I got a kids scoop of Pineapple Pandan (Spring Seasonal Flavor 2026) & my fiancé got a double scoop of Vanilla & Salted Caramel. I'm vegan, my fiancé is not. He said he'd rather have this ice cream than dairy, and other vegan ice creams we've had. SCORE! This ice cream was delicious. I tried nearly every flavor! Creamy, cold, soft. Being coconut milk based, there wasn't a background coconut flavor to any ice cream I tried (which was great because sometimes coconut milk based ice creams have the coconut undertone). Perfect ice cream texture. I appreciate that they have flavors that change with the season. I love that each flavor came with a dedicated topping (mine came with a freeze dried pineapple & the salted caramel came with grated palm sugar). This Awan is operated out of a window connected to the Day Glow coffee shop (look for the blue building)! No dedicated parking lot, so street parking only. Outdoor & indoor seating available.
If you're looking for artisanal vegan ice cream that tastes good, then you're in the right place. This location is tucked away around the corner. Look for the blue Dayglow building, and you're in the right place. I came here because a friend recommended it. I had no idea it was vegan until I realized that all of the ice creams were made of coconut milk. My partner doesn't like vegan food but he enjoyed the ice cream. There were some interesting seasonal flavors, but I really wanted vanilla that day. Because the ice cream is made with coconut milk, my ice cream tasted more like coconut ice cream with a hint of vanilla, and very different from typical dairy ice cream that I realized just tastes like milk and vanilla. I'd be interested in returning to taste the other flavors to see if coconut is still the dominant flavor or not. But it's not a place that I would go out of my way for. It's more of a place that I'd drop by if I was in the neighborhood. I'm also not a big ice cream person so take that as you will.
I am not being hyperbolic when I say this, but as someone who has had a LOT of great ice cream in their life, Awan was probably the best ice cream I've ever had. Full stop. This place is a SUPER mom n pop Indonesian inspired ice cream place. You order at a little hole in the wall nook, but there is plenty of open indoor-outdoor style seating next to it. I believe everything is also vegan/coconut based! Now to the best ice cream I've had in my life: the one that ranks above them all is their collab with REM Beauty by Ariana Grande called "LOVE SPELL". It is Gula Jawa and Hibiscus flavored. The floral! The sweet! The hint of tangy! I quite literally experienced sensations that I've never tasted, kind of like Remy from Ratatouille during the synesthesia sequence. I loved it so much I went right back at bought a pint for $25. This is my petition to make this a forever flavor instead of seasonal!!! This was WAY too good of a flavor to be temporary!!! I also got the Satsuma Mandarin. WOW. The little dried slice of orange on top was the cherry on top. Lmao. Perfectly balanced sweet with tangy, and esp as someone who generally dislikes citrus flavors, this was a BANGER. Honestly...I'm still thinking about this ice cream. The flavors are so unique, so much so that I feel that it is quite literally art. I wish there was a location in the San Fernando Valley because I would be there all. the. time. I cant wait to go back!!!
Wow! this is some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted! They have some very unique flavors. At the time when I came, I got a lavender flavored ice cream. I love that you can check out the latest flavors on their website or Instagram. The staff was very friendly and also patient while my friends and I decided on a flavor. I can't wait to come back and try a new flavor :)
SERVICE - located in West Hollywood slightly away from the busier strip of bars and restaurants - tucked into a corner behind the coffee shop in front - parking available on street or in a nearby lot - seating available in covered area or outdoor MENU - Indonesian inspired coconut based frozen desserts - all vegan/vegetarian - average price FOOD - thai tea black sesame butter crunch (/10): thai tea base with black sesame paste and cornflakes folded in. The combination of thai tea and black sesame are both bitter so when paired with the sweet coconut it made for a balanced flavored dessert. I had also tried the plain vanilla flavor but found it too sweet. WOULD I GO BACK? Possibly. I liked some of the flavors that had more bitter notes but it was not my favorite dessert.
If you're not specifically looking for this place, you will definitely miss it, lol. It's tucked away into a corner (literally) and it's just a take-out window haha. I love how interesting their flavors are, and the girl helping us was so sweet and let us try as many as we liked! We were able to try the gaviota strawberry, dayglow coffee, thai tea + black sesame butter, nekohama hojicha, and shinko pear + ginger. Their ice cream flavors really pack a punch and everything was so flavor-forward (no delicate or mild flavors here!) I ended up getting their strawberry (so basic, but so good and refreshing), and my husband got the thai tea + black sesame butter (I loved the Thai tea part, but the black sesame was too heavy and rich for me, haha). I feel like you can't go wrong with any of their flavors! There's a little area to sit and enjoy the ice cream, otherwise I'd recommend just taking it to-go. Parking here is atrocious, even for LA standards. We came on a weekday night and there was absolutely no parking. While I liked the ice cream, not sure if I'd brave the parking situation to come back, lol.
