My favorite vegan ice cream in LA! I've tried their West Hollywood location and I'm so glad they've added one to Venice! Their flavors are so unique with very thoughtfully sourced ingredients, and the portions are perfect. I highly recommend any of their fruit flavors, the gaviota strawberry is divine and their pineapple pandan is the perfect balance of tart and creamy! I like how none of their flavors are too sweet either, and even though they do use a coconut cream base there isn't a super strong or overpowering coconut flavor. There's little standing tables inside and a bench outside, but this is definitely more of a to-go window with limited seating.

Delicious vegan ice cream! I've been wanting to try Awan for a while now and after seeing the collab with REM beauty, I had to check it out. I went on a Sunday morning and there wasn't a line. Staff were super friendly with helping me sample and choose flavors. The Love Spell flavor was super delicious. It was the perfectly blend of fruity and tart. Overall, great spot for a treat!

I am not a vegan, but man this icecream is the shit. I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite icecream spots in LA. I would never know that there is no dairy in the ice creams. It is perfectly creamy without being too sweet. I love how they have a seasonal menu. My first time coming I had their cantaloupe which was amazing. This time I got their orange. The orange reminded me of a creamsicle. Super cool ambiance as well. I love how the interior reminds me of a hidden cave. The icecream comes out of this little door within the cave. Pretty neat.

AWAN is one of my favorite ice cream places! It's high quality Indonesian ice cream that's vegan and delicious (and I'm not even vegan)!! Their seasonal flavors are ALWAYS worth getting even if it's $1 extra. I personally love all their fruit flavors when I'm a chocolate and milk ice cream kinda gal so this says a lot. They have the best unique flavors rotating from their seasonal menu. I really love the Venice location because they had all the flavors to try whereas other locations they run out fast. My favorite was the: Shinko Pear and Ginger (5/5): It had a sweet, fruity shinko Asian pear base that was tangy and tasted like butterscotch undertones with the creaminess. I loved that it has tiny bits of crystallized ginger that went SO well with the refreshing and creamy pear base. Was a perfect pick me up to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Vegan ice cream! This place is a cool location that looks like it's made of colorful stucco. You walk into a small room and there is a guy who will let you try the various flavors. We tried a cranberry one that I didn't like, but the cookies and cream one was delicious. It's kind of funny how you order it, then go to a little vestibule to the side where a window opens up and it comes out. It's a bit pricey, my friend said the to go container are like $30. I got the "child" cup and it was $6. it was very good, kind of reminds me a little of real Italian gelato.

Finally got to try Awan after hearing about the hype and uniqueness of the flavors. Flavors were definetly made with real ingredients and You can't find these flavors anywhere, definetly very unique. I think they rotate flavors. The flavors today weren't the same ones I saw on yelp before. They let you sample. Tried shinko pear and ginger. It had the sweetness of the pear paired with a touch of ginger. The ginger lingers in the after taste. I didn't get this one but I like the concept. The Thai tea and black sesame butter was pretty good as well. I'd say the black sesame butter was the dominant flavor. You still get that Thai tea flavor, but not as bold as the black sesame Strawberry had a bit of tart to it, mentioned it was organic. For a price of a single scoop is $8, which is kind of expensive. Also parking in the neighborhood is a bit hard, good if you get lucky finding street parking, but if not you might have to walk a little further The workers were nice let you try all the flavors if needed so that you can select the one that fits your taste. They were really nice and understand that these aren't your typical ice cream flavors so they let you try as much as you need to pick your favorite.

Finally got to try Awan after seeing it on social media for a while. For vegan "ice cream" the flavors are truly robust , fresh, and tastes very natural and organic. We got the coconut cream/vanilla and the mandarin flavor and it was very refreshing. The palm sugar at the end is also a nice touch.

