I got a kids scoop of Pineapple Pandan (Spring Seasonal Flavor 2026) & my fiancé got a double scoop of Vanilla & Salted Caramel. I'm vegan, my fiancé is not. He said he'd rather have this ice cream than dairy, and other vegan ice creams we've had. SCORE! This ice cream was delicious. I tried nearly every flavor! Creamy, cold, soft. Being coconut milk based, there wasn't a background coconut flavor to any ice cream I tried (which was great because sometimes coconut milk based ice creams have the coconut undertone). Perfect ice cream texture. I appreciate that they have flavors that change with the season. I love that each flavor came with a dedicated topping (mine came with a freeze dried pineapple & the salted caramel came with grated palm sugar). This Awan is operated out of a window connected to the Day Glow coffee shop (look for the blue building)! No dedicated parking lot, so street parking only. Outdoor & indoor seating available.
If you're looking for artisanal vegan ice cream that tastes good, then you're in the right place. This location is tucked away around the corner. Look for the blue Dayglow building, and you're in the right place. I came here because a friend recommended it. I had no idea it was vegan until I realized that all of the ice creams were made of coconut milk. My partner doesn't like vegan food but he enjoyed the ice cream. There were some interesting seasonal flavors, but I really wanted vanilla that day. Because the ice cream is made with coconut milk, my ice cream tasted more like coconut ice cream with a hint of vanilla, and very different from typical dairy ice cream that I realized just tastes like milk and vanilla. I'd be interested in returning to taste the other flavors to see if coconut is still the dominant flavor or not. But it's not a place that I would go out of my way for. It's more of a place that I'd drop by if I was in the neighborhood. I'm also not a big ice cream person so take that as you will.
I am not being hyperbolic when I say this, but as someone who has had a LOT of great ice cream in their life, Awan was probably the best ice cream I've ever had. Full stop. This place is a SUPER mom n pop Indonesian inspired ice cream place. You order at a little hole in the wall nook, but there is plenty of open indoor-outdoor style seating next to it. I believe everything is also vegan/coconut based! Now to the best ice cream I've had in my life: the one that ranks above them all is their collab with REM Beauty by Ariana Grande called "LOVE SPELL". It is Gula Jawa and Hibiscus flavored. The floral! The sweet! The hint of tangy! I quite literally experienced sensations that I've never tasted, kind of like Remy from Ratatouille during the synesthesia sequence. I loved it so much I went right back at bought a pint for $25. This is my petition to make this a forever flavor instead of seasonal!!! This was WAY too good of a flavor to be temporary!!! I also got the Satsuma Mandarin. WOW. The little dried slice of orange on top was the cherry on top. Lmao. Perfectly balanced sweet with tangy, and esp as someone who generally dislikes citrus flavors, this was a BANGER. Honestly...I'm still thinking about this ice cream. The flavors are so unique, so much so that I feel that it is quite literally art. I wish there was a location in the San Fernando Valley because I would be there all. the. time. I cant wait to go back!!!
Wow! this is some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted! They have some very unique flavors. At the time when I came, I got a lavender flavored ice cream. I love that you can check out the latest flavors on their website or Instagram. The staff was very friendly and also patient while my friends and I decided on a flavor. I can't wait to come back and try a new flavor :)
SERVICE - located in West Hollywood slightly away from the busier strip of bars and restaurants - tucked into a corner behind the coffee shop in front - parking available on street or in a nearby lot - seating available in covered area or outdoor MENU - Indonesian inspired coconut based frozen desserts - all vegan/vegetarian - average price FOOD - thai tea black sesame butter crunch (/10): thai tea base with black sesame paste and cornflakes folded in. The combination of thai tea and black sesame are both bitter so when paired with the sweet coconut it made for a balanced flavored dessert. I had also tried the plain vanilla flavor but found it too sweet. WOULD I GO BACK? Possibly. I liked some of the flavors that had more bitter notes but it was not my favorite dessert.
If you're not specifically looking for this place, you will definitely miss it, lol. It's tucked away into a corner (literally) and it's just a take-out window haha. I love how interesting their flavors are, and the girl helping us was so sweet and let us try as many as we liked! We were able to try the gaviota strawberry, dayglow coffee, thai tea + black sesame butter, nekohama hojicha, and shinko pear + ginger. Their ice cream flavors really pack a punch and everything was so flavor-forward (no delicate or mild flavors here!) I ended up getting their strawberry (so basic, but so good and refreshing), and my husband got the thai tea + black sesame butter (I loved the Thai tea part, but the black sesame was too heavy and rich for me, haha). I feel like you can't go wrong with any of their flavors! There's a little area to sit and enjoy the ice cream, otherwise I'd recommend just taking it to-go. Parking here is atrocious, even for LA standards. We came on a weekday night and there was absolutely no parking. While I liked the ice cream, not sure if I'd brave the parking situation to come back, lol.
8/28/2025 First time at Awan. Had it on my must-go-to list for so long! Went on a Monday afternoon. After trying Awan on Melrose Ave, it was closed. There was a note telling me that it will open at 4:00pm instead of the usual 3:00pm, so I've decided to reroute to the one at Huntley Dr., which was a huge mistake! Traffic was crazy and parking is crazier! Finally parked in a neighborhood closeby, which had parking permit signs everywhere, took a huge risk and parked. Sampled a few before deciding. The Awan employee was very patient. NEKOHAMA HOJICHA (Kids Scoop, 3oz) Cannot tell it had coconut in it! Love the creamiess of this ice cream! Very creamy and barely any coconut flavor! The hojicha was from Nekohama and it was a good quality hojicha! SPLIT SCOOP - BALINESE VANILLA BEAN This had a lovely, rich vanilla bean flavor. It has coconut cream in it, but I could barely taste the coconut flavor. On top of the ice cream was sprinkled gula jawa (unrefined palm sugar) which was unnecessary, as I liked the flavor as it was. Love the creamy, luxurious mouthfeel! Simply delicious! PEACH + APRICOT SWIRL This was my favorite! Full of peach flavor! So good! It was a though you're biting into a fully ripened peach on a hot summer's day! Incredibly fruity, flavorful, peachy! The apricot swirl added a lovely apricot zing to it! But most of it tastes like peachy ice cream. Loved it so much, I bought a pint of it. Samples tried: Gaviota Strawberry, Dayglow Coffee, Gula Jawa Salted Caramel, Hibiscus. Out of the ones I've tried, I liked Dayglow Coffee the most. CUSTOMER SERVICE Asked for a few samples and were generously given various samples. Good customer service all around. Friendly and kind! LOCATION / SEATS / PARKING This was an odd location, as it was in a small corner next to Dayglow Coffee. There are outdoor table and seats. Parking is very difficult, as already mentioned. You can park very far away and walk or park in the neighborhood parking, which has permit parking only signs all around. I took a risk and parked somewhere that did not directly have that sign over it, yet it felt a bit risky, as majority of that neighborhood had a no parking without permit sign. Personally, I would recommend a different location. I definitely want to return to Awan, but to a different location due to parking issues.
