So I want to start off by saying that my hair stylist(Pasquale) was really nice. She seems very sweet and I was late to my first appointment. They have a 15 min grace window and I was about 10 min late. I told her I wanted a lob and my bangs trimmed (my bangs were how I liked and just needed a trim). Before she cut I said I just want to make sure I can put my hair up. So I was thinking maybe like 3-4 inches below my shoulder is where I pointed to start at the front part because the back would be shorter. She started cutting super fast and literally cut off all my hair in probably 10 minutes. I've tried 4 different stylists here now(2 others left), but her technical skills were ones I haven't seen in ages. Long story short, she cut my hair SUPER short, a little above my shoulder and so I told her to stop because it was too short and a lob would make it even shorter. So it's just hair, but it was not what I wanted and not the length. Then she butchered my bangs and made them too short as well. Then when I got home, I noticed pieces that weren't cut, so I went back(apprehensive) and said please just cut that off and asked if she knew how to thin out the more bulky part of my bangs- specifying the technique other stylist do, where they twist little bits of hair and thin it with sheers) and THEN further said DO NOT MAKE IT SHORTER.. then she took our the serrated scissors which do thin out hair but I literally haven't had a hair stylist since maybe I was 10 and getting my hair cut at Supercuts. And she had me close my eyes and then she cut them even shorter. It was hands down my worst experience here. I've had 2 good stylists here and 2 bad and the only reason I didn't book the last stylist was bc she was booked that time. I wanted my hair to look fresh and cute for my Trip and now I'll be hiding it as best I can in a corgi tail pony and trying to hide these butchered bangs. Oh and she is very pushy on re booking the appointment and I even said I don't think my hair will even be at a length that I like in 2 or 3 months. I'm so deeply disappointed with Aya salon's management. I had a root touch up that was overdue and a new stylist did a very off job giving my golden brown hair burgundy roots. I nicely called to see if it can be fixed and sent pics of my hair. In response I got a crazy nasty email to never return to their salon due to bullying their stylist, and that I should've been charged for a whole hair dye instead of roots, as it's been too long. No one communicated that to me, and I barely talked to the stylist. I still can't really believe this actually happened! So upsetting! read more

I have been going to Michelle King for at least 5 years for my cuts, color and regular blowouts. She is without a doubt the best hair stylist I have had in the Bay Area in my 20 years living here. She used to be at Posh salon which was a 5 min walk from my house in SF - she recently Moved to Aya salon in Berkeley and I Visited her there a couple of weekends ago to get my color done- I am willing to Drive the extra 45 min just for her to do my hair! No one is better - her cuts and color and highlights are incredible and I get so many Compliments since going to her. She is meticulous, talented and genuinely lovely! I just got a complimentary haircut as a demo for the (fingers crossed) new hire of this salon. Jenny was very warm, friendly and gave me the cutest Bob hair cut. I really love it :) I hope they hire her because she is so talented. Made me feel younger and good about myself. Would love to return and be in the hands of Jenny! The salon is beautiful and so lovely and comfortable. Staff is friendly and very courteous. Highly recommend this place. And ample street parking outside! I had been getting help from the salon about a hair appointment gone wrong and when things didnt get better and I asked for the stylist information they didnt provide it to me. They blamed me for them not communicating after visit instructions. They sent an email saying their will be no further communications when I said I felt i was a victim of negligence. I will be taking them to court. The system wont let me reply to charlene but ill put it here since im blocked from replying to her: Our email conversations say exactly what I was asking for, you're the one thats confused. I also haven't had multiple services at your salon. I had one service that went poorly and I gave your salon a chance by having a more experienced stylist fix it and she damaged my hair instead. This is negligence and im being super clear, I want you to make this right. You wont reply to an email so yes im threating you with a lawsuit. Also Stomp outside? I said stand outside with a sign showing the public the level of service you preformed. Im a bull horn owner. I demand a refund of services preformed or im going to take you to small claims court & contact the local news, If I have to take you to court I will seek emotional damages. I dont want to but look at the way you're acting, you wont even give me the stylist info so I can proceed I can file a complaint to a consumer agency. Im not falling apart, im standing up for myself and I feel a reasonable person will agree. Refund me or ill see you in court read more

I went it to get highlights and was VERY clear I did not want bold. for reference I have brown hair and existing highlights. I told her I wanted them touched up and slightly lighter but wanted to keep them natural looking and blended, not too thick. the final product was essentially blonde, and I even noticed some orange pieces in my hair. The highlights underneath were blocks and not blended at all. This was not at all what I wanted and when I told my stylist Molly she was very cold and decided to tone my hair. I have now DARK brown hair and the highlights are gone. I felt that all I did was damage my hair and leave with darker hair which is the opposite of what I wanted. When I asked to get my money back they called the owner but have not refunded me. I will not be going back. read more

I love this salon & have been a satisfied customer for many years. Elon is great! She really listens to what you want and solicits feedback about what worked or didn't work about a particular style. What I really love about this place is that if your regular stylist is not available, you can work with someone else and there's no weird vibe or feeling that you have "betrayed" your stylist (if you know what I mean!) I have thick curly hair and was looking for a fresh cut. I couldn't be happier with Arianna. Ive had many cuts but my hair alway looked kinda flat. Now I gotta say I love it, Ive also have gotten many compliments on my haircut it's really fun. The way Arianna has layered my hair, the curls just fall beautifully. Just visited Aya salon for my first time and I LOVED it. Prices are extremely reasonable, service was friendly and attentive and end results were amazing. I usually find myself over explaining what I want my hair cuts to look like and the stylist say they see the vision but I get a totally different end result. Pascale was the total opposite. She listened to what I wanted, asked lots of questions and constantly checked to make sure I was happy with the direction the cut was going in. Plus they give complementary tea, water and mimosas! I have been coming to Aya for a 1.5 years, religiously getting my roots touched, hair cut, or glossed. I have been seeing Sarah as my main girl (all are excellent). Sarah though is the one hairdresser where I don't have to tell her where my part is and if I have to come in with "root" spray she just takes care of it.
