This is a nice local fly shop that offers equipment, instruction, and even escorted fishing trips to various places locally and globally. I've been here twice and found the staff knowledgeable and friendly. Marc seems like a helpful guy, for example. There's a "sale room" with decent discounts and bunches and bunches of flies for sale in the center near the back. I did not experience any high-pressure sales or condescension that you can see in some shops. Located near the interstate with a moderate amount of tight parking spaces. I emailed a question to them twice without response, so I'd recommend giving them a call if you want to reach out. They may not check email. One can sign up and pay for in-store instruction classes online. If you're looking for a local fly shop, I'd recommend you stop by and see if it works for you. I've unsubscribed, sent STOP texts, and avoided this place in person... they continue to reach out for feedback and send coupons. So, now, they get one. About a year ago, I went in, got my things, and went to check out. The cashier took over 8 minutes to look at his registor and realize it didn't work. He then walked me to the free checkout stand where we stared at eachother for another 3. I told them that I am in a hurry and had to go and left my merchandise on the counter. One of the employee's [woman,blonde,over the hill] chased me into the parking lot with items in hand and proceded to pound on my car window and yell about it. I stepped in a bear trap and it turns out that's a good thing. The team at Az fly shop know their stuff, have the gear and make the experience fun. Lots of information and classes and opportunities. No snobbery allowed, be fun or get out. I brought my daughter in for her birthday because she wants to stand on shore in the quiet and look busy. Lots of help and lots of product. The front is loaded with the good tools that will bring success. The back is stuffed with clothes and ... I didn't go back there because ... phhhht, clothes. Also there is a "shop??" next door that probably isn't trafficking. It isn't the pool store, it's the fly shop. When you get off the 51. be ready to turn right immediately or you''ll be forced to make a U in the "at home" parking lot and end up buying patio furniture or something. Recently relocated to the Phoenix area. Searching for local Fly FIshing store, I found AZ Fly Shop during a "Maps" search. Have visited them on a few occasions to gain local knowledge on fly fishing locations and updated equipment. Everyone has been extremely nice and willing to help. Today I attended their monthly "Specialty Fly Tying Class" and I will have to say Mark Noble was amazing. Not only did we spend time demonstrating various fly patterns, he spent an equal amount of time talking technique and locations to practice with the flies we had tied. I went here today to get my husband some gifts for our anniversary. I don't know anything about fly fishing and was a bit nervous to pick things out, but when I walked up to the front door there was a sign that said "the friendliest fly shop in the world". That is a FACT! The owner, his wife, and other staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and overall just great people. The owner walked around with me for a bit, making polite suggestions, then let me shop and explore their very nice store. Like I said, I don't know anything about fly fishing, but I started asking questions about what the guys were doing, as they were weighing lines in the back - and they explained they were testing the strength and quality of the products. Pretty impressive to me! Once I picked out some "cute" flys, a hat, shirt, and a gift card, the owners wife (shoot, I should have gotten their names, sorry!) even wrapped up everything beautifully. Honestly I was so impressed and appreciated the time they spent with me. My husband had been hearing great things about this shop and wanting to go. Bar none, the staff at AZ Fly Shop are THE FRIENDLIEST! Had a great time talking with Rich about local fishing, casting, float tubes, the works. He was kind enough to show me what flies work locally and "donated" some from his personal collection to get me started. The entire staff just wants you to enjoy yourself fly fishing. We had the best afternoon yesterday. My husband needed a new pair of waders and so we went to the AZ fly shop. As it turns out, my husband was fairly hard to fit and the sales people at the store were amazing. They have a tremendous stock and were very patient and super helpful. My husband tried on many brands and many sizes and finally found one that fit and was perfect. The sales staff even called the manufacturers while we were in the store to see what options my husband had in terms of sizes. They did everything that they could and we had a very successful time. It's nice to see that there are still stores like this around and they have definitely earned our business. If this is how wonderful they are with people who come there to shop I can only imagine how wonderful their fly fishing trips are. We can't wait to travel with them! I have just discovered this business and I have only been in the shop three times. I can tell you that they are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Their willingness to share their knowledge and expertise is very apparent. I took a 2 hour fly fishing course designed for beginners from them. I was taught by a gentleman named Mark. He did an excellent job and I learned a lot. The reason I went into the shop is because I used to fly fish about 30 years ago and have decided to see if I wanted to take it up again. I have most of the necessary equipment but technology has changed and I wanted to see if there was anything I needed to replace or purchase besides new backing, fly lines, and leaders. They made a couple of sound recommendations for a newer rod which made a lot of sense. Everything else that I have including my reels was just fine. My point here is that these guys are not out to just sell you something. They are genuinely interested in helping you to have a good experience enjoying fly fishing. In this day and age, it is a pleasure to find a business that really cares about it's customers! read more