8/28/2025 First time at Awan. Had it on my must-go-to list for so long! Went on a Monday afternoon. After trying Awan on Melrose Ave, it was closed. There was a note telling me that it will open at 4:00pm instead of the usual 3:00pm, so I've decided to reroute to the one at Huntley Dr., which was a huge mistake! Traffic was crazy and parking is crazier! Finally parked in a neighborhood closeby, which had parking permit signs everywhere, took a huge risk and parked. Sampled a few before deciding. The Awan employee was very patient. NEKOHAMA HOJICHA (Kids Scoop, 3oz) Cannot tell it had coconut in it! Love the creamiess of this ice cream! Very creamy and barely any coconut flavor! The hojicha was from Nekohama and it was a good quality hojicha! SPLIT SCOOP - BALINESE VANILLA BEAN This had a lovely, rich vanilla bean flavor. It has coconut cream in it, but I could barely taste the coconut flavor. On top of the ice cream was sprinkled gula jawa (unrefined palm sugar) which was unnecessary, as I liked the flavor as it was. Love the creamy, luxurious mouthfeel! Simply delicious! PEACH + APRICOT SWIRL This was my favorite! Full of peach flavor! So good! It was a though you're biting into a fully ripened peach on a hot summer's day! Incredibly fruity, flavorful, peachy! The apricot swirl added a lovely apricot zing to it! But most of it tastes like peachy ice cream. Loved it so much, I bought a pint of it. Samples tried: Gaviota Strawberry, Dayglow Coffee, Gula Jawa Salted Caramel, Hibiscus. Out of the ones I've tried, I liked Dayglow Coffee the most. CUSTOMER SERVICE Asked for a few samples and were generously given various samples. Good customer service all around. Friendly and kind! LOCATION / SEATS / PARKING This was an odd location, as it was in a small corner next to Dayglow Coffee. There are outdoor table and seats. Parking is very difficult, as already mentioned. You can park very far away and walk or park in the neighborhood parking, which has permit parking only signs all around. I took a risk and parked somewhere that did not directly have that sign over it, yet it felt a bit risky, as majority of that neighborhood had a no parking without permit sign. Personally, I would recommend a different location. I definitely want to return to Awan, but to a different location due to parking issues.
GREAT ice cream option for people who are vegan, lactose intolerant, or just want to avoid animal fat. This tiny ice cream shop hides in the back of busy Hollywood streets. It's not easy to get to, and parking is extremely difficult in this area. For those who can conquer those difficulties, and find this small place, which does not have its own storefront, you get to enjoy some heavenly and unusual flavors! The night we went there was only one server! She struggled to help everyone who kept coming up to the window while she was trying to take a break! I've never seen an ice cream shop so small and with just one server! Maybe the business is still building! Best luck to them though!
AWAN is an ice cream shop with Indonesian inspired flavors and ice creams are all vegan and gluten-free. They currently have three locations - West Hollywood, Larchmont, and Venice. 4th location in Chinatown coming soon. This is the flagship location for AWAN. [Parking]: Street parking only. I found metered parking spots a block away (Westbourne Dr). [Atmosphere]: This is an actual hole-in-a-wall spot as the walk-up window is located right next to Dayglow coffee shop. AWAN and Dayglow share the seating area together so there's a common space to sit & enjoy ice cream. [Menu]: On the day of my visit, they ran out of all popular flavors like Chocolate Oreo and only had 6 flavors left (out of 10 flavors). The cashier said they will restock flavors in ... couple weeks. I sampled few flavors and ended up with vanilla bean. Kids scoop is 3 ounce for $6, single scoop is 5 ounce for $8, and split scoop is 6 oz for $10. *** Balinese Vanilla Bean (signature flavor made with Indonesian coconut water & coconut cream finished with shavings of gula jawa - an unrefined palm sugar; kids scoop 3 ounce for $6): I could taste a subtle flavor profile, but personally it tasted too dense and overly sweet. I did like gula jawa, but ice cream itself was way too sweet and I actually didn't finish the entire scoop. *** Super friendly cashier, but I prefer other Asian inspired ice cream shops like Wanderlust Creamery (multiple locations in LA) and Kansha Creamery in Gardena.
A really small ice cream shop that is located right next to a coffee shop. I almost missed it at first until I saw a sign with an arrow pointing. They have a small seating area which was nice since we were able to get out of the heat for a while. Unfortunately, I didn't know they offered samples. I would've loved to try their flavors before ordering. I liked that they offered split scoop, so I ended up ordering the hojicha and coffee. The hojicha honestly tasted a little weird, and left an interesting aftertaste. Both flavors weren't overly sweet and were extremely creamy. I think I would've enjoyed it more if they were sweeter though.
Came here the other day while we were in the area as people wanted ice cream and wanted to try Awan. First, parking is right, trying to find somewhere to park just to hop out and grab the ice cream, but such is this area of Los Angeles. The shop, itself, is pretty small, right next to a coffee shop, so don't get them mixed up. There wasn't anyone in line in front of us so we were able to order immediately. We tried different ice creams from strawberry and vanilla to coffee and chocolate Oreo. The ice cream was nice and creamy, decent flavor but there was a word after taste ish with the strawberry. The chocolate pretty was good, the coffee tastes like dude, not really standing out from other coffee flavored ice creams. The vehicle has a nice crumble on top. But, for the price point, I would say it was not worth it, especially with so many other ice cream locations around Los Angeles. In the end, decent ice cream, high price point. You just need to decide for yourself if it is worth it to you or not
This is a really small ice cream shop, but the long line makes perfect sense once you try it. I had the vanilla coconut ice cream and it was absolutely heavenly--so creamy and full of flavor. There's also a small seating area prepared, which made it nice to enjoy on the spot. I sampled a couple of other flavors, but the coconut was by far my favorite. Totally worth the wait, and I'd definitely come back just for that flavor alone.