GREAT ice cream option for people who are vegan, lactose intolerant, or just want to avoid animal fat. This tiny ice cream shop hides in the back of busy Hollywood streets. It's not easy to get to, and parking is extremely difficult in this area. For those who can conquer those difficulties, and find this small place, which does not have its own storefront, you get to enjoy some heavenly and unusual flavors! The night we went there was only one server! She struggled to help everyone who kept coming up to the window while she was trying to take a break! I've never seen an ice cream shop so small and with just one server! Maybe the business is still building! Best luck to them though!
AWAN is an ice cream shop with Indonesian inspired flavors and ice creams are all vegan and gluten-free. They currently have three locations - West Hollywood, Larchmont, and Venice. 4th location in Chinatown coming soon. This is the flagship location for AWAN. [Parking]: Street parking only. I found metered parking spots a block away (Westbourne Dr). [Atmosphere]: This is an actual hole-in-a-wall spot as the walk-up window is located right next to Dayglow coffee shop. AWAN and Dayglow share the seating area together so there's a common space to sit & enjoy ice cream. [Menu]: On the day of my visit, they ran out of all popular flavors like Chocolate Oreo and only had 6 flavors left (out of 10 flavors). The cashier said they will restock flavors in ... couple weeks. I sampled few flavors and ended up with vanilla bean. Kids scoop is 3 ounce for $6, single scoop is 5 ounce for $8, and split scoop is 6 oz for $10. *** Balinese Vanilla Bean (signature flavor made with Indonesian coconut water & coconut cream finished with shavings of gula jawa - an unrefined palm sugar; kids scoop 3 ounce for $6): I could taste a subtle flavor profile, but personally it tasted too dense and overly sweet. I did like gula jawa, but ice cream itself was way too sweet and I actually didn't finish the entire scoop. *** Super friendly cashier, but I prefer other Asian inspired ice cream shops like Wanderlust Creamery (multiple locations in LA) and Kansha Creamery in Gardena.
A really small ice cream shop that is located right next to a coffee shop. I almost missed it at first until I saw a sign with an arrow pointing. They have a small seating area which was nice since we were able to get out of the heat for a while. Unfortunately, I didn't know they offered samples. I would've loved to try their flavors before ordering. I liked that they offered split scoop, so I ended up ordering the hojicha and coffee. The hojicha honestly tasted a little weird, and left an interesting aftertaste. Both flavors weren't overly sweet and were extremely creamy. I think I would've enjoyed it more if they were sweeter though.
Came here the other day while we were in the area as people wanted ice cream and wanted to try Awan. First, parking is right, trying to find somewhere to park just to hop out and grab the ice cream, but such is this area of Los Angeles. The shop, itself, is pretty small, right next to a coffee shop, so don't get them mixed up. There wasn't anyone in line in front of us so we were able to order immediately. We tried different ice creams from strawberry and vanilla to coffee and chocolate Oreo. The ice cream was nice and creamy, decent flavor but there was a word after taste ish with the strawberry. The chocolate pretty was good, the coffee tastes like dude, not really standing out from other coffee flavored ice creams. The vehicle has a nice crumble on top. But, for the price point, I would say it was not worth it, especially with so many other ice cream locations around Los Angeles. In the end, decent ice cream, high price point. You just need to decide for yourself if it is worth it to you or not
This is a really small ice cream shop, but the long line makes perfect sense once you try it. I had the vanilla coconut ice cream and it was absolutely heavenly--so creamy and full of flavor. There's also a small seating area prepared, which made it nice to enjoy on the spot. I sampled a couple of other flavors, but the coconut was by far my favorite. Totally worth the wait, and I'd definitely come back just for that flavor alone.
Probably the best quality vegan ice cream in LA! Everything is super silky & creamy, but ... IMO not worth the price ($8 for single, $10 for split) unless you're truly lactose intolerant. I think there are better "upscale" ice cream shops with more novelty and culturally inclusive flavors (like Wanderlust), which is what i look for in an ice cream place versus going to the supermarket. The menu here may seem intriguing but at the end of the day flavors named "gaviota strawberry" and "dayglow matcha" just taste like store-bought strawberry and matcha ice cream to me unfortunately. I did enjoy the Blueberry Lavender & Saffron Pistachio but nothing was extraordinarily unique. This is just my preference in ice cream though (i.e. not a Vanilla person). I would come back if they had cooler flavors next season or something, and/or if I suddenly became lactose intolerant! read more
WHEN: Tues @9:45pm This tiny brick and mortar serves Vegan and Gluten-free ice cream that is Indonesian coconut based. It is a bit hidden so be on the lookout! Because it was a weeknight, we lucked out on metered parking right in front. I had just flown into LAX so we were rushing to get to this place, and made it just minutes before closing! Surprisingly there was a good amount of people that came in after us! Go figure because it was the last day of their special flavor. It was Strawberry Week, so they created a flavor based on Oishii's Omakase Berry, a very sweet Japanese strawberry grown in the world's largest indoor vertical strawberry farm, that was introduced with Japanese fruit culture. SO fancy, I know. To give an idea, a regular vanilla scoop is $5, and a scoop of Oishii flavor is $12. They created various combos of the oishii berry flavor, from matcha, to lemon and even black sesame. Here's what I went for: PURE OISHII BERRY - $12 It's probably the best strawberry flavor ice cream I've had...I think because of that price tag, haha. I do taste that coconut base ice cream but it goes well with the strawberry. Oh what's nice if you get a whole oishii berry on top so you get to experience what the fruits tastes like! It...tastes like a sweet strawberry. Texture is very smooth like gelato, but less of the guilt I suppose, haha. I enjoyed this, and would like to come back for their other featured flavors, or just their simple Balinese vanilla scoop. read more