Having its outlet stood next to Dayglow, Awan was such attention stealer with its peculiar design, giving the vibe of entering a gorgeously designed cave to me. Not to mention, the color they featured was one of my favorite! On any weekdays they wouldn't be open until 3pm, while on weekend they would come earlier by noon. Good news was you could have it as post-dinner dessert given they would only be closed by 10pm. So long day-light during summer surely made it just perfect. Some of the flavor selections, either from the core or the seasonal ones, weren't like any you could easily find elsewhere. Even for the ones that might sound bit familiar like strawberry or vanilla or even oreo, they kinda featured their own unique selling point by mixing it with distinctive ingredients. Bringing a touch of Indonesia, I was really impressed that they presented the iconic brown sugar from my very own home country! Trust me, if you wondered it's just brown sugar, you'd better save that thought aside and gave it a try then thanked me later. If you're worried about dairy, this was certainly the answer for you as their ice cream was dairy free, using coconut milk. If you're unsure which flavors you might fancy, they did offer tasting. The single scoop cup was 5oz, but there's petite version at 3oz. If you're kind of indecisive like me or just want more mix of flavors, go for the split scoop, which was basically 2 scoops of the kid size. TBH I tried Awan already before and went for their Vanilla and Matcha, which I thought was OKAYish but bit too pricey. This second try hooked me stronger especially their Salted Caramel Gula Jawa, which used the earlier-called brown sugar shavings on top. That topping surely elevated the overall flavor, and I would recommend pair it with probably refreshing fruit-based ones or something with tangy note. In my case I paired it with the Nekohama Hojicha, which was maybe not the right decision as it made the Hojicha one tasted too subtle, which I guessed because the first one carried quite vibrant taste. NGL still think it's tad steep, particularly as I went for one seasonal flavor, which meant +$1 landing this split scoop at $11. Will I come back? YES, am still intrigued by all other flavors I haven't tried, and I am also appreciating the effort introducing home-country ingredients here! Thinking out loud, prolly the reason behind the price tag.

The staff, the ice cream, the aesthetic, the look, all of it was GRAND. The staff were so sweet as our kids kept asking for sample after sample. The flavors are so yummy! But they were out of the 2 flavors we reaaaally wanted! Otherwise, it was such a cute place! Definitely a must try!

4.5 stars I'm was really happy to see that they recently opened up a new Awan near Venice so I didn't have to drive as far. Awan is somewhat tucked away on Rose Avenue and I wouldn't have know that they were selling ice cream if I hadn't already known I was going specifically for ice cream. The exterior is green and in the dark it makes everything look closed until you look closely and see that they have a door propped open. The ice cream itself was delicious! The person helping us was so kind and patient with my friends and I trying all the different flavors. Everything is coconut based, but the coconut flavor was not overpowering. It also had a nice consistently that felt similar to gelato. The top half of their menu is the list of permanent flavors and then bottom half is their seasonal flavors. I was debating between the dayglow coffee or the peach apricot swirl, and ended up deciding on the latter knowing that it'll be rotated out but I could always come back for the coffee. Overall, I took off half a star because the inside was kinda small and it felt like I couldn't stay in there too long to finish my ice cream while chatting with friends. But then again, you are in Venice and it's nice to walk down the streets. I also think the ice cream is somewhat expensive at $6(permanent menu)/$7(seasonal menu) for the kids small (1 scoop), but it is on par with all other ice cream places in LA.

OMG! Coconut based dairy free icecream! I went with both my sisters in law - Gabi m & Lexie m! They let us try them all but I got strawberry in the end. It's actually creamy and not using nut milk is a big win for my stomach. The aesthetic is amazing VIBE! The way they "deliver" the icecream through the window is awesome as well. Definitely a must try.

I had tried the Awan in West Hollywood by accident as I stumbled down some stairs trying to get some coffee on a side street off of Santa Monica Blvd. a number of months ago. That place was tiny and seemed to be a by invitation only location. On this occasion, I had lunch at Chelita's across the street on Rose and my car was parked in front of this joint. Intrigued because it only looked like a wall of a mission, I wandered in and looked at a green wall with a cut out looking kitchen and another alcove with a closed door. Is this the Emerald City of ice cream? I can only have vegan gluten free so the small menu of flavors kept me puzzled thinking I would have to ring a bell to find the Wizard of Awan. Fortunately a young man showed up in the large alcove and explained to me the rules of Awan. His friendly guidance helped me select a GULA JAWA SALTED CARAMEL INFUSED AND LAYERED WITH UNREFINED INDONESIAN COCONUT PALM SUGAR. I had and have no idea what I ordered but I dutifully waited outside a closed door of a small alcove thinking in this play I must be looking for a brain when the doors swung open and my lovely whatever I ordered appeared before me. I expected trumpets to play or at least a munchkin or two but I took the sumptuous looking cup and retreated to my car on this blustery day to taste this concoction after all the fanfare. The result, darn good creamy vegan ice cream. The large scoop, while costly, was hearty and delicious. I may need to return when I summon the courage.

