The place has gone so far downhill. There used to be this large menu with tons of options. That is now gone. About three months ago, a friend & I had to ask for a clean fork three times over the course of five minutes. Staff were too busy arguing or acting perplexed why a person that drops a fork would need a new one. Apparently being asked to do your job is an unreasonable request? And today? Just a few hours ago, a woman asked for food without gluten. She clearly said no gluten and that she had Celiac's . They served her gluten. The manager came over and said "I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened." I think it's clear what happened - your staff screwed up and your stupidity could have gotten someone killed, had it been that kind of allergy. The restaurant seems run by people lacking basic aptitude. They've cut much of the menu, the prices are outrageous. And nobody seems to want to do their actual job anymore. And worst of all? I've been a loyal Hugo's patron for almost 20 years now and I'm still not tired of it. Every since I left LA and moved to Orange County, whenever I need to meet up with someone I throw out the Studio City or West Hollywood Hugo's locations as an option for where to eat. My husband is from NJ and longs for the diners he was used to back east, but for me places like Hugo's and House of Pies are what I would long for if I moved across the country. It doesn't get more LA than Hugo's where you can get healthy food, have a dog sitting under the table next to you (indoors) and a big shot actor sitting at the table behind you. Hugo's is an underrated gem in the city that has every meal you could ever think of in its menu! I love that the food here is consistently delicious, filling portions while being relatively healthy and its vegan friendly. My favorites are the Turkey Meatballs and Spaghetti and the Salmon dish. One of my favorite places to have breakfast in West Hollywood! Legendary for its healthy and delicious food...and great juices. It's so nice and cozy inside. They also have such a nice little terrace outside. If you love great pasta, and love eggs for breakfast, you have to try their 'pasta mama' or the 'pasta papa'. Classic breakfast dishes they have been serving for at least 35 years. Perfectly al dente spaghetti tossed with scrambled eggs, Parmesan cheese, and scallions. The pasta papa also has bacon and turkey sausage. It's so delicious for breakfast. The service here is always excellent. I ordered a fresh ginger lemonade and they even gave me an extra lemonade to go. Free parking in their lot just behind the restaurant. Enter on Kings Road just north of Santa Monica Blvd. Another nice thing about this restaurant is you can earn airline miles and points so don't forget to add your credit card to your favorite Airline or Hotel Miles dining program! $30 for a veggie burger? I've been coming here for years. I've watched Sarah and Kim grow into young professionals. I remember the warm rolls, butter, and jam, and when a veggie burger with fries cost $12. I'm not expecting yesterday's prices. I understand inflation. But there's a difference between raising prices and nickel-and-diming loyal customers. Now it's another dollar for EACH add-on that used to be included. Cheese? Extra. Toppings? Extra. Dipping sauce? Extra. Want the same burger you've always ordered? Apparently, that's extra too. And the little notice explaining the changes? Pretty weak. What used to be a $20 meal is now pushing $30. That's 50% more for essentially the same meal. Here's the thing: the veggie burger was never extraordinary. It didn't need to be. You came for the familiar faces, good service, and comfort of a neighborhood spot. At some point, you stop feeling like a valued regular and start feeling like an opportunity for another upcharge. I didn't keep coming back for the best veggie burger in town. I came back because this felt like my neighborhood restaurant. And that's the real disappointment. Total throwback and a place that just makes you happy. Went for a later supper and great to find easy parking in the back and though we made a reses there was plenty of seating available so no problem. Started off with the Hugo's fresh green tea served in a French Press and it was perfect for a cold December night and then had went for a taste of nostalgia with the turkey meatloaf dinner. Couple of thick cuts of meatloaf served with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed veggies and subtle mushroom gravy to make it a real party. Well seasoned and went down easy, but just enough to not want to have any dessert which I was hoping for but have to do it next time. Great service and very quick from seating to paying the bill. Hugo's in West Hollywood has been around for a very long time. And one thing is consistent with this restaurant; really good food with quality ingredients. I've not been here since before the pandemic, and Hugo's is still providing great meals to large crowds. I'm here this morning with nine other friends on a Saturday late morning. The place is busy, but they were able to accommodate us in under five minutes. Talk about great timing. We were promptly seated and offered menus and water. Myself, along with a friend, each ordered the Protein Scramble. See picture of menu for descriptions. The portions were large and arrived very hot. Perfect. We both enjoyed our breakfast. The breakfast potatoes were crispy and delicious. I had toast with my scramble and my friend paid $3 extra for a single Pumpkin Pancake. Another friend next