Nice Indonesian ice cream spot. It is small tiny shop next to coffee shop and it serve vegan ice cream. The seating place is at the street level. It doesn't have many choices but it is interesting they shave Indonesua palm broen sugar as garnish. Eventhough it is vegan ice cream, the taste is like regular ice cream. If TikTok says it's yummy, best believe I have to check it out! I got the Matcha and Balinese Vanilla Bean and did not regret it at all. Believe it or not, I finished the icecream in 5 minutes because it was so tasty (and I was dying from the summer heat!....would I do it again? Absolutely!) The cashier was very sweet and welcoming. I wish I caught her name ! She gave us a few flavors to try and even recommended us her favorite flavor. Now, let's talk about the ambiance...one word only...WOW! The store was very aesthetic and beyond beautiful. My oh my oh my. Definitely add this to your list! you won't regret it. read more
LOVED Awan's vegan coconut-based ice-creams. This would be a 5 star review if the price for the portion wasn't so darn steep... I ordered one scoop of matcha guava and one scoop of the Lilikoi flavor which came out to $12 for two scoops. When I was rang up, I was also asked to leave a tip ! Yikes. Yknow, coconut milk may be the answer to my life's problems and AWAN got me to that specific answer. Note that you can miss this place if you're heading westbound on Santa Monica Blvd. but if you're heading eastbound, behind the sex shop is a blue wall that houses Dayglow coffee and AWAN. Every much enjoyed my two scoops of Balinese Vanilla Bean and Valencia Orange. The Vanilla was creamy and not too sweet while the Orange hit the right note of tang. For vegan ice cream, this is probably the best I've had since they use coconut milk in a masterful way to achieve the creaminess yet no coconut aftertaste. Already devoured my pint which they offer in 16oz here. To my lactose peeps and/or general ice cream lovers, I think this place is def worth a visit. read more
Tucked away with dayglow coffee in the middle of Weho is probably the best gelato I've had in Los Angeles. I'm actually so sad their Larchmony locations as well as melrose are closed. Their gelato truly uses the best quality of ingredients and I wish i could've tried some of their pint flavors. Although pricey definitely worth it since you can taste the quality of the ingredients in the ice cream. The blue yuzu lemonade had such a citrusy yet not sour yuzu flavor which was so addicting and the chocolate Oreo was decadent and rich. I loved how the gelato was not too sweet and that I was able to taste the quality of the Ingredients. I will definitely come back if I'm ever craving gelato. read more