Awan first opened in West Hollywood awhile back and it had been on my list to try, but I never ended up making it there so I was glad when they opened a Venice location. It's quickly become one of my favorite ice cream places, and I've been here a few times since the summer. Awan is an Indonesian ice cream place that has unique flavors and it's also all vegan. First off, the location feels so high end for an ice cream place. It's all sage green and feels like a grotto inside. You order at the window and the ice cream comes out via a window. They only have a few flavors, and all of the flavors are vegan. I don't always love vegan ice cream but Awan's ice cream is made with coconut cream so you can't really tell it's vegan, and it also doesn't have an overpowering coconut flavor or scent. The first time I came, I got the melon flavor which was so delicious. Service is super friendly. There is no seating at this place, but the location on Rose makes it nice to get a scoop and walk around. I'm so happy to have another quality ice cream place nearby.

To start, the eggs (omelette/scrambled) didn't look appealing and tasted just as disappointing. The bread that came with the meal was overly charred, to the point where it affected the flavor. More concerning, though, was the lack of attention to food allergies. We specifically requested an appetizer with gluten-free bread, but it arrived with regular bread. When we asked the staff member who brought it out, they incorrectly confirmed it was gluten-free. Someone at our table with a gluten allergy ended up eating it based on that information. Only later, after double-checking with our waiter, were we told it was not gluten-free. That kind of mistake is serious and easily avoidable with better communication and care.

The vibe is casual and beach chic. All of the food is delicious and this is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The restaurant has very few parking spaces on site. There is one hour metered parking nearby which isn't very convenient if you have to keep going back to refill the meter. If you're lucky you might find distant street parking that is unpaid. This is nothing against the restaurant, but as Venice as a city in general. High prices like these without any special validation, are sure to keep people from coming to these places at all if you can't afford it. Perhaps that's how Venice would like to keep it. The interaction with staff to either just receive a smile or ability to ask questions about the food/processes goes a long way- especially in this digital dominance era. Though, the staff of the space (not Talo) were friendly. There is one female (didn't catch her name but she's a petit brunette ) that was great! So The Colony did well at hiring job at hiring her. 2. Second critique- lack of flavor. This is the reason for the minus one star. Please don't offer tacos if the food isn't going to have the delicious flavor and spices that Mexican cuisine has. The meat was under-seasoned and lacking the complex mix of ingredients not only in the meat but also the salsa. The salsa also had a off texture. If you take on a culture's food, and you are not of that heritage, please please please master the flavor. Or create dishes of your own heritage that better represents the flavor of the plate so consumers aren't misled on what to expect - flavorwise. Other than that, love & appreciate everything else about this business. Especially after googling them and seeing more of their business operations and values. From the quality of the ingredients - organic, grassfed, seed oil free- to the minimal plastic exposure. Really appreciate it. The price point, considering the quality of ingredients, is fair. I hope as they grow, they can also offer counter orders as opposed to just relying on tablets as well as fine-tune the seasoning of their food.

The ragu, the crema and the steak tartare are our favourites! In terms of service - there are two amazing people I'd particularly like to praise. Angel is perhaps the happiest waiter on the planet - I challenge you to find a time when he isn't smiling. Such a pleasure to have him at your table side. And Paulina is perhaps the hardest working, most efficient manager you'll ever come across. There is never a moment when she isn't bustling around, getting things done. You can see she's under enormous pressure with the amount of customers that are constantly coming through, but she is just on top of everything. Comes over to every table, wants to ensure everything is perfect all the time. An example - yesterday we arrived after having waited an hour for our table, there were 6 of us including our toddler - she could see we wanted to order ASAP so she just came over and without taking notes, we reeled off the 9 dishes we wanted, and she recited everything back to us perfectly, coursed it out, and said she'd get the toddler's plate out immediately. If I ever was to set up a restaurant, she'd be who I'd choose to run it, that's for sure. Thanks Uovo!
