The waitress was friendly and attentive, but it wasn't instant, and there weren't any special touches. Lastly, my biggest gripe was the table size. First we were seated right under the stairs, and there wasn't even enough room to sit up straight. We requested to move. This was a great brunch and start to our day. My family and I walked here from the Marriott Riverside and wasn't bad at all, especially since we had fans to keep us cool for this July weather. My sister and I ordered mimosas with house-infused wildberry vodka for an extra kick start to our day. It was very good and not sweet at all, it also came in mason jars. For our starters, we went with fried green tomatoes. They came a bed of mixed greens, cajun remoulade, goat cheese crumbles, and a balsamic reduction. The tomatoes were fried perfectly, very crispy, and the tomatoes were fresh and had that nice tangy bite to it. The goat cheese was different but paired very well with the remoulade and balsamic reduction. My sister ordered the kale salad with blackened salmon, my parents both had the lamp post, and I ordered the fried green tomato and crab cake benedict. My order consisted of a layering of a crab cake, fried green tomato, poached egg, and a biscuit with a sauce drizzled on top. So there was a lot going on with this dish but not in a bad way. The crab cake was a little bready for me which I couldn't distinguish if it was the biscuit or not. The egg was poached perfectly and the sauce had a nutty taste but it was a great contrast from the green tomato appetizer. I opted for grits for the side and they were topped with cheese, tomato and green onions. These are stone ground grits, so they are thicker but tasty. Someone definitely seasoned these very well. I would have to say overall it was a good brunch experience. I would try something different like the chicken and biscuit or shrimp and grits next time. This review is for dinner. And I think that is where we made a mistake is the timing of our visit. The brunch reviews are great, we should have come earlier in the day. I debated between a three and four star as everything beyond the food was great. The restaurant is lovely, modern Southern, clean, dark wood, and exposed brick walls. The service was five stars, our server was sweet and completely on top of the table. The drinks were good as well and they had a nice cocktail list. I just wish I like the food better. The menu looked amazing (lots of GF and vegan options), reviews were highly rated, and we couldn't wait to try it for ourselves. The hostess was lovely; friendly and upbeat. Our server wasn't rude but might have been a robot; diving right into the evenings specials without pleasantries or any warmth. We thought, maybe she's new. We saw incredible looking entrees and desserts coming out of the kitchen so we tried to just focus on the food. We ordered the biscuits with the butter and berry jam. The most delicious thing we had! We ordered cocktails and they tasted watered down. I don't know how you water down an old fashion but it was like drinking bourbon flavored water. Then we ordered entrees and they were meh. The ragu lacked complexity and again tasted watered down; the sauce looked thinned out. The risotto had ok flavor but it was runny and the rice wasn't completely finished. There were also "slices" of uncooked garlic (that I thought were almonds until I bit into it). Seems like it was an afterthought. The salmon was cooked well but nothing stood out about the flavor. Overall the service, food and drinks were unseasoned, bland and lacked depth for us. I hope they were just having an off night and other people have a better experience. We visited B Matthew's for brunch before we all went our separate ways after celebrating my best friend's bachelorette. It was a great way to finish our weekend! There was some confusion around reservations. They don't take reservations (at least for brunch), but you CAN call ahead and get on a waiting list, which is what we wound up doing since we knew it'd be busy anyway and we had a fairly large party of 7 coming. It only took about 30 minutes for our table to be ready, which I didn't think was bad at all for around 11 AM on a Sunday. The space is bright and modern and feels very inviting and spacious. The acoustics are good so it's not hard to hear each other even when the restaurant is busy. Service was excellent, from the friendly and personable host to our sweet, energetic, and hardworking waitress. Our glasses were never empty and our food came out fast. She was kind enough to offer to split our tab for us, which really helped ease the burden of trying to settle debts in the aftermath! I was pleased to have my sweet tea to drink. The few people who got cocktails enjoyed their mimosas and their whiskey and coffee. I took a sip of the latter and it was good -- not very sweet, and a pretty strong drink. Overall, the food was super yummy and really pretty affordable (affordable = kind of unusual in Savannah, or so we found, lol!). I didn't keep track of what everyone got, but I know we got two crab benedicts (folks who had it seemed very happy), some kind of biscuits with sausage gravy, some kind of veggie scramble, and more. I got the spicy jalapeño breakfast wrap with no tomatoes and breakfast potatoes as my side. Overall, it was great! The breakfast potatoes were cooked perfectly and well-seasoned. I enjoyed them plain or dipped in ketchup. My wrap was stuffed with goodies and the scrambled eggs were cooked to my liking. My only complaints are very minor. First, there was a little too much avocado for my preference in some bites (made it a little mushy), and second, I didn't actually think it was very spicy, despite the jalapeños and pepperjack cheese. Fortunately, I remedied that myself by applying some of the Texas Pete sriracha (didn't know that was a thing but turns out it's delicious!) I found stocked on the table. Overall, I'd definitely order the wrap again. It was filling, affordable, tasty, and didn't leave me feeling heavy and sluggish, which I was very thankful for on the drive out of town. My wife had the Classic Breakfast and raved about the turkey sausage. Very good coffee (dark roast), seating and service as well. Why isn't B Matthews higher rated for breakfast in Savannah? Two visits this week. We walked in late one night for a beverage and desert. The bartender was awesome and we really enjoyed the Tiramisu. They infuse their own vodka, which my wife greatly enjoyed in her specialty drink. It was a great way to close out our night after a day of walking.