Interesting concept for ice cream in a pretty weird nook of weho. AWAN is vegan ice cream and the flavors are unique albeit unconventional. My group essentially got every flavor so we got to sample a bit of everything so here goes nothing: Vanilla: this isn't your traditional vanilla, it's got like 7 other flavors happening here so it tastes like vanilla but also other spices. Is it good? Yes. Golden Vanilla: it's the vanilla but with even more spices like tumeric and stuff. It's unique but definitely couldn't handle more than like 3 bites max. Orange: it's orange but got some spice and more to it. Same thing, nice and fruity but I can maybe handle 3 bites max. Matcha: this seems standardized across all places. Matcha tastes like matcha, can't go wrong with it. Usually. Chocolate: this isn't so bad either, it's not super rich and sweet like your normal chocolates but it still satisfies that chocolate craving without making you feel guilty about it. I tried my best but I forgot the other flavors (also note these aren't the true names of the flavors I had, I have short term memory loss and can't be bothered to look for their menu again oops). Whatever it is, this is a nice and unique ice cream shop if you're in the area. read more

I tried multiple samples. What really stood out to me was the guava! Creamy and refreshing. My friends loved the matcha and one of the chocolate ones. There is a seating area which is great. The downside would be the location to order is kind of hidden. Yes Google maps does point to the correct location, however due to lack of signage at a visible spot, you could potentially miss it. Staff was nice to give us samples and answer questions. Wish there was an option to try the pint flavors! read more
I've been meaning to try Awan for awhile & luckily I was in the area & finally gave it a try! Balinese vanilla cream literally tasted like coconut cream but sweeter & the gula jawa is the cherry on top! a rly lovely vegan spot! The only downside was that it was hard to find, especially at night bc there isn't a big sign & our apple maps took us to the front instead. its really easy to miss & parking is difficult to come by but its hidden next to dayglow! just go past where all the seats & bathrooms by the blue building. read more

My friend and I were getting coffee from Dayglow, but my friend noticed this window next to it - ice cream!! How could we not try it? After coffee, we lined up at the order window. It took maybe 5 min for the person working there to get to us, seemed like a one man show, but once he was there he was attentive to us. I was glad to be able to sample multiple flavors - I tried Balinese vanilla, Valencia orange, blueberry lavender, and pistachio saffron. They were all good but I decided to go with blueberry lavender. I enjoyed blueberry lavender. It's very blueberry forward though, the lavender flavor is subtle. It does have a nice tanginess, I wonder if they add some lemon too? The flavor is refreshing but the ice cream itself is quite heavy and filling like dairy ice cream. This is vegan but it's made with coconut cream so it's very creamy. I would recommend sharing with a friend. Also on the same note, the flavor of coconut is going to be present throughout all the flavors so if you don't like coconut, don't come here LOL. Dayglow and Awan share a seating area right across from the shops where you can drink your coffee and enjoy your ice cream. I would come back here the next time I was in WeHo, and this is a great follow up to coffee. I am glad to see Indonesian flavors in ice cream! They feel unique and it's worth a visit imo. read more

I am low key obsessed with this place at the moment. I have yet to come here and have something that I did not like. And the staff is so friendly. It actually feels like you are visiting a friend at their job. I love the variety of the flavors that they have. I recently had the birthday cake and I could have taken a tub home with me. I will probably be back at some point this week! I love that it is slightly hidden and I really like the blue walls. read more