Cute little vegan ice cream place! It was my first time trying vegan ice cream and it was pretty good! They make all their ice creams with coconut milk/cream. Depending the flavor, it can taste pretty coconuty. We got the strawberry one since it masked the coconut flavor more. It was super creamy and delicious! read more
100% plant-based (not) ice cream located in West Hollywood. This place feels like you're ordering dessert at a speak easy. The 'ice cream' here is coconut based and tastes super creamy. I honestly probably would not have found this place if our group wasn't specifically looking for dessert after dining at a vegan restaurant in the area. Heck, even after we found the place on Yelp, we almost walked right past it. We noticed the line leading down a narrow alley way off to the side of Santa Monica Blvd. I ordered the chocolate OREO and Balinese vanilla bean. Such a great combo and so surprising Oreos are vegan. I even sampled the strawberry, which was also very good. The folks here were super friendly and helpful. The interaction was minimal because I was trying to move through the line quickly because of the wait behind me, but the exchange was pleasant. Even though this place just has a handful of flavors, I think they do them really well. Definitely would love to come back to try the other flavors when I'm in the area. read more

Great vegan Ice cream spot in La! The interior and exterior of this place was build to feel like you're enclosed in a cave which was definitely was a unique touch- you'd never expect this to be an ice cream spot. You could tell that these flavors (Matcha & Coconut) still tasted like they were vegan if that makes sense- I believe the cream or milk that they used had a bit of a sour taste? Not to the point where it was spoiled , but you can tell it is dairy free so be prepared that it won't taste exactly like regular ice cream. I still thought it was pretty good , and honestly my favorite part was the coconut shavings that were shaved manually in front of me on top of the coconut ice cream. It definitely screamed high end ice cream shop which was an experience. Not sure if I would go here all the time, but definitely worth it to check out! read more
Wow, some of the best vegan ice cream I've had since Seattle's Frankie and Jo's! The consistency is thick and creamy. The base is coconut milk and very light. The flavors of the ice cream also come through really well! I enjoyed everything I sampled, but these 2 were my favorites. The matcha was so fragrant and it's probably the BEST vegan matcha ice cream I've ever had. read more

