leave then. 2) My cappuccino cup still had a full imprint of lipstick from whoever previously drank a cappuccino. 3) I ordered a Chicken, Brie & Arugula wrap. When I received the wrap it was not at all how they described it on the menu. It was a Chicken Salad Wrap, heavy on the mayo, light on the frozen and reheated microwave chicken strips. 4) The side biscuit we ordered was cold. As in came right out of the fridge cold. I must have walked by it hundreds of times yet never paid attention to it until it got on my food radar. The vibe is super cozy and it almost looks like someone's home converted into a restaurant. I got a pretty standard American breakfast with eggs, bacon, and potatoes. It was a simple dish done well but nothing out of the ordinary. Just to see if there was room for our party of 5. We were ushered inside being told that they could make that decision for us and a party of two sitting at a 5 top could be convinced to move elsewhere. Then We were rushed to make a menu choice without really seeing the menu for more than 30 seconds. The price scheme is super shady and I didn't feel Like I could ask. The food, some of it innovative but other items were severely compromised with a substandard ingredient like wrapped AMERICAN cheese slice. Super filling, but in a good way not a "my arteries are going to explode" way. Friend got the andouille sausage something or another which came with naan bread, two eggs and looked sort of like a jambalaya. It was slightly spicy and super tasty. I think it was roughly $13. I came here with my dad about a week ago and upon entering, the man who must be the owner (Randy) looked at us and said "we're closed" even though they were still open for over 30 more minutes. We were slightly rubbed the wrong way but decided to give it another chance today and come in earlier. Today when we walked in he immediately asked "can I help you?" and rolled his eyes. Came here for Easter Brunch and got a delicious meal to fill our bellies and have a lazy Sunday. We ordered the limited edition blueberry bread pudding french toast souffle with blueberry syrup, turkey sausage, eggs, and potatoes. The french toast was so soft and creamy and eggy! I think I was expecting something more big and heavy but it was the perfect amount of food, with generous side servings. I ordered the "eggslut" without cheese, which was essentially eggs, chives, and chipotle mayo on a brioche bun with a side of sweet potato fries with curry sauce. The sandwich was pretty good but the side of fries was spectacular! Super crispy and addicting with the savory curry sauce, that we had to ask for more.