Awan is a delicious hidden gem of the neighborhood with flavorful ice cream. It's a bit hard to find and the staff always prepares the scoops with care. The seating area is shared and in a covered area. Sample the flavors, I've had a few but don't love them all! Cute design! read more

The best vegan ice cream I've ever had! Having the base as Indonesian coconut milk is pure genius. It was so creamy but light at the same time without a strong coconut flavor. As an Indonesian myself I was very excited to hear about this place, especially the Balinese vanilla flavor. I'm so glad it met and exceeded my expectations. The vanilla is more aromatic than other vanilla I've had in the past. Topping it off with the gula jawa was the perfect texture with amazing coconutty-brown-sugar flavor. A split scoop was $10 so be aware of the steep price but with the amazing consistency and flavors, this was more than worth it! read more

Indonesian ice cream counter that's vegan-friendly. Came here for dessert on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the Gaviota strawberry. A scoop was $8 so definitely on the pricier side, but the quality is up there. We tried samples too. Credit cards accepted. There's a shared space with Dayglow where you can eat your ice cream. read more

Finally got around to trying this place out and it was really good! I gave the coffee and raspberry flavors both a try and I liked them both! The espresso has some flavor of coconut, which I don't love, but the raspberry didn't have coconut at all and was really fresh and bright! Both were very creamy, and it's hard to believe it's vegan. read more

Stopped by Awan with my boyfriend a few weeks ago after dinner. We got there about 30 minutes before closing, and the line was already out the door! I started worrying they wouldn't take our order, but luckily they did. They only had one worker handling everything, so it was a bit slow, but we were grateful they let us order. We each got two scoops, and while I can't remember the exact flavors I do remember they were super unique and tasty. Definitely worth the wait if you're looking for interesting flavors you don't find everywhere. read more

Awan is a small ice cream stand next to Dayglow, featuring unique flavors every month (you can check their Insta to see the flavors), and you can sample them too! They offer kids, single or split scoop. It's not too heavy on the coconut flavor, so anyone can enjoy. This was such a sweet treat to find in the midst of WeHo Pride as Santa Monica Blvd. was blocked off from vehicular traffic and packed with revelers. You'd think there would be a long queue for this spot, but its location was so well hidden away that Jamie W. and I were the only ones taking samples of the unusually flavorful vegan ice cream served here. Apparently it's an Indonesian-originated product made with coconut cream, cane sugar, sea salt, and Balinese vanilla bean. Jamie was good and ordered just one scoop of the Dayglow Coffee for $8, while I indulged in the $10 Split Scoop of the Gaviota Strawberry and Dayglow Coffee (photo: https://bit.ly/3QD31ap). Genuinely satisfying without being cloying. The cloying was left to the two giggly girls that ordered after us. As an ice cream lover who can't indulge in traditional dairy-based treats, I truly appreciate AWAN's creative selection of vegan flavors. My top favorite flavors are Oreo/chocolate and Indomie!! If someone told me vegan ice cream could be this good, I wouldn't believe them. I've tried a handful of different shops around the US so my experience wasn't the best. After having had AWAN multiple times now, I retract my statement. Even though a single scoop is $8 (single split scoop is $10), take my money!!!! I've tried so many different flavors so it's hard to say my favorites. They also rotate their flavors pretty often, once one of them is out of stock. Check their Insta for current flavors! Be sure to ask for samples, but be courteous with your time as there tends to be a small line. It's located inside a small corner right next to Dayglow. There is paid street parking available around the neighborhood and also neighborhood parking, but beware of signs! read more

Had such a great experience getting the not-ice cream from here. I believe the staff that helped me is named Evan (apologies if wrong). He was so friendly and helpful in explaining the flavors and answering my questions. Super easy and straight forward transaction. Was able to grab and go approx. 30 mins prior to closing. I was expecting a full store front but the goodies were just being sold out of a window. Sampled a couple of flavors, lemongrass was good and refreshingly-different, but ended up getting the marigold and black sesame. Would come back! read more