My kids took me to AWAN after brunch. It was just a short walk from Queen Violet. Although it's a small window tucked away in the back of a coffee shop, we didn't have any trouble finding it. There was no line when we arrived. The menu is small and a little hard to see. My husband and kids ordered the Balinese Vanilla Bean. My daughter-in-law chose the Evergreen Melon, while I had the White Nectarine. The wait seemed a little long for ice cream as they seem to take their time in the toppings and presentation. Overall, really good -- creamy, flavorful and refreshing. You really don't miss the dairy. My only small complaint is that my order (White Nectarine) didn't have any toppings. I was told that they ran out, but this was after everything was paid for and my order was the last to come out. It would have been nice to be informed beforehand so I could have decided on something different. read more
The orange ice cream was actually so yummy. I am not a fan of ice cream - i just wanted to take my parents here, and i really fell in love with it. The rose water date ice cream was also good but a little less dynamic. They make the flavoring right then and there (ie crushing the pistachios) which makes it taste even better! read more

This might be my new favorite ice cream place in town! "Awan" means cloud in Indonesian, and the ice cream tastes and feels exactly like that. Using a coconut cream and water base, each scoop is silky smooth and creamy. I tried the Valencia orange and gula jawa (palm sugar). The gula jawa blew me away, but I was also impressed with the Valencia orange, as I typically don't like orange-flavored ice cream! The main drawback of this place is the price, however, I still think it's worth coming from time to time to try out their new flavors. If you have trouble finding it, it's right next to Dayglow coffee shop. Look down the ramp to the left, and it's a little window shop! There is a bench and table outside, and when open, you can also sit in Dayglow. read more

Holy moly. I don't usually enjoy fruit flavored ice cream , some strawberry flavors aside, but both the blood orange and the raspberry were amazing here. I didn't taste much of the coconut bar in either of them. They were both so creamy and beautifully textured. I'm a convert on the fruit flavors thanks to Awan! The chocolate chip was a chocolate chocolate chip and it was stellar. Big ribbons of dark chocolate in a smooth super creamy rich chocolate base with a chunk of dark chocolate as a garnish. Just outrageously good. I could taste the coconut bar more in this one, but it complemented the chocolate and made it really unique. Bottom line is I would go back here any day and try any flavor on offer. So good. SO Good. Major bonus is that I felt great afterwards, no sugar crash, no lethargy, no digestive issues...just sweet sweet enjoyment! I'm so happy to have found this place! And it takes some finding, too... It's inside the Daylight coffee shop, which is down an odd ramp off the side street in a blue building behind the bondage shop on the corner read more