to me had the Scrambled Egg Sandwich with fries. He said it was okay and didn't really elaborate why it was just "okay." It looked good, but missing some type of protein; perhaps bacon. Another friend had the Pasta Papa. A large portion of food and he said it tasted great and fresh. It was so much food that he took the remainder to go. Other meals at the table were a hamburger, two breakfast burritos, and a Create-Your-Own-Scramble. I heard no complaints from anyone regarding their meals. The service was very good considering we were a party of ten. Katia was very friendly, personable, and attentive. We really enjoyed ourselves here! Came around 12 pm on a Saturday and it was pretty full! We got the last table on the patio (which is dog friendly btw) and I think the inside had a bit of a wait. Our server Matt was super nice and prompt. The menu is super friendly for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten intolerant folks. Like so many options. I got a vegan Reuben with their homemade gluten free rye bread and house made vegan salami. It was really good!! but it was $22...my partner's vegan breakfast sandwich was good but he said it was def not the best he has had and it was pricier than most. I love Hugo's! I came alone this time because I was working nearby and their happy hour is literally the best!!!! They have happy hour everyday from 4pm-7pm! I usually get the chicken strips with fries but today I got the nachos with chicken and I enjoyed them sooo much! I also got the Strawberry Cucumber Cooler and I loved it! We were back in the area for our daughter's performance. We had an hour to kill so we stopped in to Hugo's. We arrived and my wife requested the patio. Patio is covered and is dog friendly. It's also the perfect spot for people watching. Water was poured and we looked over the menu. Mimosa for my wife and a French 75 for me. The mimosa is served with a split of Chandon and a tiny carafe of orange juice. It was enough for 2 drinks. The French 75 was good. We decided to just order a couple of appetizers. Asian spring rolls and chicken strips basket. The spring rolls were packed carrots lettuce cucumbers some noodles and mint. There was a peanut dipping sauce served with the dish. The roll was good but I found the peanut sauce to be too salty. The chicken strips were more like a katsu. It was a thin chicken breast, breaded and fried then cut into strips. The chicken sat on top of a bed of fries. The fries were good but both the chicken and fries were under seasoned. My main complaint was the lack of service. No small plates until we were almost done with the meal I finished my French 75 about halfway through the meal. I then proceeded to finish my water and still no server to be found. My first time at Hugo's in valley village The staff that we got was super attentive and helpful when it came to us asking for different things or helping us make some food choices. We had a group of 12 and was sat in the patio. Food Order: My horchata latte was so refreshing love it The chocolate chip pancakes were my favorite so fluffy and with just the right amount of sweetness! The chilaquiles were ok, for me not too much flavor I had to add a good amount of hot sauce to add a little taste. Bathrooms were pretty clean. Patio and indoor seating , parking lot available and street parking is available too. Our big group couldn't do separate checks so one person had to pay the full bill. The fried pickles were so delicious that I still think about them. I also ordered their spring rolls which were phenomenal. For my main meal I ordered their burger and I was so excited to eat it that I forgot to take a picture but trust me it was so good! For dessert I had their chocolate cake and let me tell you I haven't had a gf/df chocolate cake that heavenly in years! It was wonderful! I always love stopping in at Hugo's! They have the absolute best happy hour -- drinks as low as $4 and cheap yet delicious eats, too! I especially like the gluten-free chicken tenders and the spring rolls from the happy hour menu, and their (non-alcoholic) strawberry lemonade is to die for. After the month we have had, we are all experiencing some PTSD in Los Angeles. Where did we want to go to get that feel-good-everything-is-going-to-be-OK vibe? Hugo's. I don't know why anyone rates this less than 5 stars, honestly. I love everything about it: location (on a busy corner in Hollywood), longevity (yeah, it's OG vintage 1980), the bright, cozy, warm, fresh interior, the incredible menu (especially for a vegetarian like me), and the quality and uniqueness of every dish. I think my photos will speak for themselves. The service was top notch and friendly, the music atmosphere was somehow upbeat and calming at the same time, everything was spotless and it was the kind of place where you can let yourself breathe and relax. We took my Mom there for brunch and the food, service, and drinks were A plus!! We had Eskadare as our server and she was so wonderfully pleasant, attentive, and very kind. Always had a smile on her face and always made sure we were good and had everything we needed. My husband got the turkey hash that had kale in it and it was so flavorful. My Mom and I both the create your own omelette then shared the French toast. For drinks I had the Aperol Spritz, Mom had a Mimosa, and husband had a beer and an old fashion. My food came and there was no ranch, but I didn't care that much and just used some leftover from an appetizer. Come to find out they charged me $1 for ranch that I never got.