WHERE HAS THIS PLACE BEEN ALL MY LIFE? It's vegetarian/vegan(?) ice cream that uses coconut as a fat but doesn't taste like it at all. 10/10 would come back again. Unique flavors and tastes like there's milk in it but really there isn't. Tastes more like gelato I would say so extremely aerated. Hella good ice cream. It's not hyped. read more
I cant believe this place is hidden in plain sight. Ive walked by so many times, but all they have is a tiny window stuck next to a coffee shop. They let you taste the flavors before you choose one and i really appreciate that they use metal tasting spoons that can be washed rather than disposable ones like most places. The flavors are delicious. You can get a baby scoop for $5 which is just enough for me. read more
You would not know AWAN is vegan ice cream if you did not know, it's that good. It's a quaint location in WeHo, right next to Dayglow Coffee. The service is great, the worker was so nice, and the ice cream tastes so good. I tried the birthday cake and the chocolate oreo, and both were great. While I love this place, this last experience was a let down. Ordered a scoop to go plus 2 pints to take home. I opened up one of the pints to eat on the way home and it was already missing a whole scoop (refer to picture). How disappointing at $20/pint. Not sure what happened here, but tried to contact them via google number and no one picked up. No number on yelp and no contact info on the website. read more

Love that the flavors are vegan and gluten free! Definitely think they should open up a couple more spots as the line was quite long and only one person serving and being cashier. Favorites were the vanilla gula jawa and the coffee one but be aware they rotate flavors so sometimes they may not have that exact flavors you want. read more
A cool ice cream spot to check out in West Hollywood! Had trouble finding it at first but once you locate Dayglow Coffee go down the flight of stairs to the window. When we first arrived no one was at the counter but someone came after a moment. We got to try some samples before deciding on a split scoop of Valencia orange and greenglow matcha. Both flavors were creamy and surprisingly meshed well together, and while I love supporting small businesses and get that operation costs are high, $10 for two 3-oz scoops is definitely pricey. read more

honestly, these flavors are really interesting. definitely not for everyone, however i enjoyed trying the ones i did and getting the ones i liked. the server was very patient with me, considering how indecisive i am, so im very thankful for how helpful he was. the aesthetics are so cool, and im glad i got to try this spot read more
A little hole-in-the-wall that I consistently enjoy getting ice cream from! My favorites are the Vanilla (which I believe is a year-round flavor), matcha, lavender, and mango (the latter 3 are on seasonal rotation). It's perfectly creamy and flavorful every single time, and the staff are incredibly friendly. The line can get pretty long and there's usually only 2 people working at any given time. A couple of chairs/tables right outside and street parking on the block. read more

So tasty!!! Have been told by non vegans that this is their fav ice cream spot in LA. It's not overly coconut-y, which I was worried about cuz I'm not the biggest coconut gal. Got a super tasty marzipan flavor. It's a little pricey but worth it for the quality and to support local! It's just a walk up window (that is super cute, tho) so don't plan to eat inside. Server wasn't overly friendly but did let me sample a few flavors :) read more
Been waiting to try this place and finally made it tonight. Parking can be tough as it is on sunset but we were able to park in the neighborhood. Came around 7pm on a Sunday and just beat the line as it got busy when we were leaving. Its just a storefront and you order from a window. They had super interesting flavors and we were able to sample each one. Great service, the woman helping us was very nice. The citrus caviar was so tasty and refreshing and the consistency was perfect. The mint Oreo was also delicious and I love the way they garnish. This is a really cool hidden spot and worth the try! read more

I ordered four pints with shipping to Hawaii and my Awan arrived perfect like I'd just picked it up at the shop window! Communication about shipping and tracking was also great. I was able to grab it as soon as it arrived so it didn't sit out in the heat. I'm so excited I can get my Gaviota fix even though I've moved away and will definitely order again! read more

I stumbled upon this small shop during CicLAvia in August and I was so impressed. As you can imagine, I was walking in the sweltering heat, so when I saw a sign that said ICE CREAM, I took a sharp turn and stopped to get a cold treat. The flavors on the menu were so creative and the staff let me try a bunch of them before making a decision. The flavors change all the time. They're made with Indonesian coconut, vegan and gluten free! I got the melon cream soda and peach flavors and it was so refreshing on such a hot day. I savored every bite. Not only was the ice cream delicious, the presentation is so cute, too! Next time I'm in the area, I'm definitely paying AWAN another visit. read more